My daughter had a miscarriage recently at royal inland hospital . She was working at a coffee shop at the time ,she had to take some time from work due to the loss of her baby . In the hospital after she had passed what they call the "fetus" , a nurse took the baby and flushed him down a toilet right in front of my daughter without consulting her . In our culture that baby would have recieved a burial just like any other family member . If that wasnt bad enough the manager of the coffee shop knows the nurse who flushed my grandson down the toilet . She had her friend ,the nurse who flushed my daughters baby down a toilet, come to my daughters place of work and stand in the back in sight of my daughter while she was working . This reasonably disturbed my daughter . My daughter called tim horton main office and they are now looking for a new manager to replace that awful person . The nurse who participated in this has had no consequences at all for her role in abusing my daughter . I would give them zero stars if i could .

Always get superb care while there! Nurses and Doctors are always patient and cariing

I went there for the first time last night and I had a terrible experience. The timing wasn’t too bad, but for what I needed and how little of patients there were it could’ve gone faster. I went in with extreme ear and throat pain, along with infected eyes. I was put into an ENT room, waiting in a very uncomfortable chair for around 2 hours. The door was wide open so everyone could see me, I was basically left there invisible. Nobody bothered to check on me while I was clearly upset, and extremely uncomfortable, I watched everyone else get help and had the pleasure of hearing all the gossip and unnecessary chatting from the nurses and Doctor’s. Finally when I was noticed, the doctor who was present at the time had quite the attitude and made it obvious she did not want to be there. She didn’t have me on her list because I was supposed to be with another doctor but he got held up, so I could hear her the whole time making a deal over me not being on her list, and I can clearly hear her from where I was sitting. She then made a snarky comment about it “just being a sore throat” and made it sound like my problem was nothing when that wasn’t even the case. She then came in and gave me an extremely poor examination and I was in tears explaining what was wrong after sitting there for hours in so much pain with no help and no bit of respect. She didn’t let me finish speaking and answering questions and rushed through helping me. I finally got what I needed which overall took 5 minutes. I was there for roughly 3 hours to receive 5 minutes of help. I left feeling like a nuisance. The only positive part of my experience was the male nurse who helped me at the end was very nice and I felt like he actually cared. Overall, very unprofessional.

Several horrible experiences at this hospital in terms of the severely lacking quality of care given when coming through ER over the past decade. Long wait times are understandable, but to finally see a doctor that dismisses you without any treatment within 5 minutes is unbelievable. I have to wait 2 days with an extremely swollen face triggered by an allergic reaction to talk to my family doctor and receive a prescription for the inflammation. Triage nurse on another occasion was absolutely awful and judgmental when seeking help with a sensitive situation.

First of all the signs say if your sick stay home but here we are with a nurse hacking all over us and then doesn’t wash his hands or use hand sanitizer and proceeds to touch everything AND It’s pretty sad the waiting room experience.. 8 chairs and now people standing in the hallway including an elderly gentleman with a cane..with all the money you receive from dontations etc you’d think you could buy some more friggin chairs.. pathetic.

The level of care is laughable and the bed side manner is even worse. The place isn’t clean, the staff of overly rude with patients, and the profiling against people of colour is obvious. My brother in law was turned away when he was in severe mental health psychosis and I was told that it was a regular occurrence that I was throwing up blood. Would never recommend this place for medical care until absolutely necessary. I’ve known people to drive all the way to Vernon for better care

Jurri deBruyn

Sherry in the ER is the most amazing, caring, fantastic (we could list every positive adjective in the book) nurse we have ever experienced. Had a wonderful experience with the rest of the staff as well and a comfortable overnight with our 11 month old. Quite impressed as out-of-towners in a bind. Thanks again! Keep up the good work!

It's actually the worst hospital I have ever been in. Treated with a stigma that doesn't apply to me anymore. They're not nice. I will die at home before I go back there. I got sent home twice with gas when I actually had gangrene in my gallbladder. I almost died and had to argue ( which classified me as violent) to be admitted that day while in terrible pain. Of course, this happened years ago. But I hold them in the same light as they do me. Not the nurses fault either. All on the doctors.

A very good friend...my sister's boyfriend experienced a very serious car accident a week ago. He was rushed to this hospital and on life support. His wounds and other injuries are terrible. Broken back, elbow, shattered shoulder and scapula. Surgeries to close huge gash in his scalp and rods put in his back. He was discharged yesterday, 6 days later and only one day after leaving ICU. He was given one hour to get out with nowhere to go from there and he can't walk. My sister who was visiting had to find a wheelchair and wheel him out herself. They have been given no instructions as to wound care etc...she had to call a cab and they are staying in hotel in Kamloops. She lives in Burnaby and no way to transport him home. He cannot sit in a car for the 3 hour trip as he is bedridden. He is not fit to fly. If she had not visited him, he would have been kicked out to fend for himself alone and he is very very sick. He belongs in a hospital. This sort of thing can be life threatening.

My husband was in a serious car accident a few months ago and the staff and the doctors were great! The rooms on the wards were really hot especially at night but with a fan he did ok. They got him in for a surgery within the week of the accident and the General Surgeon who looked after him was great at explaining what was happening and helped fill out some insurance papers. Getting discharged was a bit of a long process, but again, the General Surgeon was very involved with getting all the necessary people to sign him off as good to go. The nurses on the 6th floor high observation room were some of the most amazing people I've met and were very informative. The nurse in the ER who looked after him all night until he could go to a bed on the ward was fantastic, she found me an awesome recliner chair to stay in through the night with him. There were many more great staff involved with his care and I want to thank everyone for all their hard work!

It depends on what area you’re going to and what your problem is, because the general consensus here is if you’re needing the ER (even if it’s serious), you’ll be waiting a very long time, usually accompanied by rude and uncaring staff. I need blood-work done some times and while that’s a hit or a miss with how you’re treated, I feel like they’ve improved in that area especially being more professional. The ER remains the same and in some ways it’s more busy and worse than before, the constant construction and confusing layouts outside don’t help with the overall experience.

Simran Sidhu

Waiting times are ridiculous. I could drive to kelowna, go to a walk-in, and come back in the time it takes to be seen by a Dr here

Staff needs an evaluation, a vast majority of them needs to be replaced. People need to speak up and make reports to interior health, get the names of these idiots treating you like crap and get them fired.

I went to the hospital with a lot of pain in my shoulder the doctor said it was fine since I could move. Not even a MRA was taken. 8 months later after a lot of pain in Vancouver a doctor finds out my shoulder was dislocated and now the joint is destroyed. Everything thanks to a careless doctor. I will need surgery now. I feel awful for the people in Kamloops that have to deal with so much negligence.

My mom was here for 4 days for a very detailed and serious surgery. Day nurses were excellent....especially Jeff in 6 North...thankyou for being so extra kind/thoughtful and the nurses in the recovery area who snuck us in so we could just peak on my mom to make sure she was ok. Night nurses were ok but incredibly noisy...I dont think there is a need to joke, laugh, screech and shout down the hallways about your weekend plans...very sick people are trying to sleep and heal and you as nurses should be aware of that. Overall though, a good experience during a very upsetting time.

I think this is probably one of the worst ER I’ve ever been to. They have no doctors the wait times are 9+ hours, Kamloops has no doctors in general so everyone who has anything wrong with them has to go to the ER. The waiting rooms are crammed and last time I was there I was moved from two different zones after almost being the next person in line. At this point the only help I can get is online doctors. I’d rather live in the states and pay to actually get looked at right away and have doctors who actually care.

Kesh Cuerrier

This hospital is a joke. Your better off driving your sick or elderly patients to Kelowna.

Harvinder Singh

Everything related to treatment and hospital staff is good. I went there in december, was in pain because of a road accident. had to drove to emergency, parked my car and just went in. Next i got to know was I had a parking ticket. Like COMMON sense, if somebody comes in with an emergency will he think about parking ticket ???

Joey Jezequel

If I If I could give a no start rating I would the staff lady that answered the door was rude she had no clue what was going on but she tried to say it was this or that when she didn't even know. It was the upmost disrespectful and called security honest for no reason my girlfriend is liking sick and doesn't even know where she was going and she needed somebody to go with her and just rude and inconsiderate

Blake Carstensen

Having lived in places like Vancouver Langley Abbotsford Alberta this hospital is by far the worst in terms of service and speed. because there is such a shortage of doctors in Kamloops you'll likely get a revolving door treatment and may not get property diagnosis. I've left there on multiple times with no diagnosis other than minimized conclusions like, a cough or muscle strain only to eventually be diagnosed to be diagnosed by others with bronchitis and torn bicep tendon I separate occasions. The parking here makes zero sense and the wait times are very long.

Mahbubur Rahaman

Going to emergency section is always poor idea. Take your all day with yourself if you are planning to go emergency. Wait in line to see nurse, wait to get registered, than wait to get call from Dr. Assistance to wait another round, then wait again to see your Dr. It doesn't make sense to waiti 2-3 hours for emergency.

Kristina M. Schwende

I had to take my husband in to emergency last year. As it turned out, he had a mini-stroke. He was seen within about 15 minutes, which was astounding in and of itself! The nurse and neurologist who saw him were both exceptional. They exceeded my expectations.

Trandana

this hospital is a joke. Don't expect doctors to take your case seriously

Alexandra Papps

My colour of skin seemed to play a factor in my care. I came in before 4 other adults with the same symptoms. I described my pain as a 7. The other said 3 or 4. I was last helped. I wasn't offered pain meds. I was sent home while other people were admitted. The Dr yelled at me about how the medical systems works. I submitted a complaint and the Dr told me about how I had upset him. Upset he had a complaint. His Apology to me was all about how he felt and taking a 30min course on First Nation was the only corrective action.

Being a native woman, I'd be scared to have my baby here. I don't want to be like that woman who had her baby taken away because she was still medicated after having her baby, by c-section.

Michele Hadley

No one , including staff , does anything about people blatantly smoking right in front of the" no smoking signs". Please, please, deal with this. There has never Been a time when I have driven up to the admitting entrance when there hasn't been at least 2 or three patients or visitors there smoking

Alfred R. Penny

I'm so lucky to have such a fine hospital 3 blocks from my home. I've called on their services many times over last 2 decades. I've even gone there on many occasions just for lunch in their public cafeteria. You can get a great bowl of soup for $2.00

I really appreciate and respect all the work that these healthcare workers do, but I really had a terrible time with their psychiatric care. I came in at 10 am, and I wasn't in 1 South until 9pm. Every single physical health patient was seen before me, and I was ready to walk out. Idk if this is a systemic issue or just an RIH thing, but treating mental health patients this way will dissuade them from seeking care. I certainly was, and until the new psych unit is open and new staff who don't gossip about you are hired, I will do everything I can to steer clear of RIH psych care.

Karlee Shields

I’ve had maybe two times in the many times I’ve gone there where the doctor in emerg was actually nice. Nothing but condescending attitude from them. One time the doctor actually showed anger towards me when I was visibly in pain & crying. If they don’t want to help people they should’ve picked a different career. I would rather suffer than go here. Trash.

I had a procedure in the Ambulatory Care Unit yesterday. The intake process was efficient, the prep. nurse was friendly and funny, the doctor friendly and communicated well. He even wheeled me down to the OR himself because they were running late. They were a bit behind time-wise but I understand that unexpected things can happen in ORs causing delays. The nurses in recovery were also great, the doctor spoke to me after and explained everything. Overall, the best possible experience (not that a hospital visit is ever fun). Thank you to all involved at Royal Inland.

Michael Ronneseth

Not that we like to go but this week we had to, TWICE ☹ Both times the staff were great. Yes we had to wait a little but we weren't dying. I find it frustrating that people don't appreciate that we can go to a hospital for essentially free and because we have to wait for service they complain. Many will wait in the rain for 8hrs to get a stupid new iPhone and complain about having to wait for medical services. The doctor's were fast, friendly and thorough. Much appreciated ladies and gentlemen, thank you again for doing what surely must be a tough thankless job at times.

Tony Nike

the nurses and doctors here are just so rude and act like they couldn’t care less about what you’re going through. huge shame for people that are meant to be compassionate

Horrible parking during the week. Getting a spot is just about as lucky as winning the lottery.

My Mother is 90 years old and she has been in ER a couple of times over the last month. I saw the average reviews and had to say something. The nurses are running off of their feet looking after a full ER and Medicare is paid for ...we can not forget that! Patience is required when there isn't an emergency. I came up on a Sunday night to pick up my Mother from the ER and waited in Triage for an hour like everyone else. The Medi-van was booked up so one of the nurses came outside and helped me load my Mom into my truck which was which was interesting but we made it. I'm extremely happy with RIH staff!

Omg... were to begin... If you want to be treated as thou you were getting care in a 3rd world country for medical attention, Come here for the exsperience. Frightening and traumatising. If you have not read about the "doctor" who came to emerg complaining of chest pains then died right there because he was not triaged as an emergency,Please find the article and read. The Hospital could not even take care of one of there own. Serious issues at this hospital completely and utterly horrible as you can see by reading all the other posts. Millions spent on a new parking lot with no care budjet for doctors or nurses badly needed. They are supposed to serve the comunity. Maybe if more people complain something might be done>? Let us pray.....

21-May-2021: A 97 year old WWII Veteran is currently laying alone in RIH 4N. He had been admitted last Wednesday, after a fall in the shower at home, with vertebrocostal fractures. Two days later he then required surgery after a "unwitnessed fall" on 6N, that left him with a fractured left hip and required internal fixation. Not only did it take RIH nursing staff almost 12hrs to inform me of the incident, but their utter lack of care or responsibility for this incident occurring at all was outrageous. I was nurse for years, and I can honestly say I never had a patient fall. Yes, accidents happen...but this was completely preventable if appropriate fall precautions had been taken, and staff had listened to me regarding what to expect from his in hospital. I told them he would get disoriented and try to get up at night to go to the bathroom. I told them he is practically deaf and does not understand the "medical jargon" being thrown at him, behind a mask. Common sense tells you that if an elderly patient is being admitted from a fall, and has a history of previous falls, then they are likely to fall again. His bed alarm should have been on and the checks on him should have been more frequent. Now he's struggling with fluid build up on his lungs and swallowing issues. Has a doctor been in touch with me tell me the specifics of the surgery...which I requested the do...not a word. Are nursing staff or the Patient Care Coordinator bothering yo keep me informed of how he's doing and what his treatment plan is...another thing I requested....but no. So there is a 97 year old man, who fought for his country, alone and being inadequately cared for...and I'm not allowed to see him. He very well may die alone and terrified, which I know so many of our loved ones have during this pandemic...but this is my loved one, and RIH holds a significant amount of responsibility for his current condition.

Worst hospital in the area. If you care about your family do not let them go here

Jason Lesarge

Generally good care, parking has gotten better and the staff seem to genuinely care. The IV therapy nurses are hit and miss, first visit they were friendly but today my wife was spoken down to repeatedly. One bad apple can bring down the morale of an entire crew, unacceptable from a senior staff member.

gee cee

Parking is absolutely ridiculous but outside this, it is the very best hospital in Kamloops. If you're bleeding out, heart attack, having a baby suddenly, i would recommend this hospital over driving to the next nearby city for emergency services. Minus one star for parking. Huge thumbs down to the ppl who park here all day that have absolutely nothing to do with going to the hospital. You suck, not Covid suck, but at least one thumb down suck.

TazziFroot

Went here last year because of a severe allergic reaction. I was there for several hours as they had to watch me, however, the nurses were phenomenal and very patient with my anxiety, AND they brought my phone in for me! I was treated with respect and dignity the whole time. I have huge respect for all hospital staff during this time, I understand it must be really hard with covid and all that.

The staff here are racially profiling new parents and reporting mothers to child services 2 hours after having a C-section for sleeping. If you are native and you want to deliver a baby here, you must be awake at all times or else you are a bad mother apparently. Even if you just had major surgery and gave birth 90 minutes ago, you have to be awake and alert, even if you were given pain killers by your doctor that make you drowsy. They don't care. A baby was stolen from this hospital for this reason a couple weeks ago. A NEWBORN baby was STOLEN from their MOTHER because of the staff at THIS HOSPITAL.

Alina K

Almost no problems with the staff (unless they forget to inform you about something pretty important and you'll have to go through all the procedures all over again) of the hospital, but they way hospital is operated is just terrible. Long lines in the emergency(!!!) and streaming room. You can actually get to spend up to 2 hours waiting. Whether it's the way it work or lack of staff, it's just terribly inefficient way to work with patients. Also, communication between doctors, doctors and patients sometimes nonexistent. You'll have a hell of an experience to get your own results.

Just had an awful experience last night and thought I’d warn anyone else thinking “emergency” at royal inland is anywhere close to helpful. Had a mishap last night that I’ll keep private. Immediately went to emergency, there was 1 person waiting and no one else, the place was empty. They took their time to get me in but eventually got me in a waiting room, then into a curtained room. I waited in that room for a good 1/2 hour before someone even came in. They gave me some pain meds and told me someone would be in shortly. An hour later someone takes my blood. Then 2.5 hours go by, no one has come in or even helped me in my condition which was causing me severe pain. My partner and I then got frustrated because we didn’t even know if anyone was going to come help me. We went outside the room and tried to leave as by this time it was 5 or 6am. We had been waiting. We went to emergency for a reason and they treated it like I wasn’t even there. They told us to wait 30 more minutes for paperwork at the door. We waited and then they said the doctor we need isn’t in and I am going to need to come back at 10am the next day for a full day of testing. So by this time I would get 3 hours of sleep before having to return when they could have just told me at the very beginning to come back so I at least wouldn’t be exhausted. VERY unprofessional, VERY frustrating as it wasted my time especially when no one else was waiting in any part of the hospital. I feel like WHY have healthcare when this is what happens in the time of emergency. I’m currently still in pain, and going to head to a clinic during the week as I feel like that would be faster results. This hospital is horrible. Watch out!!

Enchanted Camper

It's sad that we actually have to put a review on something like a hospital. However after being stuck there for 18 days I feel I should. The food: If you can call it that. Veggies amd fruit were ways freezer burnt, then nuked to the point of having zero nutritional value. The meats were always the absolute lowest quality. The soups so waterd down we couldn't tell what type of broth they used. There's nothing positive to say about it. The Doctors: I saw 5 different Dr's throughout my lengthy stay. No one was helpful. They have no answers but instead of sending to someone who might, they decided to play the wait and see what happens game. The nurses: Have the time my nurse was only an RN so she couldn't deal with picc line, which meant always waiting for new IV. I was in isolation because they thought my breathing issues maybe related to something I caught while we vacationed in mexico. Because of this my try had to be left outside my door. One morning it took over 45 minutes just for her to hand it in to me. The quality of care is just poor. When we pushed our buttons, it would take sometimes over 10 minutes for they to even show up/if they even did.

ZERO communication from one staff member to another. Despite my months long effort to ensure post op care be in place for my elderly parent, I was told there was "no record" of my multiple conversations with various staff members requesting home/post op support & that they'd be sent home (by bus transport to their home community 65 km away!) without any plan/care in place. Absolutely ridiculous!!!

Very positive experience - I was on vacation and feeling awful. It was a long weekend and the staff were friendly, professional and efficient. Every interaction was a positive one. The doctor I saw was friendly and diagnosed me quickly & accurately. Thanks to everyone at the Kamloops hospital.

If you want help DO NOT GO HERE! Horrifying experience not only in emergency but in the south 1 location where I was told I was an “involentrary patient” when I openly and eagerly was seeking out resources to connect with over depression. Staff lacks knowledge, ediquite and compassion towards not only myself but others I was staying around. Doctors don't have ant consideration towards the patients and I found in my experience as have others I spoke too that they were over medication psychiatric patients.

Worst hospital I’ve ever been to, still stuck here with something in my throat short on breath and been waiting for over 2 hours, irresponsible staff who wouldn’t even notice you died in the waiting room!

Chandler Gaine

The one star is not for the staff or nurses. They all do an excellent job and nothing but positive things to say. I'm giving it a one star because it is the most poorly run and poorly managed hospital I have ever seen. I'm not sure if the directors or managers rely on budget bonuses and that is why they cut so many corners, but it seems like the place needs a complete overhaul, and audit performed by the ministry of health and or other agencies.

yo bussey

Unfortunately for me I have been here many times. Trips to the ER during weekend projects as well as a few different surgeries, including day surgery and overnight stays. I have never had a bad experience. The staff are always professional and courteous, and they really know their stuff. I have always received the best possible care. I am thankful that I live in a community that has such a great primary care facility. A big thank you to all of the wonderful staff that work day and night to make that happen. Now if only we could do something about the parking fees...

Can't provide the basics, like a map of the hospital. Seriously interior health, we can not find a map of the hospital. Put one on your website for starters. It's no wonder people are wandering around the corridors constantly lost. The internal sinage is ~3/10 quality, and nurses have installed duct tape on the floor to compensate for the poor communication, the duct tape has been there 8+ years now. Please address the root problem, we need maps. Also, if you have an appointment for imaging? That's cool but you'll have to wait HOURS AGAIN in triage for someone to tell you what's on the imaging. Apparently if you don't hate the system by the time you're discharged, interior health hasn't done their job. Ps: nurses; we can all hear you talking poorly about patients! Maybe don't do that in the ER? The fabric walls aren't muffling your disdain for the public. After the incident in Quebec you think they would be better.

Awful. Worst and most degrading experiences of my life. Disrespectful nurses who lack empathy and patience. No sight of patient centred care anywhere. 3 separate experiences and all ended up with me transferring to another hospital a couple hours away. Never again.

Ridiculously short staffed in the whole hospital. And our room is like an oven!!!! No way to turn it down. Apparently this thermostat in our room is just for looks!!! And the only nurse that knows how to get ahold of maintenance is not on duty. What a joke

For what is, following breaking a foot after a motorcycle accident I was transported to Royal Island Hospital from 100 Mile House because of the complexity of the break. The Kamloops hospital is very busy. Emergency was packed and it took a while to get scheduled for surgery. The nurses were really friendly as best as they could be and were very hard working. Unfortunately after getting scheduled for surgery and then cancelled because of a higher priority appeared it gets frustrating after 6 days. The meals were not the greatest but it was food.

Chay Nali

Been here since 730pm. It is now 1246am. Did I mention it's for a 3 year old? Health Care in Kamloops is a joke. I wish I could say something positive but every visit here has been nothing but waiting. I hope one day it gets fixed. Especially with all those out there wanting jobs in the health field.

Gagan Ghuman1213

Too disappointing. They had my blood and uric tests and they told me that they gonna call me when they going to get the results. But they never did. I went back to the hospital a week later just to know what’s the results. And they were like let’s start all from beginning. I mean wth was that.

Anthony Parkin

As a local paramedic, I have a unique perspective on how our ER functions on a day to day basis. The staff here work very hard and are some of the most caring and compassionate PEOPLE I know. Don't forget the purpose of an EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT it's not meant to be a replacement for what a family Dr. can take care of in a clinic or office. People who use the ER for this purpose contribute to the wait times and burn out of staff.

Parking situation and hospital layout is absolutely terrible. Good luck finding emerg. Nurses are rude, and extremely unhelpful. You’ll be waiting a long time. ????

Ceder Ogier

It was only a 4 hour visit which wasnt too bad. I went in with severe stomach pain and some chest pain. The nurse was asking what I had eaten which was only 4 mostly spinach wraps all day which I threw up shortly after, okay whatever that's her job to ask that, no problems there. Then when she told the other nurses at the desk they started snickering and making fat jokes and talking about "funny" (to them) fat people stories. The same nurse asking me the questions was making fun of the doctor I had seen singing "the ginger doctor in the ginger scrubs" as she walked me down the hallway where other patients and employees could clearly hear her. And one of the nurses at the desk kept swearing. Very unprofessional.

Corissa George

Parking is absolutely atrocious but when you find a spot, more than affordable, especially if there for a long period of time. Staff are nice & helpful. I have not been in emerge myself but many of my family members have. Your typical, high traffic, larger serving hospital waits. It’s definitely clean & there is no shortage of spots to stop & wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.

Really disappointed. We were scheduled for a surgery last Tuesday. Did all prep, had patient in on time.Surgery booked for 2 230.recovery time 1 hour.Got call at 2:30 surgery cancelled. Why? Dont know.Pick up patient head home.Patient calls dr inquiries as to reason.None Two days later Dr. Calls recheduled for following Tuesday.Be there 10:45 am.Drop patient off 10:35 am as pandemic,no one else allowed in.Totally understand.Driver waits in a parking lot,For7 hours no word what so ever Driver phones inland hospital, ask for day surgery. Lady anwers 1 hour more wait. Finally patient calls and will be at front door in a few minutes . Dr and nurses listen, I know your careers are hard. I have compassion for what you do. REALLY! ALL I am asking for is a liitle compassion from you too.You took all the patients belonging early in the day and put it in z locker so there was no communication at all.Really with a Pandemic? You do this to all your patients? The person who is caring for these people need to be kept in the loop.We do care and we worry. Please this Pandemic has alot of us scared and We want to co operate. BUT THIS IS A TWO WAY RELATIONSHIP THAT NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT UP TO A HUMAN LEVEL.Allow your patients their phones to inform loved one of what the status is.until the surgery and yes by all means lock phone up then. Please heed this as Your score is low and maybe just maybe if you went the extra mile your numbers scores wiuld rocket. Sincerely M.Short

Chaz Alec

A bunch of employees that just talk behind patients backs, and whine about not being paid enough, "That's why I just wait for security." Just do your job PROPERLY, quit whining about stuff

S Lemmons

Poor nursing communication with out of country/town relatives. It's understandable to have a family spokesperson just tell the caller up-front prior to numerous transfers and then no information. I hope the care received is more compassionate.

Just recently My uncle visited for a ‘routine’ prostate surgery. He arrived for surgery at 1pm amd waited for three hours until they got him in.They noted that he had a mild heart attack at some point in his life in previous checkup. After his surgery he complained of chest pain/ indigestion and serious discomfort. The overnight nurse told him that it was from the Anesthesia amd is normal. He asked for a doctor at 4am. She said she will not call and bother doctor at 4am because of indigestion. He had a heart attack And later on a stroke. He was sent to Kelowna where they were wonderful amd tried everything but he passed away. Because of the neglect in Kamloops my otherwise healthy 73 old beautiful uncle is gone.

My very sick mother was brought to emergency dehydrated, sat there for hours, was sent home with not even a glass of water or a wheelchair to the car. The very next day my mother was taken back in an ambulance on a stretcher spent another day in the hallway without even an IV, spent 1week in ICU where the doctor recommended hospice! I couldn't believe it! My mom is being treated for a curable cancer and happened to get a reversible infection and the doctor agreed on hospice!!! The doctor also told my mom her cancer had spread, this was not true, and the doctor also told the family she was septic, which was also not true. When I arrived to dispute this, the hospice discharge nurse was already there. I fought hard, had her oncologist from Vancouver call the hospital to intercept. One week later my mother was moved to a different floor and is doing very good! The nurses in ICU were great, but on the 7th floor where my mom is now the nurses are lacking every way imaginable! When this is all said and done I will never take my mother or any family member to this hospital again. I have lost complete faith in this hospital for several reasons I haven't even listed from emerg care to in-patient care. This has also solidified my debate on whether or not to move back to Kamloops from Vancouver. I will never live in Kamloops but will look to Kelowna instead.

Tim G

My mom has been in here for just over 3 wèeks, and each time I see her the staff are very attentive and kind. My Dad agrees and he is there all day, every day with her. Glad shes there rather than Royal Columbian or especially Ridge Meadows

As much as I appreciate and respect professionals in the medical industry, the Royal Inland Hospital has provided some of the most disjointed communication and service I've experienced. More than once I've had to deal with miscommunications between staff that has led to less than ideal discharge of patients. My friend just walked from the hospital to sahali with no shoe's because they didn't call the contact we left with them for transportation. Just disappointed.

My brother was admitted Aug/19 and released & there was NEVER a discharge report filed!! HOW CAN THAT BE? I live in Saskatchewan and here it is LAW that a discharge report be completed. How on earth in this day does a hospital get away with that? Saskatchewan hospital has asked repeatedly for report--so they KNOW WHAT WAS DONE, but to no avail. Also during my brothers stay he told me he was thrown around by staff. My brother is a quiet, soft spoken man, for him to mention tells me it was serious. I give this hospital a ZERO rating--the 1 Star is so I can post. Information is crucial for any health system to be successful, and what would be a reason for a hospital to not want a paper trail............hmmmm

Place is dirty and has an over all sense of the heebie jeebies. Also you’ll wait for hours in the ER. You’d think after a couple years they’d learn how to speed up the process. Also why is pay parking a thing at a hospital??

I have been admitted to this hospital on many occasions over the last 15 years once life threatening. I agree the hospital is a busy place. Everyone everywhere is over worked and under paid. That said all of the staff I have ever dealt with have been kind, caring and very professional. If not for the care I have received there I would not be alive today. The staff is not there to hand out lollipops and kiss boo boos they are there when we need help and do there upmost to do everything possible to help with your issues. I for 1 would not hesitate going to this hospital if I needed urgent care. Thank you all nothing but good wishes going forward. ????????????

Terrible government health care. Return this industry to the free market where it belongs. Let go of ICBC while you're at it.

James Grega

The quality of service was disgusting! They should be imbarased..... I came in with a broken finger that was also covered in lacerations and they didn't clean my wounds just stuck on a stint and some bandages and sent me on my way.... because of there lack of care my finger got severely infected and needed further treatment.... when I called and made them aware of the situation they where rude and arrogant to me belittled me over the phone... all they did to rectify the complaint was to send me to a call center where I could only leave a message about my complaint...

Worst Hospital in British Columbia. Went in for pre- surgical screening, it took 4 hours and never got to see the anesteseologist. Better go to Kelowna next time. Also no parking. 0 stars.

Rod Shellard

Doctor did not care to review my file. He said he was too busy. Pretty scary considering I had open heart surgery a year prior to this visit. To bad they are in the business of prejudging patients before reviewing their recent history. I have no need for that treatment, therefore I think I shall not return and take my chances with death. Thank you very much RIH. Your a joke.

My father was diagnosed with cancer in May 2019. He had to have chemo every 2.5 weeks for a duration of 7 days per cycle. I would take him in for his 3 pm appointments and of the more than 100+ visits we only had to wait past 3 pm twice. When they say a 3 pm appointment they mean 3 pm. This was terrific as there was no excessive waiting like in other doctors offices. The staff were all terrific and treated him tremendously. I can't thank them enough. Sadly my father passed away in October 2020

Very friendly and helpful staff. Came in because I hurt my leg and they helped me by pushing me around in a chair and talking to me and I mean it took a long time but for how busy it is there they did a great job...id like to say I'll be back soon but I hope not lol

In June I had day surgery at this hospital. The post op care I received was really unacceptable and ended up adding a lot of time onto my recovery. When I was taken into the post op room I asked for additional pain medication because my pain was severe and not controlled. It took almost an hour to receive pain medication and it did almost nothing to relieve my pain. I was discharged from the hospital despite having nausea and vomiting and being unable to pass urine. The bed side manner was really un compassionate and I felt like my pain was being downplayed the entire time. When my husband picked me up it was evident that I was not ready to go home. He demanded to speak with the nurse who was caring for me and she completely dismissed his concerns. I ended up back in the hospital just 6 hours later with an impacted bladder and had to have a catheter put in. The nurse in emerge did not give me appropriate help with my mobility and I was not helped to sit up during the procedure despite having just had abdominal surgery and being in severe pain. I was sobbing the entire time and the nurse seemed irritated and bothered my me. After she was done she just left me without saying anything, I had to ask the doctor in charge myself if I was allowed to go, and I was left to walk out to triage instead of being taken out in a wheel chair like necessary. Very un professional and disappointing care

Hospital admin is not great along with the Healthcare system in BC but... the staff at RIH are amazing local people who give it there best every day even though they are faced with drug users, anti society and just all around less than stellar people. There may be a few bad apples (Glenn A) but overall the majority really care about their patients. Thank you so much.

I want to tell the public keep very close to your elderly parents when admitting to RIH The Nurses in emergency were Bloody aweful to say the least,My Mom 91yrs old couldn't talk or speak and couldn't open her eyes and had enormous difficulty swallowing and breathing it was her final days at RIH and the beligerant nurse who attended to mom was aweful,I would say she had the ugliest attitude I've seen I awhile but there were a few at that hospital....The nurse in Emergency was Doing a intenslely aggressive Sternum Rub & Yelling at mom to wake up!Myself and the EMS person were shaking our heads..I said I've seen sternum rubs before never that aggressive to the point of abuse to an elder! Then a few Days later(MOM'S LAST NITE ALIVE)Another very inexcusable experience with yet another nurse,I'll never forget,She came in to the room and I was laying beside my mom and I asked a question about my mom's oxygen and she said were speeding up the PROSESS of her death...I said WHAT?she said I don't have time to talk to you now and walked away...I later asked the Dr. and he said your mom's dying....all body functions are shutting down....So I layed with mom all nite...the same nurse came in and was shinning a flashlight in my eyes when tring to sleep and I said do you have to do that? she said I have to check her every Hour!15 minutes later she came in and did it again....I said that was a fast hour!she said I'm going on my break now ( she absolutely did that on purpose....Other nurses came in later and I asked them NOT to have this horrible nurse come in again, and if they could be our nurse? They said we'll ask her to switch? later that nite I heard the Beligerant nurse yelling at them ...shes our nurse....on and on....The next morning my Mom Dyed in my arms!A week later I complained to RIH and was told a e-mail would be sent to the Shift co-ordinator and call me....It never happened!Thats only thing I can think of about RIH since mom dyed......I'm moving away from Kaloops Specificall because of the aweful experiences Mom and I had There,I would Never want to grow old here in Kamloops and be treated like that when elderly,There is ) accountability,The nurses and managers are sicker than the patients!Good Luck Kamloops! update july10/16 I was at rih 6 times in emergency and kept getting sent home with extreme stoache pain 2 times by ambulance and finally I gave up on rih the dr even said to me I don't want to talk about your stomache....I finally went to salmon arm walkin clinic got a referral to a sugeon there and he had a ultra sound done on me and I had a 9mm tear in my abdominal wall for 11 months the drs at rih are a joke....now I'm going to Vernon to see a specialist for my vertigo cause I cant even get in to see the one office here for all of Kamloops,i don't know why I'm even paying for msp?i'm leaving this province would nt wanna grow old here it would be aweful no care...good riddens..update dec2/16 I'm still in this discusting city and got sick with a blood disorder and again told rih I had this disorder tried to get blood tests looked at,the idiot nurse said oh we dot test for low immunity in blood unless they know specifically what to look for....what a joke there a so called hospital she ordered a ecg scan sent me for basic blood test and waited 2 hrs after 3 people jumped the cue I left...media here I come.....this hospitals ridiculous especially when nurses are making decisions for drs tests....wow this couldn't get any worse...update feb27 2017...they must have got the message, nurses and drs were awesome there now totally new staff, they treated me with severe chest pain....and were outstanding...

Colin Forster

Parking and Hospital layout is atrocious. Wonder how many lives have been lost just trying to find the front door. I felt bad taking a physicians parking spot but I'm not making someone in a wheelchair try to wheel around the maze that is Kamloops Hospital + 30 unmarked buildings in the area.

Healthcare system in this city is a joke. Doctors here are completely useless! If you want real healthcare go to Ontario...doctors know what they're doing.

Darren McArthur

Came in with back injury unable to walk. So they make me walk and I collapse to the ground twice. They do not provide any walking aids for this. The doctors would say they would be back in 5 minutes and then stood 15 feet away from me talking till the end of his shift and never returned. Second doctor told me I would be released then told the nurses to admit me. The complete lack of communication is absolutely disgusting. Also got the privilege of over hearing doctors making fun of patients. Absolutely disgusted with this place.

Angela Jurgensen

If you are indigenous, don't have your baby there. They will take your baby in less than two hours for no reason, even if you live in a nice and comfortable two bedroom apartment, even if you are medicated because of your C-section, even if you have family and the baby's dad ready to take care of the baby for you. The doctors have crystal balls and will contact the authorities as soon as your baby is breathing while indigenous.

ashley westen

While I have the utmost respect for the staff of RIH, the new parkade is bogus. When you have to drive thru town ( poor planning ) 3 times just to find a parking spot.. People do not go to the hospital because they are healthy, to those who are unaware makes pain and illness worse. To many times, this has happened to me and so many others. What's the point of a new parkade when all it does is cause more problems?

Tanner Bishop

Amazing hospital and incredible staff on Pediatrics . You have my deepest respect ❤️

Parking is a nightmare needs improvement immediately!

I've have a underlying health condition that I have gone in and tried to treat FIVE times... it's taken FIVE times for me to get answers. The doctor went back in my profile after me showing my frustration eith the situation...and he saw the problem with several past tests, they all came back for the same thing... i was just NEVER CALLED. Never called back SEVERAL times. Unacceptable. High probability that this health condition is what caused my misscarrige. If only they had helped me the FIRST time. Pretty disgusted with the lack of professionalism here at Royal SHITland Hospital.

I have Crohns and take medicine that supresses my immune system. I went to Royal Inland emergency for serious pain in my midsection. This was a follow up as i had seen a doctor in Salmon Arm 3 weeks earlier and he said my spleen was enlarged. The doctor said i should get checked again if my pain was not subsiding. The triage nurse...if they really are nurses...put me in a waiting room with alot of people that were suffering from colds and flu. After 5 hrs i left as i couldnt sit in there hard chairs anymore with the pain i was in. Very unprofessional. Avoid this hospital!!

Ace

This is probably the worst hospital in all of BC you wait for an average of 3 hours every time you have to Go in. There is never any staff and by the time you actually sit down in a bed it’s another hour wait to still see the doctor meanwhile there is about four doctors standing around talking and laughing by the computer station. Doesn’t seem to me like they are working very hard to get people healthy again. Once the doctor finally decides to come and see you, if your not gushing blood from huge cuts or have obvious broken bones they don’t do anything to help. All the doctors don’t listen to what you have to say just say that your wrong and what wrong with you will just go away on it’s own or the fantastic diagnosis of it’s just a sprain take Advil or ibuprofen as if we as patients haven’t tried that already. They are quick to say you are fine even when you try and ask for a simple double check they never want to it’s not like we like spending time in emergency just to be told your fine when your not? They brush you off like your nothing. This hospital is a complete joke and every doctor that works in emergency doesn’t actually care about the paitents! Why do we pay so much for health Care to not even be able to get help when we need? I wish I could give this hosipital minus stars because it’s terrible.

K M

RIH is a reflection of the overall health care system collapse occuring right now. Expect services and treatment to continue to get worse here. Doctors and nurses are burned out and facing deplorable conditions that are downplayed by Interior Health and the BC government. People are starting to suffer and die and it won't end until real change is made. Start complaining where it counts.

Brian Atcheson

They fired staff that worked through the pandemic, and now this dumpster fire of a hospital is probably one of the worst in Canada. Adrian dix and bonnie henry should be fired immediately.

I was admitted with another patient as casualties of a car accident. I was taken care of and treated well during my stay. Only reason for the 4 stars was the food and the new nurse that couldn't get an IV start ????. I witnessed the nurses taking care of the other patients promptly and treated them with respect. Thanks RIH for helping me.

On Feb 29/20 I went to visit a friend of mine @ RIH . She is on 5 South in room 512. My friend is 87 years old & is very frail. She is in a bed beside the window. All that is fine but "the air conditioning is ON". She is freezing. All the nurses do is bring her another heated flannel sheet!. My question is why on earth is the air conditioning on in Feb?!?

I just had surgery at RIH and all of the staff and and nurses were amazing, right from the beginning they were kind and efficient from the pre op group asking lots of questions, the fellow that inserted my Intervenous in prep for surgery before I knew it was in , to the surgery team for being so positive and kind when I entered the OR, and the post op team that cares for me so amazing that it makes me want to cry for their kindness, I suffer hot flashes and they seem to be worse from medications they, had cool cloths on my head and neck, and even went to the extent of finding a little fan to blow on me as I felt like I was melting from the inside out (my hero male nurse was so kind) The number of precautions they have to take constantly and questions they confirm over and over must make them feel like a broken record, but knowing they are there to keep me safe during all of the steps made my heart feel full I only remember a few names because of the medication and honestly my memory is terrible so a huge thank you to Dexter, M.C , Christine, Mary, and all of the 6 south staff nurses, cleaning, students, etc. Thank you all for your kindness Teresa R

This hospital is the worse I have ever been to. I am from Ukraine and we do not have as good equipment as here but there the doctor's care and precisely because of hard work conditions and lack of technology they have found great ways to improve medicine. I was shocked to see in a country like Canada with so much developments and a new building the doctors are so careless about people. Everyone in the waiting area was awfully attended. I had a broken knee. Six months I had to wait to hear from a doctor for a surgery. By the time they called I had already done it abroad. It is so sad how bad doctors are here. Scary to take a child here as well. A friend's baby got intoxicated and almost died.
