Five Star!!! I worked up the street from Supernova for many years and I don't know why I didn't pop in sooner. My hair was extremely damaged from bleaching my hair for two years and has suffered a lot of breakage and thinning. I never knew such a small change could make such a big transformation. I had a great gut feeling when booking my appointment that I was making a great choice by seeing James. He listened to my concerns, made me feel comforted, we shared a few laughs and the entire visit was very professional and friendly. I felt very at ease and gave all my trust into James. I was listened to and was delivered exactly what I was looking for (and more) I'm so grateful for my new look and I would recommend James to any of my close friends or family. I look forward to seeing him again, and pre-booked my next cut! Thank you!!!

Wanted to love my experience but it's not competitive enough compared to other salons I've been too- I probably won't be back. My hair stylist was quiet and efficient (which is exactly what I like) however my hair was not styled at the end (i.e. no curling/waves). I didn't say anything at the time but should have. I did like that she listened to me about not going too short. However, with my fine medium length hair, I walked out looking the same as I went in. No harm, no foul but not ideal when spending $100.00. Other feedback that I've have is to greet customers as they walk in, and offer them a drink/seat while they wait. Basic stuff like that was missing.

It was my first time going to Supernova and this salon is exactly what I have been looking for. The price for my haircut is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve been overcharged waaay to many times at so many salons but supernova just impressed me! I think my hairdresser was Ali and she did exactly what I wanted. I came in for a trim and she knew exactly what she was doing, I showed her a few pictures of what I wanted as well. Very nice and was great to talk to her. I am definitely going to be coming back.

I’m a person who wants an immediate appointment. Feigning loyalty, I go for the “fix”.Upkeep of my short hair can be costly, so I opt for the lesser, but not always least expensive stylist. On several occasions I left feeling ‘me-so-sad’, EEEH-GAD-My-hairdo=sucks, Lucky for me a junior at Supernova’s has over a years experience. Ive had four appointments so far; junior, junior, senior and back to junior. The results were excellent , each time an 8 or 9 / 10.. This was my first foray into a professional salon - I was thoroughly delighted! It was also my first non-binary style and I commend Supernova for being associated with the Strands for Trans program. As anyone moving slowly through the transition process understands, inhabiting the “in-between” world is delicate and awkward. Having a functional hair style to navigate this precarious period is fraught with challenges but Emily was able to perfect a color and look that impressively blurs the binary narrative. First time there. Alix was phenomenal - made me feel like a friend right from the start. The hairwash and the head massage was awesome and she did a great job inspite of the fact that I was in a mask - recommended me something that will suit my face cut and my hair needs. They’ve got little to no respect for their customers...I booked an appointment with Victoria 10days ago. Just received a phone call saying she’s sick - hours before my appointment. Things arise, yes... But the least they could’ve done as call me in advance out of courtesy. Not only have they merciless ruined my plans, they’ve also left me little to no time to find a replacement. I would avoid them at all costs!

I've been debating on writing this review for 6 months now. I think that now, I definitely see the full effect of my hair and I can give a full and honest review. Over the summer, I started feeling down about myself and I wanted to make a change. I had long, thick, middle eastern hair that was dyed black but fading, so you could see my old hair colour underneath, and I wanted to cut it all off and dye it a different colour. In September, I went and saw Emily for a cut + colour. I made it very clear with what I wanted(an almost caramel-honey brown balayage with a shoulder length cut. No layers, just textured ends) and she said we could achieve it. Come the day of my appointment, she tells me that it's going to take multiple sessions to get the colour that I want.. Not a problem, just wish she had told me in the consult so I didn't get my hopes up. She colours my hair.. And I don't see a difference. At all. My hair looked the exact same, maybe just with the colour brought up a bit more. My friend, who came and visited me during my appointment, said she didn't notice a difference either afterwards. She then cuts my hair... And it's nothing I wanted. She gave me layers in the front of my hair,(which was the one thing I said I didn't want, because layers make me look older and they have always take forever to grow out with my hair for some reason.) my hair was totally uneven after the cut. I looked like a middle aged woman, mind you I'm not even 20 years old. I absolutely HATED my hair. It felt like she didn't listen to me at ALL and just went with what she wanted. I was too anxious to speak up as well, but I kept looking at the reference picture and praying that it would somehow look like that. I went home and cried and debated getting my mom to give me a pixie cut so that it would at least all grow out somewhat evenly. Fortunately, Dana, the owner heard about how disappointed I was and offered to cut my hair for me for free. There wasn't much she could work with without making me look like a complete fool, but it was good enough so that I didn't look totally old. Emily completely butchered my hair with that cut. Usually, with my hair, it grows about an inch or two every month and I'd have to get a trim maybe every 3-4 months. But I've been having to trim my hair every month to make sure it's growing out evenly. I'm SO disappointed with Emily's work. Her Instagram looked promising. Maybe it was my mistake; trusting an apprentice with my hair texture, but I didn't expect her to completely mess my hair up! :( I'm not too disappointed about the colour, because I ended up dying it dark brown 2 weeks after, just because I couldn't stand looking at myself, it's more so the cut that really screwed me over. If you have the same hair texture I do, go see Dana. She's friendly and awesome. She definitely made me feel less ugly. Will be going back to her soon.

Cute place, great service! No major complaints really but a pretty simple haircut costs 86 bucks with a junior stylist. I know they are environmentally friendly salon which is pretty awesome and part of the fees goes towards their recycling program. So I would definitely recommend but if you are looking to spend a bit less money on your hair than you might want to look elsewhere

I was absolutely thrilled with the pricing of 3/4 head balayage!! Michaela was attentive to my concerns in regards to dying my hair (damaged, thin) and was able to capture what I envisioned. She's friendly, talkative and talented! Amber at the front desk was wonderfully helpful and professional, a total pleasure! The salon is clean, modern and well laid out. Is supernova expensive? Yes, definitely, for anything more than a basic cut. Do they do a fantastic job? Abosolutely 100%. I am impressed eveytime I go to supernova with increasingly out-there ideas for my hair. Their expertise on colour is invaluable if you're going for a big colour change, and they will 100% make sure your final product looks and feels great. The stylists are all super warm and excited for you in any endeavour you want to undertake, but will also be honest with you about what the process will look like and what itlli do to your hair. All around, I've only ever had positive experiences at supernova and haven't found any other place I'm as happy with, despite the cost.

If I could give this place more stars, I would. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, I've kind of been bouncing around salons since I moved to BC and haven't found the right fit for someone to keep my red hair fresh. Supernova is pretty close to me, so I thought I'd try it out. Hands down, the best experience I've ever had getting my hair done. Emily was my stylist and she is just an absolute gem. She let me know the price points of each part of the process and making sure I was ok with them before continuing with them. She was so friendly and made sure I was taken care of and also having fun for the entirety of the appointment. The results are honestly amazing and I've never been so happy with my hair. It is a bit on the pricy side, but for me, there is no price tag on feeling like myself. I'll absolutely be returning to Supernova, the staff was amazing, the salon is clean and everything about it is great!

It's a good spot, particularly during Covid, they have good practices in place, you'll feel comfortable. I've had a few men's cuts there, a little of a mixed result, but overall good. Every stylist is different, and I'm particular, so I can't hold that against anyone there. I got an appointment that same morning with Annie who cut my hair exactly as requested - not too much, not too little! The massage during the shampoo was an added bonus and compared to salons in Vancouver the price was reasonable. I will definitely go back even though it is quite a long drive. I have had many compliments since then and I should add that everyone who walked out of there seemed to have a good cut !

I have debated whether or not to leave this review and am doing so for anyone dealing with more than just straight forward hair needs. Supernova is an esthetically pleasing salon that sells competency in offering a great service. I never pay to get my hair done but needed help. I had fried my hair using a cap, lots broke off, and I spent months growing it out. I did a consult and was assigned a seniour stylist and told to wait a few more month. I went back to get my hair done and was told that I still needed to wait, but we could put some lightening around the face. The stylist did fine baby lights and in short, did not take into consideration the damaged hair that she was working on. There was one level of bleach used on the entire shaft of my hair, new growth plus the damaged ends. My hair is hard to lift, so I ended up under a heater and my hair was over processed. This was 2 months ago, and the ends of my hair have all broken off where she did the highlights. I now have to spend months growing out my hair again, around the area that frames my face.

On the down side, I recently had an updo done for my son's wedding and it began falling out before the wedding. Extra pins would have really been appreciated. I was disappointed as it was $100 and began falling out an hour after my appointment. I think $100 for an updo is extremely pricey especially when there is not a wash and dry included. Other than that, I do feel very confident with the lady that does my regular steaks! :)

I went in with almost jet black hair stained from box dye, came out with the most natural looking strawberry blonde subtle ombre that matched my natural root colour spot on. She looked at the appointment book and walked around the desk to again not even acknowledge me. I am not asking for a hug JUST SAY HELLO! There was also another long hair brunette chatting with someone right by the door right where I was standing. Nothing from her either. Was there for 5 minutes and just walked out. I have checked out the reviews and thought I would pop in to see what this place was all about in hopes to get in to see someone. I am in the hospitality industry as well and don't think a greeting is to much to ask. It's to bad and I will take my business elsewhere.

I first visited Supernova for a consultation with Braden regarding a balayage on dyed hair, where he decided that I needed a colour correction to achieve the results I wanted. I was not given an estimate, however believed that I would be billed hourly for the duration of the correction + the service of the balayage. No one informed me otherwise. After a seven hour appointment, my bill came out to approximately $940 including tax and tip, meaning that the appointment was billed solely as a colour correction. I talked with Dana personally about my concern, where she insinuated that it was my responsibility to have known better. Dana informed me that any appointment with a colour correction will be billed as such for the duration of the appointment. However, based on the consultation I had with Braden, I was misled to believe that the colour correction was quick, and that the emphasis of the appointment would be the balayage. Their salon protocol was never apparent to me. There is evidently a lack of transparency in how her appointments are billed, which Dana was rude and argumentative about.

The culture at this salon is comparable to the best vibed salons I've been to in New York - I'm comparing them to Marie Robinson Salon in ambience, skill and precision like customer service. The team (and they are a team) from check in, to drink options, to hair wash (scalp massages to die for) are top notch professionals who know how to make a customer feel special and let's talk about the skill level of the technicians that make this place supreme. My hair always looks individualized to me from color matching skin tone to cut not just being the current trend but trended/balanced for my look - but I am always confident the style (cut & color) will be the most current techniques to keep me up with the times. Today I cried when I saw my hair because it was not just what I communicated, but it was above and beyond what I hoped for. Cutting technique I didn't know existed but brought new body and bounce to my hair. Hair color that was warm blonde and perfectly on trend/flattering. To quote, "I have a crush on myself" - lol, I felt that good leaving the salon. I should mention the last time I had a cut and color - both lasted a long time, beyond the regular window and that is a testament to great technique for both. Dana and her team are without a doubt the best in the business.

I won't disclose who did it, as they've had 7 months to potentially improve, and it would be unfair to name her at this point. I had bangs, and the woman who cut my hair made me hate them after a solid year of loving them. I let my bangs and my hair grow out entirely. You can imagine I was wary and nervous to get it cut again, until yesterday, where I saw Gillian, and she made me feel confident again! I have been to Super Nova multiple occasions as I bring my son to get his hair cut with Annie. She is absolutely amazing and always makes him feel really great (he really hates haircuts!) I recently called in to see if they sold a certain shampoo and conditioner and the woman at the reception said yes they had one set left. I asked if she could set it aside and she said yes please come in within two hours to pick it up. When I arrived within the two hours not only did I have to wait 10 minutes while she was on the phone booking appointments while there was someone else working the front desk, she proceeded to tell me she sold it before I arrived. To me this is poor business practise and I would not treat my clients this way. Not only that, she did not make me feel like a valued client.

Such a beautiful salon! I see Sabrina for cut and balayage/ombre. She is the best hairdresser I've ever gone to (her head massages are also amazing). She listens to what I'm describing, looks at pictures and then shows me colour samples to make sure we get the right colour. She so friendly and easy talk to but also lets me sit, relax and read while she applies the colour. The salon staff are all friendly and offer tea/coffee (refills too) right away. The layout of the salon is cool too, with a separate colour area so you're not sitting the same place for hours. The whole experience is wonderful!

She cut off 4 inches more then she said, and when i asked for layers, and bangs, and texture...she gave me a bell shaped hair cut, no layers, and a terrible 90's side fringe. My stylist, Zuzia, is very skilled, and took the time to shape my cut based on my hair and my frame, which resulted in an utterly fabulous cut! The salon is nice and inviting. I unfortunately did not have a good experience. I went for a shorter hairstyle - just above my shoulders. After my first visit I realized the stylist forget to trim one side of my hair, so I went back the following week to get it fixed. I wanted to be polite and hoped she realized the error herself. The stylist did not know how to fix it - she was asking me where it should be cut. I was trying my best to show her where I thought it needed to be cut - I told her I simply wanted both sides the same. I ended up leaving again with uneven hair - it is so bad that one side touches my shoulders (and hence flips out) and the other doesn't. Note this was an intermediate level stylist. I will need to get this fixed at another salon and will not return to Supernova. Edit: Supernova offered to have a master stylist fix my hair. Mathieu was great and will book him again. Thank you!

Great customer service. However, stay away if you have Asian hair. They do not know that Asian people have dark brown hair (not black hair)!! I brought my 70 year old mom in for her first treatment to cover some grey hair. As an Asian person, she has natural dark brown hair. However, the colour tech dyed her hair BLACK, so she looked like a gothic punk!! The tech defended her actions saying that she matched her hair colour, but obviously it does not match. If you have Asian hair, go to an Asian hair salon as their staff lacks the training for ethnically diverse clientele!!!

Really bad. My friend gave them at least 5 photos as examples and they cut it minimum 3 inches way too short. She had to wait for 20 minutes until she was encountered by one of the staff, the hair cut was done with layers that are extremely uneven and choppy, it's not the requested length (it's short when she requested medium length), not treated properly or welcomed whatsoever, overall just awful service. She was super upset and unpleased. Not impressed and never coming back. Not to mention that they charged her $50. (Hair was cut by Dora)

My stylist is Vicky, and she does MAGIC! I am neither kidding nor exaggerating. She is the BEST stylist I have ever worked with. I usually go to higher end places for my hair, but Vicky is one of a kind. You just ask her what you want, and she will get it done. My hair is really dark and fine/damaged, and she got me to a very nice blond (the exact colour I wanted) and gave me the best pixie cut which looks very full. In the past I have been to other salons but never have I had someone who understood my hair so well as Victoria. Most times I would come out and my hair would look finer and limp. I went in for a cut and balayage for the first time today with Bella. I moved to the area earlier this year and was looking for a salon nearby I could go to regularly. While in quarantine I felt inspired to change up my natural hair colour, but I was super nervous about getting my hair lightened. I was super excited to get my haircut after reading all the good reviews. Unfortunately, i left super disappointed. My hairdresser asked me how short was i thinking and i told her half of what she showed me. She still ended up cutting my hair super short as if my opinion never mattered. Also, she didn't have time to blowdry my hair because my "time was up" so she handed me over to another young hairdresser which took over an hour and half to blowdry my hair, and still all my roots were frizzy. When i got home my hair stank of products that it actually left me with a migraine and nausea. I had to rewash my hair which is a waste of time and money. If i'm spending that kind of money for a senior stylist i expect top of the line service with the same person from A to Z. If you have any type of textured hair, i would suggest to avoid this place, they do not know how to handle curly or textured hair. Sorry to say but you should consider changing your motto "love your hair" because i certainly did not. One last thing, I had to wear a mask the entire time which is completely against BC rules currently, masks are not mandatory anymore.

Best hair cut I've ever had and I walked out of the salon feeling fabulous. She told me about hair products that would work well with my hair, I can vouch for them - they work. My hair has never stayed curled longer than an hour and it lasted all day/night with her help. I 100% will be returning to Supernova and to have Klaudia cut my hair again. Can't wait.

BE AWARE!!! Ask for a receipt and go over your bill before you leave Supernova. Always confirm what you are getting done and how much it costs before Jude starts to do your hair. I have been a very long and loyal client of hers. I was extremely hurt and upset when I found out she totally took advantage of me by adding services (upswell) we never discussed. This is NOT the first time this happened to me. It happened to one of her long time client and I was there to experience how upset she was as well when she got her bill. She charged me for a “Toner Add on” that I never got. She confirmed that it was a mistake and I asked her for a refund of a extra charge. Her response was “I will ask a manager”. I waited it for 3 days for her to respond and never got back to me. I ended up calling Supernova to get my refund. A very poor customer service!!! BE AWARE....because she is a master stylist and she does not have an assistant to wash your hair. Jude charges $65 for a wash and blow dry which takes less than 15 minutes to do. I got a “Colour Solid 1” and “Full Balayage“. Wouldn’t anyone think that a wash should be a part of service when you get a colour done and a quick blow dry. It’s a tough time for everyone during Covid19 and we need to be more compassionate when it comes to business. Don’t take advantage of people who are there to support you!

I had never been to the salon before, but it came highly recommended by a friend. Emily was my stylist, and she was amazing. I didn’t know what I wanted, but knew I didn’t want anything too drastic for my first time. My biggest issue was my roots that were long and grey, the only thing I saw when I looked in the mirror. Emily coloured my roots perfectly and shaped my hair, taking off some length. I walked out feeling like a million dollars. Can’t wait for my next appointment. Thank you so much, Emily!!!

I had read all the 5 star reviews so when I made my first appointment at Supernova I had very high expectations - and I was not disappointed! The staff were the perfect combination of being helpful, friendly and professional. My stylist Mathieu was absolutely amazing. He asked questions, listened to my answers and actually got to know me and what would work best for my lifestyle. He is exceptionally skilled at both colour and cut. Love what he has created and what we will be working towards in the future. Mathieu made helpful suggestions for product - but wasn't pushy about it. The salon itself is very stylish and on trend but has a very comfortable environment. My time there flew by as Mathieu was so much fun! So excited for my next appointment.....

Previously I had given 5 star review to supernova however sad to say I’ll have to change it based on billing issues. So far I’ve had 3 or 4 appointments, the latest on October 3rd. I’ve had full highlights which was supposed to be $120 but by the time it was done it came to $200. I was told I was looking between $150-180 for a full balayage but by the time it was done on Oct 3, I was charged $258 before tip. My hairdresser has dealt with my hair before and it seems every time i am asked to pay more and more. I feel trapped when I am sitting on the chair and then I am told I need more product in my hair that’s going to cost extra (since I have dark hair, etc). What I am going to do at that point? No choice, walk out?! I shouldn’t be quoted a price then charged close to $100 more. That might be nothing for someone else but for me it’s a lot. I called to complain after I got home but the manager refused to give the phone to Dana, the owner, and quite unapologetically said they never know how much it’ll be until the hair is done. It hurts when you’re dealt with in a “dishonest” kind of way. I won’t be back, as much as I like the salon and the hairstyle. I am quite disappointed and feel ripped off.

I went to this salon for colour corrections and a fresh head of hair, I got that and some. Veronica was my stylist and she is absolutely awesome, so talented and such a wonderful person. The time and effort she put in to me was second to none, she took the time to fully understand my hair and my vision and she really made it come to life! I am beyond happy with the results, I really couldn’t recommend this place more. Also huge thank you to Kendra & Claudia who were super patient and accommodating.
