I’ve been a client for over 5 years and I can’t imagine going anywhere else to get my hair cut and styled. The staff are incredibly friendly and the stylists are always hard at work making their clients hair dreams come true. It’s a place you can look around and admire all the people who love what they do and obviously do it so well. Nicole is my go to favorite (she’s the one with the extra warm personality and fantastic smile) but I’ve honestly never seen someone walk out of there with anything less than the best. Give it a try, I promise you’ll love it.

My hairdresser was out of the country for a month and I needed my hair styled for a special occasion. My son goes to Ira Ludwick and recommended that I try it. I booked an appt. online the same day I needed my hair done. They were excellent. They even fit me in to get my eyebrows done. Very impressed. Since Mynd closed, I now have a new place to get my hair and waxing done at the same time!

I have no talent for even blow drying my hair or styling it in any way. After Ira cuts my hair, I totally appreciate what “a great haircut” is! I don’t have to do anything to it and it always looks terrific, even after I wake up in the morning. When I wash my hair, I just run my fingers through it and I’m done! What’s more, I always feel totally pampered by every person who works there. Needless to say, I HIGHLY recommend Ira Ludwick Salon!

First time at the salon, so I asked to see a senior stylist for a haircut. I had an appointment with Conway, and it is the WORST hair cut of my life; I asked for a woman’s haircut with long loose layers and was instead given a hair cut that resembles a mullet that is short in the front and long in the back. The top layer is way too heavy, and my hair is now clearly two different lengths like a valence curtain. Ira, the salon owner offered to try and fix it and didn’t charge for the haircut. It is still not pretty, but I appreciated his professionalism and wish my appointment was with him in the first place. Moral of the story: Be careful who you book with.

Jen P is amazing!! She made sure that we were on the same page and she went above and beyond my expectations. She carefully applies the color and gives an amazing shampoo. I could have her wash my hair all day! I'm in LOVE with my new hair and have been getting so many compliments. The front desk was also very friendly when I came in.

I have been here three times. Each time is even more awesome than the last. I see Karen for hair, but while sitting in the chair I have observed so many very talented hair designers and colorists. The atmosphere is nice. All the staff are really amazing. I have been to their esthetician as well. She is phenomenal and I highly recommend her. Some have mentioned prices being a concern. You get your money's worth here. It is worth the cost for superior product and service. It's not like other places that just upcharge for location or because they are a "insert X brand" studio. Ira Ludwick is worth your time and wallet for the fabulous service and results.

Tia did an amazing job. I have thick curly hair and she was able to straighten but give it movement and wave. The salon was clean and the staff was really friendly. I liked the hair products and the style. I definitely recommend. And this photo is from Day 2!!

I went to see Jenn Palmeter yesterday for a color correction. I moved up here from South Carolina 2 months ago. The stylist that I saw down there always did a great job with my hair. When I got up here I had to find someone new. The girl that I went to really messed up my blonde. There were horrible streaks, breakage, and she turned it a brassy orange color. I went to see Jenn and she totally fixed everything that the last girl messed up with my hair. It is the perfect shade of blonde. It’s strong, healthy and super SOFT now!! The conversation was great and I felt totally taken care of. I walked out of the salon with an amazing color, cut, and blowout feeling super confident!! I would highly recommend going to see Jenn!!

I cannot express how happy I am with the corrective color and cut Jen at Ira Ludwick Salon gave me. She was attentive, professional, and did an OUTSTANDING job giving me the right shade of blonde I wanted! I tried 2 other high end salons in the area and was disappointed in the brassy/orange blonde I was given. She fixed the ugly blonde I had as well as the choppy and uneven cut to make it "shake your head and your hair falls back into place" quality. GO HERE!

Worth every penny! I went to Ira for a major refresh (my blonde was yellow and my ends were crispy). I walked out feeling like a new woman! The staff is kind and attentive and, they do not rush you through your service, which is very abnormal for this area. Ira is one of a kind and reeks of talent and class. I can’t wait to return!

i walked out with an awful blowout, mediocre cut, and decent color. i found every part of the process to be less than expected or even absolutely awful, and even personally/racially offensive. i had expected more from this establishment. i got essentially what i asked for, a shorter haircut and a different color, but at a quality that was below any other I've ever gotten, including a $26 cut from a NYC chinatown salon. in the end, not worth the money or time. the setup with free pastries and pseudo-smiling staff gave the impression of a pampered experience but it was quite the opposite. when i walked in, the receptionist says hello, and then just kind of stared at me. i had expected perhaps, a "how are you" or at least "what's your name/appointment" but instead it was just awkward. i gave my info and was led to my stylist. she gave a nice handshake/greeting, sat me down, asked me about my hair and what i wanted, etc. i told her i wanted perhaps six inches off (i had almost waist-length hair then), and i had also the remnants of a previous color, so she suggested leaving enough of that so my new color would transition to it and leave a nice lighter colored shade at the bottom, giving it an ombre effect. to cut to the end, i got almost a foot cut off and no ombre effect. as for the color itself, it ended up being fine (how can you get a nice brown color wrong?) but i had to kind of just let her control that, since she didn't show me any hair color swatches. the worst part is the actual cut and color process. to have a faster color, she put a rotating heat lamp over my head and left it to soak in. after about 5 minutes, i realized she had put way too much color gloop, which was leaking down the sides of my face and forehead. there was absolutely no staff around so i had to wipe it off with my fingers for about 5-10 min until someone else's stylist came around. she gave me a paper towel, letting me continue to clean it up myself, but didn't think to summon my stylist herself, who finally came around 15 min later. she apologized but it doesn't really matter, if she couldn't be attentive enough to at least drop in once during a 20-min period and her customer has already melted into the gloop. throughout the process, she asked a few questions but I could tell she was really dragging herself into talking. i don't care if there's a conversation, actually I prefer to just read on my kindle, but it was starting to feel very weird. i'm an introvert, and actually had to ask her about herself to make her open up a little and make the weirdness go away. as a customer, i don't expect to have to make my own experience a comfortable one. transitioning from the color to cutting, i laid back at the sink to get my hair washed. the washer was not gentle at all and it was not a relaxing experience. maybe i'm too used to asian salons which really take care of you, but one thing definitely wasn't supposed to happen - my stylist came up and somehow the small talk led to her asking me, "so what kind of asian are you?" this isn't crazy offensive, but definitely gave me pause.. it would be very nice to NOT have my ethnicity categorically commented upon while trying to just get a damn hair cut. i later found out she was half asian, which may account for her curiosity, but it doesn't really give an excuse. the haircut itself was a simple trim with layers. it took longer than any other trim/layering i've had, and the blowout after was just a mediocre high school prom look that I could've done at home. without the blowout, later, the cut looked shoddy/uneven and not well layered at all. i had to start straightening my hair again to make it look acceptable.

I love Ira Ludwick. All the staff makes you feel welcome. Most salons in Bethesda area can be on the snotty side but not Ira Lidwick. Jen is the best hair goddess I have ever been to. Jen has been doing my hair for 8 years now she is fantastic.

I had been going to a different salon for many years. I had my hair dyed and went to Florida as I usually do. When I returned, I went into the shower and lost a good portion of my hair , thinned out, and had a severe burning on my scalp. It was very painful and lasted over 3 and half months. In the meantime, my roots were about 2 inches of white. My friend recommended to go see Ira because of his expertise and patience. I’m so glad I did! He spent two times consulting with me prior to my appointment. Ira was compassionate, caring, and worked with me hearing what I wanted and needed as well as making excellent suggestions. I felt like he heard my concerns and gave me the time I needed to feel comfortable. I highly recommend Ira and will continue going there! Many thanks Ira for a wonderful haircut and color.

Been going to Ira for more than a decade. Followed him here from his last place. Love my haircut - I ALWAYS look great from cut til next cut. Must say that my hair gets more compliments than anything else about me. Rave reviews from all sorts of folks in NYC, Antarctica, and right here is Bethesda. What I really like about Ira is that he always asks me - how is my hair doing? What would I like? He adjusts to my requests and cuts to make me look great! Yes - he is pricey but believe me that he's worth it.

While a bit pricey, Ira will give you a cut that will look great - even while growing out. I had tried other salons and people that were rated high but not one of them is as good as Ira. He will work with you and your hair texture and while I might want a certain haircut, he will suggest or explain what will or won't work with the haircut. While he will do what you ask/insist on, I have found that giving him some basics ( I'd like it to stay long or just go for it) and to let him go works best. I have been going to Ira for 17 years and can not imagine anyone else touching my hair. He's worth every penny!

Terrance did a phenomal job at listening to my requests, made sure I wasn't compromising on what I really needed based on my actual lifestyle and personal maintenance trends. I cannot stop raving about his service. My hair is stunning and I loved it as soon as he was done and didn't have to go through the 2 week period of hating it until the color or cut solidified the way I wanted to be in the first place.
