I prefer this place to the main Chura salon on Keefer. Staff don’t exaggerate, and are calm and sincere. My hairstylist Hiroko is the best. Everytime I go for a perm or cut or colour, I get great compliments from friends. …
Been going here for over 8 years and the stylists here are talented. They're not the cheapest but also not the most expensive. Any of the stylists are great but I would recommend seeing Yuki
Talented Japanese stylists, great customer service and a convenient location. One of the best salons downtown.
My favourite hair salon in the city! Very attentive and all the stylists are so nice. You can't go wrong!
Update: Still coming here after years, and still love it so much. Amazing, talented professionals.
Been going there for over a year now. I've had my hair cut, dye and perm there. No complaint. Love Hiroko!
Sooooo much love my hair ❤️❤️ Highly recommend for perm ???????? Relaxing and satisfying experience with Chura Primo ????
Love my stylist Hiroko. She knew how to deal with my hair, and had also done great job for my mom’s. You can literally point to the style on the fashion magazine and she will get you the exact same one for you, let alone she designs the perfect fit for you if you ask her to get whatever suits you. She’s the kinda stylist who goes above and beyond to provide the best services for her customers.
You can never go wrong here. My sister and I have been going to get our hair cuts and treatments from Yuki for almost 10 years now. Highly recommend!
I went to Primo for the first time since I had a few friends provide glowing recommendations for their experiences at the salon. To be honest, I felt mine was left with mixed feelings when I got my hair cut. I had Hiroko as my hairstylist, who was very lovely, but the haircut was not what I wanted. She cut my hair much shorter than the requested style and didn't go by the photo I showed her. I was shocked but I didn't speak up about my disappointment. All I could say to her was it was a lot shorter than I expected and that I guess I have to get used to it. Her reason was that she thought my cut was a more suitable length but I had to grin and bear it as I didn't want to be seen as 'difficult' and hair grows back (although I'll be waiting longer). Would I go back? It's honestly not a bad haircut but again, it wasn't what I wanted. It depends as I went for the experience. My previous hairstylist from my go-to Japanese hair salon had moved back to Osaka, but I think I will be going back to my previous salon next time, for comparison's sake.
I’ve been here regularly for haircuts many years. Their stylists are very professional and friendly. The location is great for people taking transit. Pricing is fair and service is great as well! Highly recommend :)
You don't have to be Japanese to have a great experience here! With my local stylist on Mat. leave, I returned to the salon trusting they would know how best to handle my thick, naturally straight locks. I was able to get an appointment during their 7th Anniversary promotion for a cut & color. The stylist made obvious efforts to understand my prefernces and ensure the color results met my expectations - he exceeded them! I really appreciated the transparency with pricing at the beginning of the appointment so there are no surprises when it comes to payment at the end.
Maki is a magician. She makes a simple haircut so stylish.
Maki went through 5 combs with me and was such an expert! My quarantine hair was so long and shapeless. I got a layered bob with side bangs to frame my face. She’s light-fingered and very precise. Checked the evenness to my hair several …
The only place I'll get my haircut! Always very professional, courteous, and so talented! It's the first place that has ever told me a pixie cut was possible with my hair type. All my best haircuts come from them! …
Nice shop great hair cut too.
I adore Yuki. He is the best stylist I have ever had and have been seeing him for many years. Amazing ambiance and friendly professionalism throughout the entire salon. I would recommend him to anyone looking for great hair and style.
Been going to Yuki for several years now. He's always professional and is attentive to detail. I'm always happy with my haircut. I highly recommend this hair salon and Yuki!
been there once for hair cut, loved it very much!
This is a hidden gem in Vancouver Downtown! Hiroko did my hair and she is extremely sweet and amazing at what she does! I would definitely be coming back. Hands down!
My hair was thick + frizzy before making an appointment at Chura. They took me right on time. The salon was very cute, minimalistic & clean. They followed all the Covid precautions. Maki was my stylist + she took very good care of me. I got my hair washed, permanently straightened + cut. First time. By far the best hair salon experience I’ve had. I wish Maki could wash my hair every week because it was so relaxing! She was soo gentle + caring. I felt like royalty. PLUS she did everything I really wanted - straight, thinned out (so thick and bushy before). She did a conditioning treatment that comes with it and it made my hair very soft. Getting my hair done is a huge treat for me + I felt in very good hands. I will definitely come back to Maki at Chura again! Thank you for your good service.
Loved my hair cut here!!!! They followed exactly as I requested from photo reference I showed as best as they could with my thin, fine hair.
Yuki and Shiori both give excellent haircuts!
I've just been there randomly to have a hair cut. Surprisingly the hairdresser was professional. She was very kind and friendly. I really like my hairstyles. I will definitely go back there again.
Hiro was my hair stylist and did an amazing job. I had it cut off by at least 4 inches, and also got it permed. Turned out super cute and better than. I thought. Highly recommend any of their hair stylist.
I come here every month now to get my hair cleaned up....great place! I let the stylist do his thing. I'm sure he knows more about my hair then me anyways. Always a great experience. A quiet little place.
Amazing haircuts, and love the head massage every time! Highly recommend
I've been coming here for over an year now, and I definitely appreciate how detail-oriented with their clients. I typically go somewhere else to get my hair coloured, but this place is great for haircuts and for toning your hair. Plus the service is exceptional. Call in advance, as it's difficult to get booked in last minute.
I would not recommend this salon for hair colouring. I desperately wanted to like this salon. Unfortunately, I was left with disappointment. I wanted to colour my hair to a fashion colour (mauve purple). Instead, i got yellow highlights on the top, and pink tips at the bottom. I called in and they asked me to come back to fix my hair colour. Unfortunately, the second time was worse. The hair was darkened to an extremely dark purple so much that my hair now looks black, with no highlights. The service is nice and friendly and I think they tried their best, but the results were disappointing and I feel like i wasted my money and damaged my hair for nothing.
I went here to cut my hair short (simple trim) and to dye my hair from black to brown. The hairdresser who did my hair was very nice and friendly. …
Chura did an amazing job of my hair!! My dyed hair had grown out really badly over the past 3 months of quarantine, and the ends were really damaged from previous treatments. I waited a long time (a month!!) for my 4-hour cut and colour …
Love every haircut I had at Chura primo. Also, where else can you go for bang trim at $5?
I had Hiroko cut my hair. She was efficient and quickly figured what I wanted.
Deep treatment as only Moisture for $30 && Shampoo for additional $18... really think about the price
Ok so I just wanted a c curl at the end and I showed pictures to the designer how I wanted it. He curled my entire hair and I was basically looking like a lion with hair going out every direction. It was completely different from what I requested and wanted. They were like if you don't like it you can come back in 2 week and will do something else for free, but why would I want to go back after my hair was messed up? So I came to another salon to straighten my hair and this is how he cut my hair. Right side was longer than left side and there were parts of my hair that were just chopped off like the picture. I'm really disappointed in how everything turned out even though I showed pictures and clearly told him what I wanted. I don't think I will go back.
Absolutely LOVE this place, and I’ve been going to my stylist (Yuki) for 10+ years now – and he NEVER disappointments. Only complaint (which has nothing to do with the salon itself), is that it is located in a slightly sketchy part of downtown Vancouver, on West Pender Street. It’s about ~10 min walk from Pacific Centre, and very easily accessible by skytrain as well (~10min walk from either Granville or Stadium Chinatown skytrain station). They do not accept walk-ins, so you must book an appointment over the phone (I usually book 1 month prior, as his schedule can fill up quite quickly). Very friendly and polite staff, with excellent service overall. They’re also very good with the timing of each appointment. I never wait more than 5-10 minutes for an appointment, and always leave on time too. COVID-19 precautions: There are plastic curtains between the hair washing stations. Just check in and wait outside until it’s your turn for the appointment. Hand sanitizer available upon entry, and there is a washroom. Keep your mask on, and all staff members also wear masks. Woman’s haircut usually takes 45min-1 hour and includes a wash, blow dry, and also minor styling (straight iron or curling iron at the end). This time, I bleached my hair (with toning) and also got a haircut which was included in the pricing. The goal was a natural ombre ashy brown that would grow out blending nicely (roots unbleached). There was a 5% off promo for following their Instagram (limited time only, and I’m not sure how long this promo will last). After tax, my total was $230 which is very very reasonable in my opinion, especially since a haircut is included. Total time spent in the salon was 4 hours. Process: Bleach (on dry, unwashed hair), wash off bleach, tone, wash off toner, dry, haircut, then style with curling iron. Yuki takes his time and foils small sections of hair, which ensures a very natural blend. The haircut style is Japanese-style, which is usually softer and “whispy” looking with layers. I have pretty thick hair, but the haircut makes it look light, bouncy and natural.
This salon is amazing! The hairdressers are all very kind and skilled. If you cant make an appointment with Yuki, the main hair stylist, then dont worry, the other hairdressers are good as well. They give great massages during washing and i always feel totally rejuvenated after coming here. The quality is great for the price. During Covid their prices went up a bit, but they are totally worth the money spent!
I had a hair cut and Japanese straightening done by Satoshi, and although my session was quite long due to my long length of hair and the nature of service provided, Satoshi was attentive to my needs, and because of time restraint I could not get the perm done so instead he curled my hair free of charge. I will definitely come back for more service in the future.
Chura primo has been my go to for years now and recently I moved out of downtown but of course had to make my way back to get a hair cut! I’m not loyal to any stylist as they’re all great (and they switch up staff sometimes) so i usually take the first available appointment. I believe my stylist last week was Maiko? mika? I can’t recall but she gave my head a much needed 4inch trim as well as curtain bangs (I know, who am I!!?) Happy with their service as always! Great price too.
I flew all the way from DC to get my hair cut here. They just know how to cut Asian hair properly and it's always cheap to get a wash, cut and dry. I think I paid around 30 dollars including tax and tip! I have been going to Chura for years!
Been going to this salon for several years now. They are a great salon and an incredible value. I've always had good experiences there. I highly recommend.
I think to keep using this place because It was very very GREAT:) My charge was Tango Yuki, he`s so nice and talented!! As expected, it was just as it was said. …
Great everyone was very nice and polite. Whenever I got this location I always ask for Maki whenever I want it coloured and cut, it's been 3 years since I've been going to Chura. I am so glad I found a place that knows how to cut my hair the way I like it.
Really friendly staff and I love how they take their time to do magic to my hair! I usually get it digital perm and mid length for my hair. Have tried different stylist and so far it's been good!
I got the stylist Satoshi. The cut he gave me was absolutely horrendous. I asked for a simple V cut off 1 inch of hair and subtle layers, the layers are VERY blunt and the right side was longer than the left. I had to fix it after I got home myself. All this for 45. Would not go there
Been with Chura since 2012, I wouldn't go anywhere else - Yuki knows how to work with Asian hair that is straight and full. I've had several different style changes - from perms to color, from shaved to bob to long - and he always gets it right.
There was a 20 min wait although I made an appointment. But service was good and the cut itself was not slow. I love my hairstyle after their work. Price is not expensive as a nice Japanese haircut place. Will come again.
It was ok. They did spend 45 minutes on my haircut (male) but 45+tax for a guys haircut seems overpriced considering the haircut is just eh.
I have been here for hair cut for years. Reliable and patient service with a reasonable price. They will not try to sell you something during the hair cut.good place overall
