I had an appointment last winter with a hairdresser who specializes in curly cuts (dry cuts). I was excited about such a find, so I called to book an appointment... a month away. Fine, I scheduled the appointment, and patiently waited a month for the date to roll around. They called me a few days before to confirm the appointment. The day of the appointment rolled around, I get there, they bring me to the hairdresser who takes one look at my hair and asks"why is your hair in a ponytail with product"? Apparently, to get the dry cut, you're supposed to wash your hair two days prior, not put any styling products in and leave your hair down. All information that the salon had failed to share with me at the time of booking my appointment or when they called to confirm. I told the hairdresser as much, and asked if she could wash my hair quickly and dry it before giving me the dry cut. "No", she replied, "there's no time and I have other clients". But they still washed my hair before cutting my hair... drying my hair with just a blowdryer would've taken an additional 10 minutes at the very most. I asked for a cut to get rid of all the dead ends as it had been several months since I cut my hair. She must've cut at the very most half an inch... The salon then tried to charge me the full price for the dry cut, which is about $15 to $20 more than a regular cut. That's when I put my foot down and said no, as they hadn't delivered on what they had promised. The hairdresser in question and the employees of the salon didn't really seem to care about providing the basic level of service to the clients. As a comparison, a month later I went to Florida where I accompanied my cousin to a curly hair salon for a deep treatment... upon seeing my hair, the hairdresser said "you really need a good haircut. Is it ok if I go ahead and cut your hair"? even though i wasn't scheduled for a cut. She cut off all the split ends I had, which was a LOT, not normal considering my "haircut" at Au Premier had been just 4 weeks prior... That's the difference between good customer service and just keeping up appearances. The only reason I didn't give the salon + experience 1 star is because of the complimentary express makeover they give you before you leave. WOW, the makeup artist was not only a sweetheart but gave me such a wonderful yet understated makeover. I left the salon feeling like a million bucks only because of the makeup, and not my hair, unfortunately. Live and learn, I guess.

She specializes in curly hair and in pixie cuts. And Ben colours my hair. He’s a platinum specialist. When you call for your first appointment, tell them everything you can about your hair, and they will place you with the stylist who will best serve you. Then go get pampered

Extremely unimpressed, worst pedicure experience ever. Visited from Toronto. Went to Au Premier Spa for deluxe pedicure with sister, on promo for $72. I was taken in separately, when sister tried to join me was told to leave the room! Was brought in to join me 5-10 minutes later - estheticians had not been advised we were together. Pedicure was okay and my esthetician’ Kavita was very nice. Sister was finished 15 minutes before me and was told she had to leave the room. When done, I joined her in reception and had to ask for fan to dry toenails. After 30-40 minutes, we had to ask for nails to be checked. Different esthetician than either of us had checked nails and said fine - I said mine still felt sticky, but she said they would be fine and covered with vaseline and plastic wrap. Got home and big chunks of polish gone and nails a wreck. Called spa and told by receptionist that no room to have me come back, but that I would receive full reimbursement. Asked for Manager. Got supervisor Etty and was offered appointment at 4:00 which I could not do, then at 2:30 - all too late as plans already made for final day in Montreal. Then told would not be given full reimbursement, as pedicure was fine - just getting a credit for $24 for polish replacement. No apologies, no offers of something to make it all up, no ability for me to come in then for me to have the wrecked polish taken off - just $24. Told them to put it on my sister’s account. Extremely unimpressed , their response was completely unprofessional and lacking in any remote form of customer service, worst pedicure experience ever.

I've found my new salon! I was a bit hesitant to try Au Premier because of some bad reviews I had read... All the reviews seemed to be either 5 or 1 star. My experience was great and I left feeling very happy (which is rare for me at a salon!). Everyone was very polite and professional. The appointment began with a neck, shoulder, and scalp massage and then a hair wash. I was then given a latte (which was super!) and sat down with Jessica for my cut. She's a junior stylist and is only 40$ which is what my student wallet liked when making the appt. Heres what I didn't like from my appt: I sat down and described what I wanted. She began cutting my hair and then asked me to sit aside while she finished her previous client. I was a little suprised and sat there for almost 10 minutes with dripping wet hair. After she took me back, everything else went well. The cut is EXACTLY what I wanted and she did an amazing job. She styled it and prefected it, and then I was given a makeup touchup. After a student discount, the whole treatment came to 35$ plus tip. Super great! Giving 4 start because of the whole start stop issue but I will be back for sure.

I've been going to this salon for years, mainly because I love my colorist. I have used different hair dressers over the years and they are usually quite good. However, the receptionists are extremely rude. The reason for my rating is that it is not the first time the salon cancels my appointment at the last minute. Typically, they cancel the hair dresser, but not the colorist. You would think that one of the reasons you go to a relatively large salon like Au Premier is because they could easily reschedule you with another hair dresser. Not so! So, they tell me that I can have my color, but that they do not have any other hairdresser available. And (wait for it) they are already fully booked for the drying station (where people dry their hair by themselves). Am I supposed to leave with a hefty bill and my hair still wet?

My bridal party and I had our hair and makeup done here for my wedding in August 2015. The entire process was so easy and stress free with the Au Premier team. Renee took care of scheduling, and she did that perfectly (she told me we'd be in a 9:00 am and out by 11:45am... we were in and out EXACTLY as she said!). Our hair was just beautiful - Tina and Lily are so good at listening to what you want, and giving you exactly that. Our hair lasted all day and well into the night after hours of dancing. Our makeup was also perfect, lasted all day, and looked wonderful in photos. I would HIGHLY recommend to any bride to get her hair and makeup done here for their big day. I've also been coming back here ever since my wedding to get my hair done. Always a good experience!

I have been here a few times for colour and cut. The service is ok overall but the last time my colourist burnt my left ear and scalp when dying my hair. I mentioned at the time my skin felt like it was burning and she shrugged it off saying it wasn’t the dye but maybe the cream she used to protect my skin. Wrong. The girl who washed my hair also must not have done a good job rinsing. At the end I woke up the next day to burnt ears and scalp. I’ve been using cortisone to soothe it the last few months and it still hasn’t healed.

I got a haircut a while from one of their employees named Sherrie. She didn't have an once of professionalism when addressing me. She was looking at me up and down and would gossip with other customers about me. I wanted to run out of the salon as I was sensing other hairdressers heavy eyes on me. Let me start off by saying that I've had haircuts here in the past that I really liked. However, after my most recent experience, I won't be back. Earlier this week, I saw Dorys, a "senior stylist." I told him I just wanted a trim, I wanted to keep as much length as possible and showed him a picture of what I wanted (a long angled bob.) He glanced at it and said "okay." During the cut, I had my glasses off so I couldn't see what he was doing, and he did a completely different cut than I asked for (think of the Rachel from Friends). He then styled it so I couldn't see the short layers he'd put in everywhere, including around my face. When I realized a few hours later how short he'd gone, I went home and cried. They are so short that it will take me at least 6 months to get back the length they did have. When I spoke to the staff at the salon, they were very concerned and helpful and seemed committed to resolving the problem. However, then Dorys called me back. He freely admitted that he'd done a different cut and kept repeating that he was "trying to help me" because my ends were damaged. I told him he should have communicated that with me BEFORE cutting the hair off and he asked why I was so upset. I'm upset because he didn't give me a choice, he gave me a cut that doesn't match my personal style, he didn't give me the cut that I asked and paid for, and now I'm stuck wearing it until it grow out some more. He tried to offer me free highlights to make up for it, but I wouldn't trust that man near my head ever again. Not once did he apologize for what he'd done. They did kindly refund what I paid (except the $15 tip I regret leaving) and I'll be using that to see a stylist at another salon to hopefully get it to something closer to what I wanted. That said, the cut is well done. I would recommend Dorys ONLY IF you are looking for a new style that's a complete surprise. What's good here: The massages are really nice, many stylists do good work, the staff are professional although always rushed. What's bad here: The stylist may completely ignore what you want. In response to his response: At the beginning, we talked about wanting to keep length and I mentioned a friend had cut my hair much too short several years ago. I also showed him a picture and he said we would do that cut. We did not talk about the bleach until after the hair wash, when he tried to brush it out wet. He says I complained about difficulty combing my hair, but he must be misremembering since I rarely comb it as it doesn't really get tangled unless it's wet. He says "perhaps I should have been clearer" and "I did express that I could not achieve the cut you were hoping for due to the situation" but that is a complete lie. He did not say a single word about the changes he was making or indicate that he was not going to do the same type of cut I showed him. He even deliberately styled the hair to hide the shorter sections so I didn't notice them until I got home and the styling came out. UPDATE: Today Dorys called and texted me from his personal cell phone to offer me another haircut and balayage if I remove the review. He asked me to give him a chance, but I already gave him a chance with the original cut, when he chose to do a different cut without even discussing it with me. This is starting to feel like harassment. UPDATE 3 years later: It took me EIGHTEEN MONTHS to grow out those godawful layers. EIGHTEEN MONTHS.

In over 30 years of using hair salon services, I tried this salon for the first time but my hair was damaged for the first time in my entire life. I wasn't sure until I got a professional referral but Au Premiere said they can't do anything because too much time has passed. I think the service is very poor. Even if a lot of time has passed, they should be able to do something about it. The perm didn't come out complete at all and professional hair stylists said my hair was not done well and it was incomplete and damaged.

At the beginning, everything was fine, the massage was very nice and the shampoo fast but good enough. The service was courteous, however a few things made me realize I won't be coming back. Firstly, I've never been to a salon that does not provide a cape, I had hair all over me. A "bathrobe" that barely covers the legs when sitting is not enough and it does not prevent bits of hair in the sweater. For the rest, it was more the way the hairdresser handled my hair that disappointed me. I could see he was qualified, he was fast and confident, but lacked delicacy. To the point that due to his abrupt movements my piercing (helix) fell, he apologized at least! So after all this and for a cut I do not like (realized after washing my hair at home) : 92$. So yeh.. Not worth it.

I am cutting my hair here for 3 years. Although I am not always happy with the result, and there is a lot of room for improvement (in fact I would give a 3.5 stars instead of 4 if I could) overall it is a fairly solid place with good staff and service and I would recommend it with a few words of caution. 1) The welcoming staff is extremely, annoyingly and unnecessarily pretentious: this is a hair saloon folks not the Queen's palace. For instance when you have an appointment with a new hairdresser, they insist on going to greet him or her before the appointment, which only disturbs him/her, especially that they are always in a hurry, and makes it for a very awkward situation: the hairdresser always asks me "so what are we doing today" and I have to reply "we are cutting my hair" as there is no time for chitchat in the middle of his/her other current appointment, it is ridiculous I wish they would stop this practice. This "attention to detail' should be put to better use. 2) The hairdresser is very often rushing, probably not to be late for the next appointment resulting in a 15-20 min of actual haircut, which is not so much for a $40 appointment. That would not be a problem if the results would always be good, but they are not and I feel awkward to ask her to redo some parts when he/she is telling me that he/she are finished. 3) When I make an appointment for say 2:30 they tell me after that I have to be there at 2:15 for shampooing. Sorry, but what is the point of making an appointment at 2:30 if I have to come at 2:15, it should be a 2:15 appointment. I always spend 10 min on the phone to negotiate the time: she asks me, I have a slot at 2:30, I checked my calendar I say yes, I can make it, then she says ok so be there at 2:15, and I have to reply, no, 2:15 is not good did you not just say 2:30 appointment, why do you change it now? does this make sense to you? I understand of course that they mean that I see the hairdresser at 2:30, but it is really annoying and it would be great if you could manage this 15min extra internally and give me the final time to be there. 4) The free head massage. I had it a few times, I personally do not like it at all: the staff who does it seems to have little training and it rather annoying me rather than relaxing me. Still perhaps other people like it and it is optional, but perhaps you could add frills in other aspects of the service such as better drinks or more secure place for our belongings, I always have to carry my big bag with me because the storage is not secure. 5) Lastly, my hairdresser quit the salon and they did not want to give me his new contacts. I found out later that he started his own saloon relatively close by. The fact that they did not disclose that (I am pretty sure that they knew) perhaps for fear of losing clients I found it very petty and unprofessional. You should welcome competition and treat them fairly.

When I first got there, everything was going great, the head massage and wash went well people at the front desk were very nice and welcoming until I went to get my hair cut. The girl I got was not very friendly she never talked only to ask wht kind of cut i wanted. I showed her and told her the length. She cut it an inch to much and it is not even, and it is not what I wanted. She did not put one of those caps to cover you so I got all the small hairs all over me, I also got my eye brows done and what I got done for that price I will never be getting them done there again. I tired this place because my friend said they were good and worth trying, but I have never left a hair salon and hated my hair cut. I do not believe I will be going back.

I went for a colouring and hair cut. I did not get to the haircut, because the girl that coloured my hair, burned my scalp. She blamed it on allergies, but she did the tests. They used Aveda products, and i have used their products in the past as well. I have no allergies. I have been dying my hair for years, and i have never felt such a burning sensation like this before. I am convinced that she completely messed up the mix. After she washed the products off, she did the allergy test, and she let me go. She let me go with my hair wet, she did ask me indeed, if i want to blow my hair. But i would have thought that, considering the distress she caused, she would just tell me, come on, we will dry your hair now. It"s like 2 degrees outside. My shirt was wet from the hair washing, she has not removed the wet towel from my back. I felt like she just wanted to get rid of me. Very very disappointed.

The service is always top notch--I've never been unhappy with a haircut, a massage, etc. The only disappointing thing is they don't offer discounts if you want to get a "package deal" for a group or for multiple services (e.g. hair, makeup, and nails). But overall the important thing is you get your money's worth.

I obviously wanted a cut but also (and above all) advice on the different techniques / products to use for my hair type so that I could take better care of my curls. The staff were welcoming and super professional but the end result really left something to be desired. I have never had as few curls as when I left my date and I was super disappointed. I wanted to wash my hair a few times with my routine to see the real result of the cut with my routine and it's ok but nothing more. I got my hair cut maybe 2 months ago. Service is great, staff is friendly, but sadly did not get a good haircut. Would not recommend if you have Asian hair. The hairdresser, Galit (?), first did not cut my hair at all as I wanted. I asked for just above the shoulders, layered. She gave me below the shoulders straight cut. Called saying I was unsatisfied, they offered a recut with the same girl. I probably should have asked for a different person, that was my fault. I go in with pictures this time and so she cut my hair the length I want but then proceeds to give me incredibly short, choppy layers. I showed her the length I wanted the layers, so she cuts it that length while my hair is wet, not taking into account that when dry, hair will have volume and the cut will be higher. Also took a hair straightener to my already pin straight hair, as if that would hide it's newfound shagginess. Anyways, other stylists seemed competent, just would not recommend if you have Asian hair/ would not recommend this particular stylist.

CURLY HAIR? Do NOT go here. They have no idea how to work with curly hair. Very cramped and noisy salon. At the wash basins, your elbows are likely to touch the people beside you. My hairdresser cut off way more hair than we agreed to. I was very clear about lenght and layering. Her trick? Get the thinning shears out - somehow this didn't count as layering. Should take my hair 2-3 months to get back to normal. AVOID

Possibly the worst “blow dry” I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. The original stylist I was put with was running late so I was given to another stylist. I would love to give you her name but I didn’t get it. I was brought over to the sink to wash my hair. The assistant brushed my hair roughly in the sink without conditioning despite me clearly having bleached and sensitive hair that should not be manhandled when wet. The stylist put some product in my hair without telling me what it was. She had asked me before I got washed what I wanted and I said specifically blow dry with curls, lots of volume. When I had spoken to the receptionist on the phone, I said the same thing. She dried my hair with a paddle brush in about 5 minutes and then went over my hair (which I was not sure was 100% dry) with a straightener without blow drying my hair properly with a round brush and giving me 0 volume. She started curling at my root giving the illusion of volume, which might have fooled someone who didn’t go to hairdressing school and work at two salons previously. She used barely any hairspray despite me telling her my hair falls easily. As you can see in the picture, one side of my hair is now way longer than the other because it was not curled well and not enough hairspray was used. I was in her chair for maybe 20 minutes and it cost me $50 for an insultingly subpar experience. She made me take off my glasses even though they were not in the way, so I couldn’t see what she was doing. She asked me if I liked it before my glasses were even back on. Once they were on, I saw there was a bump on top she kept trying to smooth down and that she had curled my bangs towards my face. My hair is a frizzy, ugly mess and I didn’t get what I asked or paid for. The worst part is that this was my first time going into a salon since Covid started and I was so looking forward to having some me time. I haven’t done anything for myself in two years, and I left regretful and feeling like I shouldn’t have bothered trying. This was not worth the heat damage.

A 5 star review is better late then never. I had my hair done by Galit roughly mid November. I had an amazing experience, everyone was very professional but extremely kind and patient. She did a wonderful job on my hair. I hadn't had it professionally done in almost 5 years mostly due to my own laziness but my experience at Au Premier has changed my mentality completely. Being a little pampered was alot of fun and the prices are reasonable. Will definitely be making another appointment in the near future!

My mother, boyfriend and I got our haircut here today. My mother and I both had a great experience with our hairdressers, but my boyfriend had his hair cut by a woman named Alice who was incredibly rude and actually cut his neck with the razor to the point where he was bleeding; the worst part is she barely apologized and said 'don't you trust me' and later asked him 'are you sure you're at the right place?' SO RUDE! The receptionist Reana was incredibly apologetic and put disinfectant and a band aid on the cut and gave him a free bottle of shampoo. I'm giving this place 2 stars because my mother and I really had a great experience, but I definitely won't be coming back again because of the rudeness my boyfriend experienced. Sad that one awful hairdresser ruined our day. Stay away from Alice!!

Really happy they did as i love the salon. Because of busy schedule i move around the stylists and colorists and have never been disappointed. Ambience is hip and not stuffy. They listen to what i am looking for and then i simply sit, relax and close my eyes. Love going there. After going for years to Au Premier and always being treated so well, today I am disappointed. I was greeted with « attitude » that set a wrong tone for the appointment that didn’t go well. Although, it was one out of many that have been always great. It is impressive how seriously they take your feedback. I was contacted by the Au Premier and they were extremely nice and attentive to my feedback. What a great place! I will definitely go back, as Au Premier ready does care and wants to make sure every and each of us feel beautiful. Going to an evening gala Told to bring pics of updo . Final result was messy and fell flat! Had makeup done. I had to ask for eyeliner and She forgot to do my eyebrows. In the end I went home and undid the hair and styled it way better myself. Maybe some staff are better than others but if you want to get new clients don't give them a dilitant. I have been coming to au premier for years. During the last year there has been many changes in receptionists. Ever since then my appointments have always been getting mixed up or when they call to confirm they have been telling me the incorrect times. I show up always half an hour or an hour early and then I tell them that when I received the confirmation they told me the incorrect time. The continue to go on about how its my fault. Secondly, I got a manicure a few days ago. It is now 5 days later and my nails are all chipped when my manicure always used to last me at least 7 days. On top of this I needed to come back the day after my manicure because the aesthetician make my polish extremely thick to the point where my nails couldn't even dry. The prices on the website are incorrectly listed as well.

I've been going there for a couple years now and always see Lilly, a pettite blond girl who never let's me go without perfecting every layer! Can't speak for the other stylists but I am always happy with Lilly. I have referred many friends to see her, all of which love her cuts. Receptionists are polite and efficient, all that should be expected from front of house staff. A couple snooty looking faces on some of the makeup artists and stylists but hey, everyone can't be happy all the time. One of the best places I've had my hair done in Montreal.

I then saw Tina for my cut and style who really took the time to listen to my needs and wants. Everyone is so friendly and professional. The spa services are reasonably priced and around the same that you would find elsewhere. But the salon is overpriced in my opinion. I've been going here for a few years now and it's a very nice place. However, since there are many aestheticians who work there, the quality of the service you receive will be different every time unless you specifically request an aesthetician for the service. This is probably what bothers me the most - the level of care and attention of the aestheticians is not the same, and if my preferred aesthetician is not available when I would need my appointment, I know that the service I'll receive with another won't be of the same standard. All the hairstylists have their own fees based on their experience. You'll probably be paying somewhere around 40-50$ for an appointment with a junior stylist, and some of the senior stylists can have their prices in the 80-90$ range. And if you have long and thick hair, be ready to pay an extra 10$ surcharge. Regardless of that, the place is very clean and professional. Even though the quality of the service may not be the same every time I go if the appointment is with a different aesthetician, I don't hesitate to get my brazillian done here. Everything is clean and they don't double-dip in the wax, so I am not at all concerned by the hygiene standards and trust them.

J'ai répliqué que je n'aurais jamais accepté un rendez-vous le 6 juillet parce que j'avais un événement sportif ce jour là. On m'a proposé de reprendre un rendez vous mais sur le coup je n'ai pas voulu parce que la situation m'a vraiment irrité. On m'a offert de téléphoner en cas d'annulation, disant que ça arrivait assez souvent et j'ai accepté, mais je n'ai pas eu d'appels donc j'imagine qu'il n'y a pas eu d'annulation et je n'ai eu aucun autre suivi. Bref, on se "cache" derrière le fait que si le rendez-vous n'est pas confirmé, il n'y a pas de rendez-vous, mais comme j'avais pris le rendez vous la semaine juste avant le samedi 29 juin je ne m'attendais pas à un rendez vous de confirmation. J'ai pris rendez vous pour le 29 août prochain en demandant un petit rabais comme dédommagement de 10% même si j'y allais un jeudi plutôt qu'un lundi ou mardi, vu que je me suis rendu pour rien et avec le voyagement et les fermetures - que j'avoue n'est pas la faute de Au Premier mais quand même - je me suis tappé TROIS heures aller-retour avec une occasion dans la journée où je n'ai même pas pu être coiffée. Et on me répond que la salon n'offre pas de politique de dédommagement quelconque. J'espère que ça va avoir valu les 7$ de perdre une cliente à vie parce que n'y retournerai plus si on ne remédie pas à la situation. Franchement très désolant pour un salon avec cette réputation. Tant que tout va bien, tout va bien, mais c'est lorsqu'il se passe des situations comme celles là qu'on apprend à connaître réellement la qualité du service à la clientèle. Je vais m'ennuyer de Sherrie, mais je ne peux pas accepter ça.

I have gone to Au Premier a few times and first times I had great experiences. However, the last time I went in was different. The lady who cut my hair (can't remember her name) obviously just wanted to be done with my hair and leave for the day. She didn't give me close to what I wanted. And for some reason kept giving her co-workers weird looks like she was was just generally annoyed that she had to cut my hair. Then the lady at the counter ignored me when I just wanted to pay and leave. The lady who gave me the head massage was super nice and so was the guy who washed my hair. But the hairdresser left the worst impression ever and after being a customer for a few years I won't be going back.
