I came here for a digital perm. I am a Caucasian with light hair, and it is very fine. Not the best for digital perms, and my first attempt fell out. Unfortunately my first appointment was right before the covid shutdown! Then they were closed for business. HOWEVER, they willingly redid it without additional charges once they reopened. And the second time we used smaller rods and it came out amazing! I had Mako. She is very good at her job---understanding and quick to explain. Very knowledgeable and kind. She doesn't look down on you as many good stylists do. Basically she is awesome! The salon itself is amazing. Very chic and has a natural twist. I felt like I was in a salon inside a birch forests! The shampoos all smell AMAZING and there isn't that over strong chemical smell wafting about that many salons have either.

I just completed my second multi-hour service and 1st ever full-hair coloring treatment at T-Garden Hair Salon with Min, and I can confidently say that I will be coming back again, and again, and again! I previously got an OXO straightening treatment done last May with Min as well, which was LIFE CHANGING! I went from spending hours a week straightening my hair everyday to saving tons of time never having to worry about it ever again! The treatment straightened my hair beautifully for 8-12 months, without looking too artificial, and I noted that new growth was also more straight than my usual hair prior to the treatment, which is exactly what I’d hoped for. This year, I decided to get a massive coloring job done to have some fun and help cure the COVID blues. I settled on a vibrant pink ombré coloring, and I coordinated with Min via Instagram and was delighted when she reported that the job could be done! Min is an EXCELLENT stylist—she was responsive, helpful, and excited about the endeavor. Coming in-person to T-Gardens during COVID was very peaceful and safe. They check customer temperatures, there are plastic dividers in between seats and sections, and all customers are 6 feet apart while customers and staff wear masks constantly. The staff even kept the door open from time to time (despite heavy rain the day I came) to help air out the facility. Overall, I felt very safe having a 4+ hour treatment done with them. Min was helpful and fun to work with throughout the process, answering every question and explaining the steps as we went along. As an extroverted introvert, I appreciated that we could enjoy hours of silence while she worked (and I basically napped haha), and chat or share jokes a bit too. At the end, this transformation felt both, totally magical — and totally safe. I couldn’t be happier with the results! And I have plans to return when the time comes to recolor. If you plan to do this treatment, especially during COVID, I recommend a few things: - wear a mask, 2 if you can, because it helps keep everyone safer! And wear a mask that you don’t mind getting stained with a little dye. It’s part of the process. - Be prepared to spend 4-5 hours in the chair, especially if you are going thru the whole process: bleaching, conditioning, coloring, and cut. - Bring a water bottle. They can surely provide water, but a bottle will be easier to sip from than a cup, and help keep everyone safe. - Bring some gum, and eat prior to coming. It’s going to take a while! - Charge your phone...you’ll have a lot of downtime. :) Overall, I recommend T-Garden to anyone who wants to get these sorts of jobs done. Their staff is great, their app is easy to use to schedule, and their facilities are clean and doing all the right precautions during this time. Thank you T-Garden!

My new favorite hair salon!! I called on a Saturday and was able to make an appt the very next day with Lisa for a digital perm. She was the nicest hair stylist I have ever had and my experience very pleasurable and surprisingly went by fast (digital perms are typically 3 hours). Lisa offered me a drink menu with an array of different beverages- I opted for the green tea which was very delicious! This salon had the most affordable prices for perms in the city and they are experts in the area. I loved the results of my perm and it came out exactly how I wanted. One thing I also loved about this salon, was how quiet and comfortable it was inside. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be visiting again!

Literally only giving 5 stars here because I can’t give 20. I’m from out of town, and after hours and hours of research, I landed on a reservation at T-Gardens. I got a haircut from Lisa, who did an incredible job translating the request I had for her into the hairstyle of my dreams. Something I loved most about my experience here was the level of care and detail that went into this haircut — I was always asked to confirm the length of the cut, and she was so meticulous in making sure that the cut was even. She even took the time to dry my hair into waves. The value for the haircut price here is unbeatable!

I loved my haircut!! Super safe as they temperature test at the door and give you hand sanitizer as soon as you walk in. There’s an outdoor area to cut hair too. I have had Japanese straightening before at a different salon but at T-Garden it turned out so much better!! I had Mako as my stylist and she was simply divine. Mako was super gentle and was very patient with any questions I had. The message at the end almost put me to sleep. Please, check the website. Make sure you are happy with the prices of your stylist. I went in and booked a last minute appointment. I looked at the wrong prices. I ended up getting my hair cut my a senior stylist and he charged me $170 plus tip for a hair cut. No layers, no color, no style, nothing. Just a hair cut… which was too short for what I wanted. He kept cutting. I couldn’t believe it. Then I checked online… and noticed that was his price. I was really upset with the outcome. I was too nervous to speak up. I left upset.

Tatsuya took his time with my daughter and explained to me the aftercare. It is important to find someone that is reputable and knows what they are doing with such a in depth hair process. I went to get a haircut with my boyfriend yesterday and we’re really satisfied with the results. I got a haircut from Grace and my boyfriend got a haircut from Yuka and they made our hair exactly same as pictures that we showed them. Before going there, I wanted to find a good hair salon so i searched about all manhattan hair salons on google and i found T-gardens. They have so many good reviews and ratings so i decided to go there. Their shop is not that big but very cozy and nice. Everyone was very friendly and nice too so i felt very comfortable during my haircut and Grace was so professional and she also gave me a head massage during shampooing and a shoulder massage before starting haircut. It was very good too. My boyfriend said that it was the best haircut he has ever gotten. He tried many famous hair salons in manhattan but he said that this haircut was the best. We’re definitely going to visit there again next time. Thank you T-gardens :) ☺️

It was my first time trying this salon and I felt so safe getting my hair cut (covid times). When I get in they took my temperature, they have plastic in between each chair but there's only 2 hair stylist so they're like at different ends. They also offer if you like a haircut outside. They have a patio at the back of the salon.. plus everyone is properly wearing a mask. This place is also very welcoming and clean. Mako (stylist) cut my hair and I love it. Would definitely go back.

Mako did an EXCELLENT job on my hair. I went in intending to get a perm, but she gently let me know that the texture I wanted wouldn’t be achievable. I went with plan B instead and got my hair cut short. I have tried to go short with my hair several times and I always ended up looking like the little lad who loves berries and cream from that starburst commercial years ago, but Mako delivered. My hair looks better than it has in a very long time and I could not be happier. I will definitely be back!

I showed him a picture of a previous customer and told him what I liked about it, and he was able to make recommendations on what would suit my face. He is very knowledgeable and thoughtful in his work - my appointment went from 11am-2pm and he was very attentive throughout each step even though it ran into his lunchtime. I love the results and my hair looks just as healthy as it did before I got the treatment! My experience today (5 Mar 2021) has been amazing! I made my appointment online for Japanese Straightening with Tatsuya. I searched many places in Jersey to see where I can get this done and the one place I went to for a consultation told me they couldn’t because I needed to let me hair “grow more”. I didn’t want to just go anywhere so I finally found this spot in the City and I loved the results! It was definitely worth the drive and $$. My natural hair is a bit curly/wavy and medium long but I’m always straightening it and damaging it. That is why I decided to do this and Tatsuya did a great job, he knows what he is doing. My hair looks very healthy and feels so soft.

I got a haircut from Felix. I specifically chose him based on some of his other reviews, but I was quite disappointed in the end. He gave me a decent haircut, but it looked nothing like the picture I showed him and wasn't the style I was looking for. I wanted lots of layers, and asked multiple times throughout if he could add more layering. And he would just say "yeah sure" and then keep doing what he was doing. I really didn't feel listened to. The cut in the end was a cute, rounded "bob" style, I don't see any layers.. I now plan to go to another stylist to finish the job that he started. I won't go back here.

I usually come here for valayage highlights, regular hair die and root dye, and daily styling. Staffs are so welcoming and offer great hostility every time I come. I've been a customer at T-Gardens since it opened. The space is welcoming and convenient, but it's the service that makes me come back again and again. Min is terrific! Super professional and courteous. She always listens to what I want and advises when I don't know. I always add a deep conditioning treatment and/or head spa. It's totally worth it, especially when the weather gets cold and indoor heating wreaks havoc, and it's with high-quality hair products.

I booked an appointment with Lisa for a Japanese permanent straightening treatment. In short, I had a great experience and highly recommend this salon. Long version: I was looking into permanent straightening services and had reached out to a few salons in Manhattan. One place didn’t feel comfortable working with my hair type, another recommended an OXO treatment (which I think is a smoothing treatment not straightening). When I emailed with T-Gardens they responded very quickly. After sharing some photos and some hair history, they told me they could work with me although I might experience a little dryness. I asked for a senior stylist because I wanted someone with a lot of experience and was matched with Lisa for an appointment a week later. Some background: I wanted this treatment because I am lazy under the guise of deeply efficient. I’m all for team natural, curls and texture are beautiful, self-love as a WOC is important, etc. But y’all I have A LOT of difficult to manage, long, 2c/3a hair, a sensitive scalp, and a hectic lifestyle. I grew up in Dominican salons and I’ve tried braids and weave and Curly Girl and LOC and Drybar, and I basically settled on straightening my hair twice a week and occasionally doing wash and gos. Styling took me about 8 hours a week and all of that direct is just not great. I thought about it for a long time because I was worried about how permanent Japanese straightening is and the potential damage/upkeep, but honestly I was fed up and didn’t want to deal with my hair all the time. Anyway, I show up to the salon on a Wednesday afternoon. It’s very cute and everyone is very nice. There are plastic dividers between stations and everyone was wearing a mask. My temperature was taken and they took my sweater, giving me a salon cover/robe to wear. Lisa sat me in the chair, took a look at my hair, confirmed the cost, and then took me to the wash station. There are a lot of steps to this process but basically it’s wash>apply chemical>wash>blowdry and flatiron>trim>apply neutralizer>wash> blowdry. All in it took about 4.5 hours. Lisa was incredibly patient and really took her time with the flat ironing portion which is essential (it’s basically what sets the shape). She was also super gentle with my hair at every step and it looked great when she was done. I didn’t wash it for 2+ days like she said and have not tied it up (will cause dents apparently). When I finally did wash, my hair was super silky, needed minimal product and was incredibly straight just using my blowdryer on low without using a brush or anything. I had minimal shedding and my hair wasn’t dry or fried in anyway. The only weird thing was that it smelled a little “chemically” when it was wet but it went away as soon as it dried and I’m not worried about it. All in, I’m super happy with the results and I think it was a great purchase. I’ll definitely be coming back.

This was my second time coming to the salon, and my first time with Mako, the stylist. She was so kind and gentle, and feel like I will always make sure to book appointments with her! I felt very relaxed during my time there getting a digital perm, and with this being my fourth or fifth perm now, I really felt like this was the quickest and most successful one yet. I love this salon and always make a yearly trip to the city for an appointment!

I've only permed my hair once 2 years ago and wanted to perm it again for my big 3-0. I found this salon while researching and made an appointment with Mako after seeing her name pop up often. I showed a picture of the perm I got last time which was one curl at the end and Mako suggested a wavy style which would last longer. I took this suggestion and Mako proceed to cut my hair and start on the perm. Service was great and Mako took the hint that I was not a small talks kind of person so she just worked diligently on my hair and left me to do my thing while she did hers. Overall it took a shorter amount of time than I remembered but that is because Mako was focused on me only whereas at the other place the stylist was cutting another person's hair. It's too soon to tell whether I like this style more or the other and whether this will last longer but 5 stars for service.

Do not go here! I had Japanese straightening done by Felix. The very next day it became frizzy. He also cut my hair much shorter than I told him to. In the end they refunded my money but my hair is ruined. Way too overpriced. Service was rushed.

I came here for Japanese hair straightening (by train from Albany). The people are nice but the quality of service is bad- after the first appointment I still had curling in my hair (last time I got it from a different salon and my hair was perfectly straight). I told the stylist and she offered to redo the hair for free, so I booked another trip from Albany to NYC (at this point it is becoming a $1,500 job instead of $500) and she was very nice to try and fix. It is now three weeks later and my hair is curling AGAIN. What a waste of time and money. (Previously it lasted 6-8months before I saw curling from new hair growth). The people are so sweet but the quality is awful and I regret spending so much trying to make it right. Also, they give free gifts for 5 star reviews so please be mindful of the reviews you read. Don’t come here for Japanese hair straightening. :( (Review is edited after second appointment)

Lisa is an artist! I requested a natural, blended balayage. I have dark brown, straight fine hair. Her work exceeded my expectations. I was blown away! The staff at T-Gardens is professional and caring. They are passionate about hair and take care of you. I cannot recommend highly enough.

This is the best perm experience ever! And the result comes out fantastic too! I made appointment on line through their website with Tatsuya. He charges more than other stylist (350 for digital perm), and he double confirmed the price with me before he got started. I asked him "are you better?" He said "I am more experienced." It turned out he has turned the whole thing into art! The way he worked on our hair (cutting, putting on hair roll) was superb experience. The whole process only took less than 3 hours. The most efficient ever in my experience. Update: Went again to get my hair done for my birthday. The experience was still smooth, however the result is not as good as last time. It has been only less than 1 week and I lost almost all the curves. Not sure if I am going back any more.
