I had the best experience. The teacher I believe her name was Latisha. I trusted her to cut my hair, and she did more than reach my expectations.
Hi. My name is Andrew Barczak, I live in New York. I came to Canada on a business trip. While here, I came upon Avola College of Hairstyling and Easthetics , where I got my hair cut done. People there were very professional, amazingly nice and they fulfilled all my expectations. Looking forward to came back. Thank you Avola College.
I came to Avola for a colour service. Mikki has done my hair more than once now, and has always done a great job. I recommend Mikki to anyone who wants to make a drastic colour change. Great service and super affordable. Yeet.
I have gotten my hair cut here multiple times and just got my colour done. The prices here are super reasonable as long as you're okay with a student hairdresser doing your hair. I was very happy with the results. Thanks to the student that did it and Miss Luiza for helping her as I could tell the student was a bit nervous at first. I will be sure to come back soon!
I need to warn everyone to stay far from Avola college Of Hairstyling And Esthetics, I never left a review since the matter is still into trying to get compensation for the physical and mental damages this place and their staff created me. This place is dangerous and I warn everyone to stay away from this business, I still have a permanent scar left from a chemical peel from over 5 years ago, when they left the student with no supervision and I got burnt with a second degree burn( confirmed by hospital) on my face and that is still visible today. The worst is that the college didn’t even agreed to give me the treatment money back and told me that I should know what I have been signing as a waiver, when at that time I was still just moving to the city and did speak very little English. They never acknowledged their fault and their ethique is 0, they didn’t not even felt bad or apologized considering that I have a permanent scar and all the pain I endured. I would pots a picture but the burn were partially infected and the scabbing looked so bad that I would scare everyone, please star away for your safety. I would have not written a review if they had at least accepted their fault but they completely denied and treated me like an object that had signed a waiver knowing I was risking permanent damages in my face! I was young, scared and not even knowing I could do something and they had no empathy for one second! STAY AWAY !!!!
I had such a great experience here, all of the staff/students were super friendly and I got a perm that I'm so happy with!
SO RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. VERY DISAPPOINTED.They are so unprofessional and rude in the way they talk to their clients, besides the lady on the counter doesn't know the appointments and have no clue about the schedule. I was told that they take no appointments on weekends first comes first served i went at 12pm the lady on the couter told me they will go on break and will resume at 1:30 so i told I'll go and come back on time, when i went back theere was another lady who was unexpectedly rude and she was like it won't happen today!!!! When i told her we came from far and i have no other time she was even more rude and told me i will not help you today we are a school and not salon you can go to any salon. I told im here almost 2 hours ago and you guys told me to go and come back after the break she said I'm not serving you today! It has been two your i used to go to that place and they were nice and helpful now i was really shocked by the way this manager talks and how the lady on the counter is not professional who doesn't know how to organize a simple schedule of turns and when asked she was like im a student and i can't help you! I used to go to that place since 2 years ago and they we nice and good to ppl now it all turned to a bad and clumsy place.
Very satisfactory experience - the staff and students went above and beyond, and I ended up with a haircut I am very pleased with. I will be returning to try out other services. Thank you!
VERY nice asymmetrical haircut!!! Super happy I picked this place to go. Also very good prices!! (Sorry the pictures are a little weird, I took them myself.)
Thank you soo much Kayli... I loved the results... 100% recommended...
One of my friends referred me to go to Avola College for coloring my hair. My experience with Fariba was amazing! She did her best and I love my hair color! It is worth mentioning that she is so kind and patient and gave me advices about choosing my hair color.
The experience was stressful because I had to ask multiple times for staff to wear their masks properly. Many were not wearing them at all, or had them pulled down, not covering their noses and standing close to me. There were no staff or supervisors enforcing proper mask wearing. My hair somehow turned noticeably darker which is not what I asked for, so I will have to go elsewhere to get it fixed.
Julie and Tauney are incredibly detail-oriented and skilled in their hair colouring and cutting, putting extra attention and care into the service. They performed a thorough consultation and ensured they understood what I wanted. I'm very happy with my hair colour and cut and will definitely return.
Where to begin... I'm writing this review as a true testament to the AMAZING and totally professional team that came out to our film shoot! Tiff and Matt were not only EARLY as the core hair and make up team but they were enthusiastic and super knowledgeable about their craft and made every guest look and feel amazing. They exude so much energy and confidence in their work and it showed! I highly recommend Tiff and Matt - along with the entire team at Avola College. We will DEFINITELY be using their services again.
I am a long time client of Avola College and have been coming here for years for my hair colour. I decided to try and incorporate my greys with highlights. I had a consultation with Ms Abbott who gave me some amazing advice on what to do. I came back a few weeks later and under the instruction of Miss Luiza who came up with a crazy cool colour that I loved. When my greys grew in, it looked beautiful with the lavender at the roots. Thanks to the Avola teachers and students for being so talented and caring. I feel and look like a million bucks, thanks to you!
You really do get what you pay for here. While the price for a curly hair cut and colour is significantly cheaper than a standard curly hair friendly salon (About $90 compared to $350), I do not recommend going here. TL;DR: The instructor is extremely rude, and does not know how to handle curly hair, despite my explicit request to be paired with one who does. She ruined my hair texture, I did not get the colour I originally requested, and the highlights start over an inch away from my roots. Context: I called Avola to request full-head copper highlights and a cut on my curly hair. I explicitly asked if they had an instructor who is a curly-haired specialist and they referred me to Pam. They gave me her number and I gave her a call. I told her what I wanted and scheduled an appointment. She was rude, cold, and unwelcoming over the phone. I arrived for my appointment and showed a reference photo for the copper colour I wanted, as well as showed the photo attached of my curly hair, asking her to give me the exact same cut and post-colour styling. The student who did my service was attentive and listened to my requests and concerns. However, they bleached and coloured my hair over an inch away from my roots which you can see in the attached photo. The resulting colour is also just plain red, and not copper like I requested. They also got red toner all over my sleeve and shirt collar. When it came to the haircut, I explicitly asked Pam if she was going to do a dry cut on my curls, since that's what is recommended and done for curly hair from other specialized curl salons, and what I've been doing for years. She said that we needed to cut it wet, and when I tried explicitly stating that I have curly hair and needed it to be cut dry so there won't be any unevenness, she dismissed me, saying my hair was wavy not curly, and she proceeded to cut my hair wet anyway. As shown in the photo, the resulting look of my hair is messy, frizzy, and there are no curls in sight. I asked Pam if she was comfortable with letting me leave looking like this, because it did not look good at all. She blamed the student for not having the appropriate curly hair products, and they proceeded to have a mini-argument. Pam did not offer to fix my hair in any way, and refused to take responsibility. I left disappointed after expressing all of my concerns with none of them being addressed. Throughout the 5 hours I was there, there seemed to be animosity between the students and Pam, and it was uncomfortable to watch her be degrading and rude to her students. I understand that this is a college, and I was patient with the student since I know she's still learning. However, this does not excuse the poor service from the instructor herself, since she's supposed to be the one to know better.
I got the courage to have my first perm ever at Avola College. Kaylie styled my hair, supervised by Touney, and they did an incredible job. I am pleased with the result. They have a friendly team and excellent service. Sorry guys for keeping you busy on this long process. But what can I say? I love getting perms. Thanks for being so amazing.
I would like to say thank u to Avola School. Made some amazing friends while learning a lot. I now feel that I have all the tools I need to go out into the workforce. Very excited and confident going into this next chapter of my life. Again like to thank everyone at Avola for such a great experience. Cami
I went to this Hair School for a month. I was told it was one of the best Hair schools in Toronto. I was a bit skeptical at first because of the schools location. The area is very sleazy and dirty. I was approached daily by drug addicts and homeless people begging for money. Also a sleazy strip club a few steps away from Avola. Going inside the school was just as bad as outside. It was hot and sticky and the bathroom was filthy. One day I went to the bathroom and found feces spread all over the toilet and walls. I was totally disgusted. With all the money you pay as a student
I’m a hairstyling student at Avola College and I love it ! Today we had a guest speaker from Schwartzkopf and it was so informative. We learned so much I can’t wait to try out Schwartzkopf colours and new techniques. Makes me so excited to start my new career in hairstyling. Thank you Avola for giving me the best experience.
I visited Avola Salon today for the first time and had a shampoo, cut and style for $20+tip! The student that cut my hair was not very chatty but she was polite and did a very good job of layering my long, thick hair. I wanted bangs, which she asked her tutor for direction, and he actually ended up cutting this section, showing her as he went - which I thought was really awesome! I would recommend Avola to those that want excellent value for money; are clear about what they want; and are not in a rush, as there are no appointments and the students do take a lil longer to do things.
There is a guy he awesome I didn't cut my hair like that before it's really amazing
Its been a roller coaster experience but at the end of the day its worth it. Really good teachers and students, They really care about your success and work with you.
I had called today (a Saturday morning) to see if I can book a hair cut appointment (I found out that it is drop-in only). The receptionist on the phone had a rude and annoyed tone to her which I didn’t appreciate. I did not say anything to her that should merit such treatment. I have never experienced such treatment at a hair student salon/hair salon before. Her customer service was completely lacking. Please ensure that the people who pick up the phone have a better attitude. They are the first point of contact before potential customers step into the salon. She did not give me a good first impression of the salon. Update: I did end up going to the salon and increased the number of star ratings from a 1 to a 3. This is mainly because the student that cut my hair did a great job. But my review of the receptionist still stands.
My experience at Avola college has been a positive and memorable one. I am almost finished the hairstyling program and I will be very sorry to leave. The teachers are great sources of knowledge as well as very personable and encouraging. The atmosphere at school among the students is a fun and creative one. It is a very diverse group of talented and fun characters who amicably learn from one another and grow their unique skills and abilities. I'm always impressed by the amount of talent my peers have and am always happy to be in an environment that allows us to be expressive. I love being at Avola and would highly recommend it for prospective students as well as clients.
I had a great experience at Avola college. Knowledgeable teachers and fantastic hair styling program. It was my pleasure to study there. Slavko Nikolic
Got a balayage here and am very happy with the result! I got a cut, colour and style — and while the first colour came out a bit lighter than planned, the team offered to darken it for me. All to say, extremely pleased with the final output! Louisa, the instructor, and the other students were really thorough and although the experience did take quite a while (which is to be expected as this is a student salon), all the staff were very professional and friendly. Will be coming back in the future!
This school is such a great place to be ! The environment is super energetic & friendly ! Students work as hard as they can to make sure costumers leave satisfied
I love my hair cut by Fariba she’s amazing and talented and she listens to what you want highly recommended
My experience going to Avola College has been a very positive one. The staff is so kind and knowledgable and is always willing to help you succeed. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to become a stylist!
Hey everone i'm really happy that i'm graduating and look forward to work in a salon. Avola is a great school and i'm so glad that i had so incredible teachers to help me learn a lot.
They serve outside customers but are very slow (As they are students under training). Very careful & discreet. Charge $7+tax for men's hair cut which is very economical.
I got my hair cut in here and my experience was amazing. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. Jay (Jalal) gave me a haircut and I should say I have never seen such a dedicated hairstyler. Friba his supervisor was super nice as she came regularly to check Jay if he is doing okay. The salon is clean and organize and the customer service is amazing. Highly recommend this place, especially if you are a student and cannot afford the expensive hair salons!
The first time I ever went to Avola I wanted to do the impossible, get my dark hair light enough to be silver/lavender. Under the guidance of Miss Abbott, the students working on my hair were able to do just that!! Thanks to the great teaching ability and coaching of Miss Abbott, I keep going back to the college and every successive student gets my hair exactly where I need it to be!
I stumbled across Avola College twelve years ago while visiting Toronto and was pleasantly surprised by the care and dedication of the teachers to make every client feel comfortable while having students practice their skills. As an auto mechanic I know the importance of practical experience when learning a trade, therefore I really enjoy watching nervous new student grow confident in esthetics and hairdressing as they practice their craft. I've enjoyed every visit and made many new friends at Avola College and highly recommend their services to anyone that values our youth and quality services. Thank you for being there for me over the years, Stefonknee Wolscht
Great job touching up my roots , very happy with the service, staff and students!
Bona did a fantastic job. She pays attention to details and is very patient. Ms. Stevens is a great teacher and mentor. Extremely supportive and great advisor.
Perfect school
Mrs Stephen's is lit!! I had her as my teacher in 2007. She's fun knowledgeable and understanding and patience????Great teacher and person!!
Excellent school for learning esthetics! The teacher is very knowledgeable, and a well seasoned esthetician! Up to date with the latest in the trade and recent technology! The program covers everything you'd need to know about the business!
I have been a customer of Avola for almost 2 years now. It saddens me to even write this review but I have to because of the absolutely horrible experience I had with them today. I had my hair cut by a tall asian woman (don't know her name) who was nothing but rude and rough with the way she handled the cut. I paid for my hair to be washed before the cut and when I told her this, she refused and asked someone else to wash it. While cutting the hair, she combed it so roughly with the brush and comb that it hurt my scalp and ears. Also, she made no effort to avoid the cut hair from falling in my eyes. When I politely asked her to do so, she said its part of the haircut and one of the staff sitting there rudely remarked "That's just gravity". Well, I'd say that's just a mark of an amateur hairdresser because all the other students who cut my hair in the past made sure this never happened or at least made an effort to clean it in between. She continued by roughly pressing and hitting my scalp with the electric shaver and comb until the end of the cut. After the cut, when it was time to wash my hair and style it, she refused once again by rudely questioning again if I paid for it. Once the receptionist confirmed it, she simply rinsed my hair with water and told me its done. When I asked her to wash it with shampoo and conditioner, she said, "Oh, do you want conditioner? Here you go" and proceeded to very roughly hit my head with her conditioner soaked hands, washed it off with insufficient water, put a towel on my head, and just left. I had to dry my hair myself and go ask her to blow dry it. She then proceeded to dry my hair without making any effort whatsoever to style it and left it incomplete. I had to take the dryer myself and finish drying my hair and styling it in the end. What a nightmare experience!!! I only have one final word of advice to management. Please don't employ people who don't like what they are doing and take it out on clients no matter how polite and patient we are. You will eventually end up driving loyal customers like me away and lose their business and respect if you do.
This instructors are patient, and take time to do things right for your hair. My hair was unique and took several sessions to get the colour lifting I wanted with out damaging my hair. Very good service. The Russian teacher is highly skilled and is absolutely amazing, a gem in this industry! My hair is very thick and she knows exactly what to do with it. I have gotten compliments almost everywhere I’ve gone since I’ve been coming here. If you want good service and a professional looking hair style, this is the place to go! And it’s cost efficient, just the cherry on top of this sundae! I’ve tried to book with other hair schools before I found this place but the process was too long. I walked in one day, and I had the good fortune of stumbling onto the Russian teacher and she assessed my hair and gave me an honest “this is going to take at least three to four treatments before you get their hair style your looking for.” This was very respectable, and she was right. Now I’ve been coming here for over a year and recommend it to everyone! My favourite student is Niko, he’s so meticulous, and he takes time to make thin highlights, using expert techniques ensuring that the colours come out the same and look well blended. One of the best students I’ve had do my hair, and excellent results every time.
I am so happy to be a student of Hairstyling and Esthetics program at Avola College. The atmosphere of the college is very friendly and happy. It motivates for beautiful creations. The teachers and management provide all needed support. I have all my questions answered right away. They put all efforts to insure that students understand the program and gain all required skills. The teachers are happy to show and explain as many times as needed to reach understanding. And although the program is intense and we have to learn a lot, it feels like fun and I do not notice how time passes by while I do hairstyles or study. This all makes me feel like being in a family. It gives me the proper mood to create beautiful hairstyles that was hard to believe that I could ever do. I am very grateful to the management and teachers for making my time in the college an amazing experience!
Great experience. I’m super picky about my hair, the instructors really listened to what I wanted and very very intructive with the student. Thank you for my new look! Xo.
If you're willing to be patient and don't need a fancy ambience, this is a great choice! Went there this morning and was delighted with my cut and eyebrow wax. I enjoyed the relaxed energy of the students and their learning environment, and its pretty hard to beat the price anywhere in town! Definitely recommend.
I would highly recommend trying Avola College for their salon services ! Luiza is an true artist and her passion comes out in her work. She created the most natural looking balayage I have ever had ! She has an amazing team of students who are dedicated to making you look beautiful! I will be back.
I'd always been frightened of getting a fade haircut, and I'd never had one before, but when I went to Avola College for a haircut, they recommended a fade. I gave it a go, and let me tell you, the way they trimmed my hair was incredible. ????I absolutely adored it. It fits the bill perfectly. Unfortunately, I don't recall the name of the student who trimmed my hair, but he was amazing and entertaining. Maria, who was also present when my haircut was being done, comes to mind. She is really sweet and kind!! ???? So the most important thing to remember is that everyone at Avola College is friendly. I appreciate the service.
My experience as an international student enrolled in the hairstyling program has been great so far. English is not my first language and I had no troubles during the classes and exams. All instructors were willing to help me with any language issue. A huge thanks to Mrs Abbot and Mrs Letisha for caring so much for the students and for doing their best to be make sure they really learned.
Avola school did Bolyage for me today . Luize , the instructor did very good job on my hair and student Lodina . I will be here always same as before .
I have been here twice, once for balayage and second for a colour and cut. Kayli and Julie are wonderful, patient, thorough and so personable! Grateful for their amazing services! Also shout out to Fariba for her support.
They say it will take 30 mins for someone to attend you but none turns up even if you wait about 2 hours .
I had my perm done there last year. They did a great job. Thinking of going back to do some coloring (three tone style).
My first week experience at this school was great. I’ve met some good and friendly people. When I first came I was so nervous and quite didn’t know who to talk to or not but as the days pasted I notices that the students here are so helpful and friendly. This college is every friendly. A huge thanks to Mrs Abbot and Mrs Letisha for caring and doing their best to be make sure they really learned.
I decided to go to Avola because my hairstylist is away for the month. I will never go back here again. I have an undercut and need simple upkeep. The hairstylist that gave me my cut also had an undercut so I thought I was in good hands. I usually ask for a level 1 with no fade, or crazy designs. Very plain. I noticed that my head was feeling very sensitive after the cut and then looked at my neck and noticed it was completely raw. Please don't go here! The hairstylist that did my hair is graduating in January and has red hair. Do not go to her!!!
The price for a men's haircut was more than reasonable. Including a hair wash and taxes, I only paid $10. However, the service is a little slower than usual because they are students but if you're not in a hurry than I would definitely recommend the place for the other guys who want a quick and cheap cut.
Avola College was exceptional great at providing my client information prior to starting classes. Both Mark and Twyla were prompt getting back to me regarding the course outline and the specific tools needed for my client to start with the College. After discussing the unique circumstances of my client, they were able to provide a catered program which accommodated the needs of my client. The process was super easy to get started. In comparison to other Colleges, Avola stands above the rest in preparing their students for a career in the industry, customer service and overall mentorship and guidance for their students long after they graduate. They work with you ever step of the way to ensure that you exceed in your career.
I got a curly perm and I love it!!!!!!!
I was very impressed with the professionalism of the service. Samia gave me an excellent haircut, with much attention to detail. As her instructor, Fariba gave good guidance and then personally added the finishing touches to my hairdo.
It's a great service and as another commenter mentions, the price is way reasonable (at moment of this writing, a mans haircut is under $10). However the only con I have is that these are students whom are learning and when you find a good one, they're only there for a short period of time. So you're going to be constantly having different people working on your hair. Obviously some are better than others - But they need to learn on real people. BTW I don't think it's suitable for former/current students to be commenting on this - It's supposed to be for customers of the services! I've marked the students comments as "conflicts of interest" to Google. We want the contents to be useful NOT marked with spam.
Great experience at Avola today with Kayli ,Julie,Melissa and Fariba ! Got a balayage done and left the salon so happy ! Can't wait to come back !
I came here to get my hair cut and colored and loved the whole experience! It was really fun atmosphere and my stylist Louisa is an expert. I put my trust in her and she surpassed all expectations. Ive been loving my new color for a few weeks now. I wouldn't hesitate to come here again :)
My experience at Avola college was for the most part wonderful, as with any college you have your good days and bad days, but what was important was the support that I had received from the staff. Even after graduating they have been helping me fix up my resume and assisting me with finding a job. The environment is very relaxed and a lot of fun. Thank you too all of the staff for the wonderful learning experience and support you have provided me.
I'm pretty new to this place. I've lived around the corner from the college for years, but only went there for the first time last week and I had an excellent experience. Very friendly students and instructors all around, and they are handling the current coronavirus pandemic like champs with their client prescreening, cleanliness, and sanitization. My initial haircut was generally excellent, but when I went home, I realized that the back wasn't cut the way I wanted. Lisa, the director of the college, let me come back and she fixed it up perfectly free of charge. That's the kind of service that keeps customers coming back, and I too will certainly come back the next time I need a haircut.
I had great experiences at this school. Came with no ideas how to hold scissors and brushes. Learned a lot from great teachers, learned how to communicate with clients. Every day trainings with mannequins and real clients made me one of the best hairstylists. Students from Avola College are great and generous , always ready to help you with difficult situations.........So come and join us !!!
Great experience at Avola College. I was styled by Gloria, who was so kind and very professional My haircut is perfect. Everybody is very nice. I really recommended! I will come back for sure
Got my hair done today for the first time in over a year by Lodina and it is absolutely fantastic, I couldn’t be happier with the service I received and my fabulous new hair!
Excellent service and very through safety procedures for COVID
Before I decided to attend school to become a hairstylist I did my research and looked at many different places but I couldn't believe at the different options and opportunities Avola College would give me. It's such a huge surprise and I'm grateful that I found this place. It's so convenient the teachers are one and one, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Abbit are always there when you need them - the doors are always open for you. I've never felt that kind of attention being well educated and being respected of wanting someone to teach me. Not only did I plan on expanding my horizons in my field I learned exceptional business and communication skills. I enjoyed every minute of it, I wouldn't and couldn't find a better place to learn & grow and to be the best hairstylist I can be :)
The cut wasn't bad but wasn't something I loved. The student cutting my hair had absolutely no idea what he was doing. She teacher was going back and forth with five different students. The cut took 1.30 to complete. Not a bad place but I wouldn't suggest it for haircuts.
From the moment I walked in I was made to feel welcome by a team of smiley and genuine people. I knew I wanted to go grey, gracefully, but had no idea what that entailed. Their talented staff and students not only demystified the process but I left looking and feeling absolutley fantastic.
I have visited Avola College of Hairstyling and Esthetics several times for hair and aesthetic treatments and I have been very happy with my experience. The staff and students were very friendly and as they were supervised by their instructors, I felt that I received much more attention than I would have received at a retail salon. I had a very cheerful experience and will continue to visit the school. A. Miriam
Some staff are very rude, especially reception. Russian teacher is crazy and just enjoys chatting with her students. Did not check up on my hair dye job. The end result of my dye job was horrific. Had to come back to fix it and even then it was horrific. No possible way to fix my hair. I’m warning everyone. Their bleach will damage your hair forever. They use the worst quality products on your hair. The toner comes off after one wash, and you end up with extreme orange hair left from the bleach. The bleach destroys your hair completely.... only come here if you want to shave your head after because the quality of products is garbage. It’s been 6 months since I dyed my hair and I am still cutting off my hair inch by inch to remove every single ounce of bleach on my hair. I understand bleach damages your hair but the extent to which this place destroyed my hair is beyond imaginable. I truly regret stepping foot into this life place. Hair is a symbol of beauty. My hair is completly destroyed and it will never be the same until I continue chopping off the garbage work they did to my hair. I highly do not recommend this place if you want to get your hair coloured or cut. If you want to come to this place for a blow out, maybe sure. However, do not come to this place for any sort of dye job. Otherwise, you too will want to cry your heart out. Also, do not rely on the hours open shown on this salon’s site. If you go even 4 hours sometimes before closing they still refuse you. In addition, note to salon please provide your students with better supplies and better bleaches and toners because you are messing with real people and their hair. Hair is life changing and you as a salon owner should know that. Also, these students are paying a lot for their education. Provide good education, better teachers and better supplies. Stop being cheap. Also, stop getting students to write reviews on google because it’s not an accurate depiction of your school. Also horrific location. Very dirty, smelly and gross. Furthermore, bathrooms are not in condition to use. Please also provide students with a break room to eat because food smells very bad. In conclusion, I highly do not recommend going to this salon. I wish this place closes down to save everyone their hair (which is a person’s beauty). If you want to go somewhere cheap with good products and services, please go to TRADE SECRETS. Highly recommend going there. I give this place 0 stars.
I had a very bad experience here, they quality of product they used to do my perm was really bad. they fully damaged my hair. the instructor was very rude and had lack of knowledge. Never go to place ever, if you love your hair.
I graduated from Avola College of Hairstyling and Esthetics in 1999. As a student of the College, I learned various skills such as: facial and full body massage, Aromatheraphy with the use of essential oils, eyebrow, facial and body waxing, eyebrow and eyelash tinting, manicure and pedicure, ear candling, ear piercing, facial and bridal make-up, paraffin treatments, etc. and most important of all, Infection Control And Workplace Safety. As a student, we were able to avail of the various services amongst the other students of the school as part of our practicum prior to graduation of my Esthetics course. I have only praises, very grateful and kind words not just to all their professional instructors and staff but above all to the Owner and Director of the school, Mark Avola. When I got laid off from my first job in 1996 after working for 5 years, I took part-time course offered by the community to help myself reintegrate back successfully into the workplace. From that course, I started my desire to learn more and that fave the way for me to enroll on full-time Esthetic course at Avola College. This gave me all the blessings that helped mould me into becoming the person I have been over the years. My learning from this school gave me hope for new future and to find joy in life knowing we are worthy and can do our heart's desire and that our life has new meaning and purpose. And, whatever we believe during times of our trials, we can rise above and begin to see beauty in little things within our surroundings. With the help of Avola's team of professionals, I was glad I enrolled in this college because I learned the true meaning of what life is all about and it has impacted me in a very positive way. I highly recommend Avola College to students looking for vehicle to start new journey in life. I wish you all of God's abundant blessings and success!!! God bless???? Benilda L. Lopez Former Student
I have spent over $400 at another salon for colour correction work to fix what happened at this hair school. I went in for a root root blend and ended up with an orange mess. They tried to recolur over top which very quickly washed out back to orange. I also walked away with a haircut that was terrible and choppy with the right side being much longer than the left.
I love this school ! The environment is always so lively !
I had the most fantastic experience getting my hair cut last week by Simin. She was extremely gentle and did an amazing job, giving me the exact style that I requested.
I wanted to say that I started my schooling at Marvel and a few months in decided that the school was not for me as I did not feel I learned anything and there was no improvement or that the teachers were indifferent and overwhelmed due to over enrolment. I feel like I wasted my money there. Since I've started at Avola College- WOW what a difference!! I feel like I'm learning what I need to be learning. I can tell you that the teachers care and it's like FAMILY here. I highly recommend anyone thinking of taking the course to consider this school first. I get so many clients here and feel that the teachers will cater to a student's specific needs in so far as where they want to specialize. Cut Throat Enthusiast
I had the best experience yesterday! The staff and students clearly know what they are doing. Everybody is very friendly and they all make sure your hair gets the attention it deserves. There are really no downsides. Special thanks to Ijay and Tony!
Thank you so much to AVOLA COLLEGE for hosting at their location, the annual Cuts for Gilda's Club Greater Toronto. This is has become an annual fundraiser for Gilda's Club - a cancer support organization in Toronto that offers cancer support programs free of charge to those living with cancer, as well as their families. Various reputable hair stylists in the City of Toronto come together on a Sunday in September to donate their time and talents in support of this worthy organization. Patrons only pay a fraction of what these stylists normally charge and are grateful that the funds raised goes to support those living with cancer. The Avola College not only lends us their space, but they get their students involved to help out that day showing the importance of giving back to the community. Thanks Avola College for helping us ensure that no one has to face cancer alone. - Gilda's Club Greater Toronto
I have been a client for over 20 years and can say that the service at Avola College at Dundas and Sherbourne has always been excellent. I live in the Yonge and Eglinton area and know all about expensive salons and spas as I have tried them as well over the years along with other beauty schools, but I always go back to Avola. I find the staff and students unpretentious, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Best of all the PRICE! If you're looking for great services at better than reasonable prices, go to Avola. You can get student stylists and student estheticians to perform services today for which you'd be paying more than double the price in a few weeks or months once they actually graduate and are working in a salon or spa- at which point I might add that there will not be a teacher supervising them in the salon at that point. The teachers here supervise them and check all work before I leave the salon or spa. Sure you'll get a student every so often that's not too chatty or needs assistance form one of the instructors but that goes with the territory. Try them out- 5 stars:) Cheers. Stacey S.
I was very pleased with the girl who did my hair.I has highlights and cut...it took a bit longer but that was okay since it is better to take your time and do the proper job.She was focused on the task and did her best to do what I asked of her..Her instructor monitored the process which was good so that the student could ask for help/confirmation if needed.I would recommend the college for service.
I'm impressed with the result and quality of service, they bleached and toned my hair perfectly. The instructor was Letisha and the student was Kasha. I'm happy I found this place and will be back.
Love this place - great service, great music and best price!
Very disappointed by the true staff, they messed up my hair. It would be great if the manager could either be present on site or have his cell number available.
I received a colour, cut and manicure at Avola College. The students were courteous and polite and provided good service. The teachers kept an eye on the students and provided helpful tips and guidance when needed. The price and service were great! I would recommend Avola College to anyone.
Hi this student did a really good. And professional job on my hair today. I love my new colour. She brighten my hair and toned it into something beautiful.
I would like to encourage anyone interested in taking a Hair styling or Esthetics course to consider Avola College of Hair and Esthetics. I graduated from Avola having a great experience and excellent training. My instructor in the Esthetics course was exceptional as well were the rest of the teachers throughout the school. I took my training and opened my own business in Esthetics and utilize the skills I learned in school daily. Accessible location, great course outline and great people!
Trying to get services there as a client but so far phoned three times -- first two times got cut off. Third time I explained what had happened and the receptionist said "oh I don't know esthetics is pretty busy so I could try but you might not get through" I said don't bother. WTH?? I guess you don't really want clients.
Everyone is super friendly, the students are all very excited to learn and love what they do. The teachers are very helpful and very knowledgeable. So hands on and very professional school.
Avola College has been one of the best decisions I could’ve made for my future. I’ve been attending school full time for 2 months and already I have learned so much. 2 years ago I completed a MOA (Medical Office Admin) Course and although I learned a lot and loved that program as well, I later then realized I wanted to do more practical work instead of paper work... & here I am at avola learning everything I’ve ever wanted to. Their esthetics program has been so educational. In 8 more months I will be ready to open my own Beauty MediSpa ! Thank you to the teachers & administrators for making my enrolment, and daily schedule very easy for me as a single mother of 3! ????
I spent 4 hours and $100.57 for two students to ruin my hair. I asked for a cooler shade of brown with light brown streaks underneath and left with yellow, orange and green streaks through the bottom of very dark, unevenly dyed hair. Even after the students attempted to fix it, I left with the same disgusting color. I've never been so angry or disappointed in my entire life. I'd never recommend this place to anyone who wants more than a simple trim. I'd never trust the good reviews about this place ever again.
This is a good academy for gaining theoretical knowledge and practical experience in hair cutting, color and styling. The instructors are professional and friendly. I am enjoying my experience here as a student. I love my instructors Ms Abbott and Mrs Stephen becuase they take their time in explaining step by step and making sure u understand everything before proceeding to the next step. Avola college is like a home away from home very friendly environment
Only been here for almost 3 weeks, so far the teachers are super kind and fun and very helpful! They definitely know their stuff!
Avola school should rather be called “Avola store”! All matters is your money! Teachers: Not organized, no timetable, no proper notes! They always are in a competition and gossiping about each others teaching techniques. Do not ask questions, because they might get upset. Louisa is one of the teachers, who makes teams and compete with other teachers. She puts the students of other team at corner and humiliates them. She showed middle finger to some students who complained and stood for themselves. When you complain to the manager, his response is “all you need a certificate that you will get, regardless”. I left as soon as I found about this place and they gave me a very good reference to keep my mouth shot. The school ventilation was not working at all during the COVID with 40 students in class (like a hell!), even when they were doing practical tests. Projector did not work many times and the manager did not bother to fix it on time. They finished classes early and they asked the students to clean the whole area, not just their own stations. In return for cleaning the area, they bribe the students with extra hours to complete the 1500 hours. Are you a passionate individual and you love hairdressing? This is not the right place for you.
I got a hair cut and iron hair straightened for a very good deal. My hair was very professionally done. Usually when I go to hair salons I pay more and hear complaints of how difficult my hair is to cut. I wish I knew about Avola sooner. The girl who cut my hair was enjoying it and she did a very wonderful job.
Part time student at Avola.... Great hours for the student that wants part time school... Accommodating schedule for school... As I work full time and this works perfectly.... Instructors are amazing knowledgeable.... Miss Pam and miss Letesha... My instructor Miss LUIZA is amazing.... Students are great... Call and get info.... Lots of hands on experience
When I set foot in Avola, I was warm welcome by Cassandra. And she introduced me to Pretty (don't know how to spell her name, it's pretty long for Indian so I named her that nickname). She even asked me if she can pictured my hair. I also agreed. And since it's my birthday, this salon is the best place you can ask for a hairstylist. I will have a chance to visit this place again in the future.
I had my hair cut and styled by Katelyn who did an amazing job. She had great support from the instructor Fariba, who was also very professional. I was very pleased with the overall service and will return later this month for a trim. Thank you. K
Tried Avola after seeing the reviews. At the counter was told that the prices were not updated on the website and were higher. Short wait for a haircut. The hygiene is not the very best. The teacher did not come around even once to check on the haircut which fortunately was good. Would be great if the students had a separate room to eat their meals as the salon then smells of food.
I had a really bad experience at Avola college. I went to get one solid hair colour, ended up with the wrong colour and top and bottom of my hair were different colour. One of the teachers there is also very unprofessional and rude, does not know how to treat clients. The managers should have their number available for people to be able to contact them or should be oversee one of their teachers who is extremely rude.
Avola College has been a wonderful partner of the CRC | Regent Park Community Food Centre by providing free professional haircuts for participants at the CRC, who are living in poverty or low-income and experience barriers to getting haircuts. Avola College students volunteer their time and energy at the CRC on a monthly basis and offer a much needed service for participants. We are so thankful of this partnership and really appreciate the support, enthusiasm and energy of Avola College students. This is a great way for Avola College students to get involved and give back to the community and gain practical experience. Thank you Avola College!
I like the hair cut and hair color. Matthew the student did excellent job. Thankyou.
I had my hair washed, cut, and blow dried here yesterday and I am in love! For just 21 dollars I received amazing treatment with a fun and welcoming environment. Liany did my hair and she did a great job giving me exactly the look I asked for! If I'm ever back in toronto and in need of a haircut I'll definitely be coming back because these talented people know how to make my hair look and feel great!
Me and my family have been clients of Avola College for close to 12 years and can say not only do we get great value for our salon and spa services but the teachers and students are great. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get great service at great prices. The teachers always seem to be available when they are needed by a student.
Sells the Mon Platin hair line. Best hair products money can buy. If you're looking for Mon Platin order from this salon. If you haven't tried Mon Platin you need to. They can add a cost effective mon platin treatment to your service - just got my roots done, very reasonable pricing - fast to be seen - good colour match with full grey coverage - student working on me, not perfect but tried her best. People coming here need to understand students take a little longer and aren't 100% perfect yet. - had a shine treatment added to my service, very noticable difference. Worth the extra money. Would get it again. - this salon is my dirty little secret for hair colouring and mon platin products.
Ayan and Fariba gave us a hair cut. They are gentle, kind, professional.
Had an amazing experience at Avola College! Such an easy check in with a friendly receptionist who addressed all my needs. Got highlights, toning, and a conditioning treatment done by two amazing students who mastered the job. I’d definitely come back and recommend all ladies to check this place out.
I was seen by Julie for a hair wash and cut. They made sure they knew what style I was looking for and were always checking on my comfort and making sure the hair style was what I wanted as they cut. A good experience which I would recommend for anyone looking for a new hair do.
worst school in TO
Worst mistake of my life attending school here. All positive reviews on this school are false because the owner rewards a gift bag to students leaving who write a positive review. For me, the integrity is worth more. The teacher is too busy marking tests and texting to give hands-on help, all materials given (that you pay $1000 for) are from the dollar store so you need to purchase an entire new kit, the teachers will fail you because they “see better potential”, yet pass the male barbers, the facility is disgustingly filthy in a dangerous area and building. Overall, this college does not prepare you for success in the salon world. It scared a lot of students away from the industry for good. I wish I had seen an honest review online before I spent all the money and time I did at this school. Please reconsider attending school here and attend literally anywhere else, that will prepare you to be a skilled stylist in the workforce.
Everyone is super friendly, positive environment. Extremely helpful and very knowledgable. Love going in seeing all the happy students.
After being told on the phone that it was okay to come in for a short cut -time wise, I was turned away. At 7:55 when their hours on the website says 9:30 on Thursdays, and there is a sign on the wall that says not to take clients after 8:30...
Good evening to everyone today I went to Avola College of Hairstyling and Esthetics to get my hair treated and i had a wonderful result. I recommend you to come to this location to get you necessitates done they had great service and were very respectful. I thank Lisa and Micheal for taking the time in their day to do my hair it was amazing and I appreciate all of the time and effort you guys put into doing my hair thank you so much. yours truly, Janeth
Show up ontime and show up daily and you will learn something! The teachers all have their own areas of expertise for you to learn from and the director is flexible when life unexpectedly interferes with your schedule. I am grateful for the teacher/s ;) that made me a better stylist and for the flexibility this school has afforded me.
Absolutely disgusting.Walked in and walked out. Dirty school. Went to aveda. Don’t waste your time or money.
BEWARE, AS A STUDENT STAY AWAY !!,,,,THEY ARE A TRAP FOR YOU TO JOIN AND GIVE CHEAP HAIRCUTS TO DRUG ADDICTS. YOU WILL LEARN NOTHING !!! IT'S A SCAM, MY SON JOINED, AND GOT SCAMMED! NEVER ANY TEACHERS,,,,STAY AWAY ! YOU WERE WARNED !!
Very low in product quality and performance. Not having a good management and productivity. Very messy place disobeying the health and safety rules and ethics.
The school is fine; Ms Abbott and Ms Stevens are EXCELLENT teachers; however; the issue is the area where the school is located.
Horrible place!!! I went there on a weekday to ask if they were doing a certain type of hairstyle. As soon as I went in, a girl made a gimmick face saying we are close with a lot of unnecessary attitude. When I replied it was just for a quick info, she did the same... I mean as a black woman trying to support a black owned business, it made me understood why I DO NOT mingle in low class places with low class people because they don't know anything about sustainable business...
We had a great experience having Avola College students to participate in our events across the GTA. The students are very professional and talented stylists. We would love to work with Avola College students for future events. Twyla - Thank you for all your support in 2018 and looking forward to working with you in 2019.
The first time I went to Avola it was on the advice of a friend, and I wasn't sure what Id get especially since the students work on your hair. I was blown away! The students are so fun and learning the newest techniques with knowledgeable teachers right beside them the whole time. I was treated like royalty, they listened to exactly what I wanted and made it happen, and now I don't go anywhere else! The prices are incredible and my hair never ever looked better. The students and teachers obviously have a great connection and it shows, making Avola the funnest hair salon around! They take their time and really do a great job and taught me how to recreate my look at home . Im 100% a loyal customer now.
absolute nightmare. receptionist has no clue what she is doing. The person I tried to book an apt for ahead of time didnt even show up. Everybody is rude and condescending. The people there clearly feel superior even though all they do is style hair. Worst area in Toronto and the place itself is scumming beyond belief (as well as the people who work there). would highly recommend if you want to shave your head after
Just got the best hair cut from here. The hairdresser Soo is the best. She made my experience amazing, she knows what she is doing and she know about products which one you can buy from them. And product really work. I had problems with dadruffs and tried everything to get rid of them, I tried shampoos from pharmacy, but it did help. And Soon suggest to try DSM shampoo and it showed results showed immediately. It good place to get excellent hair cut and customer service .
Terrible! I have never written a bad review before but I can’t express how awful my experience was. The instructor needed to step in to salvage my haircut and as I was leaving I was told “don’t worry it will grow back”.
Cockroach ridden dump. Avoid at all costs.
