This past Saturday was my 3rd visit, with my regular stylist away on maternity leave, I was paired up with another stylist. I was nervous, as you would be. I'm happy to say that I was paired up with a lovely young lady by the name of Lydda Holt. She was very attentive to my needs and while my appointment was a little longer than I was expecting, I am absolutely thrilled with the end result. I was absolutely clear with the young man who was about to put high lights and low lights in my hair. I have been highlighting my hair for many years and less often add some low lights. It would have been impossible to be more clear. I also told I have red in my hair naturally and would prefer not to see any. What's with the toner? Everyone in the salon recieved some sort of toner that day! I told him I'd rather not, he put it in anyway! When he attempted a fix up later, I was more adamant and direct with him. Hold the toner!! Again he put it in anyway. I am 68yrs old and know my own hair, but this Jeeves would not work with me! Thus , there is little if any definition to my head of red hair! Very dissatisfied. Would not go back even if they offered to fix it AGAIN!

There are many more salons now that Victoria is growing by leaps and bounds. The true value of an excellent salon is actually, in my view, their service and commitment to their clientele's happiness. Someone once said that hair is an accessory of beauty. A week ago, I posted an unhappy review on this place because of a new stylist who ought to have done better. Nathalie responded to my review immediately, called me, apologized and offered to rectify the situation. What mattered to me most was that she listened to my complaint was worked hard to fix the situation. Nowadays, this kind of service is rare. Only the best businesses in Victoria offer this kind of commitment to excellence in practice, beyond pretty websites. The Natural Hair Salon is one of them. *Sorry for the long review but it's worth the read* For many years I've had been wanting to do a bit of drastic colour change and the only reason I actually went ahead and did it was because of The Natural Salon's reputation for skill and talent. I had a very dark brown almost black box dye hair & natural root and I wanted to be a golden copper. I booked in for a colour correction consultation with Grace and we went over my existing colour and hair goals. I knew it may take multiple visits to achieve the colour I wanted but Grace assured me that keeping my hair healthy & intact was top priority. We did a test strand to see how my hair would hold up through the process and thankfully it lightened perfectly, better than expected. I booked in to finally get the hair of my dreams and while it was a very long process, going far beyond the anticipated timeslot as my hair is fine but boy do I have a lot of it. Grace worked her magic and lightened my hair considerably with very minimal damage or breakage. Part way through the colour lifting process she had a couple ideas which she ran by me to tweak my original concept. She wanted to mix 2 shades of gold/ copper onto the length and add a brighter "money piece" around my face to show more depth and dimension, these suggestions ended up being the perfect addition. I was thinking it would take 3 or 4 visits to achieve the drastically lighter colour I wanted but somehow she managed it in 1 longer session with a future visit in the coming months to do a touch up balayage & toner to bring in more of the copper I want. Grace gave a few recommendations of at home products & treatments the salon has to keep the colour tone where I want and she sent me home with some samples of shampoo & conditioner designed to keep my hair soft and healthy. Overpriced, soooo overpriced. This type of salons charging 400+ for a bloody haircut plus highlights is outrageous. Not only do they charge an arm and a leg, they do it in a way forcing you to keep coming back and keep forking money out to what can only be described as a female tax. Keep your money!!! Word of mouth is still a thing in 2021. Stop gouging our mothers and sisters...

Dreamwork with Toko-pa

While the staff are all lovely, the bottom line is that I came in for light blonde highlights and came out with dark brown hair. I tried coming back for a colour correction, which succeeded in (at least) making my roots match the rest (which was two blocks of colour before that). But having paid $300 for this hair disaster, I would have expected the owners would have reached out to me to offer a refund.

I can't say enough good things about this salon. The experience of getting my hair coloured and styled with Heidi was so positive. Heidi is such a pro -- she is very approachable and knowledgable and, she took extra care with Covid protocols. I felt both safe and comfortable going to the salon during these extraordinary times. The environment is relaxed and upbeat -- I felt as though I had been on a holiday! The visit lifted the spirits and my hair looks and feels amazing. I appreciated the recommendations for products to help my hair be as healthy as possible. I am relatively new to Victoria and had struggled to find a salon that delivered great results but had options that fit my budget. Natalie was able to match me with a stylist that did both. Emylia was so sweet and easy to talk to. She took the time to ask questions and clarify/explain things as she went to make sure my hair turned out exactly like i wanted. Before the service she went through everything about pricing and how much any additional things could/may cost so that I understood exactly what the price was based on. I cant even count the number of times ive blindly paid a mystery number at the end of an appt elsewhere with no clue what exactly I was laying for. I really appreciated that kind of explanation up front. The salon itself is very warm and welcoming and you could tell the staff all felt supported and happy to work there. I am a very low maintenance hair person and don't typically dye or cut my hair, so when I do it feels like a big deal and The Natural fully delivered for me on this annual hairstyle adventure. Genni was my stylist and I got the "Express Balyage". The colour she chose was perfect, the placement of the foils maximized the impacts so the change was noticeable despite having so few foils, and the cut she gave me was the perfect refesher. Overall, I was extremely happy I left feeling confident, refreshed, and very Topanga. 10/10 experience and will be recommending Genni to anyone who will listen. One thing outside the actual hair experience that I really appreciated was being shown a cost breakdown prior to starting anything. I have never been to a salon that does that and I think it is a really thoughtful practice for those on a budget.

She did a curly style for me after hair cut. I liked it when I left the salon. Unfortunately, i cannot make the same hair she made it for me. It just feels like I haven’t get haircut even though some parts got shorter for sure. Being curly felt like nicer and it was shorter but now it feels like i need a hair cut again after speding $100. So my suggestion is, if you have wavy hair like mine, you may not want to get dry hair cut. Deva cut should only be for curly people but it’s nice salon full of talented stylists :)

The staff are all very friendly, encouraging and accommodating. I had the most amazing stylist - Jag Moussa. He really listened to what I wanted and then came up with a brilliant plan. He used my natural hair color, added toners and cool colours to cerate a multi dimensional masterpiece. He was professional and extremely efficient putting in the foils. Taking out the foils he was so careful ensuring that none of the colors seeped out to the next. That is the kind of care and knowledge that really makes for an exceptional experience. My cut feels amazing. Easily the best cut I have ever had - frames my face perfect, looks and feels great. I can't stop petting myself!! All around outstanding experience . My stylist Jess Munro was exceptional! I had called to let her know that I was running late and she was gracious and told me not to stress out, as she still had some paperwork to look after. I arrived 15 minutes later than I'd booked my appointment time and was welcomed in by the owner and his pup. Great way to be welcomed to a business as it helps to reduce the stresses of the day, and since it's the holiday season and everything is go-go-go I'd been out since early that morning. It was a relief to have such a nice welcome. Jess and I discussed the style change I was looking for, and she looked over my photos - both previous cuts I'd had and the examples as possible choices. She had great insight and made some really good suggestions about the cut and how to achieve what I was looking for in the final 'look'. Since it is a rather stressful time of year, I am no exception to that rule and I've personally been going through some issues with my 23 yr old daughter. As a result, I expressed much of my worry, concern, and sense of bafflement verbally with her. Even though I hadn't before met her, and there I was asking a virtual stranger for her feedback and thoughts she listened with extreme care and attention and then gave me some excellent feedback. She also gave me the name of a counsellor that might help my daughter to work through her issues in a safe place. Her empathy and compassion are AMAZING!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that she was not only patient with me BUT so gracious as well! It takes a special person to have that kind of commitment to their clients - even new ones!! Her cutting and styling skills are the very best I've ever experienced. My cut will take me a little bit to get used to, but it suits me, and the tweaks that she suggested fit into the overall look exceptionally well. It looked so polished and sleek when she was done my only concern is that I may not be able to get it to look that good again outside of the salon! I would have given a 9-star rating if not for the price. Frankly, that was a total shocker! It is the most expensive cut I've ever had in my life, and at 51 yrs I've had a few cuts over the years. I only had shoulder-length, very fine hair to start with, and now it is chin length, so there was about 2-3" cut off. I paid $70.25 plus a 15% tip so it came to just over $80 for the cut plus tip. Previously, the most I'd ever paid was $52.00 for a cut and that was at a salon in Ladysmith. Before that, I'd only ever paid between $25-$35 for a cut, so I'd gone to a 50% jump at the Ladysmith salon, and then this was another jump. Having said that, it's still the BEST CUT I'VE EVER HAD - so one pays for experience and talent. Plus, this IS the 'big city' so perhaps it's in line with other salons in Victoria, I don't know because I didn't shop around, nor did I think to request an approximate cost because I booked online and it varies per individual stylist. I'd lived in Victoria from 1988-2010 then moved up-Island, then just moved back to Victoria at the end of June 2019. The hairdresser I used to go to when I lived in Victoria until 2010 had a salon in her house, hence the $35 fee, MUCH less overhead! I'll definitely go back and see Jess again, I'll just have to plan for the increased cost. I promise that I won't talk so much about problems with kids, a lighter topic would likely be appreciated since I'm aware Jess has a very busy schedule and has long days herself. I don't usually talk so freely about such personal matters with people I've just met, but I think there was something about her and her manner that allowed me to trust her and share my concerns with her. Her feedback was well received and something I needed to hear, so I THANK her very much for the 'Hairapy' and cutting session!

I went in with luscious long curls. I needed just a bit of a shape to what I had. I didn't want a DevaCut (first, because I know my hair, second, because I didn't want to pay 30$ more for just a trim), but I wasn't really given the choice. I figured, okay, they know what they are doing. My hair has not looked so horrible in decades. This cut has killed all my curls, it's pouffy and looks like I got a Covid haircut. It's not framing my face. It literally looks like a mop. I told the stylist that I am a wash and go girl. $100 later, I'm still a pony tail girl because that's the only way I can stand it. I'm giving it a 3 stars because everyone was nice. However, I am never let them touch my hair again.

As someone with thick, curly hair I have often felt the need to apologize to my stylist for the challenge of cutting and styling. Not once today did I feel that way. Debbie's years of experience gives her an eye for what will suit your skin tone - she listened carefully to what I wanted but steered me clear of the trendier silver/ashy blonde looks. Instead, she crafted the perfect golden/honey tone that came out bright and beachy but still soft and natural and suited me so much better! She also gave me a cut that frames my face so well and will work perfectly to grow out my hair from a short bob. I would give 10 stars if I could. I came in the other day as a "fixer upper" from another salon (I had tiger stripes, a unwanted thick money piece, and oddly placed choppy layers), and was totally embraced by The Natural! My experience started by finding them online and being impressed by their content, calling them and getting an appointment straight away after speaking with the friendly and personable receptionist! The entire team was super professional and all had great energy, and the atmosphere of the studio was absolutely beautiful as well as so clean and comfortable. My colour stylist was Grace, and her work on my hair was completely exquisite. She took my hair, which originally had several issues from a different salon, and really took her time to actually listen to exactly what I wanted- something that is hard to find! Then she completely transformed my look into the most beautiful, expertly done, precise, drool-worthy medium sandy blonde balayage on my brunette hair, with perfectly baby lights around the crown! It was so well blended and definitely looks super natural, and the tone that she chose compliments my eyes and skin tone to a tee! Not only was her colour technique incredible, she is also a very sweet person, fun to chat with, and I genuinely enjoyed hanging out with her during my appointment. After my colour was done, they made room for me in the schedule to get an absolutely gorgeous cut done by the shop's owner, Phillip, who is a master hairstylist and definitely proved it with the beautiful cut he gave me! I had a cut from another salon that had oddly placed layers. Phillip turned the shape of my hair into a beautifully carved architecture, exactly the length and shape that I wanted. He was also such a warm person and a joy to be around! I felt super spoiled every moment that I was in the shop, and left feeling like an golden autumn goddess. Everyone in the salon was so nice, and all came to take a look at my hair. This is DEFINITELY the place to be, and I will be making it my regular salon from now on. I was so impressed with everything and left feeling like "me" again, confidence fully restored and wearing my best look yet :) THANK YOU!

I don't trust my curls with just anyone, but a friend recommended the Natural Hair Salon so I gave it a chance, and THANK GOD I DID!! I went to Sarah and got a deva cut and a colour. I had been struggling with a lack of shape in my curls, but Sarah gave me a really great cut, and I feel like my curls have more volume now too. On to the colour... when I went to the salon, I knew I wanted a change in colour, and I had some ideas, but I wasn't 100% sure on what exactly I wanted. The owner was clearly a huge part of the team and he was working as hard as everyone else!! I called the natural and asked if they might possibly have some thing for me the same day and they did! This is because they have up to 18 stylists working at the same time! I love the new natural highlight look for my dark straight hair, and my hair feels just as soft as before, she did an amazing job! This is a salon that will take care of you and make sure you leave happy. I went in for a haircut but, while the cut itself was ok, it wasn't really working for me (I don't think this was anyone's fault-- I think there was just some miscommunication because it was hard to hear each other through our masks). The salon e-mailed me for feedback and when I explained my situation they were very kind and understanding and brought me in again quickly for a complimentary haircut with Phil. I ended up absolutely loving the second cut and leaving very happy. The best part of this experience was I got to see how they really do care about their clients. They also know their stuff well too since this has been one of my favourite haircuts! They've got excellent customer service and very friendly staff. I was originally booked for a Deva-Cut as I have natural curl but I hardly ever wear it curly so went to the salon with my usual blown out style. My hair is naturally black, and no one has been able to make my hair look good, as other stylists usually make it too blonde or red. Shaylyn did my hair perfectly though and I keep getting compliments. I also had a bit of box dye from before, but she was still able to do the nicest balayage on my hair despite that. Jessica was incredible!!! I was visiting Victoria for my honeymoon, and I needed help curling my hair for a celebration dinner. I have naturally curly hair and straight extensions so it was difficult for me to style my hair myself with the Victoria humidity, but Jessica was able to style my hair exactly as I had hoped. I did a balayage for my hair and they ruined my top. When I spoke to them about it, I was told that this is expected to happen at times and that is why they ask customers not to wear fancy tops. I was absolutely not expecting this from a professional, expensive, and experienced hair salon. Very upsetting and disappointing.

I visited the salon back in August and was excited to get my hair cut and touch up the color as I'm sure so many people were once the restrictions were lifted. I booked an appointment with Heidi because of the pictures that I saw on Instagram and her work with blondes. The salon is lovely and the owner Philip is passionate about his work, and teaching his stylists the best techniques. However, as they are aware, my hair cut was embarrassingly terrible. The technique Heidi used (feathering, I think, I do not recommend this) shattered my hair and I now have the frizziest hair, when I normally have very flat and smooth hair. In as much as hair does grow back, it is still devastating because we all know it takes a great deal of time. I cannot speak about the quality of cuts the other stylists provide, but I can simply say that this is the worst haircut I've ever received from a place that boasts such fantastic results. I fully support local and I'm not big on spreading bad feedback when it's just a little problem, but when it's something as long lasting as an embarrassing haircut something needs to be said.

Absolutely the best hair cut I've had since moving to Victoria 12 years ago. I was lucky a spot opened up quickly (same day I called) since Philip is booked until June. The deep conditioning has made my hair softer and the cut is exactly what I was looking for - easy to maintain but stylish and up to date. I have already received several compliments :). The salon is clean, bright and there is definitely a fabulous vibe you can feel in the staff and clientele. They obviously love what they do and it shows. I will definitely be back!

I was unable to get into the balayage model class but was offered an alternative option and could not have been happier - I have never had a salon be so accommodating, welcoming, and patient. A couple weeks ago I finally admitted to myself that I badly needed a haircut. At the last minute I decided to see if any appointments were available on my day off the next day. When I checked, Reegyan was available. I looked into his profile and was impressed by his previous experience. I saw that it was going to be his first day at the salon, so I decided to book in. When I showed up, I brought up the possibility of coloring my hair to freshen things up. Lucky for me, he had time available to transform my hair. I let him know what I was looking for in cut/style and colour and with the information I gave him, as well as a few check ins along the way, Reegyan did magic on my hair. He made my straight, fine hair full and effortless and the colour is beautiful. The next time I washed it, I left it to air dry and was blown away that it still had the same volume and bounce as when I left the salon. It’s like it was meant to be, and I feel lucky that I was able to be the first person in Reegyan’s chair at the Natural Hair Salon!

I had a very positive experience with Heidi cutting and styling my hair. Most websites for hair salons show photos of styles for long hair. So it is difficult to assess in advance how a stylist would do a short/medium hair cut/style. Although I had ideas of what I might like, the main reason one goes to a "stylist" is for advice. Heidi was great at assessing what I thought and bringing in her ideas resulting in a great cut and style. Will definitely revisit Heidi and this salon.

Reception was very friendly, made me feel welcome and important, even though the salon was busy. Lauren is such a lovely young lady. My first visit with her was to fix a previous cut from another salon, that I wasn’t happy with. I didn’t feel she was rushing through the appointment to get to her next client. Lauren actually listened to my concerns, offered her suggestions and I was left with a much improved cut and very happy. I saw her again for a perm, not wanting really curly hair but just waves and fullness. Turned out great. Very happy customer. My only regret was that I realized later that I had under tipped her. Good Morning, My first visit to your salon was yesterday, May 19th. I booked an appointment with Philip as I wanted an Experienced stylist after receiving a couple of flawed haircuts. I was greeted right on time for my appointment, everyone was so friendly and after about 5 minutes felt like I’ve known Philip for the last 20 years. It is so refreshing to have someone share part of their personal life instead of just talking hair and products. Philip gave me the best haircut I’ve had in 1.5 years and I will be back as a regular client, even though honestly it is a little out of my price range I don’t want to go anywhere else now. First haircut since January and trying to change my style. They were able to give me good cut for the interim since sit needs some more growing out. With social distancing still in place, things are slightly different but the cut is good, easy to care for and looking forward to the next cut. Stylist was helpful and able to see my ideas and offered her own. Appointment was for a later time but got a call saying that several people had cancelled and I got in much earlier. Is it customary to sit in silence for 3 hours out of a 5.5 hour appointment here? I understand that when blow dryers are going (and wearing masks) means that sometimes visiting isn't audible so there's no point, but I just felt like I was annoying my stylist by trying to ask questions to start a conversation during the other times (like during the 1.5 hours of foiling. I understand blending is important but that is an excessive amount of time to balayage blend, but when you're paid by the hour why wouldn't you take your painstaking time). Also I said I wear my hair naturally curly and don't blow dry it, only a today (a few days after my appointment) I found out there exists a dry curly hair cut I should have got, so I am disappointed a top tier hairstylist either did not know about this type of hair cut or just didn't do for me.

I have been going to this salon for a while and always had good experiences with one stylist. Unfortunately she was not available so I had to try someone new for a cut a few weeks ago. It is top three WORST haircut I’ve ever had in my entire life. The stylist seemed to do whatever she thought would look good and completely disregarded what I told her I wanted and the pictures I showed her to clarify what I was looking for. It will take up to six months for the awful cut to grow out enough to be able to go to another salon for a cut again.
