This place was recommended to me by a friend, as I relocated here and needed somewhere and someone reasonable to cut my hair. I went and saw what's her name, she is super professional. She gave me a cut that I have never received so many compliments on before. I look forward to my next appointment again. The space is also nice, clean and tidy. Great location as well. No crazy pretension. I would also recommend Jocelyn if you're in need of a hairdresser ! And the best part, you can make appointments online.

had the absolute best cut and style of my life with chiaki, so i went online and rebooked with her for 4 weeks from now right away. the salon itself is super cool inside and out, really beautifully decorated. i haven’t had my hair professionally cut in over 4 years after a bad experience so i was nervous, and chiaki was the absolute best - she took the time to ask questions about my hair and understand what i was looking for, and i ended up with a cut exactly like the pictures i brought in but better. she was so lovely and very talented! everywhere i’ve gone today, people have complimented my hair. 110% recommend! :)

Wasted my couple hundreds of dollars here doing perm and haircut with the owner. I had to go back again cuz the perm was gone the day after. And after that still not good so I gave up. After 2-3months I decided to give it a last try by booking another haircut. It was a disaster never had a hair so bad. Today I paid much less at another salon with a junior stylist and it was fixed and so much better. Can’t believe why there are so many good review. Never gonna go back for sure. Totally waste of money.

Love how they remember little details from previous visits and provide head and shoulder massages. Has felt relatively safe during COVID.

The stylist cut my hair beautifully but I didn’t get exactly what I was looking for. He was very gentle, There was no pulling and tugging of hair I usually experience at salons, I nearly fell asleep with how soothing it was. I wanted to keep as much length as possible and I can see he strived for that. But see what I was aiming for, with layers and the After pic of what it really was. Would recommend the salon, but if the cut isn’t what you wanted, take the time to get it fixed!

I'm absolutely happy with Sayaka's magical work on my hair. She did beautiful and natural highlights/colouring, and I was so lucky to trust her vision! I showed her a couple of pictures of what I wanted to do. Sayaka gave me a couple of things to consider and made sure to bring the result as close to my references as possible. During colouring (which took close to 4 hours!!!), she was so kind and attentive, making sure I felt comfortable. And I'm in love with my new hair colour! I also had curtain bangs trimmed by her, and the result was top notch as well. The whole team at Techne is very welcoming! So happy I found a stylist I can trust. Thank you Sayaka!

That was the first time I went to a hairdresser after 2 year of trying to do it myself during quarantine. I didn't know what to expect and I had no specific requests. I just told Yuki "I don't like the way my hair is now. Can you take some volume out?" and only with this information he used all his skills to make it work. We had a great chat about his life in Japan and and how moving to Canada was a different experience. When it was over I was intrigued by the result. I didn't like it at that moment as it was too different from my standard hair style. But that's why it took me almost 2 months to write this review. After I understood what he did and tried new things on my hair, now I only have good hair days. It takes me almost no time to get ready and the shape is amazing. It was not a cut that showed up right away, but now I love it and I no longer use pony tails to hide it like before meeting Yuki. Thank you!

I asked for a lots of layers and the hair stylist literally just cut my hair in like two horizontal sections. And I kept explaining that's only two layers and not to go shorter at the top and I wanted layers throughout my hair and she kept saying she understood and just making the top layer shorter rather than actually listening until I started just full on sobbing. The owner (I assume. He may have just been a senior staffer) then came and tried to fix it, but it basically just meant cutting off more than half of my hair to even it out a bit. ... and then they charged me like $80 for it. I got 15% off I believe. But it's been over a year and my hair still hasnt grown out to how it was. I've never had a worse hair experience. I still hate my hair for it this long after they cut it and they effing charged me. Still so salty about how this entire situation was conducted. It wasnt only about what they did to my hair. But I literally was sobbing. No one listened to me. No one apologized. I wasnt asked if I needed a minute or different options to try and make it look better. And I got charged for a god awful hair cut.

I am very disappointed. After reading all the great reviews I decide to try it. But the shampoo was very dry, hair dryer was not good quality, the scissors was very dull, I can even hear the sound of cutting. The haircut is very old fashion, way too thin. My hair was in different length. This is the most expenesive hair cut, the price is 5 dollars more than other japanese hair salon. I am really douting the Google reviews. And the owner was not that nice.

I've passed by this salon many times and thought this was a regular neighbourhood spot. It definitely is not! The staff is very professional and welcoming, using the best products in the industry. They are very keen on COVID guidelines and keeps the salon impeccably clean. Rie was very pleasant and gave me the exact haircut I needed with a great product recommendation to keep the baby hair out of my face. The entire experience was 10/10 :) Highly recommended, even if you don't live in this area!

They just do whatever they want and don't listen to your goals for your hair. Took out so much volume without asking. They also default to "feminine" for women so if you're looking for anything remotely non-binary, go somewhere else.

Love!! Visited Riie for the first time and she nailed it! First is the before photo and the last few are the after. I wasn't sure at first because it was a bit dark with the toner but I absolutely love it now. I highly recommend her and the salon and this will now be my go to.

I've tried a couple highly reputable Japanese hair salons in downtown Vancouver and Richmond but nothing beats this one! :D Recommended it already to many of my friends.
