Followed Samantha over to Cowlick, a small and low key, friendly spot. Sam is probably one of the best colourists (if not the best) in the city. She can do incredible creative colours (over the years, she got me to a perfect Marilyn blonde, various shades of pastel, etc ) but also beautifully natural ones. Months ago she gave me a "lived in" colour (similar to a balayage but way more natural looking) and it's still going strong. When I go in, it's just for a trim and (maybe) a tone. She's often booked but totally worth the wait. Fun to chat with as well- our appointments always go by quickly.

Great service and great location. Queer- and trans-friendly. Pricing based on hair length, not gender of the person getting the cut. Both times I've been there they've had an offer for a free tub of conditioner if you check in there on Facebook, which is pretty awesome. Highly recommended.

Joshua is an artist and hair is his medium. I came in with absolute disaster hair and he worked with me, listening to my likes and dislikes before suggesting what he thought would work. The cut he gave me is impeccable, and works when I dry it naturally curly, as well as when I blow dry it straight. Joshua also has wonderfully inspired colour ideas. Superb experience.

I saw Josh for the first time today and he was lovely. I went in with a serious need of a good haircut and he gave me a great consultation and spent a lot of time shaping my fine hair. I love the results :) I also appreciate the advice he provided regarding my colour and offer to answer any other questions via his Instagram if they come up. Overall the salon had good vibez and didn't feel pretentious in any way, something I really look for in a salon. Will be back - thanks Josh!

I always go to see Josh for my hair, and recently had the honour of visiting him at Cowlick! Josh makes me feel like a princess with his magical hair colouring and styling skills! I wouldn’t dream of trusting my tresses to anyone else, especially after all the compliments I get on how beautiful my hair is!! This place is extremely dishonest about their pricing. The lighten and tone service on their website when booking states $200, but on the receipt when you check out it states the service is $250. I guess they assume their clientele won't know the difference if they sneak in to take an extra $50 (not including olaplex or tax here.) When I was being checked out, the stylist stated they wouldnt charge me for the extra hour, but at no point was I informed from the very beginning that they charge on an hourly basis here rather than just the service performed. There are much better salons at this price point in toronto that will be upfront with their pricing, come here if you want to spend nearly $400 and feel scammed and misled.

Lovely staff, however I don't think this is a salon for people with 'difficult' hair types, there is much better elsewhere. Nicole was great but I don't think she knew what to do with my thick, full hair. Two months later and it's noticable that the back was not cut evenly.

I had visited this salon three times so far and each time I left happy with my hair. Melissa is great at cutting curly/wavy hair to suit the cut you want and Lopsang has a lot of knowledge on how to tweak a haircut to work with your routine in the long run . The third time I had my hair done here, I was lucky enough to book a visit the morning after a home bleach fail. Franz was an absolute LIFESAVER. He was able to bleach and tone my front pieces to the colour I wanted AND dye the pieces I had overdone back to my natural hair colour. Needless to say, I had narrowly escaped showing up to work with an embarrassing dye job thanks to him and the colour was exactly what I wanted. Definitely looking forward to my next visit!

I love Cowlick!!! The staff and the atmosphere is all around good vibes!! Of course I have to mention the talented hairstylists and colourists on site. I’ve been seeing Francis since I was 19!! (full disclosure of my age-for 25 years haha) He’s always been creative with my hair. I’ve gone from all colours of the rainbow to black, to brown with blonde/caramel highlights. You name it he’s been able to do it to my hair. (Keep in mind I’m Asian too so I have tons of hair and also very coarse in texture.) Everything I ask for he does and does well. I’ll never go anywhere else!!!

Unfortunately, intermediate stylist Lopsang did not give me a successful cut. I feel the photos speak for themselves. This is what I looked like immediately out of the chair! (Yes, the white stuff is wet, un-incorporated mousse.) Lopsang is not very familiar with the unique needs of curly hair and is a little mean! The unflattering cut, much shorter than the “shaping” he implied, was cut using feathered layers and a comb (big curly no-no!) and has completely destroyed my natural curl pattern. Please check the closeup for the absolutely bizarre state of my ends….? Wish I hadn’t paid.

I had the pleasure of having my hair done by Josh for the first time last week. I sought out his expertise after receiving a bad hair cut and colour elsewhere. Josh was able to soften the choppy, harsh cut I received. He also corrected my chunky, thick highlights and turned them into the subtle look I was originally hoping for (see before/after photos below). Outside of his skillset as a stylist, Josh was a wonderful person to receive services from. He created a safe, comfortable environment and treated me so gently and respectfully (e.g. repeatedly asking if I was comfortable, gently moving hairs out of my face, taking his time to give a scalp massage, checking in about water temperature, etc.). I trusted him fully and enjoyed having the opportunity to chat with him during my appointment. I would highly recommend Josh as a stylist and will be returning to him in the future!

I Just got home from my first appointment with Melissa at Cowlick… let me tell you… she did an amazing job. I went from long hair to a super cute face framing bob with lots of movement. I am really disappointed with my experience here. My stylist, Lopsang, was pretty negative about my natural hair type (long, thick, straight) and told me I should consider bleaching it to “wreck it a bit.” He cut my hair dry and did not bother to style it or wash it after which I was looking forward to beforehand. The whole thing felt rushed and I didn’t feel listened to at all. I really wanted to like this place since it is more affordable than other salons in the city but I don’t think I will be returning.

I have been having my curly wavy hair done by Lopsang for several years, including colour and hi lites. He has always done an amazing job, super knowledgeable on hair texture, knows when he can’t perform the impossible despite clients not liking the truth or being able to accept. He explains the pros and cons of any request which I appreciate. I have been going weekly to Salons for many years so well experienced in hairdressers. I would recommend Lopsang highly.
