As a regular contributor and guide to Google reviews I find it interesting that this place has a history of positive reviews with only a few poor reviews up until the last 24 hours. I note also that the vast majority of poor reviewers over the last 24 hours have never made any other review on Google , not to mention that the negative reviews all carry way to much similarity to be coincidence.. These are not serious Google guides . Obviously someone has an ax to grind and has rallied their troops to make their point and decrease ratings - which I suspect is in violation of Google policy. Sounds like revenge. Folks if you want honest reviews look past the last 48 hours and read what real customers and students have said. In my interactions with TSPA staff, students and customers (some of whom I have personally recommended) I believe this to be a great place contrary to the string of whiners over the last few hours.

TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ElSEWHERE!!! Extremely unprofessional staff who do not care about the customers. I've had several appointments cancelled on me without notice or apology. My last appointment I booked weeks in advance and when I arrived they told me they made a mistake booking my appointment and I would have to reschedule (I took the bus for 30 min just to get there. The girl at the front desk was extremely snarky and rude to me. I asked to speak to an educator who resolved the issue. I paid and booked a follow up appointment. Today I called to book a pedicure for myself and my mom and they told me my file was "flagged" and would not book me an appointment. I asked why I was flagged and the receptionist could not tell me why or who flagged it. Worse yet, they also flagged my mom's account for absolutely no reason (she wasn't even with me at my last appointment). Again, they couldn't tell me why she was flagged, when she was flagged or by whom she was flagged but insisted it was not a mistake. I left a message for the manager who didn't bother to call me back. Clearly they don't care about customer service. Don't waste your time or money!

Went in wanting to go lighter, and as I had box dye previously I understood it would be as light as they could. I was thrilled with the level of lightening, until I got home and noticed how patchy the back was, and both fronts are uneven in lightness because they had waited too long on one side. She had to bring in another girl to help, and the parts she did were great, but the rest was weirdly blended and not good. Paid 130 cause they had to refill so many times, which is no complaint, but I had expected it at least somewhat even and not as yellow, she toned it but seemed to do nothing as spots were more yellow from an uneven job. The lady never talked me through what was happening, and was extremely rough with my scalp, her nails dug in quite a bit. And when my hair was wet (when its most fragile) she was very rough with the brush. Safe to say my scalp was hurting after, being sensitive as well. The first time I decided to trust someone else with my hair in 5 years what a bad way to start.

I’m (was, after what happened) a loyal customer, both me and my husband have gone to this place to get haircuts and have recommended it to many friends. I called on a Tuesday to book our first haircut appointment post quarantine and the first we’ve had in over 8 months; it was for my 2 year old toddler, my husband and me. The person I spoke to on the phone booked us all at the same time and was aware of the age of my son because I mentioned it to her, and it must be said that during the phone call I was never informed about their mask policy or any safety procedures/protocols they’ve implemented in the salon. We came to the salon on the day and time they booked us (Friday at 2pm, hottest of days!) and upon entrance they asked if we had masks because we needed to wear them to go inside, otherwise they would sell them to us at $2 per mask (there were 4 of us); as I said, they never mentioned this when I made the appointment. We had masks with us so my 8y.o daughter, my husband and me wore them but of course my 2y.o wouldn’t wear it because of his age it’s practically impossible to keep a mask on his face; this is why masks aren’t mandatory for young children ANYWHERE. The person at the front door went to talk to someone else about this and a woman (I’m guessing a manager or supervisor) came to the door tell us that their policy requested everyone to wear and keep wearing a mask while receiving their services, including my toddler. While the 3 of us were wearing a mask, I repeatedly told this person that it’s not possible for a child his age to wear and keep a mask in his face for a long period of time, to which she responded that it’s their policy and I should take my child to another place specialized in children where they might know how to handle the situation with a young child differently (???). I then proceeded to tell her if this is their policy, why wasn’t I informed about this when I made the appointment and told them about my son’s age?! Because we organized our day around the time for this appointment (I had to do an early pick up of my child from childcare, amongst other things), to which she very bluntly answered that she doesn’t know why we weren’t told about this and there was nothing she could do; a very insincere “I’m sorry” was thrown somewhere during the exchange of words. To top it of, while we walked outside after this very disappointing experience, the man staff inside used a very sarcastic tone to loudly say “thanks for coming, have a nice day!” while we were evidently upset and walking away. I’m totally aware and understanding of the importance of safety procedures for business upon reopening, but this was by far a very disappointing and unprofessional situation. It’s very clear that we as customers giving our business to them, as well as our time, isn’t at all important or valued for this place, and the lack of empathy was a slap in the face. Will never come back or recommend this place again.

I have been at this salon several times but the last two visits were not great. The first student cut of the wispies at the back without asking what I wanted done with them (not happy). This last time the student didn't shape the mid back, and to look in the mirror looks like a bowl cut. The wispies at my cheeks were different lengths which I didn't notice as I didn't have my glasses on. When I got home had to trim the hair myself. I realize these students are in learning stages however I do feel instruction is greatly lacking compared to what it was a year or more ago. When the instructor came for the final check she should have noticed the back was not tapered enough and made suggestions.

i understand that they are students, but at least teach them what to do first??? first off, she put a disgusting dirty barber’s cape on me, i had to mention that it was covered in hair and skin flakes and irritating my allergies before she noticed and got me a new one. then, as she was cutting my hair it was just horrifying. she completely ruined my hairline, and it’s not like i can just grow that out with the sides shaved, it makes me look like i have a big bald spot on one side of my head. and when i kept telling her to fix it (cause everything she was doing was horrendous) she told me i was being picky!!! terrible customer service. and the more she tried to fix it the worse it looked so i just had to ask her to stop. it’s as if the students are on their first day and never clipped a piece of hair before. RIDICULOUS. like aren’t they supposed to practice on those mannequin head thingys??? i easily could have done a much better job by myself at home without a mirror to see the back of my head. DONT GO HERE UNLESS YOURE WILLING TO SACRIFICE YOUR HAIR TO AN UNTRAINED BEGINNER

My friend and I went there for a day of beauty before her bachelorette party and it was amazing. Leagues above any other beauty school spa in the city in regards to atmosphere, friendliness of the students and professionalism. They did spa manicures and pedicures (the paraffin treatments were sublime) , vintage hairstyles incorporating fascinators we brought in and make up with lashes. We asked for really different things and the students were able to think on their feet. They finished hours earlier than we expected and the services took no more time than at a regular salon. We looked great and everything held for hours. The best part was the price! I will definitely recommend to others.

Impressive!! Having had a bad experience at a previous salon, I was actually scared to go to ANY salon in Winnipeg. I couldn’t put it off any longer. I found The Salon Professional Academy through one of the coupon books my hubs brought home from work. I figured I would give TSPA a try. They are a training school with instructors on hand. I didn’t know what to expect. It’s a salon, but it’s huge. I was greeted upon arrival and didn’t wait more then 5 mins to see my stylist “Princess”. She was great. We consulted together and then with her instructor. My hair turned out great and I paid half the price I would anywhere else. Now I want to come back and try ALL of their services.

This was my first time ever going to this salon and I've never been happier leaving a salon. I walked in with a silver/blue color and wanted to go back to my natural brown. Brittany did my hair and I'm beyond happy. My hair is amazing and she did an amazing job. I was very involved in the process of picking the shade of dye and couldn't be happier. Brittany is an amazing person and stylist. 10/10 will be going back

I was looking forward to a color, trim and conditioner masque. My daughter had her hair color and cut last month that cost in total about $54. I was impressed with the student who did her hair but more impressed with the price listed online as it does say $35 for color and $13 I believe for cut. So my sister and I decided to book an appointment for our hair. I was disappointed that my bill was $114. I asked the instructor as to why my bill cost so much with color, a trim of 3 inches and conditioner when online color is $35, masque, $12, cut $13. Instructor said because my hair was long. I showed her a picture of my daughter's hair and was the same length as mines before and after taken by the student who did her hair and was charged for $54 same length as mine from dark brown to reddish color and student had the time to style it after. Instructor asked me the date my daughter came in so she can check the system. Instructor goes on with an excuse that the student already graduated and I cant give her feedback she states. Ummm duh, my daughter's hairstylist's student SIGNED the paper that shows the cost !!! My student just blowed dry my hair after! The only thing she did great was managing my hair/head during washing. I came home with black ears leaving the dye without even watching it, I looked like an Ape with black hair ears!! The online prices you see $35 doesn't indicate it's by ounce as per the Instructor. Anyone who plans to go there make sure during your consultation you ASK FIRST HOW MUCH IT WILL COST YOU! I understand they are students and still learning but the Instructor needs consistency.

Best pedicure ever! Meeta did an amazing job. I’ve never seen such attention to detail. We were greeted right away, and the atmosphere was positive and friendly. Meeta showed me around the building. The Teachers came around to oversee the work being done, and were so approachable and positive. This was our first time here (my daughter had a fabulous manicure and booked for her next nail treatment right away), and we will definitely be regulars. The prices and services offered are outstanding. Added bonus- I was able to keep the polish I chose! My feet have never felt or looked better! *FOR ANYONE LOOKING AT THIS PLACE AS A SCHOOL * Do not go here for any education ! They will find anyway to get more money out of you. And because of good educators constantly being fired for standing up for students you will be left with teachers that yell at you in front of clients and constantly make you feel hopeless and stupid. They will make you feel like they have a higher standard of learning and that will help you find the job you want but it’s not true! Please please please take this into consideration when looking at this school! There are a lot of student and faculty that regret ever coming here.

Got my nails filled at TSPA exactly 1 week ago and since then my UV polish that I paid extra for has peeled off and one of my gel nails completely cracked in half. I wasn't too upset as they are students and I just fixed the paint, but I cant really fix the cracked off nail... I called and spoke to a nail educator and was told there was nothing they could do but I could pay to have it fixed. Don't get me wrong, the $5 isn't the issue, it's the fact I sat there for a long period, so that a student could learn, but when I called with my concerns they told me since it had been a week they wouldn't do anything for me and told me it was because of the changing temperatures outside. I've had nails for many winters with changing temps and never had this happen. Overall not impressed, and likely won't return as this left a bad taste in my mouth.

I came here on Saturday, April 5, 2019 for a perm. While everyone was nice and respectful, I felt the instructor and student who worked on my hair didn’t really care about my treatment and were just there to do what had to be done so they could go home for the day. I have a large amount of hair (one of the reasons why I chose to go to a school and not an actual salon), and I know from previous perms that I like the smaller tighter curls. I told both the student and instructor this and the instructor indicated they would be using pink and orange rollers, but when they came back to the station, they had GREEN and orange. I know it is my fault that I didn’t say anything, but I didn’t want to push for the pink rollers and risk upsetting the girl who was going to work on my hair for the next three hours! I felt the student pushed for these rollers so she wouldn’t need to spend so much time wrapping my hair. During the wrap, the instructor came by and asked how things were doing ONCE, but she never actually stopped to look at the work that was being done. When all my hair was wrapped, she came by and looked at the top rolls, but nothing underneath, she didn't even really look at my hair after the perm. Just told me to have a nice day and enjoy the perm... The perm came out okay…not great as there are some parts in the front that aren’t as curled as others (more of a beach wave), but was not what I was looking for. I hope in the future, they actually try to take an interest in what the client actually wants and not what is easier for the student.

Enjoyed my experience there. I went on Friday morning and it definitely did not disappoint me at all. Very nice staff and students. Went there for a balayage and an eyebrow wax. I was there for 4 hours but the price and atmosphere made it all worth it. Shoutout to Katie for amazing job on my balayage and Jessica on my eyebrow wax. I would recommend this place.

Just walked out of there now, I'm not upset over my haircut or the hairdresser but the wait. I had an appointment at 5:30 but didn't get in till 6:40. I approached the desk at 6:00 and they said soon because she was just setting up. Then at 6:10 I asked again and they said soon but I asked them to be honest because I wanted to get a bite if it were to be a longer wait still and it turned out to be. It was a quick cut, 10 mins long because it was a trim and my hair was dry; the teacher said to me "well that was fast cut, doesn't make your wait too long now" which I didn't think was very efficient. It only costed me 10$ and the cut was alright but the service could have been better. I'm not an impatient person, I would be perfectly fine with waiting because I was with my mom but I just wish I was informed and for a school I think honesty with clients should be taught. I wouldn't go back.

Great experience. Went for a haircut and loved the student experience. It takes a bit more time since there's active teaching taking place. I was nervous about going since the thought of a student learning on me didn't seem ideal but there is close observation and feedback from an instructor who is never far away. I had booked an appointment and was seen shortly after checking in. For a man's haircut, it only took 40 min and you can't beat the price! Would recommend to anyone and will be going back.

I got coupon to use before December 31, called them to book an appointment 5-6 weeks prior and later got a call 2 hours before my appointment cancelling it and told me they can't do any other day for the time I had booked till the end of the year. Poor service! Will not recommend.

My family and I have been to TSPA several times over the last year. Each time we have had great service, and even when we didnt, the issues were resolved quickly. We decided to "try out" several students at varying stages of education and found that people new to the floor provided the same level of service as the ones who were near graduating. One service wasnt great (nervous student) and when we decided to contact the director, she called back promptly, listened to our whole "complaint" and we could tell that the issue had been discussed with staff and students when we came the next time. One bit of advice, tell the receptionist what you want and she can help you find the perfect fit of student and will leave notes on your file so your student has some back-info. The educators have a real love for what they do and you can see that they want all the students to succeed. note: evening appointments are hard to get, so book ahead, and always allow for extra time since students are learning.

I chose this salon b/c I tried getting a appointment for campus tour and forgot about it. Then went in person for another one and didn’t get it. Anyways, the campus is easily accessible by transit. You can walk from Ellice at St. James from route 77 or take 20 from the airport or downtown. My stylist is extremely nice, friendly and helpful! I hope she graduates with honours and scholarships for her own salon or be a salon. I sure wish there’s more supervisiors (instructors) first thing in the morning!

Editing my review from almost a year ago because I had two great color and balayage appointments in 2020 where my hair looked amazing from some older students. However, I tried the nail services and ended up with lifting acrylics in 2 days and the worst ingrown toenail I’ve ever had, I had to seek medical help for it for months. However my last two appointments for hair have not gone great. The first time I had to go to another salon and get the entire cut redone because it was so uneven so I was out another $40. Recently gave them another chance, but I was unhappy with my hair after my appointment. I called within 48 hours and booked within a week as per their policy and explained to the same stylist what it was I wanted and we were able to touch it up to match and was an affordable fix. Overall satisfied with my hair now.

I wanted to give this place a shot, however i will never return. The errors they made are unacceptable, they cut MY SKIN , and it took the nail technician 2.5 hours to do both my hands W/0 EVEN PAINTING IT, I had to do it MYSELF when i got home. Though she is a student and is just beginning to learn , I did not feel comfortable and welcomed in their place. The instructor was extremely rude and made lots of rude comments while my friend and I were talking, also the girl that was doing my nails kept joining into my friend and I’s conversation, which I found disdainful . It’s not a service that I feel that I should pay the whole price for , due to the simple fact that they cut my SKIN AND IT STARTED BLEEDING, in addition the instructor kept putting my hands down ROUGLY. I do not recommend this place at all. If you’re thinking of going here to get your nails done , don’t . If i can give this 0 out of 5 i’d do so.

I went here a couple days ago to get a balayage done. At the time when it was finished it looked okay but when I got home I could see it was done poorly, my head is a mix of blotchy warm and cool toned colours. I’ve been coming here for years and I have never been botched this bad before, this will be my last time going to TSPA.

Went for a manicure got a full set of gel nails. The salon is nice and clean. Just absolutely hate the work I got done. I understand this place is very cheap & the techs are students but, the girl who did my nails was so nervous & did not know how to use the tools properly. She cut me when doing the cuticles. She did not apply the gel correctly my nails are so uneven and look sloppy. Looks like a child did them I expressed my unhappiness with the out come after sitting there for more then 3 hrs. But was not mean because again I know she is a student. I couldn’t sit there any longer I had an appointment for 9:00 am and did not leave til 12:15 pm... a little ridiculous to me... I had to come to work with nails I’m embarrassed of lol but it’s okay... just a warning you totally get what you pay for. They told me I could Come back and get them reshaped and repainted I may do that if not gonna fix them myself. Overall I’m going to stick with the professionals lol.

Not happy, don’t go here. The customer service was less than poor. It took 2 weeks of hounding the academy to settle a dissatisfaction I had with me lashes with no real solution as I had asked for a refund since most of my lashes fell out within 48hrs. Due to prior commitments, I couldn’t report until 60hrs after the lashes were applied. The director or manager was rude and not understanding. She couldn’t get back to me within 2 weeks even after 2 of her staff members said that they would “personally give my name, number and situation” to her the following day. I didn’t want to get a new, free set of lashes because of the extensive time it took to get a half set (when I’m paying for a full set) and she couldn’t even credit the $80 I spent to another service. I’ve been there several times and the service is very inconsistent with a limited availability of people with authority on shifts who can actually do something about complaints.

My daughter and I have had many great experiences at The Salon Professional Academy. All the staff and students are very professional. The staff check in on the students and provide the necessary assistance throughout the appointment. I work in customer service and have observed nothing but good things throughout my many visits to the school. If my daughter was ever to choose a career in this field I would encourage her to attend The Salon Professional Academy.

If I could review without a star I would. I was a student hear for the esthetics program and after working extra hours every week for the whole program to make up for two days. I still didn’t have enough hours. It took me over two years for the school to mail me my diploma as I live in Ontario. I would never reccomend this school to anyone. It’s a waste of money, the training is different from other professional beauty schools, the kits are too expensive and contain dollar store makeup brushes. Go to a different school that actually cares about there students and not about just making money.!!! It was so disappointing being so excited to learn and leave with such a negative mindset. TRUST ME!!THIS SCHOOL IS NOT WORTH IT. The only educators who made this school great, quit from being constitally bullied by their “superior” infront of students and fellow teachers.
