James is amazing. My story: years back I made the cardinal mistake of attempting to save money and tried to get my hair done on the cheap. The result was an absolute nightmare, an image of a skunk comes to mind--no exaggeration. I tried to live in it for a day but truly just sobbed and couldn't even leave the house. My friend felt so bad for me, he offered to help me pay to find someone else to fix it. It was that bad. I called several salons but something made me decide to go with zazou. That day, I met James, and I have been devoted ever since. The result--absolutely beautiful colour correction. It was dimensional, stunning and a cross between mink fur and beautiful mushroom blonde. I now live in the U.S. and it's been years later and I still book an appointment with him everytime I come home. I make a point of it. I go out of my way for it. James continues to grow as a stylist. He just gets better and better. He is truly amazing with colour and colour correction. What's more, he's incredibly easy to communicate with (not easy to come by, especially as stylists get more experienced). He's humble, professional and extremely talented. I honestly can't wait to come back to Vancouver just to get another appointment!

Unfortunately I had to edit this review. I had a haircut with Jami and she was great. Then I decided to book my highlights with her. So I sent an email to the salon and requested an appointment for Monday at 4pm. They told me that Jami could do the highlights, but toner and express dry would be with a junior stylist. I said that I wanted the toner to be done by Jami as well. They told me that she could do 3:30 highlights and toner, but express dry with someone else. I said Ok. On Friday I received a confirmation of my appointment for highlights with Jami and toner with Deva. I answered saying that it wasn’t what I’ve booked, but they kept saying that she doesn’t have time and I could go 3pm if I wanted. So why they booked for 3:30 and assured me that she would do both at the first time, and then changed without even letting me know? I work until 4pm, I really wouldn’t be able to do it. I have all the emails proving that Meg confirmed that Jami would do both services, but they didn’t care. Now I’m going away for vacation in one week from now and don’t have time to book with anyone else. That’s an unfortunate for me, but it is for Jami and the salon as well, because she lost me as a client and all the recommendations that I was doing for and the salon. I just cannot believe in such a lack of customer service!

I think Alexia is a great stylist. She's friendly and does an exceptional job. It's a very chill and relaxing experience which I appreciate as I don't get a lot of quiet time. I appreciate how at times she gives me options to achieve the specific style I want but altered slightly to make it look best and catered to how I want. Most of the time I rely on her judgement to make it look good and I'm never disappointed. Also Kristin gave me the most amazing head massage during hair wash that literally made all my built up stress and headache from fatigue go away. Going to zazou is worth every penny.

I paid $75 (inc a $10 tip) for getting my split ends removed. It's simply not worth the price to get something done I could have easily done myself. Because my hair is "long and thick", I am charged minimum $50 when I walk in the door. There is an additional $7.55 COVID fee (which does not appear on your booking page, you have to read through a long, seperate protocol page to find that information), and of course it is expected that you tip. So here is my breakdown: Split end removal: $50 Eco fee(?) - $3.82 COVID fee - $7.55 Tip - $10 ------------------------------------- Total after tax: $74.44 I understand if you are getting something really special done like totally different haircut or a colour, but just to get split ends done? Seems really unreasonable. My boyfriend got a full hair cut after months of no upkeep, styling, eyebrow and beard trim for... $35. ☠️Anyways, just a word of caution for those looking to finally get a quick trim after months!

honestly, so done with this place. had the pushiest most upselly stylist the few times i went who's cuts were just awful, and the color always ended up looking exactly like what i already had. i found another salon i love (thanks supernova) but unfortunately they were booked this week and i needed an emergency color. when i called in today the receptionist reminded me of why i will never give zazou my money again. rushing to get me off the phone, fake and rude. bye.

Zazou is great! I've been here loads of times and have only ever got the friendliest service. The ladies at the reception are so warm and welcoming from the moment you enter and it's clean and so nice in the salon. If you want to dye your hair, you should make an appointment with Dara. She is the Balayage Queen. I've seen her multiple times and she is just amazing! Super friendly and definitely knows what she is doing! I've gotte a natural balayage and a lavender purple. I loved them both times. You won't be sorry if you see her!!

Updated Review: No matter what kind of day I'm having, Lauren always greets me with a warm cheerful smile and leaves me feeling fantastic. She is so patient with my hair style whims: "Short today" "No I'm growing it out" "Cut it all off again"! and we laugh and try something new. Trust is so important when its your hair and your image and Lauren always comes through for me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This evening I felt so well-taken care of from the moment I walked in the salon. everyone was following strict cleaning and distancing protocols so I felt very safe. Lauren is always so pleasant and friendly. She does an excellent job with my hair whether I'm growing it out or cutting it all off again. It is hard for me to trust it to anyone else.

It was really nice to get a cup of tea, hot towel and hand cream before my appointment. Yalda was really friendly and knowledgeable. She understood what I wanted and gave me a great cut. The head massage was really good - I almost fell asleep. I'm looking forward to my next appointment.

As a person of colour I was a little skeptical when I was told I could get my hair braided...the experience started off well the hairdressers are great...my appointment for braids usually takes 1-2 hours downtown turned into 5- 6 hours here. My hairdresser had appointments during mine which made me feel sidelined to where I was the only person left in the salon at night hungry as hell...I knew the hairdresser lacked experience when my hair was braided without being straightened first (curls make hair look like frizz in braids). Finally when the job was finished the front looked decent but when i got home the back was lumpy looked like a mess..i had to take out all the braids so I essentially wasted money and time to be sidelined for other customers and have a poor braid job done....I'd say this is a prime example of the lack of diversity training in hair salons after conducting mapping project at university it is clear no one on the north shore knows how to deal with black hair I'd say I'm surprised but I am not as most customers at these places are of European decent.

Found the perfect hair stylist five minutes from home! I have been seeing Emma for probably a year or more. I always leave the salon feeling good. In the past, in other salons, after a period of time, I notice the hair stylist just repeats the style month after month. At Zazou Emma always checks with me for comments on my last cut and colour after leaving the salon asking for any changes I might have. I appreciate this. I would highly recommend Emma at Zazou. 9 months after Covid...Emma on Mat leave, I booked app with Max, a new stylist at Zazou. He suggested letting my hair show its natural curls and I did. A new exciting time for me! Thank you Max for this new easy to care for style! I would definitely recommend Max. He listens and makes great suggestions!

After having such high expectations of the Salon, I was a bit disappointed. I had James cut my hair and he wasn't interested in giving me ideas or suggestions about what to do with my hair, he wanted me to tell him exactly what to do. I wrote below a few weeks ago and after, we received a phone call that changed my perception. They waived the fees they were asking for and apologized. So, I will go back again. Dissatisfied with cheap gesture of the salon! Been there a week ago for hair cut for my self and highlights and hair color for two friends of mine. the work was good and we were happy with the result however, we spent over 1200 and tipped as well then and received a phone call a week later for a $40 that was miscalculated and they didn't charge the toner or something for one person of us. this is 1/3 of the tip that we paid and with a high end and expensive salon like this for their first time customers that booked their 2 next appointment I would expect they would be more wise about their marketing. so with this attitude they will get their $40 and lose 3 regular customer.

Zazou is very nice. Newly renovated. I do find each stall pretty small, felt a bit too close to the person next to me. They give you a welcome tray when you first start your appointment. Cup of tea ,coffee or water, a piece of mint, hot towel and some hand lotion. I booked with Phuong, and she was great. She took the time to get to know what I wanted before starting. She's super friendly and conversational. She even took the time to curl my hair and make it look really pretty. She also gave me lots of good tips and recommendations for my frizzy hair. Highly recommended this place, especially Phuong!

I have been a customer of Zazou for over a year now and not planning to change. I have a very good stylist. She is professional, intuitive and also charming! She always cuts my hair just the way I like it and I am not afraid of experimenting new looks with her. Besides that, they have good appointment reminder system that will alert you by e-mail few days in advance of your appointment and someone will call the day before. They are open late and work hard and they do love what they do. It is a bit pricey but it is worth your good looks and spirit!

I have had generally good experiences here. I went to Simone and she has done well with what can be done with my hair. She's very skilled at what she does. However, I have tried several times to get away from my natural color, which I do not like. Each time I've gone in, she's done something much too close to my natural color, and I end up hating my hair until I get it done next time. At my most recent appointment I wanted to make sure that I didn't get the same color that I really don't like, so I explicitly said, "I don't like this color" indicating the part of my hair that is near my natural color. I think she thought I meant I didn't like it now after the color had faded when I meant that I have never liked it. She explained that it had faded that and that it's brighter when it's first done. I showed her pictures of what I wanted, but in the end, I came out of there with the same color I have always had. As soon as I got home I was disappointed that I came home, yet again, with a color that I hate. I live in Maple Ridge and was not excited about going all the way back to get it fixed, so I waited a couple of weeks to call them. As I understand it, they have a two week guarantee on services. I called the morning after the two weeks ran out, and I was just out of luck. I really hate my hair.

The staff are very accommodating, professional and experienced. I know I will enjoy my experience (you are given a warm towel and a complimentary coffee/tea while you wait) and I have no doubt that I will get a quality haircut, so I look forward to coming there. I come to Zazou (it's on the North Shore) all the way from downtown, it's worth the drive in my opinion!

My sister went in for a hair lightning treatment, and was slight dissapointed with the outcome, but more frustrated with the fact that the stylist did not communicate what was going to happen. I personally have loved my hair cuts here, but I have never gotten my hair dyed, and I think that the more expirence a stylist has the more confident you feel that your hair will turn out as expected. So when getting your hair done don’t be afraid to bring a picture, ask lots of questions, and don’t be afraid t speak up. Again good salon with good prices, but communication is not fully meeting expectations.

I definitely felt very prioritized the minute I got in, and my stylist Saghar greeted me shortly after I sat down. I came in expecting for a perm, but after a consultation with Saghar, I realized that it was not something I wanted. Instead, she taught me how to curl and style my lob with a flat iron! I absolutely love her techniques and she did not even charge me for the styling! I was so satisfied with my service that I purchased a flat iron that she used on me, and I am so excited to start styling my hair on my own! Never returning. I spent over 6 years being a client, and I can't believe I spent so long being taken advantage of. They never kept my file, every time I called they asked if I was my cousin, I'd correct them and they would go "oh we don't seem to have you on file, let's make a new one." for 6 years. I would often get the full works, cut and colour on dark, already treated hair, and I'd never walk away without paying between $250-$300. I can't remember paying less than $180 for a simple cut! Once, for my birthday, my mother bought me a gift card for $200 for a hair makeover. I had bleached and dyed my hair blue previously and with this appointment I had wanted to get a cut, have my roots bleached, and have the blue redyed do it wasnt washed out. The man whose chair I sat in told me that my budget wouldn't cover what I wanted and I had to make sacrifices. I said, if I could put up to $150 of my own money in there, would it make a difference? He said regardless, he couldn't bleach my 2 inch long roots for that little, but he could use a better quality dye. I was young and didn't know how to stand up for myself and agreed because I thought maybe the blue would stick on my roots because I did have a few grey despite just turning 21. This man charged me $350 on my birthday to throw blue dye on my head and trim my ends. I left very disappointed and when my mother told me to stand up for myself, and I went back and explained I wasn't happy with it, they refused to do any more work on me unless I paid, but I couldn't because that $150 of my own money that I had put up was my LAST $150 and I had 3 dollars in my account. I left crying. I've never felt so taken advantage of and disrespected. Only go if you enjoy services from people more interested in your wallet than your happiness.

They offered complimentary hot towels, hand cream and I was tempted to take them up on their cool list of alcoholic bevvys to relax but loved the tea I chose. Before covid , you’d always get a little towel, hand cream, and water or beverage and mint! They make you feel like a queen at a high end spa and I love it ! For those ppl who have troubles affording it , I know it’s a bit on the pricier side but if you find a stylist who does your hair as you like , I promise it’s worth the cost. They’re very good at being Patient with payments and rescheduling if you can’t afford it yet, and give cost prices ahead to make sure there are no surprises. You pay for the experience and cleanliness and comfort alongside the stylist. So for ppl who are complaining about cost , they shouldn’t go to a high end spa and be expected to be treated like a queen and then pay 10$ for a cut you get at hair clips. I’m sorry but more beautiful and hygienic locations cost more because it costs more to upkeep. I love the cleanliness and beauty of the space and comfort and kindness therefore I don’t mind saving and spending extra. Lindsey is the blonde specialist and I will stick with her as long as she is there.

Meh, last time I went I left after four hours and my hair looks exactly the same. I discovered this place, when I offered to be a model for one of the hair students. She did an awesome job and paid so much attention to detail. I got so many compliments on my hair. The second time I booked with a stylist for a full head of highlights. I was so disappointed in my hair and it cost $250! I told her it looked exactly the same and the stylist insisted that it would look lighter in natural light...it has now been a few weeks and it does not. She blow dried my hair and it was a pouffy mess. I can't believe as a stylist that you would be willing to let someone leave looking like this. I will never return here again unless to work with a student because this way some one is looking over their work and making sure you are happy. They sent a survey post service and I left my comments, no one addressed them. What a waste of money.

Its obviously going to cost more than a Super Cuts but its in a totally different leauge than places like that. 5 stars all the way. Youll feel like a movie star or something at this place.

Being that it was my first visit at the salon, I had a wonderful experience. The receptionist, Sarah greeted me with a smile and even offered a beverage! I was given a tray of sparkling water and wet towel as well as some hand cream and mint. As I met my hair stylist, Saghar she provided me tour around the salon. I was very happy with the results of my haircut. She kept it long as I had requested but trimmed the ends to keep it healthier. The shampoo and conditioner that was provided made my hair very smooth and soft and silky. We also had some great conversations that we could relate to which made me even more comfortable with her. I am usually skeptical of going to new salons but I really trusted my stylist (Tasha Carver, who came recommended by my work colleague) with my hair and relaxed quickly. She also gave a great head massage while she was washing my hair, one of my favourite parts about going to the salon! it was a very positive experience: loved the decor, atmosphere. I have been to Zazou twice now, the first time I was given an okay cut but did not think it was any better than the cut I would receive at a cheaper salon. However after growing my hair below my shoulders so that I could have a new style, I made an appointment with a Zazou stylist. I took along a picture of the style I wanted, which was a style appropriate for a mature woman and for thick wavy hair which I have. It was a simple style, cut straight just above the shoulders with some whispy bangs - easy. What I got was probably what every 50+ client gets from this stylist - long at the front but very short and layered at the back, with short slanted bangs to one side, styled straight. I told her I did not like the cut and that it was nothing like the photo I had provided, she was sorry and gave me a 20% discount but paying $48.00 after the discount did nothing to make up for my displeasure because knowing my hair is thick and wavy I knew that this style was not going to work for me. I just washed and styled my hair (well I tried) it looks terrible. Honestly, I have no idea why this stylist thought she could ignore my choice of style and do whatever she wanted and think I would be happy. I will never return to Zazou.

It feels as though you are somewhere else when you walk in off the street from Lonsdale. I had my hair done by Veronica. She did a great job and took care to do my hair exactly as I wanted, and didn’t cut too much off as she knew I wished to keep the length. All the staff are friendly, well put together and I enjoyed my experience there. The prices are also reasonable. I would recommend going.

Is Tasha the same person as Natasha? Becaue I booked an appointment with Tasha based on positive reviews here but that was a huge mistake. I showed her a picture of the style I want. I got a totally different haircut. Her excuse was we talked about cutting my hair shorter than what was in the photo. But problem is she didn’t explain that cutting my hair shorter would mean getting a totally different style which I resent. If for whatever reason the stylist is not sure about what she’s going to do, I think it’s better to refuse to do service than to ruin someone’s hair. Anyways nothing said or done can fix my hair now, just have to wait till it grows.

I had a haircut with Gazi (master stylist) and he did an amazing job! I showed him pictures of what I wanted (long layered hair with curtain bangs) and he was able to give me the exact haircut and style. He also did a complimentary scalp test (unique method, never had any other hair salon do this) and he suggested an anti-dandruff treatment, which I also decided to do. I also received a complimentary scalp lotion. Overall, loved the experience and hair results. Definitely a little pricey, but so worth it! Will definitely come back!

I went into Zazou Salon for a major hair transformation. I had used red box dye in my hair and needed to have a color correction and balayage highlights done. From first greeting to goodbye they were friendly and professional. When guided to the chair I was given a scented hot towel and hand lotion, a very nice touch. They offered me water, tea, coffee several times throughout my visit. I have a ton of hair and very porous hair which means it absorbs alot, that means they had to use way more product and foils on me then they would another person. I didnt get overcharged due to this, the stylist Yalda worked tirelessly on my hair for over 6 hours, using her expertise to give me the hair I had asked for. She was great at managing my expectations, going lighter when you have red box dye in your hair is no easy task. My hair was not damaged and the color came out better than either of us could have imagined. I was completely satisfied and would reccomend Zazou Salon and Stylist Yalda to EVERYONE.

Had a very disappointing experience. Came to Zazou based on the positive reviews, and my experience was the very opposite! My stylist Simone was 30 mins late, once she colored my hair, she was fulltime on another client. She was clearly overbooked and running behind, she had someone else do the wash and dry. Didn’t even have time to check in until i was at the till paying. You don’t expect to pay for a master stylist only to have an apprentice spend half the time with you. Please respect client’s time, and make it a relaxing experience instead of a stressful one.

I was very disappointed with our experience at Zazou this week. At the time of payment, they charge you an eco fee (as they are a green salon) and a COVID fee (to cover the costs of cleaning the salon). If the haircut was stellar, it would have made it easy to pay the additional costs. However, our stylist barely talked to us through our appointment and the haircut was uneven.

Wow, wow, wow!! I used Samantha for my full highlights. I love my new hair so much and I mean you'd think that highlighting your hair will result in your hair being MORE damaged but my before picture looks much more damaged than my after WITH the bleach, dye, etc treatment my hair went through. It smells amazing and still feels relatively soft and healthy. I would say it's still 80% soft. Highly recommend the salon and Samantha for highlighting. It's pricy but overall worth it to walk out happy and with healthy hair rather than going to a cheap salon that'll end up with you crying. She also gave shampoo/conditioner/treatment recommendations which was very nice as well.
