I would give NO stars if possible....My 81 yr old father was sent there and left waiting in a cold room, no washroom, no blanket for 8 hours before being seen for 5 mins by the Dr who sent him home without any testing( he was vomiting blood) they had him spit into a kidney basin, looked up his nose and down his throat with a light, said nothing wrong... he waited another 6 hours for the ambulance to drive him back to the ltc he resides at... second visit a month later( as per his GP) he sat there all day, I had ER Drs calling me asking why he was there, even though the family Dr had already called ahead of time stating why he was being sent by ambulance.. Very unorganized hospital, do not treat patients with dignity , nor do they know how to prioritize. Called patient relations, received 1 call back and left message, tried to call them again...no return call....guess they are not too concerned about how their hospital runs. What a shame

They sent my very ill, diabetic son, home while he was still dizzy and unable to walk. I wheeled him back in to the emergency and told the nurse on duty he was still slurring his words. She very curtly told me he was tested and just has a stomach virus and would recover. So I managed to get him home and to his bed, but later he fell in the bathroom and hit his head, so now we are wondering if he has a concussion. Afraid to call the medics again! He should have been in hospital on IV! He didn't eat for 6 days because he was regurgitating everything. We had to call the medics again and they took him to the hospital. All they did was give him IV, which seemed to revive him, but was still sick! They say it's Gastritis which may require anti-biotics but they didn't give him any! So we finally got hold of his Doctor in Oshawa and he prescribed an antacid type of pill that he takes for 30 days and seems to be recovering. Question is, guess the hospital doctor didn't know about the meds.

All Ontario Hospitals lack empathy or respect to the patient. They do have to use triage in determining who gets treated first so don't feel ignored.

I brought my adult son in due to gastrointestinal issue. The intake staff were professional and caring. The nurses attended to him in an efficient and caring manner. I had to step out, but returned within an hour. My son says he had been in terrible pain and although on an iv, was waiting to see the doctor. He felt agitated and just wanted to leave and they took good care of him until blood work results came back. They were so caring and helpful.

My dad went to the simcoe general for a tick. They didnt send it for lyme tests and only gave him 2 antibiotics. He went to our REAL doctor today and she said it wasnt right how they never tested the tick and gave him 10 days of antibiotics just in case it did have lyme. I've said it before and I'll never stop saying it, that hospital is run by monkeys and is probably responsible for people getting sick/ dying when they could have prevented it. I've also been there myself. One time it took them 6 hours just to put an IV in, which by the way I had been nonstop throwing up because I was dehydrated..the nurse spent a good 30-40 minutes just trying to put it in my arm. I could have been out of there within the first hour and they would have had more patient beds but they left me there.

You need to be more consistent with your covid rules. You were ready to kick me out because I wanted to bring in my own water to the ER. I am told no out side food or drink for all patients. Hmm maybe this only applies to some people. Because low and behold a man sitting in front of me in a wheel chair was allowed in with his water. It was only water and I was made to wait 15 minutes in the door way until a nurse came over to shame me for breaking the rules. Then you let someone in not even 15 minutes later with water.....

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Not to mention very disorganized and a bit unsanitary. The doctors are good, but the nurses aren't very friendly at all. They're also kind of violent and some are a bit inexperienced. The waiting times there are disgustingly impeccable. I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone.. not even am animal in that matter. We have an acronym for NGH.. instead of Norfolk General Hospital, we call it Never Go Home.

Waited 5 1/2 hours with a 9 month old to be written a prescription for an on the shelf item. The pharmacy didn't know what to think. Worst hospital I've ever been to. The doctors barely looked at him.

Everytime I have been forced to go to this hospital it's a horrible experience they have treated my diabetic mother horrible refusing to get her food but refusing to let her leave. Shes covered in bruises from them attempting to put an I.v in and they completely shame her for her blood sugar being on the low side.

I came into the hospital last night so I could get my knee checked out. I was there at 9:30pm. I didn’t see a doctor until 1pm and he couldn’t order a simple X-Ray because the tech went home! So he told me to come back tomorrow ! I am now here and I am continuing to waste ANOTHER day at the hospital. ????

ripped the end of my finger off at 2am in the morning, I came in the hospital and I had to repeatedly hit the emergency nurse button and still no one came for over 15 minutes, I then sat in the waiting room for 5 hours before they even looked at me and there wasn’t a single person in the hospital or emergency

1st visit: Only 3 people in front of me and still waited 5 hours for a few stitches. Watched two people walkout. Apparently this is normal. 2nd visit: 2 a.m. Zero people in any of the waiting rooms. Still took 2 hours to see a doctor. Don't ever go here. It will always be faster to drive to another hospital and wait there.

How I wish I could give a 0 star rating. Waited over five hours to be told to go home and drink lots of water and buy some lozenges. I feel like I'm trying to swallow glass and they wouldn't give me an antibiotic or even a tylenol for that matter.

Went here and waited in the “red chairs” to even speak to someone in triage. Waited an hour and still hadn’t talk to anyone so I left. An hour and I didn’t talk to anyone. That’s really great for a hospital. I understand waiting after I’ve been registered but they have no documentation of me being there because I didn’t have an opportunity to talk to someone. 3 people went ahead of me and then the nurses closed the door and talked for 40 minutes. I get that there’s things to do but seriously.

We've be here over 3 hours now and we still haven't seen a doctor. All of the staff We've spoken to so far are extremely moody, grumpy, and rude. If you actually have a serious medical issue drive to another city. You'll be seen faster.

My dad was admitted on 3rd floor after surgery. NOT ONCE did I seen the nurses put gloves on for anything!!! They went and flushed IVs from one person to the next with no gloves and no washing hands!!!

Quickly processed through registration. I had heart/chest pains. I recieved blood work and ecg in 20 minutes after talking to Dr. Graham-he was great as well. I waited 25 more minutes and was taken to my xray. All procedures done quickly and by professional staff. I think I waited longer in the waiting area then I did before I recieved my tests. Only downside is to bring food. They have a cafeteria but it's only open from 11am till 1 pm and vending machine food is your only other option

Prepare yourself to get disappointed before going to the emergency of Simco View Hospital . I do know that we are passing through COVID-19 situation but we need to be treated like a human. Very unprofessional staff and uncomfortable feeling I received here. We are not the enemies, we come to the emergency for a specific reason. As nurses working with patients that need you, you should do better!

I was in a Motorcycle accident with my husband, we we're on our way to Port Dover. The Ambulance a nd Hospital Staff where amazing. They didn't just talk at you like most hospital staff, they talked to you. I am so glad we had our accident in their county. I am especially grateful to Dr. Sullivan. He was very gentle and kept my mind off of the fact that I had a hole in my leg. Thank you all for your help in what was the scariest day of my life so far!

I got my arm cut one week ago today. I went to the ER and for the most part it was good I got in fast I waited a couple hours which was unfortunate but I could survive. the biggest things that bothered me was They called in another DR because they thought it would have taken an hour to stich my arm when she came in she looked at my arm for a solid 20 seconds said it’s fine it just needs to be glued. She then started gluing and as she was gluing she was putting steral strips on top to keep the cut closed. It’s been a week. The steral strips are glued on and are just hanging from the glue. And the glue basically created a barrier between my skin causing it to not heal right...it’s been a week and I still have an open cut. I’m super disappointed it was as if she didn’t want to be there and wanted to get out fast. So she took the easy route out. So thank you for that. Really thanks

My 87yr. old Mum was taken by ambulance this AM to NGH due to severe chest pain. She was well-looked after by all staff and the volunteer we encountered in the ER. The staff were pleasant and treated her like a valued human being, rather than just another "old person", taking up space, an attitude that we encountered at another local hospital. The ER was clean and tidy, but I was I was rather disgusted with a visitor in the ER, leaning full body, on a medi-type cart as he talked on his phone. Why would you think that's okay?! As usual, many complaints about hospitals are caused by the people who use them. However, my compliments to the staff!

If I could give 0 stars I would. Doctors too busy socializing with nurses to attend to patients. Been sitting here for four hours and have seen no doctor or nurse. When going to the nursing station though the doctor was having social hour with a nurse. When asked how long before we get seen I got "I have a lot of charts I'm sure it's in there somewhere and won't be too much longer." Well I certainly hope the chart would be in there? Absolutely disgusting.

This is the worst er I have ever been in, you could die here and it would take them 12 hours to notice. It's filthy, the doctors and nurses don't seem to care other than s few, that I sympathize with. The first visit here took 8 hrs, then the doctor made a appointment for today, only to leave the hospital His words were you won't wait... Been here 2 hrs again now so far. If you can go anywhere else do so, the care here is not safe and the hospital is filthy. I don't recommend coming here at all

I don't understand why all the negative comments? I moved to simcoe from Cambridge and I can tell you there is a huge, i mean HUGE difference between the two. I've came in twice so far and everyone was nothing but friendly and kind not to mention both trips were very fast. At Cambridge it wait min. 2+ hrs just to get called into a room, that's not including the time a wait for the Doc. To see me.

Great team inside the emergency room on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at around 7pm after a terrible car accident I was involved in, I was brought there by 2 amazingly caring male paramedics, which I forget their names. But they were amazing. Once in the ER great staff asked me the COVID questions, and within an hour i saw the doctor, and he lined me up with an orthopaedic for 2 days later. By 9:30 I was ready to leave, with a nasty fractured humerus. I know a lot of people would say that’s a long time, but I completely understood that I had gotten there at shift switch which makes the waits a little bit longer, but overall they were great.

Went to the emergency for a visit after I noticed an unusual change in my vision. During that period many eye clinics were not open. There were very few staff and when I went into triage and had my vision tested, the nurse was very short with me. She ended my initial assessment with 'oh for God's sake, there's nothing wrong with your vision' and passed me along to the doctor. Myself and several other patients waited an hour and a half for a doctor. The man after me potentially had a broken arm and must've been in his 60's. He was clutching it and had it in a makeshift sling. When the doctor finally arrived she was very agitated. Upon examination she told me there was nothing unusual about my vision. She dropped the word 'retarded' various times throughout the examination. I was pretty aghast. This is supposed to be DOCTOR and was using this type of wording. I was appalled and so were many of the patients. As it turns out, an astigmatism had developed in my eye causing the unusual shift in vision. An eye doctor cleared this up for me after a 7 minute consultation at another location. To say my experience at this hospital was subpar is an understatement. I understand that this type of work is stressful but it occurs to me that if this is the state of treatment someone receives for an alarming change in vision and/or a broken arm, this hospital is extremely poorly run. I will avoid it in the future.

So sorry to see such poor reviews. I really love this hospital. I have had 3 surgeries here and all of my 3 children were born here also. My experiences have always been very positive. The staff is so helpful and kind. I understand the frustration of emergency wait times. Unfortunately that just seems to be the norm at all hospitals in the province. Still, I am very fond of this place!!! (My sister has been waiting in Toronto emerg 14 hours so far today. )

In emergency, in a hallway, with my 87 year old father for three hours who fell. He hit his head. Over 4-1/2 hours after being brought in by ambulance and was seen only by a student nurse who didn't even document the head injury. There are a number of injuries and not all were documented. I am apolled that this has happened. There could be a brain bleed or pneumothorax and no one would know due to the lack of care at this hospital!

Had an appointment today for a covid booster shot, they wanted a note from my doctor for proof of an autoimmune disease, never had to have proof for the first or second shot, and never had the shots at NGH either - really!!!!!!!

Horrible went to Emergency to get a 6mth sinus infection and plugged ears checked! Waited 3hrs to be called went away for 5mins was called while in the washroom asked nurse if I was called she said yes but I'd have to rewait to be called now as I missed my call, so I waited and waited no call watched nurses eat and laugh and carry on while I waited. Asked nurse again if I was going to be called again she said there's now people ahead of me UNREAL... I left so discouraged and disgusted with this hospital unreal experience will never go back still sick no medicine no care in the world by them.

Went to go visit my mentally ill sister on the third floor today, she got transferred to Brantford and soon as she was away from the nurses station the staff started cheering and celebrating. Is this how people with mental disorders should be treated?

I am a cancer patient who can't breath right my oncologists said get to ER this this an emergency. Here I sit for hours in pain and can't breath, while people with boo boos are getting in first. I have no choice but to wait or could die of infection never know that still might happen here.

Nurses are nor fair with patients they do not call them as per their turn .Nurses prefer to patients about which they think the situation is more urgent but I practically observed while waiting for my turn that the situation of patient is not urgent but nurses preferred them and I returned back home with out treatment after waiting for more than 2.5 hours. This thing really shocked me

Sat entire night got told to go home for a couple hrs and come back as there is no exray tech til 830am at which time I was informed that the Dr forgot to order exray so now I'm at back of line again broken ribs pain at 10 and sitting still waiting for them to see what needs to be exrayed motor vehicle accident and chest pain this is absolutely disgraceful wake up n start to care NGH

Excellent experience today with everyone from Registration to the nurses and other staff in ICU. Thank you very much. In reading many of the negative posts it is clear that in many cases you are upset because you didn't need to be there and had to wait. Waaa Waaa. It's not a hotel. It's not a resteraunt. It's a place where sick people get taken care of. They are the priority. NOT your sore throat or the fact you got there first. Some complain with the stated reality that you left and came back which demonstrates there was ZERO emergency to be dealt with. Just a spoiled brat. Grow up.

Husband was admitted to Norfolk General after suffering a Heart Attack. Emergency Room was good and treatment in ICU was very good until two days following Heart Attack. At that time he was suddenly told at 8:00 p.m. that he was being moved to third floor. There was no consultation with family and the psychology impact of being moved has had a very negative effect on his recovery. The room on third floor was deplorable. He felt he was being shuffled there to die. An hour after being shunted into this truly awful room he signed himself out. We will deal with the consequences ourselves. We are receiving help from our excellent Cardiologist in Hamilton via telephone. Terrible experience.

New to Norfolk. Been to NGH twice now. Both times I was treat well by Dr.s and nurses. Professional, courteous, caring, compassionate and thorough with my care and treatment. The only drawback I feel is the cleanliness of the hospital, I found it quite disgusting for such a facility. As well it needs badly updated.

Really Norfolk? You sent a man home that was having a heart attack and told him to come back in an hour?!?!?! Even other people waiting to be seen was in shock! Then upon his arrival you tell him the dr's that said come back in an hour has left, you're not sure what will happen! If you value your life don't trust this hospitol, they will let you die! I was there 2 days in a row and was never seen. I went in with crippling pain shooting from my stomach, lower back and down my legs.

Dec 20/2020 I went to emerge at 4:30 am I was having trouble breathing. (Not COVID) I was rushed right in, and well looked after by all staff in emerge. I was admitted into ICU, the doctor/internist on call, all the nurses and hospital staff looking after me, all excellent. The kitchen staff also excellent with feeding me and looking after me, thank you! The RT nurse Deb, who accompanied me to St. Joseph's during my transfer I want to thank you and the EMT's. Any NGH staff working Dec 20 & Dec 21 in emerge & ICU hats off to you all! I really can't thank you enough, I was treated so well. I would thank staff for looking after me, they were all very humble, a few would say "thank you but I'm just doing my job" HERO'S!

My mother went to emergency two days in a row for heavy congestion in her chest. She waited hours to see the doctor(s) and both times was sent away with no treatment nor antibiotics. She was told that the virus would run it's course in a few weeks. On the third day she went to the walk-in clinic across the street from the hospital and received a prescription which cleared things up in just a few days. The emergency clinic doctors should be ashamed. Very indifferent and incompetent.

Quite frankly it should be a zero star in my opinion what happened to being able to be there for your spouse when they're in need or sick this is absolutely outrageous that you can't have a visitor come into the hospital with you. who wants to be there by themselves when they're sick, scared and hurting these hospital rules need to be lifted, no questions asked. I am absolutely appalled by these restrictions!
