Great place for a guy to get his hair cut. I have been to many places in New West for haircuts over the years, but now I always go to Essence. Always a great cut, the way I want it. The ladies are very friendly, ready with good advice it you need it, lots of laughter and good conversation.

A very sincere thank you to Lorna at Essence Hair Design for giving a perfect new look. At my workplace we do a blog when we have new collections come in and I am the model. I went to Lorna the day of the picture taking and asked for a new look. Something fresh. Gave her free reign to do what she wanted. I looked fantastic!!! When I arrived at work my boss exclaimed, `Yes, love it this hair cut``. Once the blog went out to our customers I had two of them come into the store just to see the new do. One of the ladies from head office sent me a ``love the new hair`` note. I couldn`t feel any better. In a couple of weeks I will go back to get Amy to freshen up the colour and as always will immediately get compliments as it looks so natural. Several days ago, my younger sister came in to see Lorna for a scheduled hair appointment-- only to be turned down because of the state of her hair. She described the way Lorna reacted to her hair at first glance was extremely unprofessional, as Lorna exclaimed "Oh my god" when she saw her hair. My sister was initially under the impression that Lorna would be able to take great care of her hair, especially because she knew that Lorna has had years of experience and great reviews. However, I'm extremely upset to know that my sister came home in tears and felt attacked because of Lorna's reaction. She did not stay for her appointment, and excused herself out of the premise because of how uncomfortable she felt. As a person who's also a part of the beauty industry, I would suggest to asks clients beforehand about the state of their hair, just so they won't be any surprises or negative experiences like this. Or, to perhaps see that hair makes you go "Oh my god!" as a challenge that will improve your skills, rather than an exclamation of something that makes another person feel hopeless about their hair and general well-being. Hair concerns are personal, just like any skin concern or any cosmetic-related concerns. Please be more mindful of how to react to a client's needs, and express more patience and kindness to them.

Booked an appointment over phone = not mention about face mask Got a reminder call = not mention about face mask Arrived on time for my appointment = they charge 1.5$ for one face mask I left. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I immediately went to another hair salon located at New Westminster station, and I told owner that I do not have a face mask with me. The owner said: "I will give you one". I got a Free face mask and had my hair done ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do not mind wearing mask at all. And I give 15% tip every time since 2018 when I visited this salon to do my hair. And now you charge me 1.5$ for one face mask. At T&T supermarket, 50 face masks = 29.99 +tax (less than 1 dollar per face mask) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My family and I have been seeing Lorna at Essence for over 8 years. Going to Essence is such a wonderful, fun and welcoming experience. Every time I step through the doors the atmosphere is warm and friendly and I can always count on walking out happy with my new hair style :) I have referred many friends and family to Essence and they always come out raving about how wonderful the experience was. Every time I go in to get my hair done I feel like part of the "Essence family", it is more than just a salon it is a community of amazing, kind and hard working people. On top of the general experience, I believe that the quality of work is stellar. The product used, the care shown towards everyone's hair and quality assurance is more than I had expected. They take extra care to make sure that each person that walks out the door is happy with their hair. I will never go to another salon to get my hair done :)

Had the absolute best experience at this salon! Hairdressers were both so friendly and I can't believe what Amy was able to do with my hair. I've been a natural blonde my whole life but she made it the PERFECT brown, and also they're so knowledgeable about the latest hair trends here. 10/10 would recommend, definitely going to be my new go-to place.

I had a wonderful experience today with Brian, he has lots of great knowledge if you want to ask questions about your hair and just a joy to talk to! He’s been styling for the last 20 years and I would definitely recommend him. I have long hair and always get worried of hairstylists cutting off too much. It was exactly what I wanted and the style was perfect :-) The studio has wonderful decor and a great family feel too it. So what are you waiting for? Go get beautified ????

I was just reading reviews of Essence and there was a picture of a woman with perfectly texturized hair - the stylist at Essence completely controlled the perm technology to give the customer waves but not curls, body but not brillo - and the result is gorgeous! I'm so impressed to find a local hair salon that can do leading-edge highly technical work - I have someone I'll be sending your way! So after looking at the photo, I was shocked to see that the woman with the gorgeous hair thanks to Essence gave the shop a poor rating and complained about the price - skilled work doesn't come for free. You can't get champagne-level work if you only want to pay peanuts.

I had my hair cut there last August before all the shutdowns/restrictions. I know you can still get your hair done right now, but I've been too nervous about going out anywhere that isn't a necessity. As soon as more people get the covid shot I'll be coming back here. They were lovely, and my hair looked bomb! They're definitely going to become my regular salon.

I am recently new to New Westminster and I had my hair coloured yesterday by Bryan at Essence Hair Design Studio. I needed a colour correction because of a previous disaster. Well what can I say , it was fabulous! Brian is very professional and knowledgeable and takes the time time to explain what needs doing to your hair and why. He was truly amazing and we also had quite a lot of laughs as well. Lorna the owner of the salon is also a beautiful and wonderful lady, it is such a warm and friendly salon and very welcoming. I’ve been going to Lorna off and on for over 10 years. Off and on because I’ve twice moved away from the Lower Mainland and during those ‘off’ times I have never found a hairstylist and superb hair cutter that comes close to Lorna’s level of professionalism and talent. I leave her salon feeling very happy with my hair cut and I remain happy until my next visit. She is the only hairdresser whose cuts are so good that I always get compliments from strangers and often weeks after my hair was done. I can also say that Amy does excellent cuts as well as she once did my hair when Lorna had a broken wrist. This salon prides itself on customer service and excellent results.

My appointment last week was "over the top" I scheduled to have a simple wash and blow dry for a special event that evening. Lorna commented of my fading colour .....my fault for being out in the sun without a hat. With quick efficiency under Lorna's care I was transformed....refreshed hair colour and smart sleek style. I always wanted the kind of hair stylist you see in the movies, one that becomes your friend and knows what's going on in your life. A stylist who not only knows what they are doing but makes the appointment fun. I got my Hair colored by Bryan and it was the best BJ (blonde job) I've ever had. My hair felt strong and nourished after (usually it feels like straw after bleaching) I'll never go to anyone else and look forward to catching up every few months when I need my roots touched up.
