Great old building with a lot of charm. Limited parking in a moderately dodgy location. It's always kind of dirty. Hair not always swept up and is built up in corners after what must be many disinterested attempts to clean it up. Splashes of ?? on walls that are never washed. But the music is great, staff is wonderful and very talented. Terrific hair and make up product selection, but none that I've seen are cruelty free. Hair services are on point - not too high or low for what you get. Main floor has high end artisanal jewelry and the likes. They have aesthetic services as well but I have never used them.

So many great stylists and it's open late. Would be difficult to not find someone available for an appointment. There's also a cool little shop on main level for perfumes, incense, soaps. All of it inside a remodeled old character apartment building.

Walked into this salon for the first time after having a bad experience from a previous haircut and after feeling apprehensive of going into a salon again to fix it I decided to go in as I’ve heard lovely things about this place! I love how it’s open until 10pm as sometimes I get off work late and it’s really difficult to squeeze into an appointment elsewhere so I was surprised and happy I was able to get a slot right away! I got Arene and now I’m feeling better about my hair crisis and she even showed me an ideal product to give me the finish that I was looking for. Thank you!

I was turned away and denied service because I have a disability the prevents me from wearing a mask, also they insisted on pointing a dangerous infrared thermometer directly at my pineal gland. Today I have contacted my lawyer and the manitoba human rights commission. Edward Carrier OPENLY discriminates against people with disabilities and PTSD symptoms.

I've been going for 29 years since I was 10, and I've always had the best experience. They have consistent experienced staff, cultivate excellence from their Junior stylists. They have several colour professionals who are perfect at what they do, and continuously train juniors to get to that level as well. They frequently take their staff to hair/fashion shows to stay ahead of the curve in styling and products. They have really nice selection of Kiehls, private European hair and soap products, and are the sole distributor of Swedish Face makeup. They also have full nail service and hand massage. Numerous comfy waiting areas, and complementary beverages while you wait. I'll never go anywhere else.

I am a esthetician by trade and am passionate about skin care. I try not to tell places I go that I am because they tend to talk shop..during more relaxation services, being in the industry I know the of dos and don'ts. When I laid in the bed, I had track lighting right above me, shinning in my eyes. I asked the staff to shut it off and they did after locating the breaker. That room was also used for waxing. I specifically booked a facial using a peel I have used many times before, that is not what was used on me. 90min facial and the esthetician was out of the room for 45mins of it. No hand or arm massage. I had to ask if there was a scalp massage. What really bugged me was she left the room when I was under the steam. That is a big NO-NO! Also the extractions weren't done well at all. $146.00 was not worth it. Would not recommend this place to anyone. In fact I go out of my way to warn people to not waste their money there. I think hair is more their thing.

Hair dresser didn't follow my requests and she took less than 15 minutes for the actual hair trim. Next day after finally having a chance to look at my cut I cried. I'm livid with this super "basic b*tch" cut that I have to walk around with on my head that's everything I hate about basic B hair. Same hair cut I had in grade 12 in the 90's. 6 inches instead of the 3 inches I requested removed, straight across instead of the tapered V and beachy feathery waves I asked for. I've broken into tears multiple times today when I see it in the mirror or feel how short it is compared to what it was. I have serious trust issues with my hair, which I expressed to the stylist. My pride and joy is ruined and will take months to fix. This is also too short for the style I wanted for my wedding. I'm livid. Also: The vent on the ceiling over the hair wash station was filthy. You are forced to look at it while they wash your hair. Take some pride and fix that. Also the stylist beside us kept taking hair tools from my stylist and her customer looked wholly unhappy. I won't be returning.

I recently had to absolute worst experience I have ever had with a salon. Ever. A demi had been put on my hair, that was darker than my natural. After a few months of it fading substantially, I decided to go back to blonde. I chose a salon that was highly rated and though I knew it was expensive I trusted that it would be done properly and professionally, so I wasn’t as anxious. When I arrived the stylist was friendly but basically useless in terms of suggestions other than to bleach the whole thing (even though I though highlights or a balayage made more sense) I agreed, trusting she knew what she was doing. She then began applying the bleach from the bottom up in small sections, within 5 minutes she pulled over a young nervous looking employee who was sweeping the floors, apparently an apprentice, who couldn’t even figure it how large to make the sections and repeatedly asked questions about basic techniques, letting the stylist know that she was obviously uncomfortable and had no idea what she was doing. The young girl continued to move very awkwardly, fumbling with the dye and dragging the cotton pieces through my hair with the colour. Within half an hour of the appointment and the first 10 minutes of the bleach application, someone came in and let Deirdre know that another one of her clients had arrived. Deirdre apparently saw only $$$ and asked the nervous inexperienced girl if she could finish up, as well as mix and apply the colour she would use for my roots. There was 3/4 of my hair left. About 1.5 hours later Deirdre was finishing up her other client and I was watching as this girl drag cotton and bleach slowly and unevenly through my hair, flinging and dropping colour EVERYWHERE (which apparently I was being charged for), all I could think about was that the top of my head hadn't even been touched and bleach had been frying the underneath of my hair for almost 2 hours. FINALLY Deirdre came back over and dismissed the young girl, I could see the panic as she rushed through the rest of it and then only let it sit for about 15 minutes. She continued to play it off like it was normal and I continued to hold my tongue because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and didn't want to jump to any conclusions. After the first toner I had bright yellow PATCHY LEOPARD HAIR and the salon was empty because I had been there for about 4 hours. The second toner hid the patchiness a little bit and I was fine with leaving with wet hair because I had work in the morning and it was way past closing time. I had been waiting around for a ridiculous amount of time at each station, waiting twenty minutes for her to come to the sink then another 40 minutes while she "mixed my toner". I ended up leaving with soaking wet, patchy awful hair, which I paid about $350 for because they were closed, I was starving and I had no idea what else to do because she would not acknowledge her mistake. I called the manager the next day who was so sassy and condescending and continued to tell me it was my fault for not properly communicating what I wanted. I didn't realize I had to communicate that I didn't want lines and leopard spots or burnt off hair. I actually could not believe this man even had a job, he was SO awful to deal with and would not admit any mistakes were made or give me any of my money back, he actually told me that the young girl would be "dealt with" not DEIRDRE who was the stylist I had hired. We finally agreed on me coming in the next day to have it fixed by someone else, he told me that he would be in to see it and we would go from there. When I got there the next day, I asked the receptionist where he was as he had told me to come in and see him, she coldly let me know that he was not there and wouldn't have stayed anyway because he really didn't care. I painfully sat there while another stylist did his best to fix my hair without ruining more of it, so I was thankful to him as it was obviously not his problem. Do not make the same mistake I did. They are expensive because they are greedy, not good.

We went there to see if its possible to have my daughter's hair to be coloured, the front desk lady says its not possible and we needed a consultation, we noticed there wasn't much people there too, I felt like we weren't that important enough, gut feeling it had to do with how we looked, walked out with our money, checked on line to see an ad for three best hair salons in Winnipeg, they took us immediately. Gut feeling about this place, not good, my thumbs down to them. Don't waste your time going there, seems like its a fricken colour specialist doctor don't waste their time with those they don't like, thats how they made us feel.

I've been going to Edward Carriere Salon for 10+ years. I have had many amazing haircuts here, which is why I've kept coming back. Today I called to book an appointment and was told I would have to show my vaccination QR code upon arrival. It is illegal and discriminatory for them to require this information. Edward Carriere, you just lost two long term loyal customers, but more importantly, you've violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and other Canadian laws made to protect the people from such discrimination. I am greatly disappointed and disgusted.

I booked an appointment last minute as my stylist was sick and I was going to Vegas the next day. They were nice enough to fit me in, but failed to tell me about their exorbitant pricing. My sister had gone a few months before, paid an atrocious amount, but I figured that because she has infinitely more hair than me, my hair would be a little less - but I was wrong. She also had a terrible experience as she paid over $300 and her color faded in less than a month (not washing every day). I had to go back to get my hair toned (I'm blonde) - and again, they were nice enough to offer that even. I think if you're going to charge someone with extremely fine shoulder length hair over $200 for a cut and color, the least you can do is discuss pricing. I'm not a bad person, so I tipped anyways, and left spending almost $300. Will never go back.

Thank You Antonieta! I am so happy with my visit today. My hair is currently in an awkward phase due to other salons messing with my hair line. As a result I haven't visited a salon since October. Was looking for a place that would take me in and really assess my hair and see what could be done style wise. Antonieta is exactly who I was looking for - I just didn't know how to ask for help. Luckily it was like she read my mind and really played around with my hair. She made me feel understood and worked with my hair to give it some style - while allowing some spots to regrow lengthwise. I will definitely be going back.

The standards at Edward Carriere really need to be re-vamped. It used to be a really nice salon with professional standards of customer service. And many decades ago, it was actually swanky. It's just not the same anymore. It also could use some physical renovations. The place is tired and dirty looking (has no one noticed the ugly ripped mats under the chairs??). Given the costs of its services, it should be offering more in customer service and in atmosphere and appearance. Its elite reputation, which was once spot on, is now totally false and overvalued. Part II I think this silly response speaks volumes. The rundown look of this business predates the COVID-19 pandemic. And given how few clients were allowed in during the pandemic you would think customer service would be fabulous. Maybe management needs a rethink as well.

They have a great selection of products here as well as a cute gift shop downstairs. The only issue with this place is it's location. The parking situation isn't the greatest. So be sure to give yourself enough time to find parking. Street parking on Broadway is time limited. Their parking lot only allows for so many cars. And the residential street parking is almost normally full. My hair stylist is Raechel and I am more than happy with her work.

Disappointed!!! I live in Ottawa and frequent salons in my former town Quebec City and Montreal. I have been coming to Edward Carriere the past few years when I visit my family in Winnipeg. Recently they messed up my colour appointment. The receptionist couldn't find that I had booked a colour. Then I was served awful coffee in a plastic cup. I'm used to wine or a decent coffee in a regular mug. Then I saw Jeff who gives a great cut but I left the salon with damp hair and about a 2 minute blow-dry. I have long hair! Complained to the manager who didn't seem to care much at all. Receptionist at the front entrance at least felt bad when she could see how upset I was and offered to give me perfume samples and offer compensation somehow. All in all....Edward Carriere hair salon needs to up its game in customer service. Although my hairstylist gives a great cut a women needs to leave a salon with a great blowout as well.

Edward Carrier salon provides patrons with a wonderful experience the minute they walk through the door . Their focus on atmosphere, customer service , quality products and stylists makes your experience at their a salon a treat . My stylist Caroline was able to take an awkward grow out and turn it into the exact style and color I was hoping for. Caroline took her time and never made you feel rushed . The staff take care of you , They have separate staff members available to assist with hair washing which is really a nice touch. I was impressed how Caroline really listened to what I wanted in a hair style and was able to produce it .

I was just here February 21st for a hair cut which literally just involved lining up and fading the sides and back, kind of like a boy or pixie type cut. Which wasn’t hard to achieve considering my hair was already in and around that style but she somehow managed to mess up the back, the one main job, she didn’t go right to the back of the crown like she described she would, and I’m missing a huge chunk of hair in the back. As I sat in the chair and seen the equipment she was going to use I I couldn’t help but notice there was no means of sanitation for combs, the brush she used had someone else’s hair in it and the buzzers (both pairs) were kept pretty messy and hadn’t looked like they’d been sanitized either. Well sure shit, the next day I started breaking out in rashes all over my neck, I didn’t put 2 and 2 together until the other night my gf asked me if it could have been my hair cut. Now come to think of it, nothing else has changed but that hair cut, and was brought back to thinking about the lack of sanitization. All and all the people are welcoming the place is confusing, to many stairs, and on top it all cost me $58 bucks just to fade the back and sides I think they charged me a fee to blow dry my hair when I didn’t want it blow dried. Why should I pay for my hair to be heat damaged?

Just wanted to hop on here from Toronto and say how very jealous I am that this salon has gained the immense talent that is Heather Mercer. Heather is an incredible hairstylist and barber. She is a master colorist and was my mentor. She taught me everything. She's an expert barber and inspired me to follow my aspirations to become one. And funnily enough... Heather also became my hairstylist❤. Heather has so much skill with both precision cuts and beachy, textured cuts as well (we've done all these cuts on me). Heather is also my colorist. She's done incredible colors on me including a beautiful rose gold balayage right before she left. Heather is also a master bridal stylist which is no easy job ! She's styled my hair for countless weddings and her bridal portfolio is diverse, international and all out luxurious. Heather has a little edge in there, so don't be fooled by her sweet demeanor, this chick can do all types of hair. She's fearless. She's my hero. Anyone who has the good fortune of meeting Heather and being a client of hers is lucky and will never leave her. Love you Heather and I miss you

Experience was great for my daughter she had fun but my hair was an embarrassment and the little amount of hair dye was put in her hair and not even a cut or trim just dye the price was out to lunch 299$, we will be getting our hair done by our local hair dresser we get the same treatment for all 5 of us for under 100 dollars and don't have to worry about my hair being botched!

I called to book an appointment. Never been before, but a friend recommended the salon. I was told I would have to come in for a consultation and then book another appointment after that. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I’m a mom of 2 kids under 3 and can barely get the time to actually go to the salon, let alone waste time on a consultation and have to return. Good way to lose business. What could possibly come of this consultation? They somehow won’t be able to do my hair? How would the consultation result in not being able to do my hair? This makes no sense. Spend a few extra minutes with me in the beginning of the appointment, check out my hair, determine what it needs and get started. Don’t tell the customer they have to come back for their actual appointment. That’s absurd. I’ve never booked with any salon in my life that demanded a consultation. So I’ll be calling any one of them to take my business.
