I have been getting my hair done by Danielle for the past year and I absolutely love it!! I have naturally curly hair and she knows how to cut it to suit my hair texture. She is amazing at refreshing my red baylage and is fantastic at blondes as well. She listens to all of my concerns and definitely cares about her clients. Terry has been my hair stylist for over 20 years, from long hair to short hair, and back again, red hair, brown hair, blonde hair, and everything in between. I not only love how my hair turns out but also how he and Donna treat their staff and run their business. They are terrific mentors to their junior stylists and treat them like family. Terry and Donna did my and my best friend's hair for my wedding and we both felt like old Hollywood stars when they were done. Try Vain. You won't be disappointed. Plus, if you're a fan of 80s glam rock, you and Terry will have plenty to talk about.

I have been coming here for a number of years. I can usually get an appointment last minute, but if you book your appointment in advance, you will get an email a couple of days before to remind you. Awesome! Excellent hair colourists. Terry keeps records of what color formulas he has used in the past, so there is no guess work. Their new place is wonderful, has wifi and lots of parking!

I've been going to Vain for about 3-4 years now. My hairdresser is Terry one of the co-owners (the other is his wife Donna). I started going to Vain when it was located on Grant, a few blocks away from my apartment at the time. They've since moved to St. Vital which is actually closer to where I am now since we bought a house in the area. The service and atmosphere at Vain is very homey and relaxed. Everyone is friendly and pleasant to talk to. It's easy to call and make appointments and they are open on Saturdays which is usually what works for me. I completely trust Terry with my hair and style. He understands my likes and dislikes when it comes to my hair. We always have good chats about family, kids, vacations, renovations etc. while I'm there. Terry did my wedding hair in 2014 and I was extremely happy with the result. We discussed over email and pictures and did a trial. After the trial I provided feedback and my hair on the day was exactly what I envisioned. Very happy to keep going to Vain. Now just working on convincing my husband to go there! :)

I’ve been going to Vain for 7-8 years now pretty much since I’ve moved to Winnipeg. Originally came to them after a different place made my hair Orange instead of Brunette and Vain did such an amazing job fixing it. This was the first salon in Winnipeg that made me feel like actually wanted me to be a long term customer from that very first visit. Since then they have done my cuts and colours and I refuse to go anywhere else. They even cut my husbands hair. I remember when I was a bridesmaid in a wedding a few years back in my home town and the rest of the girls were getting their colours and cuts done day of the wedding along with getting their hair curled. I refused the cut and colour and just came in for a blowout. One of the girls moms came up to me at the wedding asking why my cut and color looked better then the other girls. I just laughed and was like oh I didn’t let them do anything but blow out my hair and that my cut and colour was done back in Winnipeg. The product they use to dye my hair are so soft on my hair and never damage it. And it never smells like hair dye. The other products they do use have such a lovely smell. The dyes have a great lasting power and when it fade (which would be months later) it always fades so nicely. Danielle is my current hairdresser and she also cuts my husband’s hair. My husband refuses to go any other hairdresser. Vain always keeps notes on your hair. So if you want to revisit a look from your past it’s not a problem.

Great couple who owns it. They chat with you while you get a cut, help you decide what you want if your trying something new or want something different. Clean place. Happy atmosphere! :) UPDATE: Learned this awhile back and finally got around to adding it here. They keep a file on you for what you had done last time, dos and don'ts, challenges (like cowlicks, coarse hair, etc.) and use it for future cuts. Super smart, always the same or better cut every visit and if you don't have a preference for who cuts your hair (like me), any stylist can read your file and give you what you want! It's awesome. There is a reason that have 5 stars and A LOT of reviews.
