I have had a short somewhat androgynous hairstyle for over a year. I have a hairstylist I see regularly but is not available for a while. I thought trying a barber shop would be the best place to go because they have the most practice with my type of hair. I talked to the man who answered the phone and he refused to give me an appointment on the sole basis I am a woman! I pointed out to him that the haircut is the same no matter what gender. He stated he trained in cutting men's hair and will refuse to cut a woman's hair. I plan to file a human rights complaint. It is discrimination and unacceptable.
