Wonderful place! My hair was so damaged and they really fixed me up. I had ugly brassy orange hair and all dried out, now my hair is silky smooth with their smoothing treatment. I feel like a hot mama!! Lol i had to bring my 2 1/2 year old with me and Leila was super helpful and understanding when he was getting rowdy. Pleasant staff and great service! This was my first time coming here and I was greeted with such a lively and exciting energy from the woman doing my hair, Janice! The environment of the salon was super clean and very comforting. I got an undercut along with shorter hair, and Janice offered lots of helpful tips and tricks to maintain my new hairstyle. She also gave her opinion on what hair length would frame my face best and I look STUNNING! Overall, 30/10 experience, and I'm super happy with how it turned out.

Went hoping for new hair style to accomadate slight balding in front. Got the same hair cut I would get at great clips and paid $50 after tip which I gave because the staff was polite and the "stylist" was a very nice guy and seemed skilled other than where he screwed up around my ear. I definitely won't go back... but this is just due to my unique situation.

Burned my hair off ... literally. I went in for highlights and he stylist left the foils in too long. When she came over to check, she took one foil off and said they needed 5 more minutes and she was going out “for a smoke.” The strand that she took out FELL OFF!!!! I called another stylist over to help and she quickly washed my hair out, but the damage was done. As if that wasn’t bad enough ... THEY CHARGED ME THE FULL AMOUNT!!! I will never go back there again.

Cassandra is the only person I let touch my hair. I have unruly curls that will turn into literal frizz if they aren't handled with the utmost care (they are high maintenance, what can I say). She has taken very good care of them and has taught me how to take care of them. It helps that Cassandra makes me laugh and that Carly laughs at my jokes and makes me smile, as well!

Terrible! Absolutely not sending my daughter back here again. My daughter thought this place would do such good job on her hair but instead they ruined it for her. The person that did her hair didn’t know her colors. Doesn’t know the difference between blonde and gray. She told the lady and even showed her the picture of the color she wanted which was blonde, well my daughter’s hair turned GRAY! Like an old person. That lady left her on the chair with the toner for more than 2 hours just because she was doing another client. She then asked another person to wash my daughter’s hair. No one still went to attend to her.until a man that works there went up to her and asked that lady about my daughter. Well obviously she forgot about her. Now I’m thinking just because my daughter is young and doesn’t have any adult with her , they took advantage of her and didn’t care much . And this makes me so upset! That lady should have just turned down to serve my daughter if she knows she’s busy with other clients instead . Now because of this , my daughter is the one suffering. Imagine she paid $309.00 to get something she didn’t ask and even ruined her hair. I cannot believe how unprofessional these people are at the salon. You people should treat your clients equal. Just Bec she’s young you can just take her for granted. Well you got the money and my daughter’s hair looks really bad. When that lady saw the result of her carelessness she then told my daughter to just wash it more often to get rid of the gray. WHAT THE@#&@#& ! She knew she made a mistake ! She should at least not charge her that much, my daughter didn’t even get a hair cut it was just belayage, and didn’t even curl her hair after (Bec my daughter refused and I don’t blame her , she just wanted to go home and leave that place. I give Backstage Hair Salon 5 thumbs down ???????? ???????? ???????????????????????? I do not recommend this place 188 Queen St S, at all to anyone. They don’t listen to what you asked for, they charge too much, they don’t attend to you 100% , they take young ones for granted . My daughter even gave her a tip just Bec her dad who doesn’t know what was happening told her to when he came to pick her up. So please people if you want a very good service do not come to this place. The lady that serviced her was a Senior Stylist name Carmen. You just made a very unhappy girl today! She’s been putting her hair up in a bun and covering it with her hood. ☹️???? this review doesn’t even deserve 1 star!

Carly is an absolute dream. This was my first time at the salon and definitely won't be my last. The energy here is wonderful and the results are incredible for the price. Carly fully listened to what I wanted (2N - black brown) and identified the shade that would be perfect for my skin tone (ashy 2N with no warm tones). She did an amazing colour job, blow-dry and flat ironing process. The other staff here was also super sweet. Such a great atmosphere and I'm finally so happy with my hair.

She was a true professional, and to be honest, surprised me with her kindness (which sad to say, is becoming rare these days). She styled my hair for my graduation and it looked FANTASTIC. Quick backstory - I needed a trim so badly and one day I found myself calling multiple salons with the best reviews and none of them would take me in. I called Sage (back then known as Backstage). Whoever answered their phone was SUPER FRIENDLY! She said she had to call me back for a technical reason I now forgot, but either way, she did call me back (which some don't even bother). And she managed to squeeze me in that day and had put me with Kaitlynn. Because of this - I am so thankful that I found Sage Hair Studio AND Kaitlynn because I have never been so happy with the service and how my hair always feels after. Kaitlynn is a stylist that really knows her stuff AND customer service - she listens to her clients, asks questions, makes recommendations without being pushy with it, and most of all, she is so much fun to work with and talk to! I always enjoy my time with her and my hair seems to like her hands too LOL, the turnout is always beautiful and I walk out feeling completely satisfied with everything. I always look forward to coming back. Thank you Kaitlynn and Sage Hair Studio! So glad I have you guys <3 P.S. They also play the best music everyone can jam to ahahaha #SALONDANCEPARTY j/k. EDIT: Terrible! Terrible! After I left those reviews, Ross asked me to contact him and I did but it seems like they only care about the bad review and not genuinely trying to help. I won't even bother contacting them anymore since they will just ignore my email again. Please backstage, stop trying to make yourself "look" like you're customer oriented and actually "be" customer oriented. Thanks no thanks. Edit: I was asked to contact their salon, I emailed, messaged them on instagram however noone cared to reply.. I'll give it 0 star now. I don't know why everyone giving this salon good reviews. On my first appointment, she bleached my hair once and one on some patches where the bleach didn't reach properly. She said every additional bleach is 150 dollars extra or something. It was a one and half bleaching session and she charged me 350 dollars! It's my good nature that I even tipped her on top of that. And let's not even talk about how she didn't blow-dry or style my hair after the bleach. I was left with a damaged bushy orange hair and walked out the salon feeling ashamed of my hair. I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone

This was my first time going to Sage Hair Studio. I got my haircut by Carly and I loved the experience. Carly was able to give me the exact haircut I wanted and explained how exactly she would be doing to my hair to achieve it and made sure that I was comfortable with it. My hair turned out amazing! The atmosphere was great and Carly made me feel very welcomed. Definitely going back for my next haircut, would definitely recommend!

Do not go here if you're hoping to use a Wayspa gift card!! My service was good. Carly was friendly, on time and attentive to what I was looking for. 5 stars for service. Taking 2 stars off because when I booked on the phone I mentioned I had a Wayspa gift card I was saving to use for my long-awaited haircut - fine, no problem. It wasn't until after my service was done and I was paying that I was told Wayspa gift cards rarely work, or they take a long time/many attempts to process and they couldn't accept it. (?!?!?!) They did offer to hold my gift card and apply it to my account for future services... so why couldn't they take the card and apply it to THIS service?? Not pleased that I had to unexpectedly pay out of pocket. Unfortunately, this was not a great way to end my visit and I will likely not be returning, despite the good hairstyling service.

I came for an updo with my mother on Saturday at 9am for a wedding. My mom was very happy with her stylist, who was ready to start at 9am. My stylist arrived late, starting on my hair at 9:30 (appointment was 1 hr, 9-10) - the weather was not good and she was delayed on her drive. I understand that these things happen, but we were really disappointed with how the stylist and the salon management handled the situation. When she arrived, she apologized for being late but did not acknowledge the impact this would have on my service. For example, recognizing that I may either get less time in the chair and discussing what styles she could do in the timeframe, or establishing whether she or I had the flexibility to go over time. The consultation was incredibly rushed. I did not feel comfortable asking questions, she was rushed to the point of asking me to brush out my own hair while she prepared other things. It was an uncomfortable experience, I somehow felt that I was a problem she was trying to fix. The salon did not acknowledge what had happened when we paid, and did not offer any compensation. I'm disappointed with the customer service and wouldn't return. Following up on the owner's response, I don’t know how the stylist could have not realized there was a timing issue when she was half an hour late for a one hour appointment. It would have been her responsibility to address how this would change my service, not mine. In response to your comment about the final result, I purposefully did not comment on this in my initial review because I wanted to focus on the issues of professionalism. Due to the rushed nature in which the stylist consulted with me, I actually was not pleased with the outcome. When I showed the stylist the picture and was trying to describe it, she actually said "well it won't look exactly like that, it's never just like the picture", and then proceeded without asking me any further questions. Even if I had loved what I'd gotten, however, this still does not change the issue of customer service, which was and remains the primary focus of my review. Your website indicates the price of an updo, with no mention that there may be additional cost based on style, so it would be a reasonable assumption that the price which I was charged was full price. The purpose of my review was to indicate that a situation of a stylist arriving late was handled poorly. I would have hoped that in your reply, you would have taken ownership of this and addressed it, rather than arguing with my experience.

I’ve gotten a balayage done here and also brought my mum and sister to get their hair done for a haircut and colour! Carly is such a gem and have always been happy with her work! This happened to me a while ago but I'm still upset about it so I figured this review is worth writing. In about June/July of last year I came in for my usual trim/balayage/highlights. I had been there a few times and was always happy with how my hair turned out. But this time was a MESS. I can't remember the name of the lady who did my hair, it was an older woman who I think was new. She didn't put the right colour of toner in my hair and it turned out more brassy that I wanted it to. Which is fine, I came back about a week later for more toner and they fixed my hair for free and werre nice about it which was great. BUT I got the same lady as last time and she bleached my hair again and it fried the sh*t out of my hair and ruined it!!!! When all she had to do was put more toner to lighten up the blonde. My hair was literally breaking off in clumps in the shower. It was so damaged and ruined, and now about 8 months later it's only just starting to become somewhat healthy looking again. My hair used to be quite long and now it barely goes past my shoulders - thats how much of it has fallen out. Part of me feels like its my fault cause I should never have let her bleach or put foils in my hair, after it had been only a week or two, but I feel like that's basic knowledge that any hair dresser should know... she should have known better. Thanks to her my hair has taken almost a year to recover from all that damage. Would never ever come back here again.

Recently she corrected a poor colour job I had done elsewhere when I was in desperate need of a quick fix after salons opened up after Covid and appointments were difficult to find. My hair was brassy and orangey, when I wanted blonde highlights on brown hair. Janice spent the time to understand what I wanted, rehighlighted my hair, added lowlights and created a toner blend that achieved the most amazing results. She completely exceeded my expectations and I haven’t loved my hair this much in ages! Janice is also amazing at updos and wedding hair. She worked her magic on my hair for my wedding and my best friend’s wedding where both times we used hair extensions in my hair that completely blended in with my hair colour and styled in the most elegant yet current half up do that people raved about. I went in for a perm with Carly and I absolutely love it. It was my first time getting my hair permed so although I took the risk with a hair stylist who I never met before, Carly exceeded past my expectations and I’ve never felt so confident about my physical appearance. Not only is Carly really damn good at her job, she is really friendly and welcoming and you can tell she has a fiery passion for what she does. If you’re looking to get a Men’s perm and not quite sure if it’s worth it, as someone who was asking the same questions I can now guarantee that it is 100% worth it.

The only reason I gave them a star is because of the environment of the place. Carly and Janice are super nice but I am extremely disappointed with the results. I wanted to go darker brunette with highlights and I end up with A CHEMICALLY BURNT SCALP. They used 30 vol bleach for my highlights and tone my hair two separate times with a total of three washes in one appointment. For three days afterwards I could feel my scalp every time I raised my eyebrows or turned my head. Currently my scalp is flaking big chucks of toned skin, which is as gross as it sounds. I came in wanting to change my look and feel more confident and now I feel terrible about my hair and how I look. The only good thing was the chair cut and the people. Definitely not worth the $234.00 and a burnt scalp. - it also took them 5 hours to do my hair

I called in last minute, and Carly accomodated me same day. She did my hair color (ombre) and cut. Stayed late to finish it and not once did her or the manager have a resentful look on their face for having to stay late (typical with alot of places). Alyssia DeSylva I think that is unfair statement. The prices are posted on the website and if that’s not within your budget, you could have gone elsewhere that is more suited to your budget. Also, the prices are within standard rates of any other salon. As for the staff at Backstage, I have been going to this location for many years and I have never found that any of the stylist didn’t know what they were doing. They take great pride with ensuring that all customers are satisfied. I am a regular at this salon and I’ve never seen anyone leave disappointed. The staff at Backstage are professional, interactive and treat all customers like family. I feel welcomed anytime I walk through the door and again, never feel disappointed with the colour and cut I receive. I like to observe others, I’m a people watcher and my observation always at Backstage is that all the stylist listen and tend to their customer’s needs. Silvana has been in the industrial for a long time and maybe she isn’t the stylist for you but there is never a need to insult someone the way you just did, especially when it’s just not true. No stylist at Backstage is horrible! I will continue to highly recommend anyone to the Backstage locations in Mississauga or Oakville. Even if it fills up my stylist appointment book, she and the staff at Backstage are worth the wait! Book your appointments today!

i would never recommend this salon to anyone literally. they are such money grabbers. within two months my hair turned orange. i feel so ashamed when I step out and last week when i called them regarding my situation the lady was like yeah this happens so what should we spend $300 every two months to keep our hair good!? moreover she said one of us will be calling you soon but no one called!! my first hair colouring experience and worst i would say. everyone i met said that I wasted my money. had to colour my hair black again because they did such a bad job! my hair within the 1st week i got highlights turned soo rough. Really disappointing and poor staff.

I got a Keratin treatment for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I’m really happy. Carmen was my stylist and she did an amazing job. If you have long hair it can be a little expensive, but still totally worth it. The shampoo & conditioner that come with the treatment smells amazing too.

This is my second time at Sage hair salon.. had a hair cut with Carley (I think that’s her name) the first time and Janice the second time. As a guy what do I know about hair style - depending on the weather it’s more like run #3 or #2 over, but let me tell you, these are no normal hair stylist, they are real artist.. they spend time to understand our hair, recommend you what may suit you well based on face shape, crown (yea I got few at odd places that I didn’t know off), detailed in execution and they are fast! Also got shampoo before and after.. reasonably priced - will definitely go there again and highly recommend this place

The staff were very friendly. I was a bit early for my appointment, and had to continue waiting once my appointment time came, but the staff were all very aware that I was waiting, and they were all working together to help one another with both me and the other client without making either of us feel the stress of the wait. Even though Layla was working on 2 clients at the same time, I never felt like I was being rushed, and although I can't speak for the other client, it didn't seem like she was being rushed either. Layla is lovely - she did both my hair and eyebrows, and I'm in love with both. She is professional, friendly, and really knows what she's doing. I like the vibe of this place - no tension in the air. I have found my new hair stylist!

My experience at Sage Hair Studio yesterday was very pleasant . My hair stylist Tetyana was highly professional. As i was getting a pretty dramatic make over by going from long hair to a pixie cut ,She took utmost care to ensure that i was getting exactly what i wanted . Janice did a complete stage 2 covid makeover on my hair!! It was damaged and all different colours from the hack dye jobs I had done on myself since the lock downs. She didn’t skip a beat, picked an awesome colour for me, an amazing cut and I walked out a new women!! The salon was clean, masked were wore by everyone and only clients were let inside. I felt extremely safe! Thank you Sage and Janice for providing a great experience in these difficult times!

That was the most painful (actually the only painful!) experience I ever had with my haircut. When you think of a haircut you wouldn't think of pain, would you? Hahaha, it proved to be wrong at backstage hair saloon today and I just hope I will not have nightmares about hair stylist hiding in the house with a hair dryer and a pair of scissors :). My hair stylist was a tall Italian guy, I forgot his name, starts with L. First during washing he was pulling my hair so hard I almost cried. Common, I m not wearing a wig, this hair actually grows on me and yeah, I can feel it! He was very tough with my hair but hey, wish I knew what would happen next I would have jumped out of the chair and run to the door right away. When he started styling my hair with a hair dryer and a brush - I screamed, it felt like he was burning me alive! and again that pulling and pulling and pulling - that was horrible! God, I never thought that you can compare hair stylist with a dentist - but now I can and I am not afraid of dentists any more...at least they give you pain killers...and you know what? I am afraid of hair stylists now... PS. overall haircut was nice, that's why 3 stars, but I would NEVER be back!

I got my highlights done today by Carmen. I like her and the work she did until I got home. She curled my hair, and left it down, so it is not something I would notice until I got home. I put my hair in a ponytail and noticed my highlights end about 1.5 cm from my roots. It looks like my hair got done a month ago and my roots have grown in already. This is only on top, not the sides. The sides are fine. I am actually very disappointed because as far as the rest of the colour goes, I was very pleased. It has been many years since I have coloured my hair, so it is really too bad to have the roots showing on the day I got them done. I rarely post reviews and hate having to post a bad one, but I feel it was a very amateur mistake to make. There are two other reasons for my low review. While I was there, there were two men at a desk, and another stylist and her client. The men were at the front talking among themselves the whole time. The other stylist ( I believe her name was Janet or something )and her client were carrying on conversations at a normal tone. They moved to the wash station and were carrying on a conversation which my stylist then joined while my highlights were setting. Then the other stylist started saying something at a low tone whispering for approx 10 minutes or so. Pretty much the entire time my hair set. Seeing as I was the only other client in the salon, it was pretty obvious I was the one she was whispering for, to avoid me hearing her. I found this extremely unprofessional in this type of setting. As a buisness owner, I would also want to know if my employees acted this way while clients were present, making them uncomfortable. Lastly the prices were not disclosed correctly to me. I called ahead for the pricing. $120 I was told. Before we started my stylist asked me if I would like a treatment which would be an additional $50. Sure I agreed. That is $170. Somehow when I got to paying it was $255. $40 for a blow dry. But my hair was wet from rinsing, how would it get dried otherwise? I have been to this salon before and was never charged extra for this service.The other $40 I have no clue. I think she said I was paying for the cream I am taking home. Which I was not told would be additional besides the $50 I was already paying. I am not a cheap person and I do not like to look cheap. But I also like to know what I am paying for and not be ripped off. Sadly I think this will be my last trip to this salon. And it is a shame because prior I have had appointments with the owner Larry and he was a pleasure to speak with and deal with.

I came in with a choppy, uneven haircut (my fault) and needed an emergency fix ASAP. I was worried because I wasn't sure she would be able to fix it without cutting off inches, but she completely fixed it while keeping the length and thickness! You know it's a great cut when you don't even need to style it and it looks fantastic. When I do decide to style it, it is easy to do and very elegant. The stylists are very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. A little more expensive than what I usually spend on a cut, but worth it. Highly recommend this salon, thanks guys!
