I went to tennis the other day for the first time. I wanted a simple bang trim and even described how I like my bangs and how short. First he cut them too short so now I have to wait for them to go back out. Second what slain charges $20 for a bang trim that took less then 5 minutes?? I understand paying something for a bang trim. The place I usually go charges $10 but $20???? That us way over priced for a bang trim that takes less then 5 minutes and he did a bad job.

Teknik does it all. When it comes to styling, coloring, or spa services, customers are guaranteed nothing but the best. As a customer who always enjoys changing up her look, I can always trust that my stylist, Vince, will take good care of me. Whether it’s 20 inch extensions or platinum blonde colour, I know I can trust him to make my hair look stunning. Recently, he managed to take me from a deep brunette to blonde for the summer, and I am currently a warm auburn for the fall. The gradual transitions of colouring always ensured that my hair would be healthy. Furthermore, I am able to style it every day with the wonderful array of products my stylist has recommended- frizz diffuser, hairspray, and heat protectant. When it comes to extensions, I had been a clip-in-aholic for nearly three years until Tekinik introduced me to Great Lengths; individual-bond extensions that stay in for up to six months. This saved me the morning hassle and allowed for me to have natural-looking long hair that I could style easily. In the end, Tekinik provides genuinely terrific service, suggestions, and outcomes and I am extremely happy to be a client.

Julia was beyond AMAZING!!! I have had extensions in my hair for well over 10+ years straight, leaving MAJOR damage... I decided it was time to start fresh with a modern blunt bob - a dramatic change!!! From start to finish, my stylist was open, helpful and supportive. Staff was very friendly. Free wifi, drinks offered like coffee and hot chocolate. They hang your coat up for you etc. I went in with my boyfriend and he got a quote for his (he didn’t ask for one) and had to sign before they started. When I got mine done I had asked for the back to be trimmed and to take off split ends. I probably had maybe an inch cut off OVERESTIMATING. Took the stylist about 5 minutes to do it. He then dried my hair and said he wouldn’t charge me for a full cut. So I go up to the counter to pay and I was told I had to pay $83. I paid and didn’t say anything but I was quite upset and confused. He barely touched my hair and then told me that he was charging me less.. was this the cost he meant or did he forget to tell the receptionist.. I’m unsure. My boyfriend got highlights in his hair for $111. I wish I would have thought about seeing a quote too before mine, but I had forgotten about it by the time I started. As a student I can say that this is not something I’d recommend if you are looking to save money. BUT PLEASE do not get me wrong.. the place and the people were all lovely and this isn’t bashing them. Reviews are to let other people know their experience and to give feedback! The salon is a luxury place and if you are not concerned about money then I’d recommend.

Teknik Salon & Spa is by far the BEST hair salon I have ever walked into! And I have been through a LOT of salons across KW with mostly disappointing results. Teknik has absolutely exceeded all my expectations. The facility looks great and has a very warm and welcoming feeling. The staff is ABSOLUTELY amazing and extremely friendly. I definitely agree with the other reviews here stating that they have been treated like family, it really does feel that way. It was truly an enjoyable experience. I walked in with a vague idea of what I wanted with my hair, and my hairdresser Joe was able to explain all different options that would complement my idea so that I could make the right decision for myself. Long story short, I walked out of the salon looking EXACTLY as I had imagined. The hairdressers at Teknik are TRULLY skilled at what they do, and I am so relieved to say I will never feel nervous again to go get my hair done. I have already scheduled my next “maintenance” appointment, and I can comfortably say I will keep coming back to this salon! VERY happy customer :) Definitely recommending this place to everyone!

Went to get my nails done here and said she doesn't do acrylic but she'd try with something else. They looked OK at first but then I noticed lots of bumps in them and some were unevenly shaped. The longer I had them the more they became unappealing to me. 6 days later one of them fell off and my thumb nails are almost off as well. She ended up charging me $70 for it and honestly it was so not worth it and a waste of money. Do NOT go here to get your nails done, you'll be extremely disappointed.

I had my previous hairstyle for my whole life prior to first visiting Teknik, and was quite nervous to get it changed. Fortunately, Vince was more than helpful and very enthusiastic when he showed me examples I could try, to the point where I decided to let him do what he thought best. I had a haircut with Joe Romeo and I have to say, it exceeded my expectations. The haircut itself was well done but it was the whole package that took the experience to the next level. When I sat down with Joe, he asked me about my hair care routine, lifestyle, and preference. And based on this, he gave me a (very needed) honest feedback. Joe recommended a simple long cut that will look great and suit my lifestyle of minimal care and styling. I have a habit of never going to a salon twice so I've tried out a ton of salons before. You can get a good haircut anywhere but Teknik goes beyond that and gives you a great haircut that will look stunning long after the visit to the salon.

Teknik does it again! I have been coming to this salon for a few years now, and they never seize to amaze. The atmosphere, the service, the experience...it is all top notch. Today I had a hair cut by Vince who is a real hair artist. He has a keen eye for styling and cutting hair in a way that compliments your face and personality. After being referred here to see Andrea I was incredibly excited. As a working Mama it's really hard to find the time to make and get to appointments, so when I'm able to I like to make sure I'm going to a beautiful salon where I'm going to feel pampered. The first half of the appointment was wonderful. Andrea chatted with me about my hair history and what I was looking to have done. I had a great wash/shampoo and then moved to the chair to have my cut. As she was beginning to dry my hair she was made aware her next client had arrived and then thats when the appointment changed. The final dry cut and style were very quick and I was not shown the back of my hair. I definitely could've asked, but I had already asked if she could put a serum on my hair as there were lots of fly aways. It all just seemed super rushed so she could move onto her next client. That all being said, the salon is gorgeous and clean, the front desk staff are lovely and my cut turned out great. I just felt kind of sad leaving the appointment as these are my times to get away and feel pampered, and by the end I felt like an inconvenience. :(

Hands down, the best salon in town!

This review has been edited from its original version. Originally I gave this salon three stars due to what I perceived was some strange and not customer focused policies which filtered down to the consumer. According to management there was a miscommunication created by a receptionist. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I can raise my rating to a full five stars. They really did put forth a good amount of effort once they knew I was unhappy with the original level of service that I received and that effort says a lot about this company as a small business. There are far too many other organizations that would not do the same for their customers. This salon is fairly typical of a high-end salon. Appointments are generally on time and planning is very good, due to them having a dedicated reception staff. They do sell their own product line which is excellent and loved by many and sets them apart from other salons. They have a good cross section of stylists with different ages and specialties which means that no matter who you are, you’ll be able to find the perfect style or cut here. One note: Unlike most places, here you are forced to tip in cash. There’s no real reason for it, but it exists, so be aware (esp if you’re under the age of 35 and don’t carry any cash ever). The stylist are very good and deserve a tip, so don’t be caught by not having cash on you.

Teknik is a beautiful salon and Vince is very friendly. However, I was told that kid’s hair cuts start at $35 and after my 8 year old received a wash, trim and “style” was charged $120. I was told that Vince had to spend extra time on her hair bc it’s long and thick, so they charged me the adults price. My problem is that my daughter left the salon looking worse than how I brought her in, so there is no adult in their right mind that would pay $120 for that hairstyle! I had to take her home and spend an hour redoing her hair, which was a bitter pill to swallow after paying $120 at Teknik. I could understand paying $70 (double the kids starting price) because her hair is thick but at least her braids should’ve been tight. Also, please give clients a heads up if the price you quoted will be drastically different from the price they will be charged once services are provided.

Hands down the best hair colour and cut I've ever had! I was a bit nervous - going from dark long hair to blonde balayage but wow, somehow Julia made it look natural. Like the sun came down and kissed my hair! My stylist really really knows her stuff - I felt like she was extremely intent on doing the best job - and she worked hard, I was there over three hours!! I have been going to this salon for nearly five years now and I absolutely love it. Krista has been my stylist and colourist ever since day one. She is absolutely incredible and insanely talented! She's so great that my mom asked if she could start going to her as well. Let's just put it simply, my mom (who lives two hours away) makes special trips to Kitchener, just so Krista can do her hair. That says it all! Krista will also be doing my hair on my wedding day this August. I couldn't imagine having another hair stylist doing my hair on such a special day. I absolutely love this salon. I initially found it based off of high reviews for my wedding. Vince and his daughter made my hair exactly what I wanted for my day. And they made my Mom's hair gorgeous too. They are very talented and really friendly people. Two months after my wedding I even took the 2 hour drive from where I live just for them to give me balayage. Vince's other daughter, the colour technician, is equally as talented. I visited Teknik yesterday for the first time. I wanted my long hair cut into a stacked bob and I wanted highlights. I showed Domenic some photos I had on my phone that weren't that great and he went out of his way to find better ones that showed the cut in more detail. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted in a friendly and warm atmosphere. The colourist who did my highlights was so warm and friendly and they turned out to be the best highlights I've ever had. After being recommended to this salon, and more specifically Rosa I went to their Instagram page to do some research. All the work they have posted is so well done and beautiful so of course I went ahead and booked. I brought in a picture of what I was hoping to achieve and Rosa gave me a realistic breakdown of the number of appointments it would take to achieve that look without damaging my hair and the cost of the first appointment and even an idea of how much my appointments would cost to maintain. During the appointment she kept me in the loop of what she was doing and why she was doing it. At the end of my appointment there was no surprises and I left loving my new hair. The blonde in the photo wasn’t achievable at the first appointment but she still made the first step as beautiful as the end goal. The atmosphere during my appointment was so fun and comfortable, I can’t wait for my next booking!

I guess I would have to say excellent - I've been going there for 13 years now, so I must be pretty satisfied. Aside from the decor (which is outstanding) the ambiance is second to none. Every staff member knows and practices Teknik's moto "From the moment you arrive . . . Prepare to Indulge". To most men, a haircut is a necessity of life. For women however it can be one of the highlights or low lights of the month. And I have to say I see a lot of happy (and beautiful women) leaving there. Definitely worth a try.

I am a new client. I walked in earlier to book an appointment. The receptionist greeted friendly and did all the COVID-19 safety measures. I met my stylist Dil and she is very polite and professional. I had a hair cut and hair colour. Dil brought in the colour book and explain the difference between the colour coding. She asked how I want my hair styled and she also offer valuable suggestion. She is very detailed and she is very skillful too (she doesn’t wear an apron when colouring my hair!). After the hair was done, I really like the result - the colour, the length, and style. The place is clean and I can see someone constantly sweeping the floor. There are lots of hair stylists and customers talking, a very friendly environment, but the noise didn’t bother me at all. I think it is because of the high ceiling. That’s why I give five star, especially to Dil. Thank you Dil.

I went to the salon on Wednesday June 20 2018 for a relaxing manicure and pedicure. I arrived at my appointment on time and then waited 30 minutes before my appointment started. The room was not yet cleaned and the spa technician was not ready for me. Once I was seated the lady was interrupted several times by other employees advising her she had another customer waiting. I was not impressed as I too was a paying customer. The pedicure was rushed and I felt anything but relaxed. The French manicure was even worst, the white tips are uneven and lumpy. I went in for an appointment for a shellac manicure just over 2 weeks ago. I was told my appointment would be with Kim, who had done a great job on a shellac manicure I received the previous summer. I arrived on time for my appointment and I told the receptionist I had an appointment for a shellac manicure with Kim. She told me that Kim wasn't there yet and asked me to have a seat in the waiting area. She didn't seem very interested in helping me or tracking Kim down but I noticed that she asked the next customer, a young man, if he wanted coffee, tea or water (I was not asked). I waited for over 20 minutes, during which time I was asked by 2 different employees who I was waiting for. Finally the second employee, Pam, the esthetician, approached me again and told me that the appointment was actually with her. Pam told me that Kim no longer does shellac manicures and I was surprised that the receptionist did not know this and that Pam and the other employee also did not figure out the mix-up sooner. Unfortunately my experience with Pam was not great. She cut two of my fingers along the side of my finger with the nail file, which felt like the equivalent of a paper cut and stung a lot when the polish remover was applied afterwards. My nails were fairly well shaped to begin with but she continued to file them aggressively even after my fingers had been cut. I needed 3 coats of colour because the polish application was streaky and there were a couple nails where the application was uneven (i.e. thicker on one side than the other) and did not extend all the way to the side of the nail. There was also a clump of hardened polish at the bottom of one nail and one of my nails chipped after 1.5 weeks. When I returned to have the polish removed 2 weeks after the initial appointment I again received a cut on my finger, this time at the cuticle, as a result of her aggressive use of the buffer block and had to endure more painful stinging from the polish remover. It took the better part of an hour to remove the polish and the only explanation I received for this was that bio gel polish was used for my manicure and it is more difficult to remove than shellac polish. Normally a metal tool is used to remove shellac polish but she was only using an orange stick so I think that might be part of the problem. At least I wasn't charged for the removal. Honestly, I have received better manicures from new grads. I have never had my fingers cut up so much from a manicure and this is not the quality of work I would expect from someone with several years of experience in the industry. I will not be returning.

I went to teknik about 2 weeks ago to get blonde highlights. Not only did she refuse to do it saying my hair was going to break and fall out (I just went to my normal hairstylist on Sunday and she did exactly what I asked and my hair is totally fine). She embarrassed me by pulling over 2 other people (her dad and aunt) and they all sat and told me about how dead my hair was and insulted the color I had it. I was so embarrassed and just wanted to get out of there. When I got up and started to leave she followed behind me apologizing and started crying. I felt as though they made a show of me and it was extremely unprofessional and embarrassing. Thankfully I went elsewhere and they had absolutely no problem getting me to blonde and my hair still looks and feels completely fine. I hope they read this and at least learn not to make such a scene with a brand new client.

Love this place! From the minute you walk in the door, all of the staff is very welcoming. Great team environment, fantastic atmosphere and delicious coffee bar. Kristina and Rosa always handle my colour, finished with the BEST scalp massages. Vince handles the cut and most recently he put in a full head of extensions. This was my first time at Teknik Salon and I was amazed at the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the salon! I had no clue what style or how short I wanted to go since my hair was really damaged. Mind you, I had not cut it in over a year! Dil was very attentive, friendly and professional. She recommended different treatments, techniques and advised me on how to take care of my dry, frizzy hair. She gave me the perfect cut I was looking for. Yesterday was my first visit to Teknik. From the moment you walk in the door, you are treated like family. Kristina is so talented with colour. She’ll take the time to listen to what you want and recommend what’s best for your hair, and also make sure it’s still going to look good in 4 weeks. And she’s fast! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone put foils in so quickly! Vince is amazing with cut and styling and actually LISTENS to what you want. He’s just as warm and wonderful as Kristina. He was able to cut and style my hair to give it the body I wanted, but leave the length I wanted to keep. Definitely a really great experience with Kristina and Vince, and I’ll be back.

Teknik is a family run business and they work together to ensure their customers have a luxurious and pampering experience from the time you enter the door. My first visit to the salon I have to admit I was a little nervous. I was not from Kitchener and had not heard of the salon. I knew I wanted to make a real change to my hair style. It was very dry and had become over processed. After my consultation with Vince I knew I was in the right hands. He shared his ideas with me regarding what he thought we should do and the options open to me. Together we decided what changes we would make that day and we set a plan of what we would strive to do over the upcoming months. Vince honestly told me I would have to be patient, it would take some time before all of the damage to my hair could be corrected but we would get there. I have to tell you I am so glad I followed Vince`s advice. He was right with his recommendations, he and the team have totally transformed my hair. The colour has been changed, the style is totally updated and my hair is now healthy and growing. I love my new look. Vince and the Teknik team are experts in what they do with many years of experience. When you go, talk to them about what you want but also listen to their recommendations. I have always had a positive experience at Teknik. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Joe gives me a great cut that enables easy maintenance at home. I was recently at Teknik for a "smoothing treatment". Amazing! My hair has never been so easy to style. Blow drying time is much less as is the use of my flat iron. My hair feels and looks so healthy! I don't even notice the usual effects of the summer humidity. I would highly recommend it! 6 years later... I recently had another smoothing treatment at Teknik. Amazing results! My hair feels silky and healthy and easier to style! So I had sallys 4n colour in my hair when I went in. I asked to go blonde with olapex. After he stripped it he put brown all the way through with blonde highlights. I even showed him a picture of blonde hair and a touch of very light brown. It costed 478 and I sat for 4 hours. When I looked in the mirror I saw the same colour hair and 8 highlights. I think the people may be nice but the prices & skills are not good at all. I went to Romeos in Waterloo it was 160 to go blonde from the same colour as the 4n with highlights! So there's that.

Tried out their shellac manicure, and one of the worst manicures I've EVER had. The lady who did my manicure (Pam) used old shellac nail polish, it was terrible. After I got home, and had a closer look (cause you can't see anything in the dark room that they do it in) I saw clumps of nail polish. Looks horrible! After reading reviews below, I realized that I'm not the only one who had a very poor shellac experience. Disappointing! Will not be returning. Just a friendly suggestion, I think you need to be more concerned with your quality of services rather than my credibility. Thanks!

I've been going to Teknik Salon & Spa for over 20 years and they never cease to amaze me. From the moment you walk in to the time you leave they make you feel special. Vince has been doing my hair for 20+ years, and he's seen me from long to short and through different stages. He's always been very supportive and patient with me through my phases and always making my hair look amazing. In the past year Kristina has been doing my highlights and colour and what an amazing job she has been doing. My hair colour always looks rich and beautiful. I went to Teknik for the first time just over a month ago now. Everyone was very nice and made me feel comfortable. Rosa did my highlights and Vince cut, blowdried and styled my hair. Everything turned out amazing and couldn't be happier. I felt I could trust them and after years of debating to put extensions in my hair I booked an appointment to put them in. I have since got my hair extensions and a touch up appointment for my highlights and I could not be happier. Vince did an amazing job. They have built up my confidence a bit. They were a little heavy at first and do take a bit of getting used to but I would get them again in a heart beat. They have added so much length and volume to my hair.

I booked a hair appointment a few months ago with their junior stylist. I have naturally fine curly hair and I asked for a trim. I was happy with the simple cut, however the stylist sent me home with my hair half wet to "air dry". She told me "I'm gonna let the rest of your hair air dry" which put me in an awkward position to say no that I would rather have it blow dried and styled at the least... I thought for the amount of money that I paid, over $60 with a tip, (which was more expensive than what was advertised on the website) was not worth for the lack of professionalism. I was very disappointed considering the amount of positive reviews.

When I tell you that you need to switch to Teknik salon, you NEED to switch to Tiknik salon. My hair has always been that weird mix between curly and wavy and has been a hassle for me for all too long. Going to my old salon I felt as though I never bonded with any hairdressers and that I was an outcast. Within my first appointment at Teknik I felt like I had found my new forever home. Every single member there is knowledgeable, kind, understanding and friendly. They are informative and will guide you to help you achieve what you want from your hair. I went to the salon for the first time a few day ago after reading all of the positive reviews. I had been going to the another salon (and stylist) for the past 17 years and was a little nervous about trying something new. I'm SO glad I did! Vince was remarkable -- I was extremely impressed by his kindness and skill and knowledge. I have NEVER been so happy with a cut. I've had more compliments on this style than all the cuts over the past 17 years combined. The most wonderful thing was looking in the mirror and feeling like he had somehow managed to find ME under all of that hair! Another welcome change was the relaxed atmosphere of the salon. I felt at home immediately and enjoyed the experience from start to finish. If you're thinking about making a change -- DO IT! This is a special place.

Based on the great reviews here, I went ahead and booked an appointment for a haircut at Teknik. My hairdresser was somebody named Joe. The moment I sat in the chair, he started praising himself and his amazing ‘abilities’ in a very cocky manner. His inflated ego was enough for me to want to get up and walk away. He seemed to have a God’s complex and being the down to earth person that I am, I get highly disturbed by people like him. I wanted to trust my instincts and leave but since I’m a polite person (and also needed a haircut badly), I decided to just put up with his disgusting attitude and hope his haircutting skills will not disappoint me as much as his personality. The haircut I wanted was very simple. I just needed a trim and a straight line haircut. The main reason why I’m writing this post is not to bash him about his personality, because we meet jerks everywhere, that’s life. The reason why I’m posting this is because they are scammers. Being an old haircutter, I guess he charges more than other stylists. I was quoted $75 over the phone (which is ridiculous already for a trim) which I once again confirmed before sitting in the chair at the salon. It took him less than 30 minutes to cut my hair and blow dry it. As I am ready to pay, this old lady receptionist with overly done plastic face and overly exposed chest is like, “so it will be $120 for today”. I was told $75+HST but was charged extra $30 for unknown reasons. She assumed it was because I have long hair. Even if that was the reason, shouldn’t they have the decency to mention that to me before they begin to cut? Especially if I asked twice, once on the phone and once in person. Oh and one more thing. He really tries hard to sell his keratin treatment which he quoted over $1200 LOL. He’s like, “I’m the best of the best and guess what? I won’t be doing the work. My girls will be doing all of it. I’m just going to tell them what to do, I just stand there close by, because it makes the customer feel good”. LOL. Those are the exact words he said. I think he got offended when I told him, “..but..but it’s just hair, not surgery” LOL. Oh and be careful when you’re filling out the form they give you. They ask what your profession is. Which is pretty fishy if you ask me. It’s none of your business what I do in the first place. I think they guess how rich you are so they can scam you and hope that you won’t mind giving them some extra dollars since you got plenty to spare. Yes, I have money and I work hard for it. But I won’t throw it away like that, especially on cocky arrogant sneaky people. I never ever write reviews, let alone bad reviews, but I feel it’s important to call them out on their fraudulent activities and not let them get away and infest society with their filthy ways.

Love the new salon on Weber Street! Very bright and airy. They’ve done a wonderful job with protective measures so you know you're safe the moment you walk in the door, which was very much appreciated. Best of all, they brought the same energy and friendly atmosphere with them from the last location—one of my favourite things about this salon. As for Vince, no one in the world can cut hair like this man. He’s a true artist. So happy they’re back up and running and part of our community!
