I left my long-term stylist to have a texture service done here that I could not find anywhere else. Then I got hooked and transferred all my routine services (cut, color, treatments) here for the last 12 months. I love the atmosphere (plants, music, open concept), the entertainment (Fred), and laughs with my person (Krista). It is expensive but I don't mind paying for quality, and you get what you pay for. In my case, curly hair needs someone who understands it, and I loved my old person (at Tidal) but am planning to stay at FRED

I went in with no strong opinions any which way about what I wanted, just stated my comfort zone and let Fred work his magic. He was very understanding about my autism and we had a lovely chat throughout the service. I walked out with the best hair cut I’ve ever had. My only regret is that I’m moving out of the country and I can’t return regularly. Cheers, it was a pleasure.

I haven't eaten out in a long time due to a touch of Orthorexia (self diagnosed) so when looking for a place to have a mutual birthday lunch with my friend, I was impressed to find some great healthy choices here. I had the GF pizza and my friend had the seafood cakes...both were impressive. The staffs was excellent and the prices were unbelievable for such a trendy place with great art on display. You are not going to walk away stuffed, but that was not the point. I will definitely be going back soon to check out the coffee.

I am a Fred and Joel Groupie. Fred is the best hair stylist (I was going to say this side of Montreal) but he is just the best. Joel is nothing short of genius when it comes to food. Awesome place awesome couple!!

My friend had her haircut at this salon recently and is still reeling from the blatant lack of professionalism from the stylist who cut her hair. My friend is from Singapore and speaks impeccable English. This stylist began uninvited conversations about language barriers and his experience with Chinese international students in university group projects in which he felt he had to teach his fellow students English. He asked my friend if she had experienced any Asian hate in the wake of COVID-19. He responded to her love of ice cream by asking if she had a lot of dairy in China, when she had previously clearly said she was from Singapore. He also mentioned that he won’t be returning to Thailand because of the poverty and lack of cleanliness. He also mentioned that when he worked in Chinatown he would have clients that would be more “pale” than him, and assumed that their desire to be pale was to avoid associating with a “certain class” of labourers. This is clearly ignorant, racist treatment of my friend who simply wanted a haircut. The salon should apologise, but no amount of apology will set right the behaviour of this stylist. This sort of behaviour ought not to be tolerated. The stylist’s name is Fred Connors and he should personally apologise and commit to educating himself and the rest of the staff in basic cultural competency to avoid traumatising clients in the future. Fred himself has said, “The people who write negative comments about me online are the ones who have the time to sit there and do that. I’m too busy actually making stuff happen”, but this flagrant pride in being controversial will not excuse racist treatment of clients. Casual racism like this is unacceptable and disgusting.

I've known Fred, Joel, and team for year and years! They are a stellar group of people who pump out work of the highest quality. There truly is no other salon in Halifax like FRED. I've not been to the NYC location but can only imagine how wonderful it is under Fred & Joel's direction. Small business charm with first class quality!

Very impressed, with the entire staff. Made the last day of spring break very special for my special daughter. Her hair is gorgeous, the staff; from the front desk(a lovely young lady who squeezed in an appt), her stylist,(Stephanie, whom my daughter loved), Fred ( whom she adored), and the guys in the cafe, who made the best salted carmel latte ever. Made a spring break; when it seemed she was "the only one working and not going away". Thanks so much. The place is amazing, the customer service superior.

Just saw a very unprofessional rant on social media by Fred Connors. I would avoid this place like the plague after listening to this guy and his condescending attitude toward clients. Take your business somewhere else! This guy clearly thinks he is better than everyone else and has the right to speak down to people.
