Very nice admission (Registration) staff, ECG technician, and volunteer but unfortunately my over 6 hours (and counting) of mostly waiting and overall experience with some of the medical and nursing staff at the Emergency zone 2 has been terrible. And guess what? This is coming from someone (me) who was a health educator for more than 20+ years. Thousands of my former students have graduated and been working as highly competent, caring and compassionate health professionals. Unfortunately many of the staff I encountered at Burnaby Emergency today did not seem they understand nor practise authentic client-centred care.
If there is an option for -10, I would give them -10 for sure. Emergency service is the worst service in the city. Had some serious health problems, they left me to wait for 6 hours there. Almost died. Uneducated staff that doesn't have answers on my questions. When I visited other doctors they were laughing and couldn't believe that doctors doesn't have elementary knowledge! Also, they almost killed my wife when she was giving birth to our son. Again, their mistake. Doctor FORGOT to put which pills he gave to her in her file. Just avoid it if you can.
I would give 10 stars if I could. Excellent service. Admitted to the emergency room after having painful kidney stones. Diagnosed within two hours gave me pain killers and scheduled for ultrasound. Excellent service. Really appreciate the professionalism of Canadian healthcare system. Thank you!

Whats the point of emergency when my friend had to wait for 45 minutes in emergency unit so that any doctor can give their very precious time to someone's life.
It is a very clean place with an adequate number of doctors for patients. According to a data-graph, posted on a wall near the ER entrance, stated that 88% of patients are discharged from the ER within 5 hours, not bad.
The nurses at Burnaby Hospital saved my life. They didn't brush over symptoms of mine that screamed something simple and instead ordered tests that they seemed to think were unnecessary just to be sure. Turns out I had a very life threatening diagnosis, and had they not taken the time I would have died.

Recently, I have waited for a doctor appoint for almost 4 hours. Good thing the nurses and other staffs was friendly and professional.
I had some concerning questions while on the phone. I wasn’t done speaking when the receptionist hung up on me and she seemed rude. Do not recommend coming here as there are no polite staff. Many reviews talk bad about the staff. Go somewhere else. Unless you’re dying then come here otherwise I’d pass.
My grandma got admitted to the hospital and has had a stroke. She is scared of being alone and the nurses here don't seem to even care especially a specific one Jenie on the acute care for elder . When some family members tried to visit her , they called security on the family ..I wouldn't recommend this place
Went in to Burnaby emergency the other day and the triage nurse was rude and had no compassion for came in under stressful circumstances. In fairness the women who took my blood and ecg were ok but had to be sent back to the waiting area for almost 4 hours without anyone checking on me. When I wanted to ask a question was met by the same triage nurse who ignored me for 5 mins and when I finally asked if I could ask a question I was met with a rude reply and made to wait to ask. Here’s a piece of advice for the olive skinned triage nurse. Get another job. You obviously aren’t cut out for this type of work. Your sheer lack of kindness is a reflection of that. After not seeing a doctor I finally left and went to eagle ridge where I was in a bed in 10 mins getting monitored and was dealt with kindness and compassion and had top notch care!
Ridiculous wait it has at least been 3 hours longer than what they've told me the operation would be finished. Still nothing, no updates, absolutely nothing, extremely bad attitude, I understand that there aren't enough doctors on hand but why does the nurses have to be so rude!!!
The vast differences in skills is mind boggling. Mom came in to the ER literally dying. The nurses was trying to get her to stand up but she literally can not. They wanted to take blood samples so she was poked 20 times on one arm. You can only take 2 attempts before another nurse could attempt. She has a port (for IV, medicine and blood work) surgically implanted but none of the nurses in the ER knew how to access it.
Doctors are worst in Emergency. They sit and talk and eat and don't help patients out. They made me wait for 2.5 hours and then came to help. Never coming back here.
Worst treatment of my life. Was told I was trying to get narcotic painkillers because I refused advil or Tylenol. (I hate the way any painkillers or anti-inflammatory meds make me feel) Said I didn't want any painkillers at all and just needed the antibiotics for the obvious severe softball sized infection in my face due to an abscessing tooth in my mouth. Was told they weren't a dentist and I should just go to a dentist. Told her no s*** Sherlock, I went to one and he sent me to the emergency room because dentists won't remove abscessed teeth until the infection is under control from the antibiotics which was my only goal in coming to the er at 10pm on a Tuesday in my work clothing. Was made to wait in the crowded awful emergency room waiting room for 3 hours while other people came in and were admitted before me after 3 hours at 1am now, on a work night, I couldn't take the pain anymore (was literally crying in pain abscessed teeth are excruciating) and went to st Paul's hospital downtown. Arrived at 130am Was given IV antibiotics within 10 min of arrival at the hospital and treated with compassion and kindness by the awesome triage and nurse before being promptly seen by the er doctor. I refused pain killers at first but the nurse could see my obvious discomfort from the softball sized infection in my face and I took whatever they gave me which instantly made me feel better. They gave me oral antibiotics to take home which thankfully took care of the infection so I was able to see a dentist a week later and have the infected tooth removed. Was discharged at 215am in no pain and on the mend. Less than an hour to do what Burnaby refused to do after 3 full hours because I had been judged to be a drug addict seeking a fix. Most horrible humans I've ever met in any context and supposed to be care givers. If negative or zero stars was an option is give them that. Boo boooooo to you Burnaby general emergency room....
Honestly, i was seen by 5-6 doctors before i came into Burnaby Hospital and its been nothing but one bad experience after the other. Today wipes away all of those experiences because of my interaction with Dr. Brian McGowan. Never have I encountered a doctor with more personality, understanding and professionalism!
Been here a couple times in the last 6 months (emergency and non emergency) and have been impressed every time. The hospital seems clean and well run, we've never had to wait long at all. The doctors and nurses are great. We have felt like they really cared and took good care of us. This is not the closest hospital to my house, but I choose to go the extra couple miles to get here.
Gave birth here and the nurses were wonderful. The only bad thing was I had to wait for a bed, had to kill time in the cafeteria and waiting room.

I’m writing this review to let Burnaby Hospital know that we are dissatisfied with the emergency Dr. On staff today who did not assess my partners hand with the injury and did not inspect the wounds and declined an X-ray. We understand we are in a pandemic but we had the right to these services and they were denied. We will be going to an X-ray tomorrow because we still feel that this services is needed.
I have been coming for years for routine outpatient services. This is always preceded by lab work a few days earlier. Capable and professional staff always. Thanks.
(Translated) Dr. Vu Ngoc Truong came to Canada as a Vietnamese refugee. He attended medical school, and became a respected and loved urologist, performing many surgeries throughout the Fraser Health area. . Dr. Vu Ngoc Truong (Montreal Gazette) . But after pleading guilty in the next month, about a fraud allegation involving overcharging, he will have a criminal bad point in the record. He could lose hospital privileges, and be suspended from practice by British Columbia's Physician. However, that is not a sure thing to happen, said Union Medical spokeswoman Susan Prins. Prins told the Vancouver Sun daily in the February 1, 2017 issue, "There are many factors that the Investigation Committee will need to consider, like in a criminal conviction. The Commission of Investigation of the Physician opens a record, and examines the nature of the violation, and finds out whether the circumstances have raised the capacity or suitability of an enrollee. ” The Physician will begin an investigation, after Mr. Zhang is sentenced. Dr. Vu Ngoc Truong pleaded guilty to fraudulent charges related to improper billing. It is believed that this urologist in Burnaby was the first doctor, calculated in about 20 years, to have a criminal prosecution involving improper billing. His allegations of fraud are due to work done by a special investigation unit, established by the British Colimbia Health Department in 2015, to investigate overcharging. Dr. Zhang operated on adults and children, at Burnaby General, Royal Columbia, and Eagle Ridge hospitals. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from University of British Colimbia in 1995, he received his medical degree in 2000, and then spent five years of professional training. He studied at the Alberta Institute of Urology in Edmonton, focusing on surgery (endoscopic) minimally invasive. He is considered a specialist in neurosurgical surgery, to eliminate prostate cancer and kidney cancer. According to the committee's reports, Mr. Zhang's errors in the charge amounted to about $ 1 million, from 2007 to 2012. However, according to his lawyer Terry Robertson, Dr. Zhang Shang the amount of a re-payment was not disclosed, but at a much lower level, which he believed was paid in full. Mr. Robertson said it was not clear whether a judge would sentence Mr. Zhang on March 3, the day he would plead guilty in the provincial court. Allegations of fraud involve a bill for a surgical procedure, Robertson said. The amount stated in the bill is about $ 20,000. In an interview, Mr. Robertson said, "Dr. Zhang is a highly respected surgeon, with extraordinary aptitude. He was very regretful, and would accept the punishment. Mr. Zhang's charges skyrocketed from less than $ 200,000 in 2007, to an average of $ 700,000 per year, in the years when he was tested for accounting. In 2013 and 2014, he bills a $ 808,000 medical Service Plan, but the latest annual reports show that the bill is $ 741,000. According to the audit records filed in court, Mr. Zhang improperly charged hospital visits, office procedures, and other services. All urologists interviewed (but not named) on Dr. Truong expressed frustration about his plight, especially because he had overcome so many difficulties, as a refugee, and a good surgeon. Health care fraud, mostly by doctors, has been estimated to be about $ 10 billion per year across Canada. A report was prepared for Canada's Law Committee in 2005, by Joan Brockman, Simon Fraser University's criminology professor, said. But governments and doctors have previously followed a non-criminal approach to medical care fraud.
Fu ck hospital
Thanks for making me come in for an appointment at 3am and then turning me away.. it was very convenient for me and my family to do this. I hope the people working there or their loved ones one day suffer this kind of horrible life affecting service when they are in need so they can see just how messed up this was and maybe become a little more compassionate about the people they serve in the future ..
Compassion should be a pre-requisite to become a triage nurse. Shame on whoever is doing the hiring. There is a culture of toxicity and unfortunately it’s the patients who suffer.
My mom was in the hospital with life threatening issues and the staff were very nice and took care of her very well for a couple of weeks until she was well enough to return home.
I couldn't be more thankful for this hospital and the service I have received there for the past 13 years that I lived in South Burnaby. My 2 kids were delivered there and service was exceptional and recently my daughter had an incident in which we had to call emergency services and they cared for my daughter a great deal. Thank you.
Worst experience ever in my whole life. My review is particular about the lady name : Jenny. She was so rude so unprofessional and unacceptable behavior. Such type of unprofessional and rude people should not be part of health care staff. After reading the reviews i see that this is not only with me most of the people have same issue but management is sleeping. Keep sleeping guys it's gud for your health. No work just money and enjoy.
Truly awful service. I'm not a BC resident and the staff were totally apathetic and incompetent. I wasn't correctly diagnosed by the triage nurse and was told to sit in some area where I waited for over an hour and no-one approached me to tried to check on me. I eventually had to go back to reception where I had to point out that the information in my form regarding diagnosis was wrong. Currently back sitting in the front desk waiting area two hours later.
after 2 hours of wait, doctor came and didn't even do basic check for infants health issues but went back to put face mask and said nothing to worry about it should go in 3 days of not come back, went to another clinic after 3 days and it was bacterial infection which needs medication
Though I see a psychiatrist at this hospital regularly for my mental health, I believe I need to leave this review regardless if I get a lot of backlash from it. When I had called for the hospital in certain fear that I was being followed, monitored or any other kind of paranoia, first red flag was that the police showed up ahead of the paramedics. The police handcuffed me and sent me on the ambulance where a paramedic just starred at me the whole ride to the hospital saying nothing on the matter as to why I called or what my concerns were. Once I arrived to the hospital and on triage, a nurse came up to me and I explained to her how I felt. She immediately dismissed what I said by saying, "There is nobody following you" and quickly turned heel and walked away. While I was still in handcuffs, even though I showed zero signs of aggression, I then had to wait in a very small room with only three chairs in it. After waiting almost an hour or two, a doctor came by and asked me the same thing as the nurse. After that doctor saw me another one did after him and then another and then another. Finally, the last doctor told me that I should just go home since there weren't many beds on the psych unit or any on the ER. Even though I told him how afraid I was or to anyone else they didn't seem to care one bit. No less than a week later, my thoughts had me so afraid that I attempted to hurt myself and was brought to the hospital a second time, again in cuffs. When I was on the ER, I overheard a man screaming at the top of his lungs, "HELP MOM! HELP GOD!" which was exactly what I shouted before I hurt myself at my home. A nurse came up to me and said, "That man sure is loud, huh?" as she giggled and turned to walk away as if he was put there to mock me. At the same time, because I hurt myself and was given an entire bottle of charcoal to drink, as soon as I started vomiting that same loud man imitated my vomiting too with the added giggles from the nurses. I don't know what that entire experience is about nor would anyone I ask even remotely delve on the topic further so all I can say is stay far away from the Emergency of Burnaby Hospital, because they WILL toy with you and play mind games with you and feign ignorance if you question it.

My friend came into the hospital to get a Rabies shot and who knew you couldn’t get one even though there is crazy swelling on your hand with a massive puncture wound!! Are you guys trying to kill people?
I’m not sure why everyone is complaining about this hospital. I have nothing, but great things to say about it! The staff are a treat! I met some incredibly nice and knowledgeable people. In times of covid, I feel like everyone needs to have a little more patience, love and compassion. Two months ago, my aunt was at the hospital with abdomen pain. She had an abdominal mass on the left side and needed a colonoscopy. Due to the one essential visitor rule, I was the only person allowed to visit. I actually think it is great that they had this rule in place because you don’t want multiple people coming in and possibly passing covid to patients and/or staff. The hospital had an ipad in which my aunt was able to facetime her friends and relatives. I felt the need to write this review because when I was in the waiting room and on the unit with my aunt. I have seen some very entitled people. It’s understandable that the wait time is long (this is NOT new?!)—go to a private hospital if you don’t want to wait! All hospitals are understaffed and over worked. There are many people who come into the hospital for minor and stupid things. Things that could easily be treated at home. On top of all this, we have covid. Of course, the hospital has to be extra cautious! Hospital policies has be to be in place whether people like it or not ????????♀️ Some people did not want to wear masks and some did not want to comply to the hospital visitor rules. We live in a society where rules apply. So follow it! Only together can we end this pandemic—get off your high horse, people! SENDING POSITIVE VIBES AND LOVE TO ALL THE STAFF AND FAMILIES ❤️
My fiancé and I came to this hospital on Jan 5th 2022 due to chest pain and shortness of breath. The response from the front nurse? Since you’ve been to the hospital previously for your chest you don’t need to be here and you can probably go home. Rest and sleep this will most likely solve your issue. Seriously!? For chest pain and shortness of breath? All of the nurses lack empathy, kindness and compassion at this hospital. If you want to be taken care of don’t come here.
Three questions you will be asking yourself when you get here. Is my parking expired, where are the doctors, when am i gonna leave
I was on call for a minor emergency surgery with this hospital. Not life threatening, but needed to be done sooner rather than later. They tried to slot me in on the first day the issue was determined, but unfortunately could not make room in the schedule, so we tried again for the next day. Got called in the next day for an evening surgery. Got in and two very kind nurses were waiting for me, working OT just to get me ready. They got me IV’d up easily enough and we were almost ready when I was sadly bumped for an unexpected more important surgery (some poor guy fractured his hip). They wheeled me to a new ward to wait a bit to see if I could still be slotted in that night, and while there a tech came along and took my blood samples. The tech did a great job, too. Hardly a mark left from it. I sat around for a couple hours playing on my phone and listening to the ward’s dramas around me, but eventually the night nurse advised me that I was not getting the surgery that night as they simply couldn’t fit me in anymore. She bandaged up my wrist with the IV in it so I could leave it in and have it ready for when I returned, and so I went home. The next morning they called and had a cancellation and asked me to come in. My referring docs may well have gone out of their way to get the surgery done, as they were the ones waiting to perform when I got there. Paperwork had to be redone, but everyone was so nice again it was just a pleasure to be around these nurses. The two that IV’d and prepped me during their OT the night before saw me step into the prep ward in the morning I was called in and were aghast that I hadn’t been operated on yet, and got right to ensuring I was being taken care of. The doctors and nurses in my operating room were all great for the short time I was awake around them. They got to work quickly, but were very kind to me while getting me all set. When I woke my surgeon stopped by to reassure me all went well and advise me on follow-up. The nurse monitoring me waking up was, again, just super friendly and happy to talk while she buzzed around her handful of patients. I was wheeled back to the prep ward where my original OT nurses were still at work and were happy to see I was all done. I relaxed there until my fiancé arrived. They gave him instructions and sent us on our way. Overall for being in the hospital I was having a pretty damn good time thanks to incredibly pleasant staff. Yes I waited hours between most of these things, but that’s honestly what I went in expecting, so I was ready for it. Plus they let me keep my phone during the longest waits, so I was able to distract myself from the IV’s existence through most of it. I didn’t have troubles with them finding where to put the needles, but everyone’s body is different, so maybe mine is easier to work with for finding veins. Also, there will always be newer staff that haven’t quite got it down to an art yet. I lucked out, but honestly, a few pokes won’t kill ya. And admittance staff are understandably a bit curt at times. They deal with all the crazy and stupid with none of the sedatives on hand to tone those things down when it gets out of hand, and they get hounded all day over the waits and stress of waiting family members. All hospital jobs are rough as hell.
I unfortunately had to come here due to a mental health breakdown 2 years ago, and I was treated terrible. There was one nurse who did not like me at all, and since then i’ve been terrified of going to the hospital for my mental health. A very kind nurse brought me two sandwiches after a panic attack, and then she left me to eat them. All of a sudden, another nurse storms in and takes one of my sandwiches. This wasn’t an issue, I figured I could only have one. What the issue was that she went outside and, to her coworkers, started laughing and making fun of my state. They made fun of me for looking scared and crying, and I felt mortified. This was following a suicide attempt, and it truly made me wish that I had died. How dare you treat someone like this, especially a young girl who was scared and lost? I will never forget that.
My experience of this hospital is bloody awful. I was given an MRSA testing kit to check if I had contracted this bug while a patient and after having witnessed the dirty urine and excrement covered toilets I was asked to use I understand why. People who are ill need a very high standard of cleanliness, it's not rocket science. Burnaby General clean up your act, and your toilets......
Terrible and slow service. I brought my mum with very high pressure and after 5,5 hours of feeling awful (do I need to mention that the high pressure leads to a stroke?), 4 nurses came to ask the same questions and one of them started googling just next to us. Insane ! After all that the Doctor came to ask the same questions and then sent us to xray! Meanwhile we were not allowed to drink even a glass of water. Being there for 5,5 hours we left . I am surprised how the doctors don`t care . Poor place .
I don't know it
Seriously. This is not a good hospital to begin with. Took my mother to see a doctor in the waiting area and then we waited for over four freakin' hours. For god's sake, get more doctors in the weekends instead of having one who is pathetic and useless.
in general my experience has been good regarding the care I have received with the exception of one arrogant little snot of an anesthetist who has left me with a permanent leg problem. Dr Warner and his stuff, especially Yvette, are superb.
Excellent care, Dr. Shephard v. attractive. Nurse was hilarious. Would have lump removed again. A+
Terrible Experience they should all be fired they are all rude and doesn't help you and ignores you like your fine when your in pain SMH
waiting for my result but the doctor is having an unnecessary chat with other patient, waiting another hour here.
Service is ok at BH but not on par with Providence Health Care. Alot of staff, including nurses and doctors at BH have attitude, wait times are long and they want you out fast. In contrast, St Paul's Hospital downtown has some of the most intelligent, thorough and compassionate doctors you'll ever meet. Lots of room for improvements at BH.
I was trying to get a check up because I was recently positive with covid-19 on the 11th of November but I was Anti symptomatic, and a female nurse at the front desk was snappy and had a sassy tone. On top of that a Male nurse that seemed to be attracted to her was yelling at me trying to get this acceptance from her for odd reasons (manipulation tatic). (Last time I checked you cant date or marry someone working in the same buisness) She was making it look like I never had covid-19 they made me show my rash that I fealt could be related to the sickness in front of the public and people watched and I'm sensitive about my body, literally 811 said they would be able to help me at this hospital yet all I got was this feeling of not knowing what to do and pressuring stress. My feelings have been hurt. I truly think there is some good people there but they need to show more sympathy at a time like this. I had to leave and take my business elsewhere because I couldn't handle the way these people treated me. If someone who works there reads this please train your nurses to show kindness because that's how they are supposed to be, sweet and kind!
Nurse Kim L. and her team is very professional, kind and compassionate. As a retired Physician wish her the best in her professional career. Please continue excellent work.
Three visits to ER (once personally and twice with family member)and we had great professional services each time
Long wait for everything
Good people here ,but horribly over-worked and under-staffed! Emergency has been renovated somewhat which is good!
This place is utter trash dont come here if u want medical help cause the nurses don't even know what they are doing just goto royal Columbian it's waaaay better
My experience there was horrible I been waiting 4 hours at emergency room. the don’t let me drink water until see a doctor .Probably they don’t consider my symptoms important the fact is I don’t trust anymore in Burnaby hospital . Do I have to be close to the death to see a Doctor ?
Went here for covid vaccines for my grandparents. there was a nice nurse who greeted us outside (the line up was long). she quickly saw my grandma was struggling to stand and ran away to bring back a wheelchair. she guided us to an area where there were chairs for me and my grandfather, and told us she will come get us when there is a spot for my grandma to come upstairs for the vaccine. it was an overwhelming experience as you can imagine, but i'm happy that someone was able to make accomodations for my grandparents. im just sad i never got her name.
The staff and care team on 3C and the emergency department did their best to look after my dad. I’m grateful.
Waited for 4.5 hours, one doctor on duty in emergency. Not happy. Finally just left.

Was first in line and had to wait 20+minutes to be admitted to an ER. They shouldnt call themselves Emergency.
Great knowledge staff, doctor, and nurses
I stepped in for an examination in the emergency department, i was suffering from what i didn't know at the time was 'Vertigo' and while the people at the front desk were professional and checked me in, the nurses at the front desk of the emergency room were less professional, i saw them laughing and making jokes while a patient was screaming and vomiting right next to me, i was ignored, which i didn't take any offense to, since i knew it was the emergency section and there were probably worse emergencies than mine, i just sat down on a chair with a drip needle in my arm, waiting till i slept, 5 hours later i woke up and asked where my doctor was, i was told she was JUST on her way, i was then feeling better and so i asked to leave, i was then told that i couldn't leave because that doctor only came once in 6 months, i stayed calm, but in my mind i was fuming, was she the only doctor in Canada? Is she Santa Claus? After an additional hour she came in( and she was pregnant, which softened my stand a bit, since as a man i don't know how hard it is to be with child) and we had a chat about my condition, she told me i had Vertigo(which i had learned earlier from the lady at the main front desk) and i had to get an audiogram somewhere in the city, so she wrote down some medication and another doctor i was supposed to see and sent me on my way, keep in mind the needle for the drip they had given me earlier was still in my arm, i had to go home and remove it by myself, i do understand a 3/5 is harsh, but the service i recieved while not terrible, was a bit mediocre ....might be a while since i come to this hospital again, and its a shame cause its in my city too...
Last evening my teen took a friend around 7 pm to BGH ER. The friend was experiencing painful cramps & reported blood in their urine. After check-in & initial exam (BP, heart rate, temp check) they waited...and waited...and waited. My teen checked with the desk about once/hour, re-stating the pain & discomfort of the friend. Each time the answer was there was (still 1 or 2) a patient ahead of the friend. The ER was apparently not overcrowded even for a Friday night. Finally the friend was too uncomfortable & signed themselves out of the ER, after waiting 5 hours in pain, wanting to go to Royal Columbian instead. Of course critical emergencies can come in & take precedence, but why isn't there an escalation procedure?
Admitted to emergency around 2am, staff were nice & pleasant, saw a doctor, did tests & waiting for a doctor to review results. By the way it’s 11:30am now & laying in the hallway, still waiting to see a doctor ... maybe I’ll surpass the 12 hour mark. Lots of friendly staff talking to each other but ... still laying here. I’m sure there’s a logical explanation for this. UPDATE: past 2pm & still waiting, at least no longer in hallway. Still no sign of the doctor, apparently only one doctor doing the “rounds”. Now past the 12 hour mark.
If you want to die early or getting worse, don’t hesitate to visit Burnaby Hospital emergency. Waiting forever!! We pay billions $$ in order to get better service, but we get Zero service. BS
Simply the worst hospital I have been in my life so far. No appreciation of the patients time. So far I have been there in the metarnity wing about 7/8 times my experience was not pleasant. A minimum wait time from you actual appointment time is 1:30 hr.
Would not recommend at all. If you're seriously hurt or on the brink of death, don't waste your time here cause by the time you get seen, you'll probably be dead anyways. The staff here did not seem educated at all. I witnessed a nurse be rude to a patient who spoke very little English. I ended up waiting for almost 4 hours to be seen and when I finally was seen, I only saw one actual doctor and maybe 3-4 nurses doing nothing. However I did see a nurse put on some lipstick while on the floor.. I did not wait for 4 hours so that I can sit here and watch you do your make up.. this was on Feb 12th.
Rude and arrogant stuff.
(Translated) Every doctor is very caring for the patients. Every window service person is very enthusiastic to arrange various inspections and appointments, and, like, GOOD (Original) 每位醫師都非常照顧病人,,各個窗口服務專人都很熱心安排各項檢查及預約,,,讚,GOOD
Take very long time to see a doctor that's ridiculous
My wife is 6 months pregnant and she went in for her monthly checkup, first they forgot to give her Rhogam shot, when we called to inquire about shot, receptionist just said hospital does not provide Rhogam shots and patients are require to arrange their own shot. We contact multiple pharmacies and labs, who simply said Doctors office is responsible for the Shots. My wife had previously got her Rhogam shots at Lionsgate Hospital. Very poor service and untrained staff. We called Maternity clinic again, Receptionist simply hang up.
Overall, I had a positive experience giving birth there. The doctors and nurses were competent and friendly. I only found the receptionist and one nurse to be rude and condescending. Parking isn't easy as they are still in the midst of renovations.
Went here for the birth of my third child. Staff were great and facility had everything that we needed.
I was at Burnaby General Hospital in October 2016 for major surgery and and overnight stay. My 5 star rating is for all of the hospital staff that I encountered during my short stay, from the pre-surgery nurse that prepared me for what was to come, the lab techs that took blood samples, the nurse that prepared me for my surgery on the day, the operating room nurses, recovery nurses, ward nurses, student nurses, medical students and my amazing doctors!! Doctor Lalani and his team were absolutely outstanding and my care could not have been better!! Thank you to all of you that worked so hard to care for me in my time of need! Your efforts are greatly appreciated!! :)
For my emergency, it definitely was a huge mistake going to Burnaby Hospital. Just my luck, I ended up in the hospital while the police had a absurdly loud detainee in custody, burning off some sort of drug, yelling and screaming at the top of her lungs for two hours now. Instead of respecting the peaceful patients, they let the crackhead carry on with her yelling and screaming, making it entirely unbearable to be within earshot of the raving lunatic. Staff was rude when asked if there was a quieter place to wait to be seen by specialists. Feel extremely bad for patients suffering from anxiety that had to endure this nightmare. Avoid Burnaby Hospital.
Honestly who gives a public hospital a 1 star review. Grow up, your not always going to get treated right away. We had a great experience (as great as an emergency room visit at 3am can be), the doctor was a very kind person, and there was no mistreatment anywhere along the way. People giving hospitals 1 star reviews haha, it's right up there with people who give parks Yelp reviews.
Needs more staff, there is no place to more
Completely and utterly horrible! I brought my 1month old son into Emerg to get him examined for potential UTI. The nurse attempted to put him on IV, but due to her absolute incompetence, inserted the needle incorrectly, and my son's arm started getting puffy !!! When I asked her is that supposed to happen, she didn't say anything but finally removed the IV. Absolutely appalling level of incompetence!!
Horrible experience ever in my life, I can’t believe it how rude the staff at hospital are. Wait time is even worse. I won’t ever come
I went last night cause of an accident i had and i was in crazy pain. Waited for 2 hours and when i did get in all they did was give me tylenol and ignored me when i asked for other help no one was even caring. Even despite of me having to use the bathroom once again ignored. One of the nurses on the xray room was pretty rude just because i grab by accident her gown, telling me to -do not touch her-... After several hours they gave me stronger pills (1 hydromorphine) and 2 pills to be exact and sent me home without even a discharge paper... I am really disappointed with this hospital, i've been before in other hospitals (here and back home México) and this is by far the WORST. ????
coming here based on past experiences I was not looking forward to it. I must say from start to end I was very satisfied with my treatment. it would have been higher score if it was my first experience.
I can not believe the bad reviews. Most people who complain are the one's abusing the ER and using it like a walk in for non emergency issues. This alone is the reason we have the wait times we do. So many people seem to have this need to be a priority when they are not. Today someone bitched out the housekeeper(me) just to vent . Apparently the wait was too long and when the i said that a team was currently working on someone who was in critical condition they still felt like the little sliver in their finger was a priority
Case worker and doctor have been essential to my mental health recovery. very grateful to this service.
The worst hospital over packed nurses are rude and unpleasant especially working in such a sensitive area such as health care would think you would be more caring would of gave 0 stars because of the so called NURSES and DOCTORS
Can I give ZERO STARS?!! the women checking me in was arguing with 3 other doctors and it was so awkward waiting for them to shut up and check me in. I was mistaken for another patient TWICE! As I was waiting I over herd a nurse lose a patient's chart.... another nurse was on her phone texting and did the bare minimum while other nurses were annoyed with their job. Another nurse YELLED at an elder patient... the list goes on and all of this happened within the hour of me being here... I can list more issues. People are actually in pain and don't want to hear sassy remarks or staff drama...
Recently, I was a patient at Burnaby Hospital for a gastroscopy. After the procedure, I was woken by a nurse telling me I was done. I was in horrendous pain. I have a very high pain tolerance, but this was way off the charts. The nurse kept telling me I had to walk to free the pain. Unfortunately, I was so doubled over with pain I simply couldn't walk. I tried. I was also running a fever. I did tell a nurse that I was freezing and sweating at the same time, she responded with 'yes you are sweating. The lack of care I received from the nurses was disgraceful. I was not offered any kind of pain relief or comfort. When my ride arrived, she realized it would be near impossible for me to walk to the elevator and out to her car. No one offered to get a wheelchair. My friend had to arrange for me to have a chair. The nurses were fully aware of the depth of pain I was in, and yet sadly were more concerned with closing their unit on time - 4:00. I was in such bad shape that I barely remember the ride home, or getting into my home. My husband took my temperature, it was 38c. The next morning it was still at 37.8. I'm sorry to say my respect for Burnaby Hospital has gone down to sub zero. Dorothy Biagioni
The receptionists of the maternity clinic are rude! I spoke to 2 of them and had the same bad experience. I gave up on following up with this clinic due to this horrible customer service.
The staffs are very kind and also the doctors are pretty much great. I just wish they were a little bit faster. The waiting hours are pretty long ????
Not a long line up, staff seem alright- no issues.
Hospital staff are great, there doing there best to treat patents. Thank you too all the staff
Met an accident while driving, Received good care by the staff. Staff and environment is good.
Waited for 4 hours, they also had a bleeding man waiting for more than me to be seen, they were calling the same person 3 times, in different occasions, instead of calling the next patient in the list they just keep going back inside, after the third time of calling the same patient, the nurse came out like 20-30 mins later to finally call a different name, it was supposedly taking really long because there was only one doctor, but it was extremely slow, the administration team was watching videos on their phones, and "ray of Sunshine" they have as a triage nurse was knitting and didn't seem to care we waited for so long, I also work, I had to leave, because I wouldn't have much time to sleep, I am blood in my nose and throat, now I have to try to go to another place to see if I matter enough to be seen. There wasn't even that many people there, I really feel for the elderly who had to wait longer than I, the night team seems to not care enough, I really hope they replace them, I understand when nurses are overworked, buy I'm pretty sure the blonde "ray of sunshine" who I talked to, just woke up from a nap before taking my info

Made my husband stay for 4 hours with no follow up...he already feels bad as is and sitting with others ill people for hours worsens it. if yall under staff just say that
Only 3 doctors were helping people in pain outside. We waited for 4 hours for a sprained ankled to be looked at.
I was in pain when I got to Burnaby hospital. The staff and nurses were very patient and kind with me. The resident doctor was really sweet and attentive.
I tore my acl completely on August 20th. I had torn my meniscus 3 times before and knew it was worse than that. The Dr's didn't even mri it. Instead they did an x-ray for broken bones and then asked me if there was anything else I wanted. When I told them it wasn't broken but probably torn they said they suspected that but still refused an mri. They handed me 5 ibuprofen and sent me home. Your ACL starts to dissolve when floating around fully torn and by the time I got an MRI and the results (over 2 months later) my ACL had dissolved to the point my surgeon would need to take 2 of my hamstring ligaments if I ever want an ACL in my left knee. Had they just mri'd it that night there's a chance the surgeon would've been able to fix it without taking out multiple hamstring ligaments. Not to mention how they were just pushing my knee harder when they saw it wasn't moving. If I was ever in the situation again I would genuinely not go to the hospital at all before I would go back to Burnaby general
Clean and nice staff
Worth experience having with Emergency Departments Zone 3 I have all employments not working they are with their cellphones I dont know why be paid for doing nothing This with experience I have When asking them question they have too much excuses due being business with cellphone
I took my friend who is suffering from flue and high fever
The emergency system is terrible.
The ER nurses were great taking care of my son... Terrific at explaining what would come next and why it was being done.
Had an MRI done at Burnaby General on July 29th at 05:45 a.m. The two ladies working in the MRI department were great! Very friendly, explained what was going to happen and made the experience pleasant. I got there a little ahead of schedule and had my MRI done shortly after the appointment was due to start which was nice. I asked a question about the MRI machine once it was done and the technician was more than happy to provide details on how it worked. This has been the best experience I've encountered with any type of MRI/X-ray requirement. Thanks!

They took care of my family. My two kids were born there. They've helped me, my mom, my brother, my wife, and sadly my father who recently just passed away there but was attended as best as they could. The nurses there care, and it shows.
The friendliest, and most caring nurses in any ER, this side of Canada. Why, the way these nurses work side by side with our doctors!? This entire hospital, runs just like another television, ER show. Including cleaning staff, as well...
Got an emergency? Go to VGH if you can. This place is terrible with regard to doctor availability.
I was treated very well there! Everyone was so kind!
Nobody cares about you at this hospital. We got lab papers for blood work to be done on my pregnant wife TWICE. Both times they were prescribed incorrectly. We called and complained to the receptionist and she blamed the lab for not reading the papers properly!!! My wife ended up going to our family doctor. We called the matternity department to refer us to another place as we couldn't trust them with their terrible services and they made her book an appointment. When she showed up for 13:00 appointment she was seen at 16:00!!! Just for her to be referred to another place. At this point we didn't care as we just wanted to be out of this hospital and never go back.
Doctors are good but triage and admitting should be more sympathetic. They don’t care what’s going on in the waiting room, even if person is dying they wouldn’t approach him/her to help. The waiting time is unacceptable, 6 hours for emergency room is ridiculous, that is not emergency that is regular walk in clinic.
I cant say enough great things about my experience here! I had to bring my 15 month old daughter in on Saturday morning after being advised to do so after visiting our Doctors Office. I was terrified and worried but when we got there they checked us in and took a look at my daughter right away. They moved us to a bed in Emergency and everyone was so fantastic! At one point I think there had to be 10 Doctors and Nurses working with us on my Daughter. There I am an emotional wreck trying to keep it together as they hook my daughter up to an IV, take blood and give her oxygen while I sit there with her in my arms with tears rolling down my face. They did such an amazing job and offered such great care to us both! At one point I think about 6 or 7 nurses asked me if I needed anything, from water to a sandwich to coffee all in a 10 minute time frame! My favorite nurse was Bree and she was amazing, amazing!! We were there for 12 hours before needing to be transferred to another hospital due to them not having a Peds unit and I'm so happy we got the care she needed, they were phenomenal! Thanks to everyone!
The Burnaby General Hospital Emergency Department needs some serious review of staff habits and procedures as well as deal with the bottlenecks and delays of internal service between the different departments in order to establish improved patient care in a timely fashion. Here are some of the essentials that need to take place before I ever visit the BGH Emergency Department again: 1. All Emergency care staff need to learn proper staff-patient interaction by being honest, polite, organized, and effective. Professionalism should be a high priority, which it currently is not! 2. The bottlenecks and areas of delay within BGH need to be established and improved immediately by doing proper time and motion studies as well as critical path analysis and taking action as soon as possible. 3. Periodic reviews need to take place to ensure personal and professional discipline in doing the right things are actually happening. If BGH were a business today it would be out of business tomorrow for the management and staff there are doing a lot of things that are counterproductive and inefficient. The problems really start with BGH management staff since they are to set the standards they and their staff under them are to follow, and right now this is very poor. To make the claim that BGH is underfunded by the government and that this is the cause for the long patient wait times (in my case over 6 hours for a routine scan that took less than 5 minutes) is ridiculous based on what I saw happening. Here are some of the things I saw: 1. Files went missing and staff were asking where the patient file was. 2. The same questions were asked by the emergency room staff over and over again as if one was to expect a different answer. 3. The police needed a form for a patient and the emergency room staff ran out of the form and could not make a copy from their computer (why?) 4. I asked what the cause of the delay was after my scan was completed and the answer was always the same. We are waiting for the doctor to review the scan. I asked can I be send home and after the results of the scan are completed I return and they said no. So BGH gets an F rating from me and the main problem is not the front line staff but management, who needs to set the bar much higher for everyone working at BGH and most certainly not continue doing "business as usual" for that is less than professional!!! Burnaby General Hospital is a "third world hospital" not because of lack of funding, but because many of the BGH staff simply do not care or care enough. Patients are routinely misdiagnosed and the wait times are pathetic. My nephew went in after his fall from a bike and the BGH medical staff diagnosed a hairline fracture in his ankle and gave him a boot to wear. The pain was so intense that his family took him to BC Children's Hospital where they diagnosed him with a double fracture causing misalignment in his leg requiring surgery. So BGH is a lousy hospital that cannot even diagnose an ankle fracture properly leaving patients with undue pain and suffering. My wife went to BGH Emergency with cardiac symptoms 3 times in 1 month, but because she was not having a heart attack was not seen by a cardiologist. It was not until she went to St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver that she was finally admitted and had proper tests and treatment done for her cardiomyopathy. Needless to say we will NEVER use Burnaby General Hospital again ... they should be closed down or placed under new management!!!
Terrible experience! My aunt was suffering from projectile vomiting and dizziness, She couldn’t even stand on her own. We went up to the receptionist, and the nurses were already acting rude. One of them had starring problems as if she judging us. We’ve arrived there at around 10:45pm and waited for almost 4 hours. I could tell that we were not the only people inpatient because there were 3 others who argued with the nurses about the wait. Finally at around 3am we were brought to ANOTHER waiting room where we waited for another hour! My aunt was shivering at this time since it was like this hospital didn’t have heaters, so a asked the nurse if we can have a blanket and she just turned her back at us and walked away. My mom had to go find another nurse to ask for a blanket and her response was “go get it in the corner.” After this experience I know I will not be returning here again. If you are in excruciating pain or on the verge of death, by the time a doctor sees you, you’d probably already be dead.
Parking is still free...
They have no idea what emergency means. No respect for your time and your health. Must question Canada Medical system.
Unfortunately it isn't possible to give a zero, but the staff here were incredibly rude. My boyfriend has been in a lot of pain over the past two weeks and the first time we came here, the doctors just sent us back home after mocking him and telling him that he was just paranoid after getting his vaccine. Two weeks later we came back due to his symptoms becoming severe and we were met up with a nurse who couldn't comply with the patient's needs. I tried to tell her my boyfriend's symptoms because she had asked what we were there for. Then she proceeded to cut me off and said to just say two words (which obviously isn't enough to explain about what and how he's feeling). I also tried to explain to her that my boyfriend couldn't speak because he felt like vomiting she kept insisting that I don't talk and force him to try and talk instead, so my boyfriend ended up having to struggle and go to the washroom right after their conversation. She also had this face of annoyance and disbelief that we hadn't gone to get medicine to treat him beforehand and told us just to get gravol. The person we met at the triage was nicer, but since the nurse we first met told me not talk for my boyfriend, I didn't say a word. And then she suddenly told me to speak for him because he couldn't talk. Since it took almost 4 hours for us to see a doctor the last time we came here, we just decided to leave and get medicine since we felt like they'd inquire us to go home, get some medicine, because there is nothing wrong. Unbelievable staff and service. I thought doctors and nurses were supoosed to help, not discourage patients and not even give them a chance to explain how they're feeling. Some staff may be good and professional there, but the staff we've met were so far the worst. Staff were busy talking and chatting. I also saw someone's computer up but they were looking at online clothe shops and not helping patients.
Was here a few years ago, it was ok. Recently though, Unorganized, nobody watches the patients properly, they just keep them medicated when they dont need to be. Some patients have to eat through tin foil and wrappers because they are unable to open their meals, none of the nurses assist (meanwhile they're just at the station sitting or talking to each other) Don't give you a lot of information (Wont repeat information if they have already told one family member, other hospitals dont do this) The cafeteria closes super early. The only good thing is it is easy to get there by bus.
never seen such worst hospital!! So minimum staff in emergency, idk how can they even call it emergency when the is less staff than walk in clinic.
I was in a car accident that resulted in a broken femur, I had my surgery done at Vancouver General, after five days they transferred me out to Burnaby General for recovery. In comparison to VGH this place is terrible. Four patients to a room, One of the people I was sharing the room with had some form of dementia and only spoke Russian, the other had some form of infectious skin condition and as such all other patients were barred from using the toilet in our room. Being five days into recovery with a broken femur I couldn't really walk so was I expected to just get up walk to the public toilets in the foyer with broken leg? The guy with the skin condition would get up from his bed constantly which I guess was deemed a risk? Eventually they put an alarm on his bed that would sound whenever he got up. The nurses also didn't care for the Russian lady at all, instead of seeing if a translator was available they just shuffled her back into bed whenever she got up. She was constantly speaking Russian the entire time I was there, all night she mumbled to herself and would get very distraught and try to leave. The nurses would just bring her back to the room. This was incredibly stressful as I couldn't sleep at all between the guys bed alarm sounding every half hour and her constant speech. This leads into the next problem, THEY FORGOT TO FEED ME. Every day I'd be given a sheet asking what I'd like for my meals the next day. Each time they'd forget to bring me a meal. I'd call for a nurse who would then act shocked that I hadn't been fed, then she'd tell me she'll fix it. Then return an hour later saying all the meals had been taken and they'd give me an extra yogurt/pudding/fruit with lunch. Lunch would roll around and again I'd get nothing. It happened two days in a row (Six meals) I ended up having to call my family to bring me some food. This was absolutely ludicrous, how can you forget to feed your patients? The atrocious conduct of the nurses and doctor that was assigned to me also blew me away. Compassion fatigue is an understandable problem in hospitals, but that's not a justification to treat your patients poorly. I was in constant pain from the broken femur and hydromorphone was just barely taking the edge off. Coupled with the fact that I could barely sleep and wasn't being fed I was very anxious and uncomfortable. I take ativan occasionally for panic attacks and asked if I could have some so that I could just try to sleep and not think for a while. Instead of consulting with the doctor, the nurse just said "It's not on your prescription history" When I was transferred from VGH they gave me a bunch of paperwork including a list of all the medications they'd prescribed and dosaged. I tried to show the nurse these papers and she just sighed and walked away without looking. I started having a full blown panic attack an hour later, I asked again and was told no a second time for the same reason "There's no proof you've been prescribed them before." Again refusing to look at the paperwork I had with me. I once again had to call my family to grab my prescription from home. Upon showing up with my meds the nurses tried to intervene and tell my mother that I'm not allowed to have them which may be flat out illegal? The RX has my name and information on it, and is proof that I am prescribed them. They then told me that the "(assigned)Doctor didn't approve this medication for you" Of course she didn't because as far as I'm aware they never actually asked her about it, instead choosing to ignore my requests for no reason at all. I wish I could go back in time and refuse the transfer to Burnaby General though I don't know if refusal would even be an option. In closing: Burnaby General is terrible, while there were some good staff the majority were compassionless zombies, the wheelchairs and crutches were dilapidated, and the facilities themselves are antiquated, ugly and prisonlike. If it is an option I implore you to go to literally any other hospital.
I would like to have given more stars to this location however I arrived late on a Friday evening and after waiting about 20 mins just to get administrated and get a bracelet I decided this was not the place to wait. The processing process was slow and seemed unorganized the staff seemed upset at the facility’s lack of function buttons not working dirty facility and a little outdated. I hope this hospital can get some upgrades and boost the staff morale. Good luck
Terrible service. Useless and a waste of time at the ER.
Super slow. If you’re not dying, they don’t care. You’re just waiting long long long time…
Unless you love wasting time to be seated and waited for over an hour EVERY SINGLE TIME, don’t ever go to the maternity clinic. I was always upset to be there waiting although I arrived on time. Receptionist isn’t nice, long hours waiting, random doctors to see every time, and too long checkup which was nothing special at all.. Please ask your family doctor to send you to other locations.
Great local service. Love the OR staff.
Showers are only cold water, mold everwhere, private rooms are very old, parking is expensive $4.50 a hour, slow doctors waiting a few hours to be seen.
Thanks to the 2 ladies at the main entrance who helped me drop off a cell phone so I can call my Mom. Thanks again for your help this evening. Stay safe.
Long time waiting? I got better just because I waited.
During the night shift, the nurses in emergency department hold very terrible attitude toward patients. Part of the nurses gave patients personal and emotional judgement before the doctor's attendance. Some of the nurses also show a very poor practical medical experience. Hospital needs to fix the problems like this, all the patients are supposed to be treated in a friendly, helpful, responsible, rigorous condition.
Baby’s Best Chance? Burnaby Hospital. We had a fantastic experience during the birth of our baby last week after being diverted from Surrey. There were many nurses attending to us, and friendly, knowledgeable doctors too. We had a lot of space, privacy when wanted, and continuous health checks that were so very reassuring. During the birth everyone was cheering us on. The room was filled with energy, including from 3 student doctors and nurses. The nurses were thorough and demonstrated tons of baby care tips along the way once baby was born. Parking and navigating the hospital was also a breeze. Everyone seemed very on top of things, and energetic at all hours of the night. Meals were tasty too! I appreciated how thorough everyone was.
I had a bad experience with emergency at burnaby hospital. Some of the staff were very rude. The receptionist after I said I have pain and I can’t wait more, got my urine test and threw it in the garbage and said you can leave now!!! They more fit working in the boxing rink instead of hospital!!! I left hospital with a bad pain , full of worriness and bad feeling!!!!
I understand everybody has different experiences, but both times I have been at the hospital, it was fairly fast and a positive experience. Both times I was super fortunate to see Dr. Vladimir Krajina, his knowledge and passion for his work shows how outstanding he is. His team at the Fast Track was very professional and helpful. If I knew their names, I would list them for their great job. Blood work in the lab, x-ray, and nurses.... Wish I could have you as my family doctor! Thank you!
Horrible place! Emergency staff is Horrible, unorganized, they keep chatting and having fun, they're only missing coffee and cookies.
Longest wait time ever
Burnaby Hospital is very good, especially the emergency department has compassionate and kind nurses. One of these kind nurses is named Monica. She is very kind, compassionate and responsible
Worst experience! Rude and non caring staff. Had to wait 5 hours for emergency.
The first time I came here I had a severe stomach pain and I had to wait for more than 5 hours to see a doctor. The quality of the doctor’s help was very very poor. Next time, I came with the shortness of breath I was waiting for more than 4 hours . The hospital had blood on the floor and masks thrown on the floor... the irony is that the first time and second time I came here, I never saw anyone cleaning the ER area... scary area that makes hope for help to die
Absolutely horrible. Do not understand how hospital hires such incompetent staff. From beginning reception was incredibly rude, to the point of only replying in snarky, snobby replies. Wait time was very long as expected. Now the best part, came to hospital for suspected sprained ankle. Some young doctor scanned X-ray and announced that “it’ll be fine, just an age related injury, make sure you start stretching it and try to get back to using it ASAP”. Week later, ankle looks WAY worse. Go to ankle injury specialist, he notices doctor didn’t order MRI which from what he explained is required with such injury. Go to MRI. FOUR fully torn ligaments (require surgery) and and an ankle fracture. Special kind of carelessness and plain old stupidity at Burnaby hospital. Want to get a misdiagnose and instructions for how to make it worse, you’ve come to the right place.
I have had wildly different experiences here. On one hand I have had doctors in the ER refuse to listen about my long-standing medical issues while trying to give me medications I have repeatedly told them I'm allergic to. On the other hand I've experienced swift and caring treatment for my broken ankle. If given a choice between this hospital I would probably choose VGH or even St Paul's, but if you get the right staff BPH can be a very good hospital as well.
After seeing some of the less than adequate reviews of this hospital, I think I have to update the public image on Burnaby Hospital now. I had my right hip total replacement done at Burnaby Hospital on April 9, 2018, by a wonderful orthopedic surgeon, Dr. T. Kostamo, and then had my left one done in less than 2 months, on May 28, 2018. Why I don't have to have a painfully long wait for the two major surgeries done, is because I was in advanced stage of osteoarthritis. There is no doubt that total hip replacements need to be done as soon as possible. The doctor and the hospital helped me to speed up the process by filling me in, where there was a cancellation. In both times, I have found the hospital staff, nurses, post-surgery care team and of course my surgeon to be excellent in their care for their patients. From the pre-surgery preparation, education material, training classes to post-surgery physiotherapy treatments, I see that these people are working in a very happy, co-operative work atmosphere, hence they can be focused on the well being of the patients. Why I give only 4 stars is only because the hospital is old, and is in great need for expansion and modernization. I just wish the provincial government would not delay in it's promise of giving more funds on it's needed expansion. I know that the previous image of this hospital is not ideal, but in recent years, there must have been some major change in the management, so that as far as my latest experience is concerned, I have found all the staff there work with care and attention to the needs of the patients, as it should be the case. Unfortunately, from what others told me, this does not happen in every hospital! ;o( The next thing I will do, is to write my appreciation letter to the Director of Surgical Services of Burnaby Hospital, to give him my positive feedback and hope that he will keep up the good work and fight for an expansion and modernization of the hospital!!
This hospital honestly deserves a -5 star. I am here at the emergency right now and we have been waiting for 1 hour for a doctor or even a nurse to see us. I have been to emergencies in North Van and Langley, wait time was no more than 20 mins. These people are truly heartless. They are watching behind the glass windows patients that are in excruciating pain but they stare at them as if they are insignificant. Emergencies are supposed to give instant service. People are either feeling extremely pain or feeling very bad for them to get up and come to the hospital. Absolutely garbage service.
Terrible emergency experience. If you a have real urgent case, do not bother going to this hospital and try somewhere farther.
Very slow, not friendly and long wait times. I came in with my boyfriend and ended up leaving after 2.5 hours as there were still 2 people infront of us. The nurse was rough and really hurt my boyfriend when taking blood from him. I'm not sure why this hospital is so hostile and slow when the ER department is an "emergency" department. Will be driving out of our way to St Paul's, as Ive only had good experiences with the ER departments. Doctors are experienced, empathedic and professional. Would give zero stars if there were an option. We didn't even have any doctoe see him!
I was born here. ☺
Terrible administration. They only have one surgery row. That means long time waiting. My wife is waiting 5 days to have surgery. They always say " There are C section emergency!". How is possible? LACK OF ADMINISTRATION. IT IS A MESS????
To say this hospitals is unsafe is an understatement. Last Saturday I was at the ER, and at no time while being assessed by the triage nurse was I screened for COVID-19 (despite the fact that I was there with chest pain.) Once I was called in to see a doctor, I was seated in chairs in section 'C' - which were not socially distanced. I also sat waiting to be seen for 2.5 hours. Turns out a nurse forgot to mark my chart, as well as the chart of another patient, to be seen by the ER physician. This while a potential COVID-19 patient was in a room approximately 12 feet away. To make matters worse, the bathroom was an unclean, filthy, disgusting mess and I saw no one do cleaning of any kind in the 3 hours I spent there. At one point, a nurse by the name of John came into the ER without wearing a mask. When I was finally seen, I wasn't seen by the actual ER doctor but was instead seen by a student doctor. He said my pain was "likely" muscle-related, did no testing to make sure it wasn't my heart that was the issue, gave me pain medication and sent me on my way. Meanwhile, I still have the same pain one week later. However, given the lack of social distancing, nurse not wearing proper PPE, and overall uncleanliness of the ER ward, the last place I would go back to is there. I shared what happened on social media, and Fraser Health reached out to me asking that I e-mail them my concerns. Since then, they've been radio silent. No follow-up, no contact with me as to how they plan to address said concerns... nothing whatsoever. They'd rather sweep things under the rug and pretend problems don't exist, when it's well-documented that Fraser Health has longstanding issues. Earlier this week, another FH-operated hospital, Royal Columbian, was in the news, as staff weren't wearing masks there either - so this obviously isn't a one-off issue. There is also a physician who works out of Burnaby General Hospital who communicates with third parties and strangers on the internet about former patients (this particular physician admitted to doing this as he provided the College of Physicians and Surgeons with copies of his communication with said third party, which I have seen and now have copies of myself.) So, don't go into this hospital thinking they value patient privacy - because they don't. Burnaby General, and Fraser Health overall, can clearly not be trusted.
Worst experience ever would never recommend that hospital to anyone ever my dr was the worst dr don't know how she became a Dr. Dr Rowell Wong I think her name is.
worst staff and slow,i am 6h in waiting room with badly pain but they not care
Spent hours here but never got seen. Staff unable to process anything. No sense of urgency. Better to use WebMD and fix yourself
Not enough staffs but all of them have very friendly and nice service.
I was admitted here for surgery in 2009 and 2013. Although I waited a while in the ER in both visits. I was taken care of by the staff from the ER and the OR as well as the Maternity Room. I remember bef they put me out the nurse said we'll take care of you and they did. I was happy about the service I have received. The ER is busy that's the government's fault for not having enough staff. Kudos to the staff of Burnaby Hospital. You guys are doing a great job. Thanks for taking care of me while I was inpatient.
To be honestly, I don't want to rate it so low at my first time there. The first time went there with family doctor's letter, everything is good, and help me arrange the come back appointment. But this time, they kept me endless waiting. At the window in the front, three staffs ignored me unless I walked into the door raise their attention. After unwilling registration, I kept waiting until they called me. And they just kept me wait and wait. No even ask me how am I feeling and so on. Pretending I'm not there. Only the long time waiting really frustrated especially when you see so many staffs just chatting around. Luckily, doctors there are really nice.
This review is for the maternity clinic. Doesn't even deserve the single star.
Avoid this hospital at any cost. They have no time sense and have total mismanagement. I don't know this is because of the holiday season or its ilways like this. We are waiting for a general check up to be done since 7 hours! Can you imagine! Still continues... Frustrating experience.
Very happy with the service I received here. I had a skin infection in my arm and I was pregnant, I expected to wait for over an hour in the emergency but they treated me in 20 minutes.
The best hospital in the world.Good service also 4c is the best place.Dr bell best doctor
My wife gave birth here. The staff all seemed competent. Generally, people were very-to-exceptionally helpful and friendly. A few were less than stellar. Overall, we were happy with the hospital.
Staff was super friendly, Wait time wasn’t too long, but that always can change from how busy they are. I had a head injury so they gave me a full ct scan and fixed my broken nose before sending me on my way. On a holiday, staff is still working hard and giving their time to their patients. I applaud them for the outstanding work they are doing.
they kept me and my girlfriend who needs a emergency stitches waiting 3 hours and the nurse was having an unimaginable terrible service attitude
I had my knee surgery here and everyone took care of me really well. Caring and attentive staff.
RIght before Christmas I fell and sliced my knee open and sprained my ankle. My boyfriend took me to Burnaby Hospital to see if I had broken my ankle, and for stitches. After four hours we gave up, as they were letting in less injured people than me, even though by that point I was desperate for a new bandage as mine was leaking onto the floor. We gave up and headed for home. I did my own stitches at home (most likely a better job) and went to the clinic and xray clinic the next day which took an entire one hour of time. It's sad, as I do pay my taxes but can't even get a stupid bandage at Burnaby Hospital or a quick check to say hey you didn't break any bones.
I had a tonsillectomy here in August 2018, and I appreciated the care I received from the staff in Surgical Daycare and the Recovery Room. When my admitting nurse put my IV in, I went into shock, had a small seizure, and passed out. My mother, who was with me, said the staff in Surgical Daycare were very quick to act and had me awake and feeling better within minutes. My surgeon, Dr. Imran Samad, took the time to call my mother after my procedure to let her know how everything went and where she could wait for me. All in all, I received good care here on this day.
I don't know where to start. I went for severe hyperemesis due to pregnancy multiple times and every staff over there showed true compassion and concern and kindness. Words can't describe how thankful I am. I was so down and sick and got admitted in the maternity unit and the nurses were super amazing and they kept joking with me to make me laugh and encourage me that its gonna be great and they can't wait to see me when I deliver my baby in February 2021. I am absolutely speechless as a respirstory therapist, this is exactly how I treat my own patients and make them feel like home. I could give 20 stars if possible. Such a clean hoslital and friendly staff from any department including housekeeping. Would totally recommend instead of trashy Royal Columbian hospital.
slow
This place is a joke. Can't believe our tax dollars pay for this. It should be shut down. Whoever manages it should be fired along with alot of the staff. My mom was taken in under extreme pain and they gave her one dose of pain medication in about 20 hours. Then when I come to pick her up, right as we are about to leave the nurse says "oh by the way you have pneumonia. It could kill you at anytime. But the doctor can't see you til tomorrow." Seriously pathetic service and treatment. Wish I could have told them how I really feel but they would have called the cops on me!
Next time you got awfully sick, just walk it off. Don’t bother going to the ER.
I am writing this review in behalf of my 93 year old father who recently got confined for almost 4 weeks at Burnaby Hospital. The 270's wing (2nd floor) staff from doctors, nurses, therapists and attendants are all very professional, caring, hardworking, polite and showed real concern to health and welfare of patients. Please keep up your excellent medical service work!!! Thanks a lot.
I prefer SMH, Surrey Memorial
Best help for children outside of children's hospital I've ever gotten for my child. Thank you doctors and nurses
I was very impressed. I went in for what will thought might have been a broken ankle. Other than the triage nurse that seemed clueless they were all so amazing and attentive. From the nurses, the doctor and even the nurse who wheeled me out to my car as I drove myself there. I can't say enough good things about my short stay. I was in and out in under an hour and a half. Excellent service by the staff all the way around.
A very poor experience. Waited 3 hours to get into emergency to be assessed by a doctor finally and still had to wait another 2 hours to see the doctor. The nurses and staff kept on checking the blood pressure and thermometer thrice in that span and that was not even the problem. Parking is way too much specially when they make you wait for 5 hours or more. Do not go if you are suffering and need attention.
I'm never having another surgery there again if I can help it. I threw up too many times, and the hospital staff didn't give me anything for the neasua only after I threw up 4 times in a row I even threw up ON myself and got blood on my gown and they didn't give me anything to change into or change my sheets I told them I was vegan/veg only and they served me meat so I couldn't eat anything They only gave me pain killers no antibiotics, they also didn't go over how to use them or anything just handed me the sheet. Nor did they go over any aftercare with me and just handed me a pamphlet. No one helped me get changed even though it hurt to bend down, and I had to walk all the way down to the from entrance on my own and I was in hella pain. And even though I gave the staff 3 phone numbers to contact for me they only wrote down 1 and my contact never got a phonecall on how I was doing.
After 2 hours of waiting to get blood drawn, it finally happened. But only to have my arm swell up immediately afterwards and now I'm sporting a massive bruise the entire length of my forearm.
My GF broke her knee when went skiing. She didn't have MSP so we needed to spend almost 400 bucks. Fortunately, she had "guard me" insurance so that the money returned it by that company. We didn't wait for a too long time, also the doctor was very nice and passion to teach us how to recover her knee. (we are an international student)
Clean and nice hospital, Staffs are very friendly. I was in hospital to visit my friend, she had baby delivered there and I see Nurses were helpful and act as families. I am truly appreciate them.
Nothing but a disease pit I recommend that anyone needing a hospital stay away from this place I spent 11 years going there for day treatment I know any hospital that is under Fraser Health authority i would advise giving a wide berth to them. I f there was a lower rating I would give it.
This hospital could definitely operate more efficiently. I spent 3 hours just to get x-rays on a supposedly broken toe and other 2 hours waiting for the only doctor on-site to check the results. In the meantime, the rest of the staff was chatting and wandering around. If they want to expedite the process they should put minor cases like this aside and let them be assessed by nurses or intern doctors. It seems like they make you to wait on purpose so they can charge you $5/hr for parking...
Fast and excellent service for our son.
I wouldn’t go back to this “hospital”???? if my life depended it! I had a UTI that got into my blood and caused sepsis, after which it spread to my lungs and heart, which not only affected my breathing, but had an adverse affect on my heart rate as well. But, instead of taking any vitals, and doing any testing, all they did was change my catheter and send me home! When I got home, I immediately called 911 back and demanded that they take me to Vancouver General Hospital, which they did, where I was given the attention and treatment that I ACTUALLY needed!
I had a terrible experience at this hospital. I was admitted into the hospital for 3 days when I noticed that the cleaning staff received budget cuts and they left feces beside my bed for many hours. I was very upset about this and I complained before being discharged. There was also a new nurse that was assigned to me and the IV catheter infiltrated on 2 different occasions. I would only recommend this hospital if you had no where else to go.
Made me wait for 2 hours straight for absolutely no reason. I was there for an emergency medical reason though.
Few day back, I had to have a medical procedure done here. This place made me feel right at home, and were very attentive to my needs. Customer service was spot on and felt very welcomed. Medical staff was wonderful, nothing but smiles and making sure I was comfortable and walked me through every step. Procedure went well, and even the physician came into recovery to check up on me. Overall a great place to receive your care.
I can't praise the doctors, nurses and other staff highly enough for the wonderful treatment we recently received for a scheduled surgery. All were so helpful, pleasant and reassuring from admitting, pre-op, OR, post-op and the ward. Very much appreciated. Thankyou
Edna in the Ambulatory Day Care was great, she was patiently answering me and reduced my stresses
The doctor took two blood samples from us and told us he would do an inflection test. One hour later, he came back and told us he did not do an inflection test. He said there was enough blood in my body. I don’t need to worry. He asked me to go home and wait. I have been bleeding for 4 days. Stupid Canadian Medical System.
Awful experience. As most others have said previously. The wait times are terrible. We waited for close to 4 hours, and dealt with rude staff. Nurses couldn't find a vein, my girlfriend had 5 holes in her arm after they finally jammed a needle into the bend of her arm. We were told to come back the next day for another antibiotic treatment, which was fine but my partners arm was in a lot of pain and discomfort the entire night from the mishandling of the nurse who quote on quote said "don't worry I always find the vein" then proceeded to force a needle into her arm causing her to a lot of pain. The following day we came back for our appointment, but they didn't keep our chart so we had to go through the entire registration process once again. After seeing a nurse they attempted to take a blood sample. Confused my partner asked why they needed more blood. The nurse said "oh I am not sure actually" Turns out they had the wrong patient... We have endured constant ineptitude, heavy weight times and general miscommunication between departments. This is easily the worst hospital we've ever been too. Please save your time and health and go elsewhere. It'll be worth the extra driving time in the long run, good luck friends.
I am always happy with their services. Amazing, nice and caring staff, well-organized system, great doctors. All you need as a patient.
I had surgery July 31st with Dr. Lalani. All went well, I was looked after by a caring staff and a great doctor. The area by the nursing station was always busy, I was allowed to go to lounge, everything was clean and I have no complaints.
My ex wife had a serious illness and they treated her quickly and with the care that was required. 5 stars for this experience!
We had our sisters delivered her second child here, the Dr was exceptionally good but some of the staff was so hard to believe that they worked in a hospital. The word empathy is far beyond the reach for some of t them. Have you been to the cafeteria??? The old lady not sure if it’s Timmy staff or hospital staff is the rudest in any Tim’s we have been to. You don’t have to cry with the patients don’t have to smile to their face but you can behave professionally and not rude. I dint think there is anyone seeing or reading these reviews thanks to the management
Went there after a pilonidal sinus excision that started being infected. The doctor that saw me, proceeded to do no checks, no ultrasound, immediately he wanted to cut the whole thing, redo the surgery and leave it open. He was been immensely rude and he didn't explain anything except kept telling me how "lazy he is". Left there went to another hospital. They did an ultrasound, found that the absess formed was superficial, poked it and drained it and put me on antibiotics. Now my incision healed perfectly and no more infection. These "doctors" that just want to rush and cut everyone up, how are they even allowed these procedures at a hospital. Where is the courtesy and proper protocol. Horrible doctor and Experience.
I landed in Vancouver straight from Montreal and after my 5th day in Vancouver My lung Collapsed due to a spontaneous Pneumothorax ! Burnaby ambulance came home and within 5 minutes i was already on my hospital bed ready for surgery.the doctors were all amazing and they explained very well the procedures. I ws admitted for 10 days.the nurses were really caring and patient. I recommend Dr Susan Kwan at Burnaby Hospital. She literally saved my life. If there was 10 stars i would have chosen them to rate this hospital.
Only one or two doctor in ER for around 25 people waiting in pain outside ... It seems like Fraser health doesn't have much funding.. ER department system needs to change... It requires quick screening by the doctor to set up priority...
They shut down the overnight psych ward so when suicidal people get brought here we're forced to sleep in chairs or out in the open on mattresses next to other patients which is not a good experience for traumatized people. They don't have any beds for psych patients so they rush releasing us, I explicitly told the dr I was feeling suicidal and still got rushed to release and ended up back there the next day with another attempt. The staff are overworked and they try but the hospital has clearly been underfunded and little help exists for the suicidal - people need to know what's happening to the mentally unwell in this city we're being ignored and forced into the streets I can only imagine what this is doing to the suicide rates in this city.
A generally better hospital compared to Vancouver hospitals. Nice staff and short wait times.
Once upon a time, I was born here. It's been pretty much downhill since then. I've undergone a couple day procedures here over the years, and accompanied family members for various appointments. The staff are by and large genuinely helpful and care deeply about their patients. Most doctors and nurses I've dealt with have done their best to help however they can. That said, the facility itself is not the greatest. It's an older building and doesn't compare to VGH or especially private clinics like False Creek. It gets the job done though. It can be confusing to find your way around, especially when going between the upper and lower sections. Crossing over the 4th floor, you have to go up half a floor to connect properly. Parking is tricky - you can pay to park outside the emergency department (top level), or there is more pay parking near the lower entrance. There is very little street parking anywhere nearby; it's either metered or restricted by "residents of this block only" signs. If you're having any kind of procedure done, you have to first report to Admitting, which is located inside and to the right of the upper entrance (near Emergency). Take a ticket and wait to be called there. There's also a reception desk there with volunteers if you have questions. There's a hospital policy that if you have not had a flu shot, you must wear a cough mask. There are also hand sanitizing stations everywhere, use them!
The doctors and nurses are angels. They treated me very well. Also, they are very thorough. Thank you!
Very terrible service, people who works in this hospital, have no empathy for those who are in so much pain. You supposed to go there for an emergency, but you received lack of empathy from employees instead. On Thursday 24th 2021, my son and I got there, because my son wasn’t well. We got there 2pm and after 4hr a nurse called my son going inside to see a Dr. My son was 4hrs suffering while nurses talking and laughing on the phone. Going on and off while people was waiting and waiting to be registered. Terrible service worse than a third world country. Too bad I can’t upload the videos on here.
This is for the Paramedic ladies Roomy and Kayla, who picked me up and transferred me to Burnaby Hospital. I had been getting sick, convulsing and disorientated. From the time they placed me in the ambulance and took me to the Hospital, both ladies were kind and professional, placing me at ease. I have Bipolar and PTSD. I am nervous about treatment and hospitals. Both Paramedics treated me with dignity, which made all of the difference! Thank you to them and ALL Frontline workers, especially Paramedics who are the first to transport! Also, a special nod to the nice security man working in the ER that night, as I appreciated the call for a taxi so early in the morning!
Greatest Hospital Experience I have EVER had. Professional, fast, courteous, friendly. They like to keep it light, they keep it patient friendly. Keep up the great work. Did not take my condition lightly, went above and beyond, and I personally would like to thank them for their great contribution to the Canadian Medical!
This is only for the Burnaby maternity clinic. Every visit you need to wait for at least half hour, so what is the point for appointment?
Our Doctor told us to do a self referral with this clinic. My wife calls in, only to be "Assisted" by a very rude Mindy the receptionist, who in my Wife's words was very condescending and had poor listening skills. Mindy told us that it was too early for a referral, she continued to mell us that she is new here and that she can't do referrals, and anyone that could is not available (Red Flag). I would also like to state that on your website it says "Ideally you should be referred as soon as possible in your pregnancy. This allows us time to complete any prenatal genetic counseling and testing that may be time sensitive." This first impression has made us very sure we do not want to deliver our first born here. We would not recommend this place at all.
I gave birth here in 2017 and it was the easiest experience ever. Admitting was fast, the birthing suite was new and had a tub, and the after care was top notch. I had 5 different nurses during my 2 day stay and they were all very accommodating and knowledgeable when it came time for breastfeeding. They all gave me different tips which was nice so I could decide which method I liked best. When they heard baby crying in the middle of the night they came rushing in to help. We were sad to leave. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and wished us luck when we left. My only complaint was that the shower in my room leaked and so it looked kinda gross. So I just waited till I got home to shower. I'm having baby number 2 there this summer. So I would still recommend going there. UPDATED DEC 2019: I had baby number two in August. We had an even nicer birthing suite than the last time. They had a cushioned bench and gave me lots of options for seats to have my contractions: yoga ball, spinning office chair, etc. I laboured there for 3 hours total before baby was born and the nurses were great and I had amazing after care again. Would still recommend this hospital.
What a luck!!???? I am currently admitted in a ward with some uncaring nurses in it! This one is the worst experience: When I really needed my pain med and had to press the button, it took awhile for my nurse to come. A different nurse came in with a face of "why u calling?". I said "is my nurse there"? And she said "we are all very busy right now" . Hearing that from a nurse is upsetting!!! But no point of arguing coz the pain I feel is too much now. So I said "well I need my pain medication now". She said "ok" and left. Been here for the past few days, had few encounter with this specific nurse (in and out of my room) and I highly recommend she look back on the reasons of why she became a nurse. You're really pretty but your caring power and patience is very low! I really don't want to ask for help from you anymore. I just wish I get to stick with the nurse of your choice who can help you manage your pain and discomfort. I love the care of the two nurses so far (Lana and Tammy). I give you 5 Stars!! Thank you very much.
Great staff. Thank you all.
Amazing service, broke my finger saturday Feb 1, 2015. Except for the pain... the staff made the experience REALLY GREAT. I can't thank you enough. Everyone from the registration desk, xray, doctor, nurses.... really care for people.... LOVELY
The most expensive parking lot. I'd rather taking a taxi to this place than driving my car.
Inadequate mental health services.
i brought my wife because of vomiting, dizziness, nausea, fever, bleeding and falling down with all symptoms of getting Stroke. after 5hrs and half waiting, doctor came in. She's been told what happen to my wife, then she asked me 2 questions which is " why you bring her here" & "what you want me to do". should those questions come from a DOCTOR? who are supposed to help patient understand their circumstances and find out the way to heal them? She got in and out every one hour and that cause me to leave the hospital at 9:30. Bonus point, she did ultrasound for my wife to find out the problem which is a good thing to do if she didn't do that in 3 SECONDS then left ???? I would give negative score if google allow to do so.
Staff is super friendly which is rare in hospitals. That makes a huge difference on our overall experience. Edit: It seems "destiny" sent us to the Burnaby Hospital once again and the staff did not disappoint! We had our baby delivered there and again they took very good care of us. Nurses and doctors were just perfect. I am truly thankful.
Worst healthcare have seen here in my entire life. I had a thyroid nodule and I consulted there as I was being told by many people. After waiting for 5 hrs and 1 xray, they told me that you should consult a family doctor and then go to specialist. If you are not able to understand the case or if you don't have any specialist in the hospital then you should refer the patient right away to the another specialist. I took off in my class and went there and what I got- Nothing. And I am still bearing the pain. I have heard that in northen countries the healthcare is the best, if you ask me India is far more better nd fast than Canada. Here they consider only dying situation as emergency, if someone is coming with pain and if it is for 2 days then it's not an emergency.
It took 2 hours to see the doctor, and the triage girl was not helpful at all and honestly a bit rude. But after we got to see the doctors, they were caring and everything was good
I couldn’t be happier with my visit, there was a lovely woman in registration that speaks Spanish and helped us a lot since my mom didn’t speak English. It wasn’t very busy so we went thru everything pretty fast!!

parking can be cheaper. Currently it is about 4.5 dollars per hour
I don't like hospitals ☹️
I had to get admitted and they took a rather long time to get me in and they put me on the bed and kept me waiting for a really long time. Some of the doctors are good but the real deal is they are severely understaffed and not professional at all. If you're in pain, tough luck trying to get someone to actually look into it in this place. They have a standard procedure of billing Canada through their emergency wards and their fees are ridiculous for what they are bringing to the table. And if you're not a new admit, they don't seem to treat you that well. Canada should be reviewing this hospital more carefully and have a word with the administration.
I just had my baby 5 days ago . The nurses, the doctors and all the staff are amazing, caring and loving, so professional.
Had to go into Burnaby Hospital for a severe headache I have had in the course of 4 weeks. Saw 3 different emergency doctors who were all so helpful. Dr. Hein, Dr. Gupta and Dr. Huang were all so caring. My headaches are still quite bad so I had to go back - Dr. Huang was excellent, knowledgeable and walked me through the steps I needed to do based on what the telemedicine doctor had advised. Had a spinal tap which was scary for me as I hate needles but he was very calming and reassured me throughout the procedure. Thank you to the lovely patient care attendant who I saw 3 times on my visits - I can’t remember her name but she had pink crocs on, she has such a big heart from how she was helping all the patients that were in hospital from what I was hearing. Thank you Burnaby Hospital Medical Team
Went to get checked for a concussion, and took 3 hours of waiting. The whole place feels very low budget, staff is harsh, they talk to patients like they are dumb animals. They didn't even check my eyes, basically said, you have a bump on your head - despite the fact that I have all the symptoms associated with concussion, I wasnt properly examined. Time wasted, now i have to go to another clinic to actually get checked properly. Don't bother coming here, anywhere else is better. Doctors give no f*cks.
Wife had the most awful experience while giving birth here. The epidural was poorly administered and wife was in pain for hours before they finally reapplied after we constantly told them it's not working as intended. Nurse in training decided to start asking my wife to push before doctor arrived and determined it was way too early. By the time my wife actually needed to push she was already exhausted and had no energy to do so. This hospital experience is the reason we decided not to have a second child.
I had a great experience there! Staff and nurses are so nice! As soon as I came in, I had a welcoming greeting from the front desk and she told me exactly where I had to go. Keep up the good work!
I had a terrible experience here. I came in on a Saturday morning to get my arm checked after injuring it from a fall off my bike. When I walked in to the emergency area, no one was at the information desk. I then saw a nurse coming out of the gift shop and I wanted to ask her about where I should go. She cut me off and directed me to the telephone by the information desk. I picked it up and was kept on hold for about 5 mins before I was put through to someone who kept saying "patient locating". When I found my way to the emergency area registration desk, the receptionist was incredibly rude. She screamed at me not to sit at the waiting area, but to stand by the door to wait for my turn. I mean, if you wanted to tell me that, you didn't need to shout at me in front of all the other patients. What was the point in that? She could have told me nicely, and I would have still listened to her. After registering (the lady who helped me was nice though), I went to the super track area to wait for my check up with a doctor. Another lady (I think it was a receptionist) came out, and started scanning me up and down in a somewhat belittling manner. She then asked me rudely what the matter was with me. I told her I fell and she asked if my arm has full range of motion, asked me to demonstrate it to her (Obviously, I don't, or I wouldn't be there at the hospital) and to show her my arm. Mind you, her request is totally fine with me, if her tone wasn't so unpleasant. It was like I was giving her a problem just by being there. The entire process took me about 3 hours. I'm okay with that, I understand that it is expected of us to wait in public hospitals. However, this is a hospital. Employees in the health care profession should know better at how to treat patients. I'm giving 2 stars, because the doctor, radiologist and the receptionist at the radiology department were nice. If you have another choice, do not come here. Until they change their staff, or re-train these ungrateful employees, maybe go to VGH instead.
I would have firmly given zero star if there was option to do that. Beware of a fat lady named Roxanne who works at the triage in the hospital. My recent horrible experience with her made I had to visit this hospital because I was suffering from the worst infections in my mouth. When I tried to explain to her about my illness, she had no empathy towards me. She is extremely rude, reckless and even has animosity towards patients. She better go back to pre school to learn how to treat and behave towards patients in a welcoming manner. The hospital should fire her!!!
Good experience with emergency. Nice and welcoming staff. Thank you for your work????????
I am so very grateful to not only the attentive and caring ER Nurses but the wonderful caring nurses on the Neuro ward. Thanks to Dr. Jay and my neurologist Dr. V. As for the younger ER docs and ward docs, PATIENT CENTRED CARE!!!! In my 25 years of working in pre-hospital emergency care...the patient knows their bodies best and let go of OPIATE judgement. It is a GP's job to worry about addiction...not an ERPs. It is now August 20th and I had to return to ZONE 3 of the ER and Cathy the RN, Dr. McGown the ERP, Meyer the XRAY tech, Laura the RN, and I am sorry but the nurses I forgot your names, you truly were angels today. I felt I was HEARD, treated with respect and felt compassion and understanding as I limped my way into your department. My ankle swollen and blue. TOO painful to weight bare. I THANK YOU all for treating me with dignity, as I KNOW you have patients with far more urgent concerns. YOU ARE ALL REMARKABLE...remember, you work for your patients, your employer signs your paycheck!
The doctors, nurses and staff from the B3, the Emergency room, the community outpatient units are caring even though they were busy all the times. They gave exceptional services to save the lives. Special thanks to three doctors from the emergency room, two doctors from the internal medicine department, Dr. Lee from B3, Dr. Peter from Infectious Disease department and all nurses who took care of me with kindness and professionalism. Thank you ALL.
The doctors and nurses are horrible at this hospital. I had to come in 3 days in a row before they actually kept me for longer than a few hours to just pump fluids. The staff of unprofessional and it doesn't seem like they are trained well enough. The wait time just to see a doctor is terrible. If there is any possible chance you can go to another hospital then do it!!!
4 hours for no attention! whatsoever.people are disconected or something. They dont seem to care.
The nurse are horrible they where taking 2 hours to put a freaking boot on
Nicole surgery recovery 4th floor. Very good. Caring, patient, pleasant and did a lot. Kept all her patients very comfortable. The 5 stars are for her.
Even not on a very busy day. The wait to see a doctor for a non emergency will range up to 4 hours. Better go somewhere else.
Nothing. Waited for hours. Still waiting. Patients have to wait for many hours to see a doctor. My friend came in the ambulance due to car accident and still waiting. Now more than 4 hours . worst service ever.
I agree with others, the worst experience in an ER. LONG wait times, no nurse even checked in with me once I was called to a bed. I asked for pain meds, they never came until I was about to get discharged. The medical student doctor who saw me went home and never ordered them for me. Get it together Burnaby!
Best hospital doctor was so nice and helpful I am so glad I want there
Had me confined in here and I can say that ALL of the STAFFS that cared for me here are all friendly and very accomodating. From the care aides to the LPN's, they all took care of my needs while I'm there. Kudos to the staffs especially Christine and Jenny who had been very kind assisting me.
The worst hospital I've ever been to! The night shift staff are so unprofessional and uncaring except for one nurse who was really nice.
The lady at the ER TRIAGE (Tuesday Oct 19, 2021, 3pm) had ZERO KNOWLEDGE about MSP and how MSP cards work. She did not know why my father’s MSP (who less than 2 months ago landed as PR) is not yet active. We found her tone and behaviour to be also extremely rude towards my 64-year-old father when she was asking the triage questions. Moreover, she told us that ER doctors cannot provide a medical report, which again proved to be WRONG INFORMATION, when we asked the doctor and he kindly provided the report.
We went to this hospital in emergency department , my friend was suffering from pain no one came upto 3 hours, IS THIS IS EMERGENCY SERVICE??? I will never recommend anyone to come this hospital as no one care about your pain..
People in Triage and Admitting here lack interpersonal skills. I get it that it sucks to work in an environment like that but nobody likes to deal with poor attitudes, especially when sick or injured. Wait times are very long here. 2 hours in the waiting area before waiting another hour and half to see the doctor. Doctor and nurses are brief. Overall, not a great experience and will go to another hospital whenever I can.
Maternity ward is spacious, comfortable and clean. Every staff member we encountered was very kind. Food was also good! Thank you everyone for providing me with such a pleasant experience during my stay.
I went to visit my friend on 3D in the hospital. There was no water available for her, she is bed ridden. No chair in her room for her to sit on to be able to get up and out of bed. She complained that her legs were burning, I looked and her legs were covered in ulcers. I know she is dying, but Really? So disgusted. They seemed surprised when I told the nurse to look at her legs. sheesh!
I have never in my life waited 4 nights in the ER of a hospital after arriving by ambulance and suffering a heart attack as I did last week at Burnaby General Hospital,I was given a handful of Plavix and left to die is what it felt like to me,it was almost impossible to get a nurse to stop even after pushing the buzzer,I did not get a wink of sleep as it got so noisy there at night,I wished they had put me in the hallway, would have been much quieter, nurses were very rude, and would always sigh when asked to do something, highly paid nurses in excess of 50 dollars an hour sitting around talking about thier vacations and weekends as patients are literally screaming for help, they should be setting examples for the new nurses and be role models for the hospital,This is the product that unions and highly paid nurses have created for our health care, which is absolutely zero, but trust what I have said try to go to a different hospital if you can,not sure it won't be much different though.I was very lucky I am still here.
The 5 stars are for our wonderful nurse Hassan. He was amazing. Attentive, patient and ontop of things. We felt safe being in his care for the 12 hours we had him. He should definitely be recognized for the initiative he takes for his patients!!! Hopefully you all will get lucky with the care of a great nurse. We did have issues where we had lazy nurses who didn't want to do their job to ther full potential during this stay. Good luck all.
Horrible, my mom admitted for gallbladder problem, was told needed surgery on Tuesday. Now it is Thursday night and still not done! no food for 3 days, history of Atrial fibrillation, off her blood thinner for 3 days. HORRIBLE !!

The worst service in this hospital
It's a good place.
slow and rude reception
Child bumped her head in school and needs stitching. Really thanks to Ryan and Neil at the emergency room for their help. The team is excellent and deserves a good recognition.
old 50s hotel
My husband and I were in Vancouver for a family event when he took ill. The hotel directed us to the nearest hospital, which was Burnaby. Needless to say, I was skeptical given the reviews. While the emergency and treatment area can use a bit of an overhaul, I found that the nurses and doctor in charge were extremely kind and caring. They assured us that we would be seen and leave in time to catch our flight back to the US. For this we are/were extremely grateful. I decided to write this comment to share our experience, not to discount the other negative experiences shared by others, but to share that we had a very positive experience and treatment and witnessed others receiving the same. I hope the hospital uses all comments to improve and strengthen the services they provide. Thanks to all who treated my husband. He is doing and feeling much better. You put us at ease and provided the treatment that worked. With Gratitude, M & WH
Go to VGH. Just dont even bother, thought I'd give them a chance regardless of the bad reviews, absolutely not worth my time.
Very unprofessional. Came in for a pneumonia check to see if there's fluid in my lungs. After waiting in line, asked the triage at the front roughly how long of a wait to expect to have the woman next to him giggle about it and when I asked 2 or 3 hours, she started giggling again. With no rough wait time given or quoted, and her giggling at 2 or 3 hours told me it would be much longer of a wait. Grow up and do your job professionally, it's a simple question of whether I stay up all night or go home and get some rest and check at a walk in clinic in the morning.
Waiting in ER with 88 year old mom suffering from fall to head...dizzy, nauseous....6.5 hr wait and still no doctor....if I ever have an emergency I’d rather die than come here
This place sucks. I waited 6hours to meet doctor and he didn't even help me. I was asked the same questions over and over again by many people in different department. It costs me $300 for nothing. The clinic I always go to was more helpful.

After losing our way (Because of poor directions at your main door) to my appt. with the Optimization Clinic, we were met at the Emergency by an extremely kind and helpful staff member, at 3pm,. Dec. 11th. I did not get her name, but she confirmed where we were to go, got wheelchair for my husband and helped him in it, provided us with fresh masks and good directions to the Optimization Clinic. I would like to commend her for her assistance. I would like to mention that anyone not familiar with the Hospital would not know where the Levl Entrance is. Directions or a small map would be more helpful than just, "Closed, use Level 1 Entrance).
There are so so bad and no one cere abut any one and no doctor available just waiting and waiting for any to served as
Baby aspirin for a blood clot.... Don't feel safe here
Very quick service
My wife and I can't thank the staff at Burnaby General Hospital enough for making the birth of our first child such a wonderful experience. The delivery and Aftercare teams were amazing. They were friendly, knowledgeable and gave us all the support we could have asked for. We also appreciated the time given to us before leaving the hospital. In no way did we feel like we were being rushed out. They made sure we were well educated and equipped before going home. Five stars to the Burnaby Hospital.
Avoid coming to this emergency. Wait time is almost same as a trip to Japan. Good luck!
The slowest hospital services I've ever seen in my life. The waiting time is ridiculous, every single patient is complaining about it.
Worst hospital bunch of Chatty Cathy's
Wish I could leave a different review about the ER but I must agree with others that have posted. Expect to wait hours to be called in to triage then even longer to finally see the ONE doctor covering the entire emergency zone. Nursing staff forgot about even providing a gown. 5 hour wait is not okay when you have patients complaining of pains and discomfort.
My mom had surgery here and the nurses were awful towards her. My mom felt like they would just intentionally let her die. After surgery they gossiped and tormented her asking why she wasn’t fully conscious yet. When my brother and I tried finding the nurses who treated my mom like this, the hospital said and did nothing and we weren’t able to find out who they were. Awful hospital, would not recommend at all.
That little asian DR man in emergency kept yelling at me for no reason , . I found it very funny i came in for an infection and he told me that "my" ECG is normal when i didn't even come in for ECG . He kept yelling and saying YOU CAME IN THIS MORNING ITS GOOD. I told him didn't even come in this morning and he kept yelling at me. So i said let me look at that and it was another persons ECG REPORT. WHAT A DUMMY AND THAT OLD 60 YEAR OLD NURSE IS USELESS AND RUDE.I DID NOT LIKE THE OTHER NURSES COMING IN AND LISTENING TO THE DR YELL AND LAUGHING AT ME NOT PROFESSIONAL BURNABY HOSPITAL. you suck at being a DR GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND LEARN TO READ. DO NOT COME HERE ITS NOT LIKE IT WAS 20 YEARS AGO.
Such a terrible experience with ROXANNA. Literally she is evil. Screener, doctor and registry were great but triage nurse (ROXANNA ) was horrible. She is so aggressive and has too much attitude. She’s good to be a BUTCHER instead of being a nurse.
Dr. Ian Wong is probably the rudest doctor I have ever interacted with in radiology. His full name is Ian Kai Yan Wong. He is extremely rude, extremely rushed like he's the king of the world or something. Just a ridiculous amount of arrogance and everything a doctor should not be. Terrible model for everyone around him as well. I would highly recommend that you avoid him at all costs. There are way too many other good doctors out there to waste your time with this one. It's terrible that the folks at this mediocore hospital in burnaby are so desparate to keep this guy around.
I am not sure about the behind the scenes of the hospital but my aunt and I have waited well over 2 maybe even 3 hours in the ER. Without anyone even updating us on our queue time, it is very frustrating and tiring. I hope staff can be more tentative and helpful the the patients. (Everyone in the room I've talked to felt the same way)
-Went to take my mom for a gastroscopy -After the procedure, i went back to get more information about the result and after care. -Doctor refused to meet me for a quick chat, and gave me a prescription only after i SPECIFICALLY asked for something to treat my mom's gastric erosion. -One of the nurse was extremely rude and impatient and pretty much told me off. No one would explain to me about the result of the gastroscopy and just told me to google it when i get home
Staff is professional , maybe a bit overworked , low patience from my experience , but overall good.
Good hospital
Illegal refugees from around the world who frauded the refugee system in Canada obtain world-class medicare here far superior than a canadian citizens medicare ..one illegal refugee they spent over 2 million in medicare costs only to find out they are illegals
Delivered my firstborn at Burnaby in November and the labour and delivery unit was amazing. Clean, calm, and competent and friendly staff. The maternity unit was also amazing for my prenatal visits. Dr. Lau and the L&D nurses that helped deliver my baby were incredible, so was Dr. Chua! The entire process was smooth. One happy mommy, daddy, and baby!
Hospitalists are absolutely incompetent. You might end up dying under their care.
Well, maternity apartment is good but some nurses from emergency apartment are not really friendly and patiently.
I am a senior who suffered from a mild heart attack a week ago. At the emergency room, as I lay in bed half asleep, a male nurse sexually molested me. In the guise of looking for a heart monitor loose wire connection, without any warning, shoved his hands inside my gown and grope my breasts. When I told him to stop, he continued groping for that loose wire. This is a classic example of elder abuse in a health care institution. I may be a senior but I am still a woman. I am a human being and not a trash. Frail, sickly and vulnerable seniors tend to be taken for granted by some health personnel, They tend to forget that we are human beings and we too have the right to be treated with dignity and respect . That male nurse should either be fired or banned from attending to seniors in particular and to women patients in general.
Unfriendly staff. They seriously need to clean the washroom.
Had to use emergency late night, quite efficient and professional behaviour. I wish the parking was cheaper at least for the emergency section.
Pathetic ! Not patient friendly, careless respo se ..long waits for results, arrongant staff..
I agree with the people that complained about ER. Expect to wait at least 4 hours before leaving the hospital. The first time we waited 4 hours. The second time we waited 6 hours. One doctor at the ER?!?! The doctor, Jeffrey Freeman, forgot that we were still waiting for him after he told us to stick around for him to come back to check. Extremely unprofessional. He did not seem to care that night. No one should have to wait 6 hours at ER! Fraser Health needs to address this immediately.
one of if not the worst hospitals I've been to. I went to emergency and the lady was so rude and not letting me say what happened to me. The nurse that checked me out didn't believe how I got hurt and she told the nurses I was fine even tho I told her I was not ok. I had really bad chest and arm pain. The doctor kept seeing everyone besides me for some reason. There was a lady screaming for help and she was afraid and the nurses began to laugh and mock her. Even the doctor chimed in. I've seem the nurses also looking at Amazon while supposed to be working. The doctors make you wait hours just to come see you and fake listen just to tell you to go home and if it feels worse to come back. Worst hospital ever. I would give this place negative 5 stars if I could maybe even more.
Worst experience. Waited in ER for 5 hours just to see a doctor after that in ER there was only one doctor to see everyoneagain waited for 2 hours. Nurse who took my blood sample was so rude and I don’t know how did she take my blood sample, my full arm swelled. Its now 12 days , I have given my blood sample but my full arm is still paining. I told doctor that my arm is swelled, he said it should be fine tomorrow. He didn’t even see what happened.I am pregnant and I told them that I am very hungry and need something to eat as I waited around 8 hours in total but no one cared. They said they don’t allow to eat anything until I see a doctor. Never visit again.
My wife gave birth to our first child in Burnaby Hospital, the building and equipment are a bit outdated, but doctors, nurses and other staffs are friendly and trustworthy, I have good memories and feel so appreciated. Hope those rich guys living in Burnaby can donate to the hospital and make it a better place. :)
The emergency is an emergency in itself, if you have something serious or need to see a doctor at night or on Sunday.. Go! Somewhere else!
The staff at the Day Surgery unit were attentive, compassionate and caring. I have experienced day stays in Hospitals in different parts of Canada. This was by far one of my most pleasant experiences, considering it was surgery. Keep up the good work.
The new admitting area is beautiful. The open concept makes you feel like you're in a hotel more than a hospital. Good work
it’s horrible here, the psychiatrist is trash. however the nurses a1 so polite
Terrible customer service! Came in with my mom pregnant under a lot of pain and they don’t prioritize the situation. We’ve been waiting for 3 hours and no one called her name yet!
Completely useless staff. Waited 3 hours for a nurse or doctor to notice me which they didn't. The nurse gave me dirty looks, helped every bed/section except for mine. I was suffering with really bad tonsillitis pretty much drooling on myself and no attention was given to me. When a patient beside me asked the nurse how long it's gonna take for him to be examined, she yelled at him and said " THERE'S ONE DOCTOR AND 100 PEOPLE".
The policy of this hospital is the worst. You would send home your patient who can't even walk because of pain? make them wait overnight in an emergency room for his lab test with minimal supervision, and end up just telling the patient that they are better off to be home and suffer more for 2 days just for a call from a specialist. Who ever runs this hospital is a scum of the Earth.
I would like to see someone smiling in this place very slow service.
Everyone in delivery/maternity ward was very nice and supportive during our 4 day stay when we were having our baby. Enthusiastic staff. Good job guys, keep it up.
Worst emergency hospital clinic I have ever been to. The amount of malpractice and lack of empathy is so heartbreaking. The way the nurses treat patients is so unprofessional and disrespectful I am considering making a formal complaint. I am truly concerned for the health and welfare of future patients and my deepest sympathy goes to them. Doctors are made a promise to save lives, and these people treat every person who comes through the door like criminals. Shame on you.
This hospital is well-run,with great staff. I have had family and friends use the hospital, and in all cases the experiences have been first rate. .
Everthing you do,waiting so long long long time。Either sometimes one reception take cares long lines or nurse chat around put patient to wait for ever
Nurse was so nice.
I came to the ER with a strong allergic reaction. The staff first ignored me for about 25 minutes, then was so rude that I can barely believe it. None of the staff should even in a people-facing role desite working in a hospital. There were 2 staff that stand out so much, Dr Kenney was very friendly, he is caring and was knowlegebable and simply great. Another nurse with grey or purple hair was very friendly and professional as well. unfortunately i had to deal with all the other staff for the 2 or 3 hours before getting to meet them. The only way i would consider this hospital again would be if i was dying.
Unbelievably slow hospital! If I could rate 0 star I would. Waited 3 hours at the emergency, not even 1 doctor come by to check anything. Nurses are wishy washy. Definitely need more improvement on efficiency I can only see people walking around, some are chatting by the reception. If you need immediate/ faster service, maybe choose another hospital!
Went for early morning procedures 2 days in a row. Parking $4.25 per hour or portion . Not a big parking lot. Building a bit dated. Staff in both cardiology and nuclear medicine friendly, knowledgeable, competent and efficient. All questions answered and was impressed with level of professionalism. Appointments on time. They made a stressful situation comfortable. Good job people!
I've had to stop by this hospital a number of times this last year for different types of imaging, and subsequent surgery. Other than one stop in emergency, every visit was pleasant. Its an old hospital, but the staff really do their best to work around it. I felt very fortunate to have such a great team of professionals looking after me. To the staff at Burnaby hospital; all your great work is appreciated!
Always have a great service from Drs. nurses and staff at this hospital, no complaints that all .thank you all
Absolutely terrible experience. Long long waits, staff wasting time. And after a pointless visit with a doctor who should have his license taken away. My son has bed in agony. Finally, 4 doctors later we've neen told that if he was just prescribed 1 specific antibiotic this would have all been gone in 2 days. Its been 3 weeks of suffering. Do not go here! So bad !
I unfortunately had to check myself into the hospital on Monday. When I got there I was feeling terrible and was disoriented. My spouse dropped me off at the emergency entrance. Every single person along my whole experience was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. First was the lady at the entrance that asks if you have any COVID symptoms and sanitizes your hands. She saw how shaken up I was and was very nice and friendly telling me Everything was fine, I was in the fright place and that I would be looked at right away. She asked me to stand at a decal in the floor and wait for the triage to call me. In less the. A minute, the triage called me and asked for my health card and took my vitals. She was also nice and friendly and within 2 minutes she assigned me a specific room. A nurse met me at the entrance and took me to my room, gave me a gown and told me to wait for the dr. As soon as I was done changing, the doctor came in asked me to lie down and told me what the situation was. She was calm and friendly and professional. So were the 2 nurses (one of them named Andrew)that were with her. With in 5 minutes they had a ready resolved the issue, and I just needed to stay there in observation and resting for a few more hours. The nurses came back to check on me often and talked to me about other people that have what I had, making me feel normal and safe. There was a change in nurses shift and the new nurse (Libby) was also super nice and friendly, very helpful and even printed me out some information on the situation that had just happened. Even the technicians/(not sure what they are called) that did my bloodwork were very nice, patient and caring. I eventually left and when I got home I realized I forgot my phone, so I called them and they said they had it there, and I could go pick It up. When we got there, there was a new triage, she went and got my phone for me and even threw in a couple jokes. Over all the staff at the hospital made what would have otherwise been a very stressful experience to be a lot more manageable and helped me feel calm, safe and at ease. I even got the follow up call from the hospital dr first thing in the morning of the next day. I would definitely recommend this hospital
I mean it's a hospital, it's not going to be fun. I was in the ER for two days, and admitted for 6. You have to wait in the ER, the food was eh, they're understaffed and I'm sure everyone had Covid. However they provided medical treatment and kept me from declining. I know people have complaints but at the same time it's a hospital, the staff there aren't providing customer service, they're there to provide medical treatment.

Wait for the doctor for 6hrs until the 3pm , and nothing he can do, and second day go UBC hospital, the problem fixed
My experience in emergency was not good. The waiting area was crowded and the admissions staff were not hospitable. Wait times were long. Parking is expensive and the pay machines were few and poorly located ie. nothing available next to emergency forcing one to leave patient alone in waiting area to find the only two machines at the main entrance, one of which was out of service and caused long lineups. Emergency parking lot is not handicap friendly with a long curb in front of all the handicap stalls that has no ramps for wheelchair access, forcing those who are disabled to find a longer route in the drive isles. Even the crosswalk was a fail, in which it was done with a spray can and so poorly marked drivers ignore it. An ER physician did not do my paperwork properly which caused confusion and repetition with another department afterwards. When I had to return for follow-up, I had to call information several times before finally getting someone on the phone to provide correct directions. Next time I will have to go to a VCH facility instead, because even the longer travel time would be shorter than the wait times at this hospital.
I was in the emergency centre last night with some serious intenstinal pains ........ the staff from entry to triage to the Doctors treated me so well that I late felt a little ashamed about going in with what turned out to be a somewhat minor affliction.. well, the pain wasn't minor..... God bless and thank you...i promise I'll be there for any one of you when you may need some help ... hey ...dont laugh... you never know what life throws at you...
Great service Total time spend 5 hours needed a cathether inserted
Revolving door medical system with long wait times.
The nurses here are horribly rude. Wish i could give 0 stars for the experience I had
How could you be a hospital when nobody answers the phone
Appalling customer service in the Endoscopy / Cystoscopy treatment area. Nurse staff make no effort to engage with patient family. When they do, it appears to be a great inconvenience to them. Demeanor is indifferent at best. They make Nurse Ratched look like Mother Teresa. Surely a private system would not tolerate such poor customer service.
Came to ER for severe knee pain. I could barely walk. After admitting, i needed xray and this older nurse said I could walk across the hallway where it’s super busy to get to x ray. Is common sense not there at this hospital? Then when i came back my stuff is moved from my bed to another by this same nurse. I mean what the hell Is going on??
Horrible experience at this hospital. Always the longest wait. As if the doctors and hospital employees are under paid..
No free parking around it, the staff friendly and helpful, and they have a quieck serviece for kids they don't leave them wait a lot .
actually i want to give a zero star, but unfortunately there is no zero star. the emergency triage working staff is good, as well as the registration working staff and the volunteers working with them. they are warm, patient, at least they looked like this. however, when you come into the emergency zone 2 and pass through the door, totally disaster and night mare. rude nurses (especially the fat girl who work for gynaecology and obstetrics), and the nurse desk(I am not quite sure if this can be called as the nurse desk or reception or information desk ), they gossiped about the patients from behind and even mocked patients behaviour and patients words! just imagine, vulnerable patient who was supposed to be cared, but when the patient passed by the nurses and the information desk, what the patient heard was taunt and being made fun of! what a "fantastic" hospital !!! what such gorgeous working staff! what a pity they don't choose acting and mocking as their career~ what a"wonderful "service attitude toward their patients!
My experiences in ER have not been favorable. If you need the ER, expect to wait a very long time. As in hours to see someone. Other areas of the hospital have been better, but wait times are still long.
Going to Burnaby Hospital is like going to a third-world country hospital.
Dr.Luke Armstrong is a very rude and arrogant physician who thinks he's god's gift to the world. You often hear him raising his voice towards patients and taking his anger out on them. He's burnt out and he just graduated he needs a course in anger management.
My cousin was turned away by the admitting nurse 3 times. Dismissed as something minor; wasn't even seen by a doctor. His condition got worse: couldn't swallow or talk. Became like a kid again. He was admitted to Burnaby General, no improvement. When he was transferred to VGH, he got better. Do not go to Burnaby. VGH is best.
Was in and out for minor surgery very fast and the doctor and nurses were funny and great.
What kind of a doctor starts the conversation with, “Since I might get a call from somewhere, up, so I will be here for only a few moments”? Besides, during a previous session the so called doctor scared my wife, saying the baby had some issues with kidneys. Apparently in the next session the so called doctor never talked about the kidney issues. Even with an appointment, we were made to wait for a long time, after which the lady-doctor came in and started with reports, saying the baby had not grown. I was scared, but with some courage I asked if there is an abnormality, on which the doctor’s reply was, “I don’t know”. Again my wife asked if it is some kind of a serious issue, the doctor again replied, “I don’t know”. This, “I don’t know”-lady said she had referred my wife to go for a fetal monitoring, which till date nobody called us for. My wife asked the doctor again, what if the baby not grows further, on which the lady said, “God knows” and gave a wicked smile. That was the point, when I came to know we were wasting our time and I walked out of the room. My wife after crying all night, next day called Burnaby hospital for an appointment with another gynaecologist as the website showed eight of those. There was some kind of doctor who asked her to come in, the same day. But to my wife’s horror the receptionist got mad, saying it is only one appointment per month. My wife explained her, that another doctor had called her in, considering the nature of the case, to have a look at the reports. But the rude receptionist was not accommodating. Again my wife was made to wait for a long time only to find that the same previous “I don’t know” lady forced herself into the room where my wife was waiting. She was irritated at my wife, as she requested for another gynaecologist. This time the, “I-don’t-know-lady” suddenly changed her statements saying there is nothing to worry about the baby’s growth. This confused us further.
The triage nurse/receptionist was being extremely rude and condescending when I've never been to a hospital on my own before. Embarrassed myself and my girlfriend in front of the lobby! People like her have no right to work in a government funded establishment meant to serve the general population!
Late emergency @ 2 AM for stitches on my pinky finger. Took like 40 mins to answer loads of questions + waiting to see someone even though there were only 3-4 people in waiting room. A clerk/typist comes up to me after the doctor stitched me up and says "oh, just a measly little stitch. Thought it would be more exciting". How much are we paying this girl again?
Mom waited 41 hours in emergency after waiting 7 hours to get past the admissions into the ward itself. After her emergency surgery when she could eat, she found a fly and hair in her food. She wasn't washed for a week after she had her surgery. She is diabetic and they forgot her breakfast meals which caused issues. They were incapable of putting a needle in her arm for the intravenous. It took 11 tries and left her with bruises. She has edema and they didn't put her on water pills which left her with an ulcer on her leg. This ulcer is the return of one that we spent 6 weeks getting rid of in the spring. Don't go to Burnaby general hospital. It's horrible. Every time I asked to speak to the patient care consultant in the ward, a person who changed daily it seemed, nothing happened to improve the situation. When I finally asked to speak to the ward manager I was dodged it every opportunity. When I finally told them that a family member was a lawyer and I felt I would be wanting to go on social media about this I was contacted within the hour. At that point they would do anything to please me and shut me up. I just feel sorry about the people in the ward that don't have someone to advocate for them. I wouldn't send my worst enemy there.
I thought waiting a long time for an ER doctor was normal, reading the reviews I guess not. I waited for my friend for almost 3 hours, then the nurse came in and woke him up and said you can leave now Jezzzz
I was very impressed with all staff here. Very kind, friendly, and respectful. Thank you to all of the workers????
It's better than most.
Wait 5hr in the emergency room. Still cannot see the doctor. Just give 2 Advil to my friend to release the terrible blood infection pain. Emergency Service Is not acceptable. Really Need improve please Don't waste taxpayers money.
worst hospital with the worst service and rude nurses/staff. Avoid and go to any other hospital if you want decent care.
Wait times here are just terrible. You end up waiting hours. Better to take children to Children's Hospital. Not enough doctors to go around. Need a overhaul with priorities. Children, seniors priority thab adults and teenagers unless severity is worse.
What an awful place. Death by exhaustion. Is everyone treated with indifference or just seniors. I was sent home after a week with bedsores, unshaved and infected with covid.
I was there for an MRI so I am leaving my review just for the MRI ward. Just remember the main door of the hospital is a little bit confusing and you have to go from the main back door. Everyone there is very helpful although it was so busy but all the staff were very welcoming. Area was completely clean and during the time I was there they sanitized the area 2 times. I had an injection and they did it really painless. The only thing I have some complications about is it takes so long to send the results to my doctor, two weeks!,
I was in a lot of pain. The doctor believes it was an ovarian cyst burst. The staff was very empathetic and kind. They were having to deal with a lot. Many of the patients were difficult but they kept a smile on. Thank you for doing what you do
I had to go into the ER because I had a blood clot in my left leg: When I explained my injury and the severe pain I was in, I wasn’t taken serious and instead was noted as “person who hurt his leg”. After a doctor finally tended to me, he expressed his concern of the seriousness of my condition. I was administered a blood thinner and was put to have an emergency ultrasound within the next 24hrs. I was then sent home to wait for their call. They called me in early morning and told me come in later that day. I’m here currently waiting for the results. The reason for this review is because the service of every person that came in contact with me the moment I stepped into this hospital were (to say the very least) completely and utterly rude. There was a receptionist imperticular (Zone 3) who just seemed absolutely miserable or racist (I say racist because of how I noticed she treated the person who she attended right after me). I live in Burnaby and would not recommend this hospital.
Absolutely not professional staff in Endoscopy department. 5 nurses and 1 doctor could not get into a vein to my wife. 2 nurses told immediatly that they are not able to do it, 3 other tried but faled. Doctor tried twice and finally got into one. Do not forget that this is happened in hospital!!! Doctor Davinder Sandhu was not able to give a proper sedation to do a colonoscopy to my wife, so she started a procedure to an absolutely awaken person. After my wife started to scream, she just stopped and did not finished a procedure. When my wife ask her to add more sedation, she refused and suggested to her to go to different hospital. This procedure was booked in November 2015. So, 4 months of waiting period, 5 days of preparation to a procedure and no result at the end for the patient, because of lack of professionalism of the doctor. We will not recommend to anyone to go for any endoscopy to Barnaby Hospital as even doctors performing procedures overthere recommend to go to different hospitals.
went to emergency as i felt really ill.. the lady who took down my personal info was so rude..she yelled at me a lot..angry and impatient.. I was sacred b/c of my health problem, i didnt know what would happen to me..and the lady really made it worse.. I had to use all my self control to not cry.. even i really want to. i felt so so helpless.. (the two doctors i saw after were professiaonl. i really appreciate)
A consistent source of bad service. Had to wait 8 days for a urine test that was taken while i was in the ER to find out that they had got inconclusive results. life labs did it in 2. unbelievable
Excellent
Waiting in Emergency for 2 hours, damn I rather diagnose by myself.
Had surgery here last week with Dr. Mahy, he and the whole staff were great! They took the time to answer questions and explained everything very well. Everyone from the surgical team took time to come and chat with me before the operation, and were all very pleasant. I would not hesitate to go back.
I would have given it 4.5 if not for this very rude staff that works at the cast clinic. My chart has my name on it but he chose to motion with his fingers to come follow him like he does with a dog. When I did not follow him he went back out and again motioned with his fingers not saying anything. Thinking that my doctor was waiting to look at my incision I followed him. He led me to one of the beds, still not saying a word. He just stood there like a driftwood. I had to tell him, "well, you will have to tell me what to do. Give me some instructions". Finally he said "I want you to hop on the bed". His silence would have been okay if he were mute but he wasnt. He was just plain ignorant and rude. He needs to be taught not just to do his job but to be exercise courtesy at the very least. Three thumbs down to tgus guy. I hope his superior gets to read this review. Overall the service was very efficient especially at the optomization. The staff there deserve to be acknowledge not just for doing their job but doing it well!
What an amazing staff. This place runs like a fine tuned Mercedes.
By far the best hospital I've ever been to. From the receptionists to the nurses and doctors, they really made me feel cared about, we were just goofing off the entire time. Had to get a couple staples for my head injury. Any hospital you go to, the people there are working long hours and usually under staffed but everytime I look back and think about it, I get a little overwhelmed haha. Thank you for the pleasant experience!! And to the nurses and doctor who got me fixed up! :)
(Translated) Very kind (Original) 매우 친절하였다
I made some macrame bracelet . I dropped it off at the gift shop hoping they could made some money out of it. Days later I passed by, so I went to ask if they wanted some more. The worker there didn't appreciate it at all. After talking to her I walked away . Then I heard her complaint about it to the receptionist. I never asked to be thank for it. But I never expected a complaint . I was so hurt, I just wanted to pay back what the hospital did for me. I'm not rich , but what I made is from the heart. I just wanted to do something for the hospital. The hospital helped me a lot. But I'm hurt that they don't like what I did. I just wanted the hospital to made some money. I never asked to be thank for it, that's why I just dropped it off without saying anything. I never thought that would made people uncomfortable. Now I learned.????????
I WILL RANK IS 1 AS THE SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. The doctors are good. The nurses are not bad. But as a system it does not function. My father was admitted for an Xray, he did not have any fracture but he had a severe heart attack that could have been avoided easily. 1. we came to the hospital with an ambulance and the staff who were very professional. They explained that has an extreme pain so it is better to put him directly on the spine board to prevent later pains. The nurse in charge agreed after lots of discussions and told the ambulance staff that she is coming back in a minute. The ambulance staff waited a few minutes and put my father on board. The nurse fame back in half an hour and told the ambulance staff that they miss a plastic in between the board and my father that she told one of her colleagues to take care of. When they asked whom she couldn't answer and she made us wait another 2 hours to see the radiologist. 2. My father had the symptoms of heart attached and I explained to them that my father shall take nitro spray that was on the list of his prescriptions several times. They wasted the valuable time did not properly communicated with the doctor wasted the valuable time again to take my father's blood pressure that was restless as a result of heart attack severe pain and finally gave him the spray after 40 minutes of the symptom. 3. My father was seen by the doctor and we decided that my father needs to continue with the same medications as he was talking before. We have been left in the emergency room without a any medications other than nitro patch that was 1/6 of the previous medications. 4. Long story short after 2 days we ended up in a room not in the emergency room. After putting back all the medications a detailed check the doctor suggested not to continue to save his life to remove the IV needle and give some injection that after lots of follow up was around 4 hours as apparently was due to waiting for their pharmacist. I asked the nurse at least she can remove the IV needle waiting for the medication that I can not explain I cannot provide all the details as it would be a novel. The system is not working although there were some good doctors and nurses, the waiting times are unbelievably long and I do not recommend it as some where you can rely on.
I wanted to thank Dr. H. Lee, for expediting me for my preparation for heart surgery. Also wanting to thank Dr. M. Lee, and all of the nurses and staff who were accommodating though this process.
Triage nurses know their stuff but don’t give off the most inviting/customer service experience when you first walk in (I know they’re not in the service industry but they are literally the first people you meet when you enter the ER). But once you get in, everyone working in the ER who treat you are absolutely lovely people. Very competent staff. Thank you for your service!
I went the hospital as my wife sprained her ankle. We stood in line for 45 mins to see the triage nurse. We forgot our care card so she rudely stated that we need to go to registration and then wait in the line all over. When I said my wife has sprained her ankle and we have been standing for almost an hour she said welcome to emergency. She was very rude and unprofessional and had no empathy. I also witnessed this nurse speaking loudly almost yelling at several people while we waited. This nurse needs to be disciplined and or removed from the position. After reading all the posts in the past months regarding the same behaviour in the ER appears that the management is not talking their employees professionalism or conduct seriously. Disappointing as it had been over 5 years since I needed to step foot into an ER and the last time it was Burnaby and they were great. Something seriously changed here.
I had a back injury and went to see a doctor. The doctor saw me and asked a bunch of question ( within 2 mins). Told me a medical term and asked me if i knew what it meant, i told him i didn't and he told me to google it. after seeing me for 2 mins made me wait half an hour then came back to tell me nothing is wrong and you can go home without any explanation or any medication. I was in so much pain. Felt like he just wanted me to leave, Plus he was so rude.
it good
The cancer clinic in Burnaby Hospital is the best around. They took such good care of me. I was dying when I showed up there. Before that I went to two other emergencies and was sent home .The emergency sugeon and the Oncologist at Burnaby Hospital kept doing tests and I soon had a diagnosis which meant I could start treatment. This was almost 2 years ago now I am fully functional, happy and running after my two grandchildren. Thank you for all that you do for people ❤Burnaby Hospital..
WORST SERVICE, waited to get registered for hours. At first they told us to wait outside until we get called but said they tried to call us 3 times. Symptoms got worse without any help only told me to calm down. Others said we were supposed to wait inside but we we told many times to wait outside. Didn't get help or see doctor so we left..
I have to put a star in order to rate them. Their service don’t even deserve any stars. Words can’t describe what a horrible experience I had with their nurses. They have zero respect with the patient. Worst service ever plus you get no where to escalate. They think they are under the absolute authority to give you whatever service they want. The receptionist was extremely rude and unprofessional. Worst worst hospital ever!
Needs more provincial funding
Horrible treatment in the emergency. The staff in the triage had no patience to check me and as soon as they checked my oxygen saturation they didn't want to hear anything from me. The waiting time was 4 hours between the triage and getting any call from the doctors. That was the worst hospital experience I have ever had. I am asking myself if I wasn't an immigrant the treatment would be different ://
I don’t usually do anything like this but my experience on Sunday Feb 28 I went Emergency for some very concerning symptoms and after a month of no clear help The Emergency Dr on call was the most professional compassionate helpful Dr I have had the pleasure to have in this moment she took the time and addressed every concern I had Her name was Dr Sue I walked out of the Hospital feeling like I had a direction to follow The Hospital should be very grateful for her dedication to her job Sincerely Kimberley Gerelus THANK YOU DR SUE
my brother was looked after by dr chang and he discovered a rare form of cancer that anybody else would have missed. although he has passed away we were prepared for it thanks to him.
Asian nurse with colored hair was very rude to me and other patients. I will try and avoid going to this hospital in the future.
Zero customer service and very bad services specially with Super Track & health record department.
Went to burnaby general hospital to remove splinter from my left hand finger because it was right inside the nail Dr Armstrong had to inject me, while doing so nurse sylvie stood right beside me calm me down it was with the severe pain, can't believe went with so much pain came back with the good smile on my face. Thankyou so much!! Great people with great energy!!
Worst hospital ever , waited 5.5 hours to see a doctor, had a hard time breathing and they left me wait this long, very unprofessional from the nurses also, never even asked if I wanted water, standing around doing nothing, go here to die, worst hospital ever
Had a mysterious ailment, but the doctors and nurses had patience and helped me to better understand what the problem was.
Incompetent nurses who don’t know how to get a needle in definitely worst hospital I’ve ever been to. Never seen nurses who are afraid of needles before avoid this place at all cost. A nurse who puts a clearly broken needle in only to realize shortly after bleeding that it’s broken. Been here 3 times bad experiences was seconds away from walking out the last time cuz I can’t trust these ‘nurses’. And it’s wasn't only me even with other patients they tried many times to get a needle painfully and I don’t know exactly what they messed up with the guy next to me but they are apologizing think they didn’t disinfect his tube before inserting or smt asking him if they can get him water to garggle on..
2nd time in a month at Burnaby General for day surgery. Efficient, friendly and informative. I felt like I was the most important person in the hospital on both visits...thank you to a great staff
Wait is way too long and no one seems to care very much
I was here today for ER. I spent 6 hour in total. 5.30 hours are waiting for a doctor. 15 minute for x ray and 15 minute with doctor. Staffs are always laughing and chatting. The ER only has one doctor which makes it long for everyone. I will try another hospital in the future.
Emergency doctors, nurses & all working people are very nice and attentive. They are patient, thoughtful and profession. Thanks very much for taking care of my dear friend.
Very very poor system in ER,everyone comes from there works but nobody cares at hospital,at least 5 hours wait, they laugh talk some are really really frustrated from work coz they are paid only $30 to $40 per hour, At Ttriage 2 near the door today 22 January 2019 at 8 PM the lady's behavior was really really rude, I really discourage it. And parking is just a nice way to make money of our blood and bones hard work. WHO CAN FIX IT? PEOPLE SUFFER¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¿
I had to stay in a ward for almost two months. I was wondering around the ward and said hello to a nurse. She replied with "f--k off". I was shocked at that rudeness.
Not good service, went in with a non displaced fracture of my foot. Supportive measures written on med record which means nothing was done. No foot cast boot, crutches nothing. Pain ongoing for two years, follow up x-ray now shows a 3mm displaced fracture from this negligence. Now pain for life. All documentation to show a trail of poor treatment.
The asian doctor in emergency is terrible and i had to wait 4 hours to see him.
Very poor service from emergency to the upper wing . Doctors disagree with each other and one head nurse is very rude , disruptive and does not care !!
what a waste of time this place is. never did get to see the ONE doc at emergency. Really, a city emergency with one doc! And, while waiting for hours, at least 5 people jumped ahead of me in line! Apparently, they had appointments, if you can believe an emergency takes appointments. One guy though, said he had to get to a concert! An f-ing Concert!!! And they let him jump the queue. Incompetent morons! burnaby hospital can sukmyballs!
GOOD PLACE !
(Translated) Negative reviews, the manpower is not inadequate, why the same manpower in other hospitals can be better! What is needed is reform! Only see three times to complete the registration process! ! ! People are not in a hurry or come to the emergency department! (Original) 差评,人手不是不足,别家医院也是一样的人力为什么就能好一点!需要的是改革!分别见三次才能办好登记手续!!!人家不急也不来急诊啊!
I may have had a stroke and they rushed me in. Nurses hooked me up to tons of machines and I was seen by doctors pretty quickly. Got a CT scan the next morning and a rush neurologist appointment at the hospital very quickly.
Ryan MacKay the LPN at emergency has to work on his attitude problem. He needs to know it's not ok to be-little women and talk down and yell and gossip about them to other nurses. Not sure who gave him the right to yell at patients, he should choose another career.
I was just discharged after a suicide attempt. The doctor did an ex ray of my neck a simple blood test. Ignored my seizure history. I can hardly swallow. The on call psychiatrist say we can't help you and before I new it, was being told I was discharged even after telling him I would attempt it again if sent home. The nurse was cruel, as I was barely able to stand up. She said, I saw you walk. They look at my frequent visits and never consider that my health and mobility has so terribly gone down hill. It was humiliating. Sent home in a cab with no other stops specified only to cover liability. Seen as alcoholic only. Social workers are robotic. My call for home support has gone unheard. Unable to acquire any food or prepare my meals. Literally starving to death in my apartment. told I'm too young or look to healthy. I understand the whole system is overwhelmed.
Broke my ankle longboarding. The staff went above and beyond to make sure I got surgery that evening, and to make me comfortable . Obviously it's not a five star hotel, but the food was half decent, the bed was better than some hotels, and all staff that I encountered were exceptionally friendly. I genuinely felt that everyone was there to help and that's rare in a health care facility. My thanks really goes out to getting me back on the road to recovery in such a professional, urgent, and skilled manor.
This hospital claims they are a SMOKE FREE ENVIRONMENT! Every time I’ve been there I see patients and customers smoking with these BIG YELLOW SIGNS behind them saying “NO SMOKING” But they don’t do anything about it!
Hospital is on the older side but I've always gotten good nurses and they've taken care of me. Growing up 8mins away I've been quite a few times as a child as well as in adulthood.
Worst service and Lazy rude emergency room staff. If you need emergency, don't go there. They may kill you.
I've been spending quite a deal of time at Burnaby Hospital for Iron infusions, blood transfusions, and recently for emergency surgery. No words can describe how lucky i am to have had such amazing care and compassion from the nurses at this hospital. The Outpatient lab has some of the most amazing employees. I've been in 5 times now for iron infusions and am terrified of needles. They know this and go out of their way to make sure i am comfortable during the entire procedure. Thank you all!!!
For me, Doctor HUGH LI is THEE BEST DOCTOR in ALL of BURNABY GENERAL HOSPITAL. period. Consider yourself lucky to be seen by this outstanding Doctor. My story is too long to get into, but just please know, that this man has saved my Mom's life and I am beside myself with gratitude. Thank you so much Dr. Li for being a genuine person to deal with - You are Ah-Mazing and I am recognizing you for your care and as an outstanding Doctor, whom I respect.
I was in a lot of pain and one of the worker there told me to be quite. Went to washroom and stayed there for long time til they called my name
My left thumb was sprained yesterday. This was the first time I went to emergency department. I have always heard that the waiting time is usually 2-3hours, so I paid 2h parking fee right after I arrived the hospital. To my great surprise, the whole procedure finished within one hour. I was seen by the doctor, did an x-ray examination and re-seen by the doctor. There's no fracture, and the doctor let me go home. All the staffs were very nice. I am so lucky.
Bad service.when you're wait room .wait for Dr. I was wait too long ,4-5 hours.don't believe wait line.I was understanding Dr.was very busy.a lots patient.please fix bad system.
Was transferred here from Langley to have a baby and was completely disrespected. Any single moms coming to have a baby, I would reconsider. The judgment was unreal and completely unprofessional.
Ultrasound/medical imaging office staff very rude, unhelpful, useless. Maybe get new staff with better education or train them properly. They also only accept requisition by fax. Nobody uses fax guys it's 2019.
Delivered my first baby at Burnaby Hospital earlier this month. My encounter with emergency was lousy. My water had broken and I visibly needed to be moved to labor and delivery right away, however the girl registering me took her own time taking down my details from my husband without so much as offering to have someone else wheel me up! The team of nurses at both labor & delivery as well as maternity, on the other hand, were AMAZING! They were clearly understaffed, but the nurses never let it show in their interactions with us. They were all super kind, approachable, warm and knowledgeable. I had an emergency c section and my doctor - Dr. Mckercher - was PHENOMENAL. She truly cared about what I wanted and how I felt and played a huge part in bringing my son safely into this world. All in all I was very lucky to have this team at Burnaby hospital!
Very bad emergency experience.
