When my hair artist switched locations to somewhere I had never been before, well...you always get a little nervous. No need. The salon is beautiful, clean and friendly. The building itself has been put to great use and you get to appreciate the architecture within. Brena's my girl, she's changed my life with her talent. From box dying my hair red for 13 years to Brena taking me on a journey to a fun silver. I admire her artistry and taking it upon herself to continue her education within the field. Got a balayage done with Brena! She’s amazing, super friendly, kind, funny, and makes sitting in a chair for 5 hours a whole lot less boring!! She took my dark chocolate brown box dyed hair with blonde bangs and gave me a full balayage. She’s amazing at her work and very passionate about it, which is very encouraging to know your stylist is enjoying what they’re doing to you’re hair. When you tell Brena you want a trim she won’t cut off 6 inches from your hair which is also amazing! 1000% going back to be lightened wish i could’ve tipped her 100%

The pricing is fair and they carry a great selection of unique products that can be hard to track down in Winnipeg (r&co, kevin murphy, evo). The owners are the loveliest, and the welcoming and vibrant culture they've created around their salon is amazing. Also, there is a freaking *FLOWER WALL*!! Need I say more?

After a long time without cutting my hair I went into see Brena at Prep for a big change. She was so warm, kind and reassuring and took the time to talk to me about what I wanted and how to style it. Even though it was years since I had my hair done and was quite nervous prior to the appointment, I loved the end result. I have never loved a haircut so much, my hair feels so healthy, is way less tangly and looks much neater and more stylish. The whole experience was definitely first class, and I will be back for all my future hair needs! Thank you Brena and Prep!

I saw Beej for a colour and cut correction and she was AMAZINNNGGGG!!! My hair was butchered by another salon on corydon. Like 1" thick chunky highlights, one massive thick layer all around my head. It was a COMPLETE disaster and I was not hopeful... I saw Beej for a consultation and she validated all of my concerns and was really reassuring. Luckily she had a cancelation that same night! She explained the whole process to me and went through my whole head and carefully foiled the dark stripes and my colour was fixed!!! She applied a more golden toner so my hair better complements my warm skin tone and she added a root tap to blend the blonde. She also worked with me to find a balance between fixing the cut and conserving length. After getting home, there were a few subtle things I didn’t love with the cut and she booked me in a couple days later for a quick appointment to fix them. Would 100% recommend.

Today was my first time going to this salon. Had my hair cut and coloured by Kaitlin. Amazing experience! I have never walked away from a salon this happy with my hair. Kaitlin is a gem. She really listened to what I wanted and gave me exactly what I was looking for. Kaitlin was so gentle with my hair and explained everything she was doing as we went along. Loved the environment of the salon- chic interior with plants everywhere and quality hair products (Kevin Murphy, olaplex etc). Some staff were nice, I had Isabelle who was nice. Unfortunately I was a bit miffed at the price they charged ($330 after tax for a micro trim + half highlights). They charged me for a wash even though the bleach/dye needed to be washed out (wondering why this wasn’t included with the cost of highlights? Needs to be more clear). Stylist was a bit pressy for me to style my hair after telling her no twice. Wishing I could give higher rating but I wasn’t expecting quite the price tag for half highlights. Edit: they called and gave me a $45 refund and apologized for not doing a consult before hand. Thanks!

Before contacting the person who made a complaint directly she calls the business you work for to complain about you and then sends her clients and employees to berate your social media until you remove your review. I've seen Brena twice and she's great. She listened to my concerns and gave great suggestions when I wasn't sure what I wanted done. She's easy to get a hold of if I ever have questions or concerns, not that I've had any because her work so far has been great! I will definitely continue going back to Prep Hair the next time I get my hair done. They have done a great job during COVID of keeping everyone distanced and safe. I went to Prep Hair to get a perm which I’d never got before. I was greeted and the staff were super friendly! Getting my perm done was a breeze and Megan was an absolute joy. After a few days I checked in with her because some of my hair hadn’t curled so she had me come back to fix it up. She was super thorough and fantastic once again. My only issue I’ve had is with the products used. I’m not sure if all perm solutions are different but perms should last up to 6 months. It’s been less than a month and my hair isn’t curly at all. It stayed curly for a week or so and then started to loose shape even after I diffused it and used a very expensive curl cream. I’m just really bummed that I spent $250 on something that was supposed to last for up to 6 months and is now gone :(

My experience with Prep is Never again. My husband bought a gift card for me for my bday and I used it once. When I presented the card upon paying, I was told that I should have told them that it was a gift card I was paying with???? That when the card was purchased, it was purchased for a specific hairdresser within the building because of who did the transaction at the time of purchasing. With no specific name of a hairdresser on the card?? Like your customers should know this?? I phoned wanting second appointment and the person who answered the phone told me that they would call me right back to after checking their schedule . This was at 10:00 a.m., by 6:00 that night I heard from no one. Bad business. Wow, never ever been to a salon that is so unorganized and don't follow up on customer calls.

I made an appointment with Prep Hair a few weeks ago and wish I hadn't. My hairdresser said my hair will cost around $300 for a full head of highlights (which I thought was a little expensive but I had read such amazing reviews so I thought it would be worth it). After sitting in the salon for 4 hours and spending $500, I could not tell a difference in my hair whatsoever. Since the salon was closed the following day (Sunday) I decided to send the salon a direct message via Instagram stating how disappointed I was. Instead of calling me back the following week, the owner of the salon sent me a voice message through Instagram messenger - not once did she sound apologetic, instead she blamed my hair saying the color was too dark to lift. I am so disappointed by their lack of professionalism and I think it was a waste of my time and money.

I debated leaving this review for some time because I know people that have worked here and also people that love going here! Prep has a wonderful reputation and I fully believe it is for a good reason. However, I went there in the summer and had a surprisingly bad experience. I'm sure Prep can look up who I saw so I won't name the person I went to. However, prior to my appointment the hair dresser texted me saying they can do my hair the way I was hoping to, seeing pictures and all. I also told her my hair is a bit damaged but I was just asking for some highlights in a medium caramelly blonde. Then at the appointment, the hair dresser was acting surprised at my request and straight up admitted she "doesn't always read" the appointment messages. She kept leaving me to clearly talk to someone in the back about my hair, and seemed to be in a panic. She claimed my hair was severely damaged (I promise you, it wasn't - about half of it was virgin hair regrowth). I genuinely think she saw the layers in my hair and thought they were breakage for some reason. She was clearly really unhappy. The whole appointment felt uncomfortable and like she didn't know what to do, and at one point she tried to blame me by saying that I didn't leave my name on my messages to her (yet you texted me and my initial message was under my time slot that I booked so that doesn't make sense), which I thought was unprofessional. In addition, I told her I have a cow lick in my bangs and that she had to take that into consideration when she cuts them. She proceeded to cut them about five minutes later, and literally went "oops" and cut them crooked. Her reaction? "Must be that pesky cow lick!". To make my bangs straighter, she had to cut them reaaaally short. She was not apologetic and she seemed like she didn't really care. My hair looked barely changed by the end minus the unwanted micro bangs, and I was considering leaving before she was even done. It cost me just under $300.00 with the tip. I don't know why it was so hard to complain, I guess because the whole situation was uncomfortable with how she was acting. Instead, I've been telling people by word of mouth not to see her. I hope other people have a better experience than I did - maybe it was an off day, but it was enough to sadly not make me want to come back again.

I want to say this is a beautiful salon and I was really excited to book an appointment with them, based on the rave reviews. I unfortunately took it upon myself to give myself cut/bangs while in quarantine. I booked an appointment at 10:30 with Brena because she was the only one available, but based on the reviews and her instagram I thought I would be happy with her work. While booking the appointment, I noted that I had cut my own hair (poorly) and wanted a bouncy blow out and to fix my curtain bangs. The moment I got there Brena seemed unhappy to be there, and made a few comments about how it was really early(why confirm the appointment if you didn't want to do it?). The attitude she gave off made me feel like she really did not want to be cutting my hair. She used very little products (which I thought was strange for my coarse, frizzy hair type) and did not give me the bouncy blow out I asked for. I unfortunately will not be coming back.

This place has some skilled staff. I'm very picky about my hair and 3 out of the 4 times i was there the person cutting my hair listened to my instructions on how i wanted my hair to be cut. They're always busy but you're able to get a haircut in if you call in advance. The prices are fair for mens haircut, I'm not sure for womens haircuts though. It's well maintained and clean. They offer you coffee, tea or water. Very friendly stafd

If I could give this salon no stars I would. I had Isabel do my hair and walked out with it being absolutely wrecked. I had called and asked for a refund so I could go somewhere else and the manager insisted that one of her senior hairstylists fix it. Carly is a hair wizard, she took my ~crispy~ mess from a weird faded mix of colours (green, pink, orange, old box black), with damaged ends and botched-haircut awkward chunky layers, and got it to the colour and health i had hoped to get to in a few visits, but in just one sitting (she spent 5 whole hours making it perfect, on top of the initial consult time) I'm in love, it's so pretty and way beyond what I thought could be done for my hair at this point. I also wanted it thinned because it hung so heavy so she did a lot of work on the ends, now it looks the same length but is so much lighter with proper layers- i think I lost five solid pounds of crunchy ends alone. Also showed me shampoo and conditioner that get along with my hair to help keep it smooth and soft. The place itself is also really bright n clean and welcoming, everyone was really friendly and encouraging :') thank you again!!
