I've been going here for almost 4 years now! Catherine was recommended to me because she's great at trendy asian male hairstyles. Most other hair dressers in Halifax don't know how to deal with my wiry, coarse hair and are not up to date with the latest asian men's hairstyles. Catherine is different. She learned techniques in New York to deal with my hair type and she has a great understanding of the type of hairstyles I love. I don't trust anyone else with my hair!

I used to color my hairs here and I liked it very much. But today I went to dye my hairs in Trumpers and it turns out to be a totally disaster. I want grey but now I got green hair. Also the green is lighter at the middle of my hair and much darker at the root and tail. I like the experience of my first two visit but this time it really upset me.

Would not recommend this place for getting bangs or bang trims. Went in for a bang trim for the first time here, walked out with the shape of my bangs completely changed. Which is not what you want when asking for just a trim. My bangs are now super uneven, much shorter than I asked for and the framing pieces of hair that I loved so much are gone. Really felt like what I wanted and asked for was ignored in this experience

Amazing salon. I paid the same amount of $$ elsewhere for a fraction of the care, attention, and skill I received at Thumpers. I felt like Nathan truly cared about my hair and wanted to ensure I had the right colour and cut and that I knew how to properly care for my hair after. Definitely get what you pay for, best Salon in HRM!

Though I have haven't received a haircut from this salon, I had purchased some items from their online store and had it shipped to Toronto (this salon is one of the only few to carry high quality French made hair accessories!). Long story short, one item I received wasn't quite what I had expected and the way they addressed the issue so promptly and with utmost courtesy was nothing short of amazing customer service. Definitely recommend this salon to anyone who appreciates the value of excellent customer service and quick responses.

I had silver/grey hair. I told them to make my hair black from the top and leave it silver at the ends. They turned it blue from the top and dark blue at the ends. I asked them why is my hair blue, they said that the blue should wash away after shampooing a few times. I waited 5 days, (shampooed 3/4 times) and revisited their salon and requested them to fix it because I don’t want anyone to see me with blue hair. On my second visit, they did turn the ends silver but the top was still blue. After that they refused to do anymore changes to my hair saying that it would damage my hair further and my hair would start falling off. :( And it cost me $149 in total.

Ok. Used to be a lot better. There’s apparently a new trend for colorists to unwittingly (to customer) add grey in your bleach color. You expect to leave blonde, but look old. You Have to let them know NOT to mix grey in with your hair color. Unless you like that sort of thing

I have really straight, somewhat coarse hair and often find it difficult to find a stylist that can manage it properly. I went to Thumpers Salon today and had my hair cut by Min Kim who did an amazing job. He cut and styled my hair perfectly and even taught me how to style my hair so that it could be a bit wavy. I'll definitely visit him again in the future.

I usually refuse to let anyone touch my hair but after reading all the reviews online, I thought I'd try it out. My experience at Thumpers was outstanding. Okay, a bit pricey and I'm a student, but worth every penny. You really get what you pay for and it's something you have to walk around with everyday. My hair dresser did an amazing job considering it was a color correction. Thumps up!

Always had a great experience every single time I have been, and I will continue to visit Thumpers (going again tomorrow for my birthday treat - and it is a treat).

I was fairly disappointed with my experience here. The stylist was rough and clumsy throughout my appointment. I have fairly long and thick hair, and the appointment took less than 40 minutes including wash and style, which felt like a rush job. I asked for long, flowy layers and basically got no layers. There was an obvious lack of precision and technique, at least from the stylist I had.

My boyfriend called and asked for a fade. They charged him 58$ for Master stylist prices and this was his fade. Botchy and looks like a kid shaved it. When we called back, they said the same stylist who doesn’t know how to do a fade could redo it or get a 13$ refund. Super unhappy and I would be embarrassed to charge 60$ for that.

This is a great facility with friendly, helpful, skilled staff, and an easy online booking system. I've seen a few different stylists there and I always get a cut that is fits what I ask for and is well suited to my hair type and the effort I'm willing to put into in. That would be enough for 5 stars, but I recommend Thumpers to anyone I can for another reason: My grandmother started going to Thumpers every couple weeks in her later years, and as she became less independent I started bringing her. Her appearance was important to her, and having her hair done always lifted her spirits. The staff at Thumpers went out of their way to accommodate her needs, and even brought in an adult sized booster when she got too small for the washing stations. They made sure walkways were clear for her walker and never hurried her, and made space for me to sit with her when she needed a familiar face nearby. Neither of us ever had to ask for these things, various staff members just solved any problem they saw as a common courtesy, helping preserve her dignity and self confidence. They are skilled professionals, and good people.

Vanessa has been my hairstylist for a number of years now. She always does an amazing job! I trust her opinion when I need a formal style for special occasions, and when I need my color and cut done. She has a great eye for knowing what is going to look good on me! I always get amazing compliments from friends, family and coworkers after Vanessa has gotten her hands on my hair! I love going into Thumpers to see her, everyone is so nice and welcoming. I love how bright the salon is, I find it very uplifting! I highly recommend this salon, and the stylists!

I have been going to Thumpers for a few years now and have always liked their services. I recently decided to go back to my natural strawberry blonde from a white bleached blonde and today I had a trim with Malcolm (the owner) for the first time. He is amazing. I mean, all of Thumper's stylists are good - but Malcolm knows everything! All he did was a simple wash and trim and my hair looked FANTASTIC. He also gave me some very helpful tips for dealing with my bleached ends until they grow out. I highly recommend Thumpers to anyone who needs to find a salon to trust.

Rob is AMAZING!!!!!! Highly recommend for any colour or lightening work, cuts and styling. Extremely careful and gentle with hair. He is courteous, kind, and refreshingly professional at the same time. I have visited him twice and the work was spotless each time. However, I must steer you away from Vanessa. She was rough with my hair and scalp, and gave me an extremely patchy toner to the point where I will have to re tone myself. I felt she was slightly unprofessional and distracted, however what truly upset me was the below standard result.

Worst hour experience I’ve had at a salon and also my first review of a place as the experience was that unfortunate. My stylist definitely was unqualified at hair cutting techniques and knowledge. Took about 1 min to cut my thick/layered hair. Then proceeded to do a sub par blow out and no finish or checking of my hair. Then I proceeded to get barrated by the receptionist as I was paying. Waste of my time and money.

I've been a client of Rob's for years. He always does a superb job cutting my hair. Nothing is too much work or trouble when he's trimming my hair. When I move away from NS I will have to return to have my hair styled by Rob. That's how strongly I feel about this genius with his scissors .

The worst racist place in Halifax! Exorbitantly priced with service equivalent to supercuts! Hit and miss really depending on who you land up with. Some are taken from salons across Halifax and are good others are plain pain!

Had a great experience at Thumpers! It was my first time. Vanessa is so talented. I had balayage done at a different salon 6 months ago but needed to add more highlights and also a hair cut. I didn’t know how to describe what I wanted done, I just showed Vanessa a couple of pictures of balayage style I liked and she quickly analyzed what I wanted done and she did a great job! I love my hair, it looks so natural and I know I will be going back to see Vanessa again!

Upscale hair salon. Pricey but it can usually fit you in last minute because it's fairly large and I've never received a bad cut or colour during the 3 years I went there exclusively. Recommended.

I walked in with nice blonde hair that i had done recently (2 months ago) by another salon I just walked in for a root touch up before my birthday because my brown roots were showing a little and wanted fresh hair and I LEFT WITH BROWN HAIR. i did not want anything touched other than my roots but she ended up toning my whole head with brown toner and my blonde i came in with was gone and my roots were still dark. I walked in confident with hair and colour and walked out hating how i look and she ruined all the previous work done to get me blonde. AND they charged 230$ for a root touch up and style so terrible.... waste of money I wish i could get it back and they ruined my hair wish i could get my confidence back
