I got the most amazing deva cut from Cherie a few weeks ago! I have a mix of 3c and 4a curls and am usually really hesitant to let anyone touch them. Cherie instantly made me feel comfortable and was very thorough in asking exactly what I wanted out of the cut, which I really appreciated. Without losing much length she gave me a refreshed shape, and I couldn't be more thankful. She also let me know if I thought it needed any touch ups after I got home, she would happily fix it up. She gave me some great product recommendations and ended the appointment with a hug! she is truly amazing and I could not recommend her highly enough!

I have 3C/4A hair, and was very nervous about getting my hair reshaped. I decided pre-appointment that I wanted to do pretty much a big chop, and had Cherie for the appointment. Thank goodness I did. She made me feel so comfortable and at home, she listened to what I wanted and delivered. She cared for my hair, and was enthusiastic through and through. For those considering the Deva Curl thing: I paid the most I ever paid for a hair cut and over four months later, I hate it every day. The whole philosophy of it is to control your hair, which anyone who actually has curly hair knows is impossible. You end up with a helmet. Katie (I think that was her name) is a very nice person and I’m sure she’s good at cutting other types of hair, but the Deva Curl program is BS. Also their products are gross and super heavy if you have finer hair.

Anyone with curly/wavy hair knows we have to be careful with salons/stylists, and Image West is my go-to salon! My first Deva Cut was a few years back by Mim and most recently by Cherie. I really needed my hair freshened up and Cherie knew exactly what I was looking for. I have never had someone spend so much time on the details of my cut both before the wash and after the dry. She really took her time to cut individual curls, especially around my face, and gave me such a nice cut that looks good with the Deva method, but also works for my everyday look which is usually minimal effort lol. Cherie will definitely be my go-to whenever I am in town!

The prices (and selection) of products they carry is unmatched anywhere. I know how rare it is to find such a great stylist in a salon that is nice and welcoming to be in, because prior to becoming a client here, my search for finding someone to give me a great curly haircut sent me to hair salons and stylists across the city, so I have been to MANY different places. Image West is full of well-priced products for all types of hair, and all the staff are very knowledgeable about their inventory. They are always helpful, never pushy and there is never any pressure to buy. I have so many friends and colleagues that have switched to this salon over the years, after I brought them in just to talk with staff about their hair and check out their products. Mim is a phenomenal stylist and all-around delightful person. He is trained to cut curly hair, and it shows! Mim is skilled at listening and understanding your hair goals and concerns, and offering suggestions for how to achieve them or deal with "problems". One of the things I appreciate about him the most is that he offers explanations for all his suggestions, and he never pushes if you aren't feeling ready for a change. But when you are ready, he can suggest (and provide) a hair style that suits your hair, face and lifestyle. If you are interested in buying new products, he knows how to find ones that are tailored to your needs, but will never make you feel uncomfortable if you aren't interested. There is always coffee, water and tea on offer, and beautiful local art on the walls. He can carry great conversation if you are feeling chatty, or just let you relax while he does his magic. I have bumped into many curly-haired strangers and bonded when we discovered that Mim was our stylist. Mim cuts all types of hair (as my friends will attest) beautifully, and I almost don't want to post this review for fear that he will fill up :) I am so happy to finally have a haircut that I feel good about, and to learn how to take care of itweek between cuts. I have been getting a deva curl hair cut from Mim for the past year or so, and honestly I have never been happier with my hair natural in my entire life. The cut is so intuitive to your own curl pattern and face shape. He also really listens to length preference, provides really helpful styling tips and takes time listening to your hair story and needs. I also got a balayage treatment and was a bit nervous of colour matching to my skin tone but Mim chose the perfect colour just for my look and is so talented in his craft! He also is super hospitable, kind and caring and going to Image West for a haircut is always a lovely experience! :) My hair has never been healthier!! :)

I can actually proudly walk out of the salon feeling pretty (95% of my previous cuts elsewhere led me to put a hat on as soon as I left the salon). I really wanted to like my hair, and when I got my haircut I was trying to see what Steven meant to do so I didn't say anything then. It might be because of my hair texture/curls, but I have what is basically a mullet now. Thankfully I can just tie it up but I won't be returning. I paid $120 (+tip) but I could've cut it myself and not have a mullet/teenage boy with uneven hair. I gave it enough time to see if I'd grow to like it but really, it just makes me sad

She knew exactly what to do for my hair, talked me through different ideas for taking care of my curls and just had a great energy. (If it's helpful to know, my curl pattern is in the 3A-3B range).

Just like many others, I also sought out this salon for the Devacut method. I was booked with Cherie who has done so many of these cuts that there probably isn't a type of curly hair she hasn't seen or a question about curly hair she hasn't been asked. She was great, really walks you through everything and breaks down why she's doing what she's doing and what the intention is. Look, there are two things going into this cut you're going to need to be mindful of: 1) You're likely going to walk away having lost a noticeable amount of 'visual length' - my overall length didn't really budge, but she lightened the bottom quite a bit for shaping purposes and as a result it looks shorter. It's okay because your curly hair is actually going to have a natural style/flow to it and not just lay there dull-like so the trade off it going to be worth it. 2) You're going to need to throw some extra cash down on product if you want to keep up the style. Not a bad thing, but for a cut that's already $100 this might be an unexpected additional cost. I picked up two products and they both have made such a difference to my ability to upkeep the curl. I grew up with a mom who didn't like her own curl, so when it came to learning anything about mine I was on my own. This cut was a nice opportunity to learn and when I wear my hair curly it has a great shape to it now. However, when you straighten it, it WILL look different than you're used to as well. You can't cut for curly and not expect your straight look to not be effected as well.

I saw Cherie for my very first Devacut. The experience was fantastic - she patiently showed me, step-by-step, how to wash, condition and style my curls (2c/3a) - and the end result was amazing. I thought the back of my hair was pretty much straight, but apparently not! I washed and styled it myself last night, following her clear instructions, and while it doesn't look quite as good as when Cherie did it, it still looks 300% better than the frizzball I had before. Even if you don't think your hair is curly enough for a devacut, I recommend you go and see her, you might be surprised at how curly your hair comes out. Thanks Cherie!!

He was super accommodating and friendly and gave me some excellent tips of keeping my curls looking good. A few years ago, I got a haircut at this salon and I had a positive experience. Well, this time I had a terrible one with another stylist. I was ok with my Deva haircut but not with my highlights since it was done terribly: my roots were uncovered, part of my hair ended up orange and other parts were kind of yellow. At the end, I got a rainbow hair that was an absolute mess. When I asked for a refund I was told that I would have to pay for the products when I already paid almost CAD $400 for my haircut and highlights. Honestly, I would not recommend this place to anyone who cares about their hair.

I have “difficult” hair, translation, I have curly hair. My hair has been every hair stylists nightmare for a long time. No one could figure out why it’s one way when its wet and an other when dry. I went to a couple of “curly hair experts” With high expectations, but left underwhelmed. I left this salon for last because it was the farthest from my house. I'll let pictures speak for themselves. "After" pictures are of the day I got the cut but as someone has only seen frizzy, rough hair on my head, results were great. I feel my previous hairs were a little overloaded with protein (atleast that's why I think). I don't do color nor I use regular blowdrys/flat irons. No curling rods were used on my hair by the stylist. It was shampoo, conditioner, styler liquid and gel (to hold hairs). My hair stylist was Kim.

Katie, Mim and the Image West team are unmatched for curly hair, product selection/knowledge, and overall friendly service and vibe. As a 2B/C wavy curly girl, I grew up with so many bad triangle haircuts which are no longer thanks to Katie (and Mim who gave me my first curly cut). I’m working on using the curly girl method but even when I wasn’t CG, my results were amazing. On this last visit, I walked out with what Katie called “Victoria’s Secret hair” and was reminded how it’s worth every penny. The salon space itself can be cramped and is a bit dated, but I don’t care when I walk out this happy.

i have been there twice, first one to get highlights on my curly hair , and it was amazing, I went out very happy and with my curls prettier than ever! absolutely recommended! 5 stars! My second time was to buy their products for curly hair. there was 1 hair stylist doing her job with a client, but the door was closed saying " I am coming back in 30 min"...I spent 1 hour by car going there around 2 pm because the website doesn't mention anything about close hours during the day. I had to wait for 30 min till a lady with green hair arrived..we said hello and told her that we were waiting for her, but she didn't say hello or anything else. like we weren't there..finally we chose the products , she barely ask what we need and didn't cross any other word. Definitively i will try to look for my products in a different place, office hours should be respected , and if the cashier need to go out, the person inside should be able to attend public also. we spent only 2 mins inside, but we had to wait about 40 min extra to buy what I needed.

*ATTENTION ATTENTION* If you're going to go in for a Deva Curl Cut here, make sure they actually use Deva Curl products in your hair instead of the low-grade product they used on mine. In the middle of my wash/style, I noticed that Laia was using another product other than Deva Curl products and I asked her why. She made up some excuse saying that they use other products in the salon, depending on the day. So I looked it up on the spot and saw that this product was *half the cost* of Deva Curl products, and it turned out crusty and smelling horrible on my hair, so much so that I washed it out as soon as I got home. I noted upon payment that I wasn't going to pay the full price and (who I think was) the owner gave me 30% off, however begrudgingly. "Just tap your card," he said to me. Quite frankly, I would have paid the full $95 + tip but it wasn't even worth the $70.

I barely said anything to him and he somehow knew exactly what I wanted (needed). He gave me the perfect colour and the best cut I've ever had. It's been a few weeks since I have gotten my devacut but since , my curls have remained frizz free and I get compliments all the time. From the moment I walked in, Steven was super friendly and made me feel at ease. He asked me questions about what I want for my hair and also gave recommendations of what I might like. Before proceeding to cut my hair, he walked me through how he was going to cut it, how short it would be and if I was okay with what he would do. After the cut was over, he showed me how to style my hair and what products to use and didn’t sell me anything. As for covid safety, the staff were all wearing a mask and there was a plastic barrier between the cashier and myself when I was paying. While I had my haircut, I saw them sanitize the station after every customer left.

I got a curly haircut here back in late October with Stephen. I have 2b/2c wavy hair and I was struggling to make it work with Vancouver's rainy weather since I moved from Ontario. Genuinely the best curly haircut I've ever had. I've been to curly hair salons and regular salons and have never had my hair look as it did with Stephen. He was also incredibly calming and kind, I felt relaxed around him and like I could easily trust him. I went back a couple weeks later for highlights. This was my first time getting highlights too. Stephen hand painted them and took his time so they would work with my curl pattern and would grow out easily since I didn't want to maintain them. 2 months later they still look absolutely amazing and almost natural. As someone who has tried many curly hair stylists, I could not recommend this place more! I feel so good about my hair!
