I went to Hair Art for over a decade for trims but if you need anything more than that, GO ELSEWHERE!! For trims, Hair Art is good because they’re quick, affordable, and do a good job. I’m sure most females can relate—we need hair stylists that aren’t scissor-happy and overcut the length. Recently, however, I went in for a balayage because they insisted they knew how to do it (I should’ve known better) but it was clear they were winging it as they were whispering to each other throughout the process yet failing to inform me as to what they were doing. Before we even began, I told them my hair doesn’t take to colour very well and they said it’d be fine. After dying my hair the first time, they washed it out and realized my hair didn’t take, so they dyed it again (their mistake) but charged me. So the price went from $75 to double, which I was never told about until the moment I was paying. They should’ve known better as I warned them already, and I would’ve liked the option to approve or decline this. I was happy enough with it so I paid without much of an argument, but later realized the colour was something I could’ve achieved out of a box instead of paying over $150. When my concerns were brought up the next day, they blamed the fact that I didn’t understand their Korean well enough (I’m a second generation Korean), which is a) a blatant lie as they NEVER told me they’d be charging me twice and b) quite offensive to use that as an excuse. Their solution was for me to come in again and they’d redye it. But why would I return to a salon that clearly doesn’t know how to dye my hair as requested, damage my hair unnecessarily, and waste more of my time? I should have seen this coming because during one of my visits, I saw them fighting with a client who wanted a balayage as well but I thought to take a chance on them anyway. From that day, they lost a long time client in me and have lost many referrals.
