This place is amateur at best, aside from one or two stellar stylists that really know what they’re doing. Been going here since I was a kid (due to cheap pricing and location) and I’ve only had a handful of good experiences (I prefer my hair long, so I don’t get it cut often, maybe once or twice a year) I decided to get my hair dyed for the first time last November, and it looked great. The stylist nailed it, I was more than pleased. However, when I went back in February to get a new colour, the stylist I usually had wasn’t there. I wanted the roots of my hair dyed black, and the ends silver. When they were done with me, my entire head was black, no sign of silver anywhere. They kept telling me that it looked just like I wanted it to, which wasn’t true at all. They left black dye all over my neck and forehead, which didn’t wash off for days after. I avoided going back until today, I gave them one last try, where I was met with a very rude employee. The salon was completely empty, aside from one old lady out back getting her hair dyed. I asked for a dye and cut, to which she responded with “yeah, you have to book a colour appointment.” I’ve been getting my hair coloured there for almost a year, and not once have I been told that I needed to book. It’s always been a walk-in service. I explained to her, and before I could finish, she cut me off and said “no, you can’t just walk in, go book an appointment and come back.” I just left, won’t be booking an appointment, or coming back again...

At first I was skeptical due to the heavy presence of negative review! However, one day I needed an emergency haircut for a formal event and time wasn't on my side so I gave this place a shot! Upon arriving, the staff was friendly and made me feel comfortable and asked what type of haircut I like and even taught me how to style my hair properly! Ever since I been a regular! Thank You!

I went to this place 3 times to get my haircut and showed a picture of the haircut I wanted all 3 times. Here's what I got: 3 different haircuts and none were even close to the haircut I wanted. Its like they just disregarded what I asked and gave me what they wanted. Never going back again.

Absolutely terrible!!!!! The service was horrendous and the damage done to both of my son's hair was unbelievable!!! I could have done a better job with a bowl and a pair of garden shears!!!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!! The worst part about the whole experience was calling to speak with a manager about the issues and having her brush me off stating that there was nothing she could do and everyone has a different opinion of what a good haircut looks like!!! Absolutely atrocious treatment!!!!!!

I was really disappointed in the effort that was put in. I got my hair cut and dyed and left so disappointed I went to Walmart to pick up a box dye to fix it straight after leaving. It wasn't as expensive as some alternatives and for just a simple quick cut it is convenient however I would not go back! She also kicked my cat.

Went in just to get daughter's blonde hair toned,nothing else. Took them less than 45 mins. Not only was it patchy but was charged over 100 bucks for it,plus your forced into leaving a tip, so it was well over what it should have been. We didn't realize how horrible it was until we got home. I used to go to my hairdressers in swift current for 20 dollars for them to fix my tone. If that's all you need, go over to Sally's across the parking lot and buy it for less than 20. Won't go back.

Called to tell this hair dressers that they need to sanitize and do diligence in preventing passing along hair lice. I went to get my hair cut here a couple weeks ago and a couple days after could not stop itching! I got my boyfriend to check and recheck my hair and he only just found the actual lice today. I called but they said being two weeks since my appointment I could have gotten it anywhere, and that they refuse any customers with lice. Well first off, I'm a stay at home mom who spends all my time at home with my only child who has no hair yet. I haven't had any visitors and have not had lice since I was a very young child and have a very ritualistic routine. And secondly - you're telling me you check every bodies head for lice before you cut? No - if you see the lice during a cut you have to finish. Also have heard many bad reviews about first choice not following cleaning protocol with their hair utensils. Very disappointed with the service and how they handled this situation and frankly disgusted. If I could put 0 stars I would and I will never be going there again!!! ????????????

I attempted to have my haircut on a Friday around 1:00pm. I went in and a gentlemen was already having his haircut. The woman working inside looked at me like I was inconveniencing her but came over, told me it would be about 10-15 minutes and took down my info, stating she would call me when I could return. I went to the nearby bank and returned in a few minutes and watched the gentlemen before me leave. Ten minutes later and still no call, okay maybe she is cleaning up or on break. Ten more minutes, an elderly woman enters the salon, leaves about 15 minutes later. Okay, maybe she had an appointment, still no call, another gentlemen enters and starts getting his haircut. I drive away. If you are busy, why not say that? I'll come back later, but to blatantly lie about 15 minutes and have me sit and wait for an hour is just incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. As of the writing of this, almost two hours later, still no call to even say sorry there was a mistake or a mix-up. I will not be back.

This is definitely a 'cross your fingers' kind of chain, but overall I've had pretty good luck with First Choice visits. Most stylists are passionate about their work, are eager to practice/learn or are quite seasoned. Ladies cuts aren't typically very affordable, I bring some photos and roll the dice with who I get - usually I leave with a totally acceptable $30 cut after tip.

I should have known better, but decided to give it a try. Absolutely mangled my poor hair. The haircut makes no sense and nothing is even and it does not flow at all. I said trim and 4 inches were cut off. And there's all weird pieces of hair, very choppy, like someone just cut wherever they felt like. I do not recommend.

Babys first haircut. Nothing special was really done to make it the special memory that it is for every new parent. Was refunded because I guess first haircut in life is free. So that doesn't go without appreciation.. but did have to repeat myself far too many times to the stylist before my boy was ending up with a bowl cut. No offense. In the end.. hair grows back I guess. Maybe just an off day for her.. but I do think the first time cut should have a little more life brought to the experience at ANY salon.. let alone a unisex/family establishment.

Amidst CoVid I was reluctant (as I’m sure many are) to be in a public place for so long. My hair usually takes 4 hours to do because I maybe go 2-3 times a year but all hesitations aside when I arrived. I was greeted so kindly at the door and asked to please wait outside as they are limiting the amount of clients in the salon. I was required to wear a mask, all the staff wore masks as well. Such a lively and friendly atmosphere and for a first time Mom away from my little Daughter for the longest stretch ever, I felt totally safe and had one of the best ME days in a long time. Those ladies are sanatizing everything!! The broom handles once touched, the sink, everything!!! And credit to them because the prices have only increased by Maybe $1 to cover the cost of their PPE, which they all wore. I ALWAYS get amazing service there and the absolute BEST colour and cut. I don’t know how they do it but my colour lasts for months. Highly recommend. Nicky is amazing!!!! All the ladies are. Thank you for giving this new-CoVid scared-Mama a special and FUN afternoon. ❤️❤️❤️

Both my mom and I have a short pixie hair style and we've been going to Christine for a long time. One of the many amazing things about Christine's abilities is that she can do a modern and classy look for my mom, and then a trendy and sporty look for me. She doesn't do a "one style fits all" type of approach. When I had long hair, she did an amazing braid style for my wedding photo shoot. Another amazing thing about Christine is that she listens to what you want and actually creates what you describe. It's a relief to have a stylist that will do a consistently amazing job with every appointment, and I don't have to think, "I wonder what I'll end up with this time" like I have had with other stylists in the past before I found her. She's also super honest with what suits your hair type, face shape, and complexion. I get a TON of compliments on my hair wherever I go thanks to Christine!

I have been coming here for a while and have hardly been having positive experiences. I went again just recently and that will be the final time I go. All I wanted was a simple trim, and as a result, they left me with very long hairs on the sides of my head that were never cut, and the back is longer on one side than the other. I have to use scissors to try and fix what they did, and this is after spending almost $30. They're happy to take your money, and that means doing a half-hearted job so that you'll leave and they can move onto the next customer. I will not be back.

I just get a simple cut and layering every 6-14 months. I’m in and out in 20 minutes. The staff are friendly [not too chatty; I have social anxiety] and thankfully my hairdresser today wasn’t wearing perfume [the last one I had in December did]. If you are expecting a salon level pampering, I wouldn’t go here. My family and I are simple people and enjoy First Choice. I used to goto a salon downtown and hated it because it was expensive for a simple cut. And I don’t understand why people complain about ‘worst hair cut’. KEEP YOUR BILL! If clearly states that if you are not satisfied, they will cut it again for free! I did this 2 years ago. [Which was hard with my social anxiety but I managed]. And they were polite about it and everything. I highly recommend being vocal about what you want [I actually forgot today to ask for layers until the end so she went back in and did it, turned out great]. If you don’t like your cut, go back in with your bill and have them cut it to your specifications. Try a different hairdresser. Some are great with layering, others are better with buzzcutters.

I come here often to get my hair cut and styled. The stylists at this location are all friendly and helpful, and I've had positive experiences every time I've been. It's great being able to walk in when I find some available time and get a quick trim and style. They also sell a variety of accessories and products and are always willing to give advice and offer discounts when applicable, even though the value of the services are already incredibly reasonable. Highly recommended!

My experience was a good one....The person I had cut my hair, was friendly, upbeat, and talkative....just the way I like it....Never mind the person at the counter who is short with you, like you're bothering her.....once inside with your hairdresser, things improve. ;)

I have been going to them for a while now and I have to say that they have definitely become my "first choice" when I want to get my hair cut.They have a very friendly staff who were very lenient with me when I decided to have a walk-in rather than making an appointment. They are really good at what they do and every time I have had my hair cut by them,I have left feeling satisfied with my haircut as they have always not only asked me on how I would like my hair to be cut but also they have given me some very valuable advice on what would happen if i cut my hair more from one end. If there were any complaints I have,that would be that I had to wait a little bit more than I expected but honestly that might be more because of the fact that I haven't made a prior appointment before. In conclusion, I would like to say that they are very good at what they do and you should definitely try them out. Who knows? They might be your "first choice" for your next haircut!

When I when there the person who was in front. Give my self the person who was in training. I ask the person about previous experiences. She said i have 4 years of experience. But she was in training. I saw her picture for hair style and start cutting. She didn't know was she was doing. She took 1 hour to cut my hair. Even No one ask to that this person is in training to if you don't feel comfortable than someone else can cut your hair. Finally after 1 hour licenses person take over my hair cut and She was great so she tired bring my hair cut on track. But she couldn't. At end my hair cut was massed up. And I was very disappointed. I don't recommend someone should go there and get hair cut with under training person... And "first choice " please ask the customer before you handed them to the under training person. Really Really disappointed ☹️

Went in. Explained that I wanted a pixie cut that I could just mess up and spike, showed pictures of what I was looking for and got a short cut that just does nothing. When I booked I said I wanted it dried and styled and that wasn't done either. Shouldn't have to pay for a cut that is not at all what was wanted. Its super short and just fuzzy. I'm embarrassed to be seen like this. I'm extremely unimpressed. The manager fixed the hair cut thankfully. She textured it and styled it. Much happier now

I've had the unfortunate experience during some previous haircuts to walk out with a scraggly cut, bits of hair on the face and neck, or too much gel in the hair. Not today! My friend got his hair cut by this Michelle person and I had redo it when we got home, then unfortunately I ended up with the same person for my hair and was unable pleased do not ask her to layer not good. Then my sister went with my niece and same girl and then told my sister that she can not guarantee this hair cut because she moved a bit. I move more than she did and it's just straight cut for goodness sake. Will make sure never to go to her again or I will wait for another person from now on

I have been going here since 2008. I took my 6 year old daughter for a haircut on June 24, 2017 and there were 14 people ahead of us So I left our name and ran some errands. Although it was very busy the staff were very professional, calm and attentive to the clients. My daughter received an excellant cut and the stylist was very patient and kind. The prices here are the most affordable and can't be beat for the high quality of service you receive from the staff. I wish they would open another store in Antigonish.

We were able to get an appointment the same day as we called but it was for my child and no one acknowledged him at all. I always go to first choice it’s cheap and they get me in quick, however somehow every time they cut my hair it’s never done right the first time. The last time I went for bangs what I usually get from them as I have long hair and don’t get anything fancy I had to go back but they did fix them. Today I asked for what I don’t think is hard is whispy bangs simply meaning I don’t want thick cut bangs which I had explained, she asked me what length I want I said to my eyebrows. Somehow I’ve ended up with short UGLY bangs above my eyebrows that are choppy and overall a disaster. She knew I wasn’t pleased with them and repeated several times that I just need to train them. Training them to lay flat without my part will not fix them and now I have to wait months for them to grow out, I refuse to go back I don’t want more of my hair to be chopped Willy Nilly and they cannot take back what’s done. Honestly just pay the extra money for a high end salon because this one is honestly trash with inexperienced hair stylists.

Nice friendly staff and a good establishment. They gave me a good basic cut in about 15 minutes max. The downsides were that I had to wait about 20 minutes which was longer than the haircut itself. I over heard that 20 minutes is a short wait for that location so I would advise calling ahead before just walking in because you could end up with a long wait. Also, the air conditioning was broken when I was there and the till broke and the staff switched to cash which luckily I had. These two issues would have made it barely a 3 star but the pleasant staff and good quality haircut mixed in with her attention to detail (added 10% off for military just because it came up in conversation) saved the 4th star in my opinion. Basic cut with discount for $16.75.
