Easily the nicest salon space in the city. And that doesn't even include the sink pillows. How has it taken so long for salons to figure out sink pillows. SINK PILLOWS! Genius.

I had a great time at this salon, my first good experience with a salon in Ottawa and I will now be a regular. I am mixed race and have very curly hair naturally. That being said, it is easy to brush and can be straightened silky smooth with patience, but I find most hairstylists to be intimidated by it. I first heard of them at a local festival where they were braiding hair for free. I was served by the owner and we started chatting about my hair texture and how I normally return to my hometown for cuts. She invited me to check out their salon which I did. I called and after explaining my hair type and what I was looking for, was booked into a free meet and greet with a stylist who the receptionist felt would match best with me. A few weeks later I was booked in for balayage and a cut. The service was excellent, I receive numerous comments on the cut and colour weekly. Not only that but my stylist Gillian was friendly, professional, patient and keen to try new things. I felt I could trust her judgement and allowed her to decide many elements of the style on her own. All that to say, I can’t wait to go back. The salon is clean, the styles that people walk out with are amazing, the stylists are friendly and interesting. It is pricey but a good salon is priceless.

I'm giving two stars because the staff seemed quite nice. That said, I was unhappy with my cut. There were issues I only noticed when I got home. I wrote to the owner and was told I could go back to the same stylist to discuss what was wrong and have it fixed. I left after having it fixed with a strange chunk missing from the back of the cut. My bad for not asking to see the back before I left ... luckily there are some long pieces that hide it for the most part. I'm more disappointed nobody came to greet me when I came to have my hair fixed, other than the original stylist. I'm surprised a manager wouldn't want to see why a client is coming back unsatisfied and wouldn't come do a quick check before the client leaves for the second time. I won't go back and wouldn't recommend this salon to friends.

My first time here, I booked with an intermediate stylist for a cut and colour. I explained on the phone while booking that I wanted to go a couple of shades lighter. The receptionist did not book enough time for me with the stylist I requested, so I was placed with a junior stylist. She did not know what she was doing! She kept asking nearby stylists for advice. In the end, my hair came out banded (stripy), the colour didn’t last long, and I was there from 8am-2pm! My entire day was lost, and this was not cheap either! I think there are some talented stylists at this studio, but make sure you book and pay for a more senior stylist! And if the time quoted by reception seems too short for the service requested, mention it!

I never complain about an establishment but this time I am furious! Went in for a consultation that should have been 15 minutes but waited an hour because the stylist was behind schedule. Booked for balayage and cut next next week but had to reschedule due to unfortunate event that happened (well within 24 hours notice). Rescheduled but then to find out the day of the appointment that the stylist was still sick. If you knew your stylist was still sick LET ME KNOW WITHIN 24HRS in advance, so I can go to work and not take the day off! The scheduling system is ridiculous and they are extremely unprofessional! Tried to reschedule again, but I was just furious that I had to wait two more weeks plus more. Tried another person but just the same thing! Done dealing with their unprofessionism!

I am so pleased with my haircut! Skye was professional and pleasant. She answered all my questions, took lots of time to make adjustments to make sure my haircut was as personalized as possible. I would definitely come back to this salon. The price of the haircut ended up being a little more expensive than I was expecting. I'm not sure about salon etiquette but I would probably ask to see, or at least be told what services I was being charged for next time. I'm sticking to 5 stars though because I am so happy with the cut!

As a guy I usually don't go to salons for barber cuts and beard trims but I'm glad I came here this time. Tamara was friendly and professional. Gave me an awesome barber cut and hot towel shave. Takes into account your hair growth patterns and hair type. Best cut and beard trim I've ever had!!!

I have always found Jet Black's atmosphere to be unfriendly. I have had a few appointments and have not once been greeted by the owners. Instead, they look up from the desk (or their chair in the waiting area), make eye contact with me, and then continue on with their conversation. I've always found it rude; customers pay a lot of money to have their hair done at Jet Black and the least the owners could do is make a person feel welcome. I was also made uncomfortable by the art they chose to exhibit in their salon the last time I was in. I would think that most women want to spend their Saturday at the hair salon looking at lovely things; instead, I walked in to find photographs of an abusive relationship adorning the walls. An odd choice...especially considering much of their clientele is made up of women...I felt sorry for anyone who might be triggered by such visuals. I won't be back.

I went to Jet Black earlier this week to get my hair coloured for the very first time. I requested a burgundy colour and Ilona did a fantastic job. My hair feels healthy and I love the colour, and have gotten lots of compliments on it. Kat also gave me a haircut to freshen up my layers and she did an awesome job as well. I honestly never write reviews but this salon was NOTHING short of amazing. Another salon had messed up my hair and I had always heard great things about Jet Black, so I came here in hopes of them fixing it. Kat was the colourist that assisted me and I can say I have never loved the colour of my hair so much. She did what she could to salvage to my hair and the damage from the bleach and was so informative of what she was doing. I am a very picky customer so for me to be this satisfied is very rare. Staff is amazing overall, professionalism is unbelievable. Can't wait to come back!

I am highly impressed. The salon space is beautiful and modern, yet the atmosphere is still really comfortable -- it's a high-fashion salon, but doesn't have that haughty feeling that so many salons of its kind tend to have. Ilona is one of the best stylists in the city, if not the country, and I would highly recommend Jet Black to anyone for cut, style or colour. Since the salon has opened in early October, I have been there twice, once for a cut and the second time for an updo. Both were perfect. And like other reviewers have said, the headrests at the wash stations are the most comfortable I have experienced.

I totally adore my hair stylist Gillian. Not only because she's exceptionally talented, but she is also so kind. She always listens to my opinion and delivers quality results. The whole team at Jet Black are dedicated to a good customer experience. Most recently, I had gone swimming in a salt water pool and my blond hair turned green! I couldn't believe it. I connect with Gillian and asked for help. Within an hour the receptionist at Jet Black Hair & Studio called me with an appointment with another stylist who had room right away. It was a great experience and my hair is no longer green. I fully and wholeheartedly recommend this hair salon.. Give a try! You won't be disappointed.

If I would've reviewed Jet Black the day I got my hair done I would've given an amazing review. Service was amazing my cut was fabulous. The only reason I am only giving 2 stars is because my hair colour has washed out after 1 wash. When you are paying as much as you are, you would hope your hair colour lasts longer than a box dye. I would recommend that you get your hair cut here but not coloured.

I had an appointment at Jet Black today with Gillian. She understood exactly what I was looking for! I'm growing my undercut and wanted a transition cut that would help me grow the sides and still look stylish. My hair looks AMAZING! Gillian gave me great styling tips and ideas on how the cut could be styled now, and in the months to come as the hair grows. The salon is nice and spacious. I was offered coffee and was treated to a head massage. The staff was friendly and courteous. I definitively recommend Jet Black !

Went to the salon for the first time to get my hairs dyed. Mine was dark Asian hair and I wanted to achieve light brown color WITHOUT bleaching it because I had lost lots of hairs by bleaching too much in the past and I didn't want to lose any more hairs. My stylist Savanna did an excellent job. I showed her a picture of the color I wanted and she dyed my hair literally the exact same color. Definitely going back to touch up my roots next time.

I have been seeing Erin at Jet Black since April of this year and I had had a fantastic experience. I have tried many, many salons in Ottawa, including the top most expensive ones, and Jet Black is the best. I like Erin because I can communicate openly with her and she's always willing to listen and work with me. And of course she provides an amazing cut. I have been growing out a pixie cut for the past few months and she's helped me maintain the shape and style along the way, so I never feel like I have awkward "growing out" hair. On top of that, the whole staff at the salon is very friendly and I love that I can book appointments online. Thank you Erin & Jet Black!

I came in for an ombré and left with orange hair. It looked horrible. I had never dyed my black hair before and did not know what to expect at all. Now that I've had my hair corrected and in speaking with other hairstylists, I now know that Leslie did not do my hair properly. Rather, she took short cuts on my hair to get me out of the salon as fast as possible. She did not use foil, which you need to do on hair as dark as mine, she used toner on my hair while my head was in the sink so she missed a large portion of my hair. My appointment was booked after an initial consultation so Leslie knew what my hair was like before my actual appointment. The time was booked for an ombré cut and style with extra time, but she told me she did not have time for the cut part as she was blow-drying my hair. I was charged for the cut anyway. $320 dollars later, I had a head full of orange hair. This salon may be fine for non-Asian clientele, but from how they treated my hair, I would absolutely NOT recommend this place for Asian hair or hair that may need some extra time and attention.

I was interested in having keratin straightening and saw that JettBlack hair offered the KeraSpa treatment on their website- I did a bunch of research on this system and booked a consultation. I took time our of my day to go to the salon for an in person consultation and the person I met was unsure about what the new treatment is called (they do not actually offer KeraSpa treatment anymore) – how much it is etc. If you offer a service you need to be knowledgeable and be able to answer questions about it without hesitation. I do not feel that this salon is confident in the keratin service it is offering at this time.The whole interaction was not acceptable considering 350 dollars (confirmed later after I sent another email inquiring about it - all interaction/questions have to be instigated and driven by me) is a lot of money and one expects a certain level of professionalism and expertise. I am very disappointed with the whole interaction. Client experience leaves a lot to be desired.

Jet Black was recommended by a number of colleagues with great hair. I was very pleased to see the measures the salon had in place to address COVID. I saw Gillian, and even though I didn't have a cut in mind other than 'short', Gillian listened to my hair challenges and gave me a great cut that allows me to wear my hair curly or straight. She also showed me how use a straight iron for beachy waves. Definitely returning to Gillian and Jet Black for my next cut.

I decided to give Jetblack 2 stars. I thought that they were friendly and treated you fairly well for the most part.(eg. Offering you drinks etc) However I was most definitely not satisfied with their quality. My hair had turned out to a colour far from what I was expecting and which is completely normal everyone makes mistakes. The thing that I had a problem with however is that when I came back in to get my hair corrected they refused to give me a refund. My hair is in horrible shape and I had to get at least 5 inches taken off, I'm sure for anyone growing their hair out that's fairly devestating. I was also unimpressed that they couldn't change the colour of my hair but instead insisted on correcting it to what I had originally wanted. The colour afterwords turned decently close to what I wanted. But My hair is severely damaged and continually comes out in clumps and I was still refused a refund. I cannot brush my hair or it rips from my scalp. I was also disappointed at the fact that I will not be able to dye my hair for quite some time because it was so badly damaged. Overall, I thought they were a friendly business but I was displeased because my hair was butchered and I was still refused a refund.

WOW! I’d give this place 10 stars if I could. The staff here are friendly and approachable. The space itself is clean, modern and stylish. I loved all the plants. My hair was long, without personality and in desperate need of some serious help. I showed a couple photos to Leila and she went into depth about what I was looking for; including if I was a “get up and go” kind of person or if I wanted to put more time into it every day. This was much appreciated!!! The amount of attention to detail that went into my hair was incredible and I feel transformed. Thank you so so much for breathing life into my look. I had a horrible experience here. I just have to say this place is not black people friendly. My hair is 3b/3c texture, curly and thick but easy to blow dry. When I got there, the hair dresser named Leslie had be sit in the chair and comb out my own hair; I felt so humiliated. One of the assistance came by and I asked her if it's normal of clients to brush their own hair and she said no. To be honest, I was so shocked and didn't know how to react so I just proceeded. I will never go there again. I wished I walked out on the spot. Shame on you.
