My partner and I switched hair salons about a year ago and have loved our experience with these guys from Day 1. First off, we got a discount on our first visit because a friend recommended them to us (so instead of paying $35 for a cut I paid $12 or something), so it felt like they trusted their stylists and services so much that they were able to offer first visits at a discounted price knowing that clients would return. And we did. Secondly, we have been happy with every stylist that has cut our hair there, but one in particular stood out the most and really gave us the experience we now looking o forward to every month or two. Elyse-Marie knows exactly what we like, takes an appropriate amount of time to complete our cut, and one of my favourite selling points is that THEY CHARGE BASED ON HAIR LENGTH, NOT GENDER! I end up paying $35 for a short cut that my former salon would charge $70 for. At the end of my last visit to the former salon, they tried to charge me $98 for my usual cut ($30 more than usual). When I asked why they couldn't give me a straight answer, so I paid and never looked back. Hair Junkie cares about their clients, about their community, about their staff... I can't say enough good things about them! LADIES if you've got short hair and are looking for FAIR PRICING and quality stylists, I'd visit these guys any day of the week, hands down!

This is the third salon I've been to get a flattering cut for my wavy/curly hair and this is the first time I actually love what I got. Midg did an excellent job! They fully considered what I wanted (i.e. maintaining length) and gave me lots of advice and tips on how to style and take care of my hair. What I found most amazing was the fact that it’s a very crazy time right now (with a lockdown happening again in a few days), the salon working crazy hours right now and still, the service was so incredibly kind and attentive. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! Last Saturday I went to Hair Junkie and I had a haircut with a “professional” called Grace and she simply did something completely different from what I had asked and my hair ended up being cut ten centimeters shorter than the originally planned and with a completely different hairstyle than the one I had asked. The manager said there was “miscommunication” but I showed the professional a picture of what I wanted twice and I was very clear about not cutting it shorter than shoulder-length. I complained and they offered me a free haircut, they might be kidding me. My hair is too short I’ll only be able to have a haircut again in six months.

I had the best experience getting my haircut with Midg! I was not sure what to expect when I showed them the reference photos, but I was surprised at how accurately they replicated what I wanted. Midg made sure I was comfortable the entire time, and took the time to explain what they were doing at each step of cutting my hair. Over 500$ later for a balayage/ 3 minute hair cut... quoted a different price range when I called in. Very saddened and feel taken advantage of (still do). Owner is kind but the prices make no sense - p.s. 120$/hr for balayage - other great balayage usually goes for 250-300$ max. Including a cut.

262 dollars for a color! I didn't have time for a cut and walked out with wet hair. It didn't match the extension I brought in. Too expensive for the service I received. Very disappointed. I asked for my (already blonde hair) to be turned white and 6 hours and 400$ later, I'm still a little blonde. People are very nice but I had to ask them to redo my hair because it didn't turn as good as I expected. The result is still good but it is much much more expensive than anything I've known before and it was definitely not worth the price and all these hours. Never going back.

Honestly I can’t imagine going anywhere else in Ottawa to get my hair cut. I always walk away loving my hair and feeling happy that I went. I have been here twice to get a haircut and a luxury kerastase treatment and so far everything has been great. The staff is nice and friendly. Also they seem well prepared for their job, every time I go home with I really soft and pretty hair. They also sell the products they use, so you can keep taking care of your hair at home. Have spent the last 48 hours playing telephone tag to this business on an issue that happened Wednesday night and has yet to be resolved. Went in for a trim and balayage to be done to my hair and left with 6 inches taken off my length, no balayage and not even a mirror held up from the back to show the final result. Spent 170$ (before tax) and when asked to speak to the owner he was "unavailable" and they would relay the message to him (two days later, was never mentioned until I walked in after 48 hours of back-and-forth). First conversation said they could make my next $30 toner visit free, I said no. Then they offered a haircut, to which I find incredibly insulting when I lost the majority of my hair that took me over a year and a half to grow. Then today after busing to their business after work I was told I could receive free highlights (on hair that doesn't even reach my shoudlers) again, no thank you. I said today, there, crying in front of the front desk, I would like a refund because my trust has been broken with this salon and told they did not have authority to do so. I just received a call back and was told my account will be credited, but tell me who would want to return to a business where you had a consultation and the appointment saying you did NOT want a big change in length, and left completely disappointed to the point my hair has not been shown at all since the appointment. Even children in my care noticed the change and asked where my hair went and I had to stop myself from crying again. I am absolutely appalled by the way I am being treated as a client and someone who spent hours commuting, going to a consultation and hours in the chair at the appointment to be left with not an ounce of what I had asked for in the first place. Cut my girlfriends hair and she provided many photos of the style she would like which was basically just giving her nice bangs with a light trim. The hairdresser gave her bangs but the entire hair cut is uneven. Bangs are multiple lengths across and the back is slanted severely. Wasn't her normal hair dresser which does an amazing job but I didn't expect this new one to be this bad.

I wanted to go here for a cut and colour after seeing the positive reviews. I called and told the person on the phone that I wanted a cut and colour, and they were incredibly curt and irritable. I'd say something like "I want a cut" and they would reply "Well what KIND of cut? What does your hair even LOOK like right now?!" It felt incredibly uncomfortable. They then said that I should email them pictures of my hair so that they could know how long it would take, and if they would be able to fit me in in time for an event 6 weeks later. I emailed them right away, but didn't receive any response for about two weeks. Since I didn't hear from them for so long, I got my hair done somewhere else. After two weeks they finally got back to me with an appointment date. I informed them that because I didn't hear back I made other arrangements, and received a curt email in response that essentially said "well we did just send you an appointment, but sorry for the miscommunication." I was on the fence about going here at all, since I believe using a term used to belittle people with addiction issues in the name of your business is at least in bad taste, if not outright offensive, but the fact that everyone I spoke to was rude and curt with me, I will not be recommending them in the future. It's a shame because it looks like they do decent work, it just wasn't worth the nasty attitudes from everyone.

I'll start off with the salon itself was very clean and they seem to have covid protocols put in place correctly, however that's where my positive experience ended. The cut itself took over 30 minutes for a simple trim (take off 1 inch). And during the whole cut I had to listen to another stylist (very loudly I might add) sales pitch the poor girl in the next seat on every other product they sold. The Stylist kept going over the same pieces of hair over and over and over, unnecessarily. And then the blowdrying took just 45 minutes. FORTY FIVE MINUTES. Blow drying 20 strands of hair at a time does not seem very efficient to me, it seemed as if the stylist had zoned out and was just going at whatever pace she wanted. On top of that, I asked for layers and she only put very little in the back which I didn't notice until after my hair was dry and after over an hour and half of being there I really didn't want to have to stay for her to correct it. I would not go back.

Incredible. From start to finish, the whole process was 10/10. I reached out to the colourist, Midg, on IG and they helped me set up the appointment and really listened to what I wanted and set a realistic timeline for the transition. The picture here is from dark brown with heavy cherry lowlights to Platinum & Grey Balayage in one appointment! The strategically placed foils really extenuate my curls. The placement is so complimentary that it looks like all over colour. I’m so impressed with time and patience Midg used on my appointment with a “low & slow” developer to minimize damage to my curl pattern. Midg is trained on the diva curl methods so curly/wavy girls, listen up! This is the place for you! I am OBSESSED ????????. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Great service and great salon. I've been going to Hair junkie for my cuts for a few years now, and as long as I'm in Ottawa I don't think I'll go anywhere else. They offer the best combination of service, expertise and affordability that I've found anywhere. I've never left dissatisfied with either my haircut/style, or the overall experience. Plus, how can a hair styling experience that begins with the offer of a cup or tea or a glass of wine not be enjoyable? The only thing is, you have to have cash for a tip, since leaving a tip through the debit machine isn't an option.

I have dry curly hair and have experienced a couple of disasters at other hair salons. I specifically asked for a stylist at Hair Junkie who knew curly hair, and was not disappointed. I left with a great cut and a nice purple streak in my grey hair. My stylist gave me lots of great tips about caring for my hair. All of the staff were polite and professional. The salon is very clean and follows all COVID protocols. I highly recommend it!

I went to this salon in early march just to get the underneath of my hair dyed pink. My experience in the salon was great however, after the salon I began having issues. Where my hair was dyed, I have seen significant breakage and damage on my hair and this has never happened to me before. I have dyed my hair numerous times at multiple salons and never had this issue. Now, the hair that was dyed has broken off and is way shorter than the rest of my hair. I reached out the hair junkie team in an email following this and my email was never responded to. Sooo disappointed with my experience here and how much money I spent just to have my hair fall out.

I love Hair Junkie - when I moved here in 2015 one of the first things I did was find a place to get my hair done. I did tons of research and ended up at Hair Junkie and never looked back... I lucked in by choosing Liz as my stylist and have never regretted that decision. By this point going in for a cut with Liz feels more like sitting down to catch up with an old friend and she ALWAYS rocks my hair. Although I have not had the fortune of going with anyone else at the salon, I see the beautiful results of their work and happy customers every single time I go in. I even converted my fiancé when we first started dating, who was a low maintenance guy who never cared where he got his hair cut - but once he went to Hair Junkie he was “hooked!” He says their scalp massage, and just that little extra bit of star treatment keeps him coming back and paying more than he did in the past, which consisted of him going to “random” barbers and quick cut places. Here is a photo of my latest hair, balayage with Liz, who is obviously helping me to start off 2020 with a fresh look and gorgeous colour! Liz also always listens with her whole heart and seems to plan/map out my style at least a year in advance. She seems to know when I will be “ready” for certain changes, and never pushes outside of my comfort zone. She takes a gradual, rational approach and will never do something to my hair that she knows would not look good. She’s honest about how she can make something work for you personally - teaching you about your hair along the way. You should never expect to bring in a photo from Instagram or Pinterest and have them replicate it “exactly.” The process is a collaboration between you and a stylist who knows you. They treat you like family and if their happy customer base is not enough, the proof is in the pudding - come try for yourself. Book in advance and expect to build a relationship with these amazing humans.

So I was very hesitant about writing a review because usually I don't like to complain. But what they did to my hair hasn't grown on me and for the price I paid, I think this overdue. So almost 2 weeks ago I went in after the stylist I originally wanted cancelled last minute on me. So I had to call them back and asked them for a solution since they didn't offer me one. They gave me another person for the same week. I told her I wanted blonde balayage and curtain bangs. When she went to work on my hair, I immediately noticed she wasn't doing balayage but regular foil highlights since that's what I've been getting done on my hair for over a decade. But, I didn't say anything. Then when she went to cut my bangs, she just cut them straight across, something I could've done myself. She did not do curtain bangs. All this came up to almost $450. I paid that much for something I didn't ask for. My receipt says that I paid for balayage but I got brassy highlights! I've been dyeing my hair blonde for over 10 years and never had such brassy hair. She clearly rushed the whole process. I'm very unsatisfied with my experience here and will not be coming back unless I'm guaranteed the stylist I like. If I'm going to throw $450 down the drain, I better make sure I like my hair 110%. Anyway, moral of the story, just be patient and wait for the stylist you know and trust.

Hair junkie is my go to for color corrections and major style changes. I credit them with saving my hair after a brutal home color for Halloween that went terribly wrong. And have never left hair junkie without being extremely satisfied. I have never been one to commit to one stylist. I am impatient and flost around several salons to get a same day appointment. Today liz converted me to a dedicated client. She was amazing and clearly an expect in her field. Took the time to listen to and understand my struggles with hair color. She set out a plan to get my hair the color I wanted and gave me several product suggestions that should be able to significantly increase the time between coloring. She was fantastic to talk to pleasantly engaging and friendly. Sometimes the small talk I have with stylists can be generic and at times annoying. Liz was fantastic. If she had of had more time i would have added a blow dry to continue our conversation. The salon itself is spacious, always spotless, and quite modern. I've always felt welcomed. And have never felt pressured to buy a product or add a service. When discussions turned to products it has always felt like advice not a pitch for an add on which is incredibly refreshing. The new reward program is the icing on this fantastic cake!!! I will be making an appointment for a cut soon!!!

I've been going to Hair Junkie since it opened at its current location (13 years ago?) and I am always extraordinarily happy with my hair and the experience. The atmosphere is very warm, with the staff welcoming you as a good friend at each visit. They spoil you, with drinks, snacks on some evenings, and the most amazing scalp massages. They have taken the needed COVID measures, so the drinks had to stop, but the scalp massages have only gotten better. My husband and I see Juliana, whose kindness and positivity is only outweighed by her incredible talent. I've gone to many hair salons before my husband introduced me to HJ and none of them come close to comparing.

Having grown my hair a lot over the pandemic, I need some shaping and styling which Ashley did; I am back on track! The place is spotless and they definitely are adhering (and then some) to all of the COVID protocols and safety measures. They are over emphatic on confirming appointments largely due to the numerous no-shows and last minute cancellations. Bring cash for tips as you can't tack in on to your credit card. A major nuisance but understandable.

I went in a couple of days ago and had colouring and a cut done I spent over 350$ and left with something I wasn't very happy with. Most of my colour turned out great but I will have to fix a lot of it myself. For the price I paid I'm disappointed in the result. My stylist was very friendly but I feel that she did not listen closely enough to what I wanted and now I will have to spend more money and damage more of my hair to achieve the look I wanted. I would not recommend this place if you have a complex style in mind. It's a horrible feeling when you go in expecting to come out feeling amazing and leave disappointed.

Best hair cut I have ever had. I may have to travel the four hours back to ottawa to get my hair done by Brigitte again. Exactly what I wanted, exactly like the picture, and I did the feel rushed at all. She took her time and ended the hair cut with a great scalp massage with peppermint oils. And they had a designer in to give the place a face-lift. Definitely worth it.

I had a fabulous experience at Hair Junkie and will for sure return. I chose to go to Midge because I have curly hair and I saw they have completed curly hair training. Midge was fantastic. They listened to me and really took the time to talk through what I wanted and discuss what would work with my hair. They were very friendly and fun to chat with. They were also very well informed about what types of products and care routine would benefit my hair type, taking into account the fact that I spend minimal time styling my hair ;) I would recommend Midge to anyone, especially if you want a safe, creative and relaxed experience. Originally when I looked at HairJunkie’s Instagram page, I was a little hesitant because most pics I saw featured elaborate hair colours or long straight/smooth haircuts. I didn’t see a lot of curly or textured hair, but I liked the gender-neutral prices and the fact that Midge had taken curly hair training so decided to give it a try. Happy that I did. The salon itself was really nice, spacious, clean and following all COVID protocols.

I have long curly hair and I am selective when it comes to choosing a hair stylist. Had a hair cut with Grace today and absolutely loved the experience and result. Grace is very professional and easy to talk to, she listens, asks questions, and ensured we were both on same page before starting. She cut my hair dry then washed it and styled it. I had a good experience (she is also sweet and fun to chat with) and was happy with the result. Recommend it and definitely going back!

I have to say I will never go anywhere else again. -hair cut was the best Ive ever recieved -service was extremely good -staff is very friendly -considering it looks and feels like an upscale salon, prices were fair. After I styled my hair on my own, it looked just as nice as the day the hairdresser had done it. I believe her name is Leah. I was very particular about what I wanted, she did exactly that. Extremely good experience. Oh and head/neck massage to die for.

so, i don't ever write google reviews, but i felt compelled to after getting my hair done at this incredible salon. the person at the front desk was very kind and offered me a beverage when i stepped in. the atmosphere of the salon itself is wonderful - bright, spacious, trendy. but what made this visit so great was my stylist! liz was clearly extremely experienced - she cut *exactly* to what i wanted! i usually get very cold feet going to salons because it's extremely rare that i come out feeling 100% about my cut, but i gotta tell you... it's like she read my mind. that girl is a magician.

This salon is amazing! I recently had part of a brain tumour removed and Liz gave me back my hair! Before going I had a bad scar that I was self conscious about and my hair was very damaged looking and feeling. She was very understanding, sensitive and empathetic to my situation, which meant the world to me. Liz helped me feel like a women again and helped me love my hair again.
