Super clean. Excellent services. Highly recommended. The patient is followed up every 6 hours by a doctor. Every 2 hours by a nurse for full check up.

(Translated) Little wait, a terminal scanning the RAMQ card speeds up the arrival process, very good service. Only thing: it is necessary to fax the paper of the doctor, in little late techno at this level.

(Translated) Since the centralization of hospitals, I have never felt so cold in the service ... Everything has become computerized, automated ... Even the receptionist on the phone seems to have no use and the billboards to see our turn are poorly located, difficult to read and understand. Even my doctor is exhausted from walking long distances in every way !! In addition, we lost two of my follow-ups in the centralization of the service and each time, I have to run after them to have the papers necessary for my samples prior to my appointments ... I have to type this every year! Not good for those who have cancer, I tell you ... Je dois me taper ça chaque année!

The reception in the outpatient clinics is warm. After three hours wait in emergency, they've provided me a tynelol (are you kidding me) I had muscle sour and nerve for the second time .... First time back in Vancouver they injected me Morphin after 15 mins!

nurses are complaining about they are not getting pay enough. But if see ER nurses they are always laughing with doctors and cheat chatting. This is one of them. I was waiting 8 hours no one called or do test. I hope high authority able to see what his employees are really doing.

Waited for over 6 hours. Left without seeing a doctor. According to security, average waiting time is "12 to 13 hours". Wouldn't recommend for emergencies.

(Translated) Excellent care by professionals at all levels of intervention and always with a smile. Thank you just thank you.

The wait was a bit long as expected and some of the nurses had very poor ability to speak English. I will note though that the doctors, nurses and receptionists (even security too) were very nice and helpful. The doctor took her time and didn't rush me and treated me very well and was very honest and kind. She also booked a follow up appointment to make sure I get my exam results (when usually hospitals tell you they'll call you if anythings wrong so you never get a definite no). Long wait as expected but excellent service. 5 out of 5.

Good Game

Waiting times are very long .

Only 2 people in the reception. Only talking and watching you tube.. Tax money well spent....

Rita Janati-Temsamani

If I could give 0 I totally would. Staff and protocols have got to be the biggest joke. 7hrs of waiting with less than 8 people in the waiting room without seeing a doctor. 4 of us left after 7hrs of waiting without being seen. Nurses are so careless, they make you feel like you are a waste of time and they don’t even ask all the questions. To avoid completely.

THEY WORK HARDER THAN THE TEN OTHER HOSPITALS that I have been to, more reliable, effective, efficient then the McGill Hospitals, but their triage, Emergency department is still a pretentious sham. By the way that have a great cafeteria, clean reasonably priced with good food choices too. Easy to get to with the Metro. THEIR CARDIAC FOLLOWUP SERVICE ARE SOME OF THE BEST IN MONTREAL TOO. The Notre Dame Hospital is the second best for seniors. The worst are the Verdun, West Island, St Cabrini.Hospitals

Sridipta Misra

Pathetic hospital. Right now standing at the emergency ward with my admitted who is in extreme lower abdominal pain. It has been 2 hours since he was admitted, still no one came to attend him. I went asking for doctor and was told quite rudely that the doctor would be there when it's his turn. Meanwhile its 2am here and there is hardly any people in the emergency ward. It's disgusting.

(Translated) Excellent team for motherhood! ???????? We were very well received and followed during my pregnancy. Unfortunately, the technician and Dr. Wo confirmed the serious abnormalities found during the 20-week ultrasound we had done at the Notre-Dame Hospital (ultrasound offered in the afternoon at Notre-Dame while at CHUM c is only the morning) and Dr. Wo has even found several other additional abnormalities like an effusion in the heart. We had to meet Dr. Tremblay right after to inform us that baby fetus was not viable and see the possibilities for the future. The whole team was very professional and humane. They took the time to explain the situation and to discuss with us the possible options. We had the support of the doctors if we chose to continue the pregnancy and they explained to us that a specialized team could take care of the baby at birth, if that was our wish, while explaining to us what would be his living conditions. But, considering the importance of the malformations and the little amniotic fluid, my boyfriend and I did not want to persevere us and we wanted to abbreviate the sufferings of baby fetus, ourselves and family. So, the team sent us to the CLSC in the suburbs for the continuation because we chose the termination of pregnancy by extraction / curettage instead of a provoked delivery which would have been practiced at the CHUM but with a risk that the placenta not evacuated. The only aspect that I found "less well organized" is that they suggested that I come back to do amnion synthesis with Dr. Bédard to be able to evaluate the genetic cause of the malformations that seemed to be due to trisomy 18 but I I had to wait two hours in the waiting room ... on uncomfortable chairs when we have fibromyalgia ... with all the moms happy to be pregnant ... and in the end I abandoned this step .. I was too exhausted and upset ... I would have needed a space for people who live this type of grief ... because it is a hard test to cross. The nurse then suggested that I do the analysis directly on the placenta / fetus and Dr. Bédard had me fill out the required documents. Another aspect that I have found difficult is that the appointments for blood test or ultrasound are offered only very early in the morning and it is not really suitable for people who work in the evening as my boyfriend and I . For example, for the blood tests it is necessary to come before 9AM ... whereas at Notre-Dame it is possible until noon. For the ultrasound of 20 weeks, CHUM is the morning only while Notre-Dame is possible in the afternoon. Also, the parking was always "full" during our visits ... and it is not easy to find around. We found the parking lot of UQAM right next door ... but with a big pregnant belly in the winter I might have found it less obvious ... I think it might be a good idea to reserve priority parking spaces based on their appointment to pregnant patients or other patients for whom metro travel is less obvious. Otherwise, the nurses, the ultrasound technicians, the doctors (many women) and the social worker are very professional, humane and respectful. My lover and I hope to have the chance to have a second pregnancy with a healthy baby and be able to be followed at this hospital. And we sympathize with all the parents who are going through this ordeal so difficult to lose a child to whom they had already attached themselves ... ???? (Original) Excellente équipe pour la maternité! ???????? ????

IF YOU ARE NEAR DEATH OR DEAD DO NOT COME HERE I had a Tylenol overdose and was taken as seriously as I was when I had a sore throat as a child in a clinic. Vomiting blood was still not valid enough to see a nurse quicklier yet alone a doc! I had to call an ambulance from within the emergency room to get me out to the Jewish general of which I’m almost there

(Translated) Very satisfied with my shoulder surgery with Dr. Grondin, (orthopedics, 4th floor Pavilion C) on February 04, 2021, then with the post-operative follow-up the following 9 (3rd Pav. C) Very courteous and professional staff upstairs. Very impressed by all this spacious and immaculate space, especially the operating room; I had planned the round trip by taxi on the day of the operation. Plan a long day for this day surgery, admission at 8 a.m. and off at 7 p.m. It takes preoperative exams and also a good time in the recovery room. My surgery was not until 2:00 p.m. Bed available upon arrival, I was able to sleep having failed to do so the day before. (* Ideally, someone to pick you up, who can collect your prescriptions the same evening.) The preoperative meeting at the CHUM (1st floor pavilion D) a few weeks earlier was just as well organized. (The indoor parking did not cost me anything since I stayed less than 2 hours on site.) * To obtain a discount when you exceed 2 hours, you must enter your ticket in a first machine, then in the other, on the ground floor. A guard on site to help! On my 3rd meeting at the CHUM (post-op,) the indoor parking cost me $ 6.00 instead of $ 17.50. (These appear to be special rates from covid, at all hospitals and clinics.)

This hospital has a organized and professional staff, nursing and doctors with great patients care! The nursing staff are attentive, and helpful. I was treated very well.

Worst parking garage at sky high prices. And the longest wait for a blood test I've ever had, anywhere. Yikes.

I'd give 0 stars, even less! I had the WORST experience at this Hospital, waiting almost 14 (!!!) HOURS for a doctor at the emergency. I'm not exaggerating with the number, this is the truth people! You can only imagine how frustrating this unhuman experience was. Never ever go to the emergency at this time of the year. After that experience, I'll never go there again anyways! I don't have to mention that the treatment of the doctor was of course, unsatisfying.. NEVER GO CHUM!

Morgan Marden

I have been here for five hours, and have still not been seen. I watched numerous people come in here hours after me, and get seen hours before me and then leave. My issue is not high on the priority list I guess, but it really only takes two minutes to solve if they just saw me. The only reason I didn't go to a clinic is because all the ones around me were booked solid. Also, some of the staff don't speak English and there is limited/no English signage, so be wary if you're monolingual.

(Translated) I would like to greatly thank the entire CHUM team who took care of my mother suffering from cancer. We had good communication with the team of doctors and they worked wonders at the Integrated Cancer Center. My mother is now in remission and I would like to thank the nurses, receptionists and doctors alike. We sometimes complain about our health care system, but I can assure you that now I greatly appreciate the care that saved my mother. Thanks again. The worst hospital I have ever been to in my life. And this is saying a lot as I have been to many all over. The staff were incredibly rude and apathetic and were more interested in laughing at patients and scrolling through clothing catalogs than being helpful. The late night nurse makes Nurse Ratchett look like a saint-- zero empathy or caring and pretending not to understand a word of English. Be prepared to wait forever and never see a doctor (and clearly there was some racist prioritization happening). I waited in a fairly empty waiting room for 6 hours and ended up giving up at around 4 am as not one person in the waiting room was brought in to see the doctor in all that time...and some of them were there for more than twice as long as me. You would be better off finding a guy with shiny tools in a alley way than going to the ER in this hospital. Do not waste your time.

(Translated) This hospital center is a breath of fresh air unlike the old hospitals in the Montreal region. Admittedly, there is a period of adaptation with any new system, which can create expectations. For my part, I frequent this establishment several times a year and I consider everything effective: The check-in kiosks, the waiting time (with RV), the quality of care, listening to the medical staff and the facilities are excellent. Be advised, this hospital center is huge. It will possibly be overwhelming to find your way around, however the departments are well identified and the volunteers are there to help you. If you live in Montreal, I suggest you go by public transportation. (Translated) The system of appointments in clinics is hard enough. I had an appointment in April 2018 to see my Neurologist. I had to postpone meeting because the date / time did not suit me. I had the other appointment in July and I went to the hospital Notre-Dame (as usual) not knowing that the CHUM was no longer there so I missed my appointment. Now I call and I am told that I am no longer on the list of my Neurologist because I had 2 cancellations ... yet the regulation says it is 2 cancellations without notice and 3 postponements. By calling us in advance to postpone an appointment, this is a postponement! Now I pick myself up without a specialist to follow me and prescribe me for my worsening migraines. My wife had an allergic reaction and was taken to Saint-Luc . The staff were not friendly and would not speak english. It was a very terrible experience. She was kept overnight and not given any water or food. We did not know what was going on . Finally an english speaking Doctor arrived in the late morning and she let us know what was going on . Stay away

(Translated) You have to go to other hospitals and make a comparison to give a fair rating to this care establishment and other necessary events which may well have happened because if we were to compare this hospital complex to a "spa in the north" or a “VIP-floor- [5 ★] -open-bar - @ - Santa-Banana”, the CHUM, as new and disproportionately expensive as it is would receive as many stars as there are in the sky but at the opposite of the number reflect this incalculable quantity. In defense of the CHUM, it remains one of the best hospitals in America, depending on what our reference points are. It is worth noting that the small regions of Ontario have hospitals that are so efficient and full of pleasant surprises, so much in Quebec are used to being the only province with the assurance of its government of being sick, while in the " rest-of-Canada "they have health insurance ..." Tse mean ", as the other would say! [To be brief, in fact, there is so much to say about the place and the subject that I could be everything, do and say on it except that: be brief]. The majority of hospitals in Quebec do not offer the same level of quality of care and welcome as the new CHUM (which is still called new since today, January 16, 2020 I seen dozens of construction workers building a new tower that hasn't opened yet covers some 20 stories and it still shines. It is like the "new tank" of the RAMQ. I could write a fifteen page column on this establishment but I will remain briefly simple in my criticism, both positive and negative, as follows: Keep in mind that what follows is really only the tip of the iceberg, for the + as the - and that what I mention does not constitute the "broad lines of subjects to be developed" but a few examples among others that come to mind. MOST ; beginning of “chronicle”: Finally the architects, decorator and other professionals in the construction of public buildings have understood that the walls and alleys of green-vomit-which-turn-on-old-rot decrepit-toilet-pipes have nothing to increase the well-being of a human being, especially when we are talking about a place where some go there to die, visit their sick or dying loved ones or even to learn all kinds of news, ranging from unwanted pregnancy to gonorrhea. ________________ One day I will perhaps continue this criticism because I have not yet spoken of the least but I have not even yet reread what I have written so far that I realize that the | la Québécois.e moyen.ne - statistically speaking, at the very least - is not equipped (...) to go to this sentence and as it is already long and that I like to write but when 'is to be read, ideally, I would conclude temporarily and if someone appreciates the volunteer time that I put to share my experience and my opinion, he can click the little button I like and for each 5 people who will click it I will add 1000 words. I bet I could make several millions on this case | subject in particular but "the world" are SO "cheaps" that even asking for a "'ti, -clic" on "I like" is too much asked. Hope to be surprised by your reactions, ladies and gentlemen; meanwhile I have the right to express with reason and relevance the following vulgar and frantic personal assertion that in the bottom of my guts to write all this and what it comes to evoke can be summed up in five words: Ostie de Monde de Marde ! _____________________ Please note that I am grateful for the remarkable and intelligent dedicated work of CHUM professionals with whom I do business. As what nothing being neither all black nor the opposite 3 stars was the full glass thanks in particular to two individuals and one of their assistant; you will know who you are if you read this.

Perfect emergency ward! I arrived at 8 and by 12 I was examined, passed an MRI and given appointment with specialist next morning at 10! Very pleased by my experience!

Worst emergency customer service in a health service. Waiting almost 10hours . The nurse is not competitent when you try to explain your arche. Better to go to jewish hospital or Verdun for emergency problem so far . People listem to you and try to find a solution

We had an appointment in radiology at 9 pm. The process was easy and quick there were enough places to park inside. We left the building before 10 pm.

(Translated) I understand that some are frustrated because they cannot visit people dying due to the Covid but it is not the fault of the establishment; it is the govt. which dictates the rules and protocols therefore, giving the CHUM 1 or 2 stars is not badly unfair for their reputation. I was sick so I went to the nearest hospital. There were doctors and nurses. I got out and I was well within 2 days. Thanks doc

The receptionist was extremely rude to my mother who was sick. She needs Jesus. But the actual doctors were very nice.

Waited 10.5 hours in the ER to get my medication only to be told by a rude doctor that he couldn't give it to me even though this wasn't the first time I came there for that reason. He told me "well it's your fault that you didn't go get your medication at the pharmacy".

very mixed experience but overall not great... emergency is terrible, long waiting period with crackheads everywhere. I was once told that I was having muscle pain when really my kidneys were failing... but I was hospitalized a few times for longer periods of time and that's really where they shine. The new appointment system is great, you simply scan your medicare card and the waiting period is not too long. The specialist are really far on the spectrum..some are good..others are just completely terrible.

J-Y Lee

It was a really nice place to stay. Clean and nice place and the team really take good care of you. I wished I could have thanked all of them but I couldnt. Sometimes the waiting time to get the examination and the result was longer than expected but it went all well. There is one thing I want to point out though, when the nurse wanted to find the blood vein to insert the needle, she pushed my arm too hard up to my bone that even after few days, my arm hurts and I don't know why but my blood vein is yellowish green and it is painful... However, I have to say we are very fortunate to have benefit from the government for health care. Oh and it is good for people with no car. The metro station is just in front!

Great and fast service. The staff was friendly and super professional. The logistic and the patient flow could be improve a little bit (we were, for example, 6 patients called at room E09 at the same time), but overall, the experience was great.

This hospital is great. Is missing one thing: an indoor space for smokers...I see all day so many patients smoking in front of the hospital (Sanguinet St in special), some of them assisted by medical personal to go out and in. It's just sad to see ill patients on the street just to have this privilege. I guess that is hard for them to be exposed in their actual condition. I hope my words will be taken in consideration someday, you all do a great job at this hospital.

ian onsongo

The nurses and doctors are nice people but you'll wait for a very long time to get any service. I've never spent less than 10 hours there and it took only 2-3 minutes to get treated. There were less than 10 people when I got there so it doesn't make sense. Don't go there unless you absolutely need medical attention and time isn't a factor.

The longest wait ever. In all aspects and just normal service, also expensive. The worst I have ever been in Canada

This is the third time I’ve called the radiology department. I need to make an appointment for an abdominal ultrasound and I have not been able to talk to a human being in over 4h of waiting over multiple calls. I’m so exasperated. This service is so terrible.

It maybe better to stay at home and call an ambulance it will also be faster. This hospital is so slow the priority system is horrible, the conditions look good but at this pace it maybe 2020 and I will be waiting on the urgencies. Horrible!!! What a waste of taxpayers money

(Translated) CHUM EMERGENCY I have just lived 15 hours of waiting and in solidarity with the other "patients" in the emergency room of the CHUM sur Sanguinet. Troubling. Despite everything, I was treated with dedication, respect and professionalism. The staff are friendly, caring and passionate. And we did not skimp on the tests: blood test, electrocardiogram, COVID screening test, ultrasound, scanner (computed tomography), and this with results, diagnoses and prescription shortly after! Their phone msg is not clear so i can't heat the phone number. It is also hard to get the number of specific office through the operator. Otherwise it's been friendly so far.

I've had nothing but positive experiences here. Service is fast and efficient, considering the amount of people there are. Although it is an intimidatingly large building there are volunteers that help guide you in the right direction. Both doctors and nurses alike were very attentive and accomodating. Compared to other medical clinics and hospitals, the CHUM really stands out for their modern organization systems for waiting rooms and patients.

Here since 11am at the emergency. People are really nice, but... Why so long to get service?

Soraya Ghassemlou

Very long wait times. Very kind people but very understaffed. I’d rather just die at home than the hard chairs however I was lumped into the covid area because the nurse at the entrance kept talking over me and didn’t let me tell her that I’m fatigued because I’m anemic and keep forgetting my iron, not because of covid.

Waiting time was the worst I ever experienced in all the hospital where I ever been. I have been here since 5pm and as I am writing now, it is 11pm and we still haven’t seen the doctor. I would advise everyone to go everywhere else before coming here. 1:36am, we still here and no doctor or nurse came and we came in the emergency. Should we get a bullet in the leg to be receive here or what ?? This is so ridiculous! Never go there please. Worst hospital I ever visited.

Downtown hospital, with a very good emergency and nursing staff. And professional. The sector around the hospital is a bit violent and don't expect a security guard to help if you are outside.

This has to be one of the worst hospital in Montreal. The staff is terrible, they don't listen to what you're saying and are in a urge to give you a number before you get to say anything. They also tell you to sit on a chair and wait, they don't tell you you have to register, so you're stuck waiting for nothing.

Been waiting here already 4 hours in emergency center and still not attended by anyone for my deep wound on my hand and I’m still bleeding. This is the worst service that I have received ever in my lifetime. Definitely would not recommend to anyone who wants an emergency treatment. PS: I have been asked to pay $1192.57 up in front to get my emergency treatment and they aren’t taking any private insurance details for claiming directly

Emil West

My daughter was born at this hospital. I presented with a fever during the birth, so we had to stay for an extra 2 nights. The nurses were all great: very nice and helpful. They showed us everything we needed to know to feel confident in caring for our first baby. The food was fine (not great, not terrible), and there was enough food with each meal that my husband and I could share (Neither of us have a huge appetite). It is a French hospital, so some of the nurses and other staff do not speak English fluently. If you cannot communicate in French at all, this is probably not the best hospital for you. But if you have a working knowledge of the language, you shouldn't have any problem.

Youness RED

Bad service , very weak organisation , i was there since 8 my appointment was scheduled at 9 but Was left there the whole day , you need to improve .

Arlene Maple

The ER nurses and doctors were perfect! This is the best experience I have had in an emergency room. I was in and out within an hour. The triage nurse recognized the severity of my condition and sent me straight to a doctor. I can’t thank these people enough!

Spider-Man

Be sure to check the waiting time before coming here. My finger is fractured, and I have waited for 8 hours now, yet to see a doctor. I don’t recommend English speaker to come, they some times will be rude to you. Only thing positive that I can think of is that their WiFi works fine so far.

Corto Stergard

This is the worst sham of a hospital I have ever been to. We've been in emergency for 15 hours and counting. The staff is dismissive, provide no updates, then get irritated if you ask for information. It's probably better to die on the street than to come here.

bilingual seems to be always a problem in Quebec as far as i can remember!! when listening to an answering machine from any hospital it would be nice to hear it in English also!.. considering "Quebec" is part of Canada, and Canada "IS" a bilingual Country!!

Bad very bad experience. I hate it

Mario Landa

They have a lot of improvement in their technological advancements, they were able to see my file since 2006 in just seconds. But then there is no communication between staff members, at the end the Doctor do not have any clue why I was there, so you will need to explain everything all over again several times. The waiting time is too long, a lot of people get frustrated regarding this point, they need to improve their internal processes, just the screening is the worse time waisting (lean management could help them).

(Translated) Personally I have only praise for the services I received from the majority of the departments with whom I dealt. Yes it can happen gaps or delays longer but we should stop thinking that his little person and understand that he may have more serious cases than ours or that the staff is overtaxed. It's funny, though, that most critics come from newly arrived ethnicities and they are the ones who abuse the health system the most. If your system was so perfect why did you leave? Otherwise you just have to cross the border and pay to have the services you have here for free. Worse, instead of criticizing the system, we should point the finger at the innocents who clog our emergencies with cases that should be seen in the clinic, by a pharmacist or even at home.

I went to the emergency for a UTI. The nurses were very nice, however the wait was very long. After waiting for 9 hours, the third triage a nurse saw me with my urine results, I asked him if we can do something so I don’t wait any longer since I had work at 6 am and it was already close to 2 am. The nurse William, offered to take an appointment with a doctor to a clinic next to my house the next day and send the results so the doctor would be able to prescribe the necessary medicine. William went out of his way to make sure I had an appointment and printed out my urine results just in case I would need it to explain my situation to the health professional the next day. He was empathetic to my situation and found a quick solution, I will be forever grateful to him. I hope every hospital has such a kind hearted nurse who goes above and beyond.

Joshawa Frith

Over I dislike hospitals because there icky in my opinion but I’ll be fair this is a nice hospital with friendly staff my only problems I have with this hospital is because I can only speak English I never know if my number is going to be called because some of the triage staff only speak French and call your number in French. I think it would be nice if there was a tv that has the number there calling. Aside from that I wish it was warmer more often

Urgent Care is terrible. Staff is rude and unprofessional. Been waiting here for 12 hours now to see a doctor, and no one has the courtesy to even stop to give an update. Definitely don't recommend coming here when you need medical help.

And it is because we can't give 0 star worst hospital ever... Started ok then 7.5 hours later with no food still haven't seen a doctor... and this nurse talking about well so people wait 12 hours... how is that a relevant information?!? I just left... no respect

Alphen Cheng

Arrived at 9pm, evaluation & registration were fast, but consultation wait more than 4 hours still not been called. There were 1 blank hour with no call for patient at all, no doctor on duty, or just only one? chum? Disappointed.

I like how the hospital is clean and organized in a way that we don’t get lost. They have reception once you get inside. They explain you where you should go. They also give you this tag ???? either yellow, blue or red depending on your status if you are visiting or accompanying. The only reason why it’s not 5 stars is because the time for the appointment is useless. You wait even with that specific time of appointment.

I see my specialist here regularly, and the only reason I continue to go here is because I like my doctor. There's limited to no parking (paid or free) and always construction in the area. The rest of the hospital staff is slow and inefficient on a daily basis; I can't imagine ever coming here for an emergency. I also met some employees who cannot speak English.

The people are very nice but had to wait 10 hours before seeing someone for a broken hand. I arrived at the hospital at 7pm and only left at 6:30am

Money no object! They invested billions plus of course millions $ both private and public funds. Outstanding outcome not finished yet may 2018. I visited the structural entity! Awed by the mega hospital status plus the elegant combination of old structures and modern ones. Saint Denis street runs parallel and China Town 2 blocks away. Heart of the city. Medical services to grand scale will follow. My only disappointment blank walls! Most could and should be given life with art and artistic expressions. Montreal is not short of that status. Buildings should reflect the city soul. Cafeteria and seating area a pleasure to be present. Choices immense. Temptation to come back soon in a healthier self. Staff friendly and ready to help. Technical and medical staff on the wait until all is ready to function 100 %. My record is A+ for the physical amenities proud to be a Montrealer!...Bonne guerison which finally is raison d' etre to visit this hospital!

Overall, a great hospital. Having said that, if you are an Anglophone, get thyself to one of the McGill hospitals (Jewish or Glen Site)... This hospital seems to have exempted itself from the legal requirement to provide medical services in both French and English - by comparison, I have been at small hospitals in rather remote regions of France where *everyone* at least made a good faith attempt to communicate in English. They're getting better, but I can't yet suggest that Anglophones choose this hospital.

My wife just gave birth in the new hospital, which is very beautiful. The birthing rooms are on the ninth floor and have a great view of downtown and the old port- it was a little surreal to look out and realize a new life was coming against this backdrop! All the nurses were super friendly and dedicated. Yes they speak French but we're in Montreal so what do you expect?!

Khoi Hoang

I waited for 10 hours, from 5pm to 3am in the next morning. I was cold and had a really bad flu, it had been lasted for 2 weeks. Maybe my case was not important so I was always founded in the end of the waiting list, but still, 10 hours is alot and it just made me feel tirer waiting!!!

NO ONE IS DISINFECTING THE PLACE. I've been waiting at the emergency for 4 hours and no one came to disinfect. There's hand sanitizer and not a single doctor has called in a patient. I don't understand what is happening.

Honest MTL Reviews

This review is solely for the cafeteria on the 2nd floor. One of the best kept secrets in MTL! Tons of various fresh hot and cold foods like soups, salads, wraps, fruit plates and parfait, burgers, pastas, pizzas, and rice bowls. Great portions and healthy ingredients! Everything is less than $6. One person can easily have a full meal within $10. The only downside is I found some staff and security staring at me and other visitors as if we were unwelcome. Strange because we are paying their salaries through our taxes and also subsidizing the food through our purchases. Anyway, this is a must visit and you'll never get bored of the variety!

I was waiting for 4 hours then I left. A man who checked my body first said "you have a big problem!" because I can't speak French. Just so sad. Before I left there I told security man that I am leaving and I can't wait anymore. He told me "Door is open." People were tired to wait for long time.

Worst hospital in planet earth. Waiting time more than 5 hours and they will not call you till you recover by your own. Dont get fooled by the architect of the building outside. Staff are ignorants and most of doctors are students. While I was in the room, I heard people complaning about discriminitaion and how the management determines the waiting time for each patient. Over all it is a filty place and I rather recover by my own at home. Shame on CHUM and shame on the upper management who tolaretes this type of behavious. After all the name describes who works there.

Avoid this place if you are not fluent in French. I was here for a pain emergency and I was lumped in with the covid contaminated waiting area because I have chronic migraine. I waited about 4 hours until I was hungry, discouraged and sensory overloaded to where I went home to suffer my pain with my family. I have a diagnosed condition for 5 years and a note from my doctor but it appeared I was no priority whatsoever. No one in the covid area was called back the entire time I was there. I was never given an estimate of how long the wait would be.

A real nightmare! I went there with my mother who's in a wheelchair. It was barely past noon but the parking was already closed for the day because it doesn't have enough spaces. My mother wasn't well, so finally they found us a free parking space. It the ophthalmology dept it's funny because most people waiting there to see a physician cannot see well, but when it's your turn your name is displayed in small letters on a screen. What a joke! I presume they call patients in the audiology dept! Even if we had an appointment, we waited for more than 3 hours. When we saw the physician, she was complaining about how much she dislikes the new hospital and how many patient files they have lost when they moved there. Then she told us that my mother should be examined but it takes 20 min and she wants to leave at 4, so we will be called to fix another appointment. She immediately left, before we had time to utter a word. I look forward to see the day customer service will be taught to future physicians. Too often they forget that our taxes pay their salaries. We left and at the 1st level we paid for the parking. Our car was parked on P3. We took the elevator, crossed the parking, then I help my mother in the car, folded her wheelchair, put it in the trunk, and finally drove back to the exit. There, surprise! They wanted to charge me an additional $8 because they allow a maximum of 15 min between the time we pay at the 1st level and when exit the building. I told the guy he has surely never tried to do it pushing a wheelchair. I lost a work day for nothing. We have decided to go to another hospital. Hospital managers are lucky to not lead private enterprises because with such customer experience, they would close their doors in no time.

Worst Hospital I've ever been to, and that's saying a lot as I have a long history of hospital attendance in less developed countries. Staff is incredibly rude and careless. I had to helplessly watch a man choke on his own blood and a roofied girl while waiting on my own emergency and no one was helping us. It got so out of control I even dialed 911 (who were also incredibly rude) and am still waiting for a doctor, after eight hours since arrival. To make matters worse, most people refuse to speak English, even with tourists who are just simply unable to communicate in French. Lastly, as I type this on my 8th hour of waiting, the staff is scrolling through the Old Navy website and making fun of the girl who was roofied. This is a joke for any healthcare service especially for a country that so proudly brags about its system.

My operation lasted almost 16 hours made by Dr Saliba and his team at the CHUM in Montreal. I stayed two nights here after leaving the intensive care in another hospital where they decided to transfer me there. The personal was cold, unhelpful, apathic. At night, the older and disabled man next to me would scream in pain and call for help and be entirely ignored by the personal who would be too busy giggling in the hallway. I also would have to wait hours for any sort of information and nearly an hour for an insulin shot I should have received immediately. The food was bad. The personel is awful. The waiting time is horrid. Never going back.

2 years ago, I had nothing else better to do one afternoon so I was near the CHUM and I decided to go in and check it out to see where our tax paying money went to. I spent 20 minutes walking around and sitting at the cafeteria. Very spacious and clean place. (Translated) The staff are kind and helpful. However, the wait is too long for the few people there was in the waiting room (less than 20) and putting a single doctor in the emergency room of this huge complex does not make any sense at any time. I spent 12 hours of time there and I could not go elsewhere to do the necessary tests to assess my situation. In all this time I only spoke for a maximum of 5 minutes with this doctor who was very nice and knew how to diagnose my important problem. But who did not find the time to properly collect the information concerning my situation to give me all the information that would have been useful to me to know. So I had to call 811 the next day to have more info on what I should do and could do given my temporary situation, but all of these can cause serious pain. But what prompts me to put two stars is that there was a hole in the membrane supposed to separate the hot zone from the non-covid zone. A hole I noticed when I left. In short, I had a good experience with the staff, some minor things in the management could be optimized to improve the waiting time, but the size of the center makes it also subject to a lot of traffic I believe as normal. Unfortunately, I believe there will always be a long wait in the emergency room at this establishment.

(Translated) I presented myself for an open and deep knee wound. Great hospitality, doctors and nurses are attentive and the waiting time is well managed. (Translated) I would like to point out that those who complain of waiting for hours in the emergency room usually come for a medically NON-URGENT case. We do not go to the emergency for a small break of anything, we go to a clinic without appointment to have stitches. When you have a sore throat, you stay at home. When one thinks of having an STD, one consults in EXTERNAL. Same thing when you want the pill the next day or that you wake up the day or that you do gastric reflux after drinking too much alcohol. Believe me, if you come for something urgent, a real emergency, you will be seen in half an hour. It makes me laugh to see people who are bemoaning about the fate of their little person while at the base, their case is not even urgent. It is because of all these small trivial cases that waiting times are so long.

Eric W.

(Translated) In the emergency room there are a lot of nurses, so the sorting is done in a reasonable time. But once again in the waiting room to see a doctor, people drop by. There seems to be not enough doctors on the spot.

(Translated) Following a call to 811 I was recommended to go to the hospital due to symptoms of Covid, I arrived at the emergency room on December 24 at 8:30 am, I waited 15 minutes, they told me went through triage quickly, yet I was not in critical or urgent condition. I did a blood test, electro, and radio and at 1 p.m. I left the hospital, everything was fine, other hospitals it's 8 hours without seeing a doctor. Professional staff, well organized and human, hospital at the cutting edge of technology, even being on the south shore, it is really worth the detour.

Your childish language politics should have no place within the walls of a hospital.

Avoid this hospital at all costs. I came to the emergency room and was turned away because I didn't have a medicare card. I had private insurance with Blue Cross, and I know I was covered because I had gone there before (by ambulance, not by choice). The woman was extremely rude and literally said, "No money, no doctor!" Please keep in mind that all of this was happening during an emergency (which later required surgery). I assure you that this hospital will leave you to die if you are registered with a private insurance company that they're not used to dealing with. The first time I had gone to this hospital (by ambulance), I met the triage nurse who was clearly belittling the state that I was in, and for whatever reason treated me as though I was faking my pain. I ended up needing to do surgery later because of that pain. During that visit, I gave them my blue cross card SEVERAL times, and they printed it SEVERAL time, and a year and three months later, I receive a letter from RAMQ telling me that the hospital charged them when I'm not covered!! The idiots have charged RAMQ instead of my private insurance which they had requested several times. Please please please, go to the Montreal General or to the Jewish General. If your ambulance is taking you there, absolutely refuse!!! Unless you have a death wish. I ended up doing both my surgeries at the Montreal General, where people are extremely professional, and everything went smoothly. I would also like to mention that I come from a third world country and the worst hospital in the third world is far more superior than this one!

Hosam Elserti

Simply its the best hospital in Montreal, exceptional staff, Amazing doctors, they are very fast and efficient in everything they do, i had a surgery over there and everything just went perfect thank you so much Dr Eric bessada from the ORL team ,thanks to all the nurses over there unfortunately i can't remember all the names because they were so many but i remember Rachel an extraordinary nurse, thank you guys from all my heart

Lacks organization, lacks professionalism, lacks of competent staff. This hospital lacks everything. Don't waste your time here. This hospital is trash filled with the worst possible staff.

Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal, known collectively as CHUM, is a collection of buildings, new for the most part and impossible to miss, especially if you are in the eastern part of downtown Montreal. CHUM is a welcome addition to a growing city that is notorious for shortages in hospital beds and medical institutions.

I fell down alone as an international student and broke a major bone. It was extremely scary moment and very painful. The paramedics did a very professional job also in reassuring and coming back several times in the emergency room. I can't say how much this helped in the first hours of the injury. The staff in the emergency room went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and always attented to, making sure the bed was right and pain medications were given promptly. Even going as far as making sure my leg was on pillow properly. The surgeon after this calmly answered all my questions, made sure that the surgery would be as comfortable as possible and afterwards visited me every day in the recovery room to check up on my progress. In the recovery room nurses were very coordinated and took genuine interest. if something was recommended by one nurse all the others would know about it. They were very friendly and always willing to go the extra mile. The physio helped me to be able to independently leave the hospital within a week, again coordinating well with the nurses. It might seem small but little things like this and the amazing care of all the staff made one of my most scary times very comfortable and i'm now well on my way to recovery! Thank you very very much!

Went to CHUM because my Urologist works out of that hospital and I was experiencing a kidney stone attack. Severe pain. Once I arrived at the Emergency I was quickly brought into the back where I was quickly evaluated and given morphen for the pain. I spent the night there, where I was very well cared for by an exceptional crew of Orderlies, Nurses and Doctors. They showed nothing but compassion and concern for my well being. It was touching to experience, as I was not used to such an experience in a hospital (although I don’t frequent often). As a result, they turned a ‘negative’ memory into a ‘positive one simply by their professionalism and care. I won’t forget it. A class institution with modern equipment and an exceptional staff. Thank you again. I won’t forget it.

Staff is friendly, sure. That is likely the only reason why patients aren't walking, crawling or rolling out in droves. Maybe the doctors can speak english, but certainly no one else, like AT ALL. They will keep changing their minds about surgery, wait until the evening while not giving any food because of the pending surgery, only to change their minds. Good luck trying to get fed, they will instead joke about being happy to lose weight. Recommendation: If you are conscious, tell the ambulance to take you anywhere else. It can't be worse but it can almost certainly be better anywhere else.

I think the worst department is the ophthalmology... We've been going to this hospital for so long because I can't transfer my aunt's files to another hospital... What an absolute embarrassment of a facility. They are clearly understaffed in the ER room and don’t know how to efficiently triage patients. If you don’t come here on the verge of death, don’t be surprised if you’re waiting 8+ hours for any form of care. My thumb was badly cut at night and it needed some stitches. I went to CHUM ER and waited there for 6 hours (10:30 PM - 4:30 AM) and finally got fed up and left without seeing a doctor. The nurse at the triage room put a gauze on my wound which later was stuck on it and the other nurse removed it kind of by force which was painful and the wound was torn and bled a lot again. (So, I was wondering why they did not bother to put a none sticky one on it.) They couldn't even give me an estimated waiting time and when I asked them if I could leave and seek a doctor the next day somewhere else, they advised me to stay. Then when finally I was fed up and wanted to leave, the same nurse told me that my case "was not emergency enough" and I could get an appointment to see a doctor in a clinic. (I was wondering why they hadn't told me this 6 hours before that, and let me wait there for ever for nothing. In fact, they advised me to stay!) There were people waiting there for 10-12 hours without any luck. The waiting time length is ridiculous. They only had two doctors for the night shift which only one was visiting the people in the waiting room. (The other one was probably looking after the ones coming by ambulances).Considering CHUM is a master hospital, this does not make sense. Finally I could see a doctor the next day in another clinic and got stitches. Overall, my experience with CHUM ER was very bad.

You cannot have people waiting 4 or more hours to get medical attention. Except one of the security guards, who was rude, the staff (nurses) was good, caring and respectful. I got called for triage quite rapid. I had a cellulitis in my arm and felt terrible. After almost 5 hours waiting in the room I left. I hope I don't die. This is not the responsibility of Drs, nurses and other personnel of the hospital. This is responsibility of the health care system. I lived several years in countries like Spain, Denmark and UK. The health care system they have is way far better than the one we have here. It's a real shame. I hope people in Quebec and Canada can see this and push for a change.

The Worst! I give up on health care in Montreal. I waited for 6.5 hrs and left. When I politely asked what place I was in , the nurse quickly shut me down and wouldn't even answer a simple question. I just wanted to know if I can take Advil for the pain!! I was there from 5:30pm-12am. If you speak only English, go to a hospital in the west. Also the staff seem snobbish and need to remember they're there to help sick people not to gossip. A homeless guy was obviously in pain but they were just yelling at him. At one point they kicked him out because he was drinking. He came back 4 times by ambulance. He was difficult but they need training in how to deal with certain situations. The security guard on duty was really nice. They need to make him a front end nurse.

Overt Diver

I've been waiting for 9hrs and counting. I've seen better facilities in most of the third world. I have probably become more ill from just being in their facilities. The cleanliness of the establishment was a remminant of what you would expect from a colonial veterinarian hospital.

themightyfishhooks

Some of the staff here seem to have real contempt for non French-speaking people. I have worked in hospitals, so I understand the burnout and the stress of being understaffed, but this is really messed up. I was waved away with a dismissive hand gesture and told several times “SOIS PATIENT!” by a receptionist when I was trying desperately to ask which selection to make when choosing a number at the electronic kiosk. It was a bad start. The nurses in triage are good, but another nurse walked away from me after giving me a lot of information in French, upon my response “Mon francais est terrible. Desolee.” Another patient explained what she had told me. The nurse did not even attempt to explain. DO NOT GO TO CHUM IF YOU DO NOT SPEAK FRENCH. YOU WILL BE TREATED SO POORLY. They have a vendetta, and it will effect your health. I waited 8 hours and never saw a doctor. I had to leave because I had not arranged pet care. The speakers announcing patients names are not loud enough, so while you are stressing about your medical emergency, you can also expect to feel nervous about missing your turn. This is for everyone, not just anglophones. French-speaking people were complaining about not hearing their names being called, too. They need to fix that, because the staff seem very bitter. They seem to lack the resources which allow for communication and compassion. I was referred to the ER by a doctor at a clinic, for the record, and had a written referral explaining possible diagnosis (fairly serious serious condition, if that is indeed the case). It didn’t matter. Avoid this ER. It will make you feel a lot worse. I am seeing a lot of other negative reviews left by anglos and non whites, too. I wonder if this indicates a deeper problem, one which clashes with universal medical ethics.

Charles S.

My step father was admitted to emergency a couple of days ago, and I was amazed and even shocked at how helpful and friendly the staff was. Compared to other hospitals this was refreshing!! The nurse even said thank you after talking for a few minutes with my step father. In other hospitals they just ignore you. There is also a surprising level of bilingualism. In fact a couple of times the staff switched to English. All in all, I am favorably impressed.

The only star goes to the nurses who generally do an excellent job. Doctors are only interested in the financial aspect. I was impressed with the system that you register with on arrival, very easy to understand and use ( I hope other hospitals adapt this method). My appointment was prearranged prior to my visit, waiting time was about 15 minutes. The installation of a monitor for PH Metrie oesophagienne was performed by Benny Eouani she was attentive caring and commuicative, what a great experience for me, Next day I had the monitor removed by Benny Eouani , was on my way home after 15 minutes. Impressed YES Thank you

I've been there and won't go back. I had to wait many hours (+7H and it wasn't crowded) until I change to another hospital which they right away diagnosed a serious problem and did an emergency surgery as I was heavily suffering. (Less than 1H in a lesser state of the art facility but with professional staff) If you have a medical problem, I would suggest you consult another place. They do offer super food but that's not a priority when you have a serious ailment or injury. Not to mention that those who work there some have trouble in both official languages and the security lacks good judgement. Feels like you're in a border control office with cold, rude or sleepy guards and staffs. (Literally sleeping) For a futuristic medical facility, it does have many issues which doesn't reflect the technological pitch. * Compassion, communication, professionalism and faster execution of diagnosis and treatment are expected every day from the most expensive hospital ever built in Canada. That's just the norm.

John Han

Very kind staff and short wait time. Can't complain!

My only complaint is the indoor parking. I am not a stupid person, but it took me 20 minutes to find the exit !!!!!! I just kept going around in circles..THE SIGNS ARE NOT WELL MADE AT ALL. I have a sever lower back injury and can't walk and the staff are treated it like less than nothing not examining me and not helping or resolving anything, actually made it worse by moving me too roughly and they're solution was just more pain killers, no x-rays nothing. Eventually they just told me the doctor won't see me anymore. It basically criminal. My back is still injured and I still can't walk.

garbage. Came at 3 p.m. , by 2 a.m. i still didnt see any doctor, and by the looks of it, it was still gonna take a while. They forced me to waste those 11 hours for nothing, because if I leave I will have to start all over again. i had a serious condition that really required medical supervision, but unless you have high body temperature or blood pressure you gonna be slapped to the end of the waiting line. I observed some people who came hours after me and then left hours before I finally decided to give up. Unless you have a life threatening condition dont even bother with this shitplace, just got to a closeby medical clinic even if you have to throw in a little cash

Summary - Can not provide emergency care in English and it is a real problem.I get the language state here but this a main hospital ER and there are over a million anglos in the greater area. At some point people are going to die because of this. Full Review - So, first of all I was at the ER with my Partner and there was some pluses. 1. Wait time to go in and be discharged was in total under two hours. (Partner was pretty ill, which I assume helped) 2. Doctor tried to be as helpful as he could. 3. Quick follow up from a referral. Now the cons. 1. No English support from either the triage nurser or the doctor on call and the attending nurse. It left us feeling very uninformed and was oddly scarry. 2. Very rude staff, one Registration nurse asked us why we did not speak french ( While my partner was crying in pain) 3. Very dirty for a new hospital(poop on the seat and floor of the bathroom in the room we were taken to and rotten fruit left on a seat in the ER waiting room for ex) We arrived at the hospital at 3:00pm on a sunday, my partner was having severe bloating and had vomited up some blood. She had been having some issues with her IUD so we figured it might be related. When we arrived, the triage nurse did not speak any English. We are both Anglos (we moved here a few months ago) and so they brought in a translator. We asked to see a different nurse but none of the triage nurses working spoke English well enough to converse. The translator was in no way a medical professional and had not heard of an IUD. We had to google it to show her, it was very awkward moment. In addition the nurse could not see very well and had a magnifying glass, she misspelled both the first and last name of my partner as well as got her birthdate wrong despite it being on the health card. After Triage we had to wait a bit longer to get checked in as there was only one nurse who could really speak English well at the desk. He was quite rude and at one point asked why neither of us spoke French. A very non relevant thing at the time, at least for my partner and I. While waiting security was removing a homeless woman who was there and was escorting her out to the ER waiting room with her pants around her ankles and a broken garbage bag of clothes falling all over the place. They escorted her to a bathroom and demanded she get changed and leave, she was in there for 30 mins crying very loudly before yelling a bit. Nothing was done to help the situation. The security were very rude to several other people in the ER as well, basically anyone who looked to be of a transient state. I understand the area and I do realize they have issues of this nature but my god, they treated people so badly, it felt as if I was not in Canada. Once we were called to go in, we were taken to a room that had not properly been cleaned. The bathroom has fecal matter on the seat of the toilet and floor, a dirty glove by the bed, in general it was just dirty. A nurse asked my partner to change which is when we found the poop in the bathroom. The doctor came and performed an ultrasound with an attending nurse, both spoke only in french for about 10 mins. When they finished, the doctor did his best to explain what he found in English and was helpful but he was clearly not well versed enough to converse fully. In general I have heard a lot of horrible stories about Quebec healthcare but I was just more shocked at the language barrier even at the hospital. I suppose next time we will have to go to Jewish General if we want to actually understand what is happening. Going here if you are an anglophone makes the experience fairly awful if not a bit scary. In general the place is kinda dirty and security is incredibly rude. I would not feel safe here if I was extremely ill and on my own.

Ridiculously long wait times for the emergency even when they are less busy

I was here for an urgent medical attention with my wife for 2 days...a brand new reference hospital, the staff are very welcoming, great listeners, quick to react to an emergency situation, a thorough follow through treatment by the treatment team - pabs, nurses, physicians, technologists and administration, ensuring patients' comfort and most of all wellness. Tests results were out in no time (short turnaround time) even though emergency running at 195%. Kudos for the hard work

Anne Champoux

(Translated) Fast service. I did not even wait 1 hour in the emergency room. The staff was smiling and in a good mood :) I managed to have an appointment for an ultrasound in less than 1 week. This is a very professional, caring, clean hospital. When my husband was told by MUHC they didn't know what to do with his cancer the surgeon at the CHUM took him on, and 13 months later he is still alive. They provide ALL resources necessary, and truly care about their patients. This is the way health care ideally is delivered. Bravo, CHUM!

Rachid Doudo

(Translated) Very nice hospital, very modern, very design and technological. However, waiting 10 hours in the emergency room before seeing a doctor is unacceptable. Security guards harass patients to prevent them from lying down or resting during the long wait. No matter what your condition or how badly you are suffering, you will not be entitled to any comfort. This place is inhuman.

More than 2 hours of waiting. Calling only in French. After that, the ER prescribed an antibiotic for a presumably staphylococcal skin infection. I made noticed her that my husband had 160-110 of blood pressure. She said that we should check with our GP ( that we don’t have) but still and I quote:” it does not matter if you have hypertension for 20 years”. The antibiotic prescribed was amoxicillin clavulanic which is totally wrong for a skin infection with suspicion of staphylococcus and moreover she prescribed a high dose (pneumonia dose!). My husband has no improvement with the treatment (naturally as the diagnosis and management is wrong).

Rik Ravelli

One of the worst hospitals you can go to. No one knows what they are doing, you are send from the 1st to the 3rd floor and back the whole time. Not to mention the hours you have to wait before you get help (12 hours at emergency). Be smart and choose another hospital.
