For a small haircutting studio in a strip mall, this place really packs a punch. From my initial email requesting an appointment to payment was quite smooth and a new experience for me. I have never been asked before arriving at an appointment what I wanted from a haircut (a picture for the stylist) and a picture of what my hair looked like prior to arrival. They take the safety of themselves and their clients very thoroughly; their customer service standards also earned them a lot of brownie points. I was asked to fill out an email questionaire for covid. Upon arrival I was given a fresh mask, offered hand sanitizer and the front desk lady offering to take my jacket for me (first salon I've been to where this has happened) then she tried to use a digital thermometer? To take my temp with no contact (I don't know what the actual name of the device is) it didn't work because I was quite cold showing up. They offered to start the service anyways while I warmed up and asked me to wash my hands again while I waited to get temperature checked. My stylist Kerry started me off with a shampoo and I believe conditioner wash. I felt as though I was in an ASMR type setting (and video, minus camera) she took her time scrubbing my head, unlike other establishments I've been to -almost put me to sleep. When I finally got to the chair, she had seen the picture I sent but also asked me again what I wanted. I told her and she went to work. She took almost an hour to cut my hair instead of rushing it ( I have had the same haircut take 15-20 minutes in the past) and by taking her time she got to all areas. I usually need to request to have my eyebrows trimmed but she saw and asked first. At the end she offered to wash my hair again (also first time that's been offered to me,) I declined, which I regret now! The atmosphere felt very professional and like everyone wanted to be there. I believe the store owner was also there and thanked me for coming in. He mentioned something about the red spots/blemishes/acne on my head but I couldn't quite hear him but I believe he was trying to give me advice on how to get rid of them (other salons the head acne is usually nicked and I bleed out a little, Kerry did not do this.) I have not seen this type of leadership in a salon or high moral for that matter in a long time. I have a family member that used to be a hair dresser and in my youth spent at these places I don't ever remember the atmosphere being overly pleasant or supervisors being FOH. All the little efforts brought forward by the entire staff made an outstanding first impression for me. The cost of the haircut was a little on the pricier side but the team, and my stylist Kerry, certainly earned it on top of a well deserved tip. I will definitely be going back here.

I have fairly long hair so most hairdressers rush the process but Phan took her time to make sure I had a quality cut and was happy with the end result. The service, staff and atmosphere at this salon is great! Even though I'm not from Calgary, I'll definitely come back to this salon next time I'm in town :)

Update from my review after the first lock-down was lifted: recently went again after the second lock-down was lifted (of course I'd been in-between as well!) but again: professional hair care, full covid protocols (they still give you a new mask, open doors, take your temp, sanitize hands, etc) and still a great cut, reasonable price, friendly people, wasn't crowded, and made me feel super comfortable. If every business cared this much we'd be back to hugging grandparents in no time! Original review from mid-2020: Finally had my first post-lock down hair cut last week at Artistic Salon, and Kevin was great -- he barely admonished me for having taken my beard trimmer to tame my hair. Everything was very professional and clean: didn't have to open the door, was let in for my appointment; sanitized my hands, and given a mask; then washed them in the bathroom. After that it was more or less a "normal" haircut, except we both had masks and no one was in the chair next to me. Didn't take any longer than usual, the hair wash/rinse was optional, hair looks great, and they even opened the door for me as I left. I barely touched a thing. I'll be back before I attempt the trimmers on myself again!

I've been coming here for a couple of years and wanted to give them a particularly positive review based on their new pandemic era procedures. Customers wait outside and call to be let in. They supply single use masks for every customer, escort you to a place where you can wash your hands, then seat you to discuss what you'd like done. They stagger appointment times and take turns at the washing station so you're never very close to other staff or customers. It was a very safe and clean experience over and above the already wonderful, friendly service I've come to expect here. Highly recommend, even for people feeling nervous about close contact with strangers these days.

Love going to Artistic Salon whenever I need something done with my hair even though they are across the city and a little bit of a trek but for their exceptional service I will make the drive. All the staff at the salon is friendly, welcoming and very professional. I see Lily for my hair needs and she’s just incredible; she’s super talented and an incredible person. I trust her for my hair care and style. When I tell what I want done she provide me with valuable information based on my hair type and color so I can make an informed decided based on my lifestyle and not just do whatever I ask even if she knows it won’t suit me. Also, I have dark hair so no matter what color I want to dye my hair she will make sure I don’t walk out of there with orange hair no matter how long it takes.

My daughter has an afro for daayyysss...and finding a black hairdresser in Calgary (especially Sw) is Harrdd. So when I noticed this cute, local Salon, my daughter and I decided to give them a try. I'll be honest...I was nervous. Let me tell you, when I say Mercedes and Lilly slayed her hair...I mean it. We are now loyal and happy clients. Saw Mercedes in June for a balayage. She was knowledgeable and professional although the results were more dramatic than I expected and I was clearly unsatisfied. I recieved a call that same evening from Lily who was eager to make a satisfied client out of me. They insisted I come back so Mercedes could make it right. She was pleasant, kind and understanding and made what could have been an uncomfortable situation enjoyable. She added lowlights and I left feeling much better. After a month with the new style, I still hadn't adjusted to the change and returned again. She worked MAGIC and I am in love with my hair! It is exactly what I imagined. She was right to go as light as she did initially because it was far easier to go darker than it would have been to try and lighten it. She took her time and was thorough with impeccable attention to detail. Before my first visit in June I hadn't sat in a salon for 10 years because I couldn't find a stylist I trusted. My hair just sat in the same cut and natural colour I felt indifferent towards. Today I am thrilled to have found my salon, stylist and look! Definite high recommendation from me!

Maybe they do a good job for ladies but men’s haircut is very poor. ***edited - They called me and asked me if I would like to come again and if they can fix their mistake they did first time, I went in there and this time it was done very good. I highly recommend it no matter what you're looking for! Edit: I'm updating my review because I honestly cannot rave about this place enough! No matter what stylist works on my hair the outcome is incredible. Every stylist is really passionate about their craft and it shows, I walk out looking like a million bucks. During covid they've been extremely diligent with protocols to keep everyone safe which is a huge relief during these uncertain times. The service is incredible, after paying and offering me sanitizer with lotion, Kevin even went out of his way to open the door for me. I originally posted a bad review but the owner called me and he offered to get my hair fixed, so I went in and the girl that did my hair did such a good job. I didn't get my hair how I wanted it but she definitely did a great job at fixing it to be closer to what I wanted. She's pretty good, I'm sure If she would've done my hair at first I probably would have been happy with the results. Other than that ... I like getting my hair cut here, they're friendly and they do a good job.

I have never had such a great experience at a salon before . I got my hair coloured and was not happy with the end result . I came back a few days later ,half an hour to closing time and they took me in and did a full color correction on me at no extra cost . This was significant to me as I have a newborn baby and would not have anyone to watch him til the evening , and will be going on a trip on a few days so time was very limited. Lil and Kevin ended up staying until 1:30 in the morning , and even tucked in my mom after she fell asleep laying down at the sink . They went above and beyond to ensure that I was happy, and the end result of my hair is gorgeous! I highly recommend this salon to anyone. I don’t know of any other salon that would have stayed so late to fix my hair . Thank you guys !!!

I feel that I got majorly ripped off by this business. (This is my very first negative review so I apologize for the length.) I booked for my appointment asking for a haircut, which I assumed would be categorized as the "Shampoo, Cut and Style" for $48+ on their website. When I arrived, I was asked if I wanted my hair shampooed, to which I accepted. My hair was trimmed really quickly. I have long, but thin hair so it doesn't take long, but even so, this was the quickest haircut of my life, the entire appointment lasted about 20-30 minutes at most. I was not offered to have my hair styled at the end of the appointment. Frankly, the worth of the services I was provided (shampoo and simple trim, all in 20-30 minutes, no style) was probably around $25-$30 at MOST. I was charged about $65 before tip and such. No explanation for the extra charges. I am a college student who would have much better spent that money on groceries. Sure, if I were charged around $48, I wouldn't complain (even if I didn't get one of the services that charge entailed), but I was charged much more than that. I understand that prices can go up if it takes the stylist longer to do someone's hair (which it didn't--the opposite, in fact), the client requests a more elaborate cut (which I didn't--I actually got less than the listed services), or if it's a more experienced stylist (which I doubt). I was very clearly ripped off ($65 compared to $30), and then afterwards I get an email saying "It is very important to us that you take the time to share your positive experience by reviewing us on Google". This comes off as very condescending. It feels like this business thought that I wouldn't know any better so they took advantage of me, waaaaayyyyyy overcharging, and then asked me to do them a favor by boosting their ratings like some compliant idiot.

This has got to be one of the best places I have ever been to get my hair cut. This is not some 15min in and out hair cut kinda place, where you have to go home and shower afterwards. The stylists are so through between the washing, scalpe massage, hair cut, re wash and dry this level of service is top notch. Have always left feeling clean and loose hair free. The time spent is always a treat and the staff is amazing, they went above and beyond to accommodate my limited schedual, this is now my only go to place for a mens cut. I had been to six or seven other salons over the last year or two trying desperately to find someone who would at least come close to the photos of myself wearing a very basic haircut that was done by a previous hairdresser who had moved away to another city. Everyone except for “this salon” took the shortcut route. They ALL avoided doing what I had asked and still took my money. Because I am a woman, they took more money than what they should have and I ended up frustrated for a long long time with bad haircuts that grew out terribly. A sure indicator of a bad cut is how it grows out. But finally , thank goodness, I came across this salon which is ironically very close to my own neighbourhood and read their excellent “yelp” reviews and thought “I have to try them.” They even spent a great deal of time with me over the phone after they had kindly asked me to email them the photos of my desired haircut that I desired and then they booked an appointment for me between myself and a hairdresser with 20 years of experience. (Phan????). She gave me 3 1/2 hours of her undivided time❗️The haircut and the colour is fantastic❗️Why did I not find these wonderful people at the very beginning.❓Isn’t it ironic that the best is often the closest to home. I will be a regular customer. Plus the value is considerably better than what everyone else is charging. I found out that this professional business has been operating for over 35 years. I’m not surprised❗️????. Their professionalism amazed me on all levels ...not just the finished product ...which was fantastic❗️

I was booked in with Mercedes and she was great! We ended up having to do two toners on my hair since it was initially too light for my liking but she was so patient and understanding with everything. After regular disappointments at my previous salon, I was looking for a better experience that was hopefully closer to home. In my search, I discovered Artistic Salon's web site and was immediately intrigued when there were real photos of real client hair styles attributed to each of their stylists. I called to make an appointment and had a delightful conversation with Mercedes who was very helpful and enthusiastic about my decision to come to their salon. I wanted to make a significant change to my hair, transforming from long hair to a shorter "bob" style. My appointment was with Kerry as Mercedes called her the "Queen of the Bobs". When I arrived, Kerry did a full 30 minute consultation on my desire and she knew exactly what I wanted and how to accomplish it. They are very transparent with their pricing and at no time did I feel rushed. I am extremely pleased with the complete transformation of my new hairstyle and colour. Kerry was great. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Kevin, and I expressed my happiness and gratitude. He told me that they strive for "excellent customer service, great results, at a fair price". Mission accomplished. I highly recommend them and will definitely return.
