The hair dresser was terrible. I can't wash my hair with salon shampoo due to allergies and this really seemed to piss her off even though I has just washed it prior to arriving. I had booked a cut and updo. She asked me what I wanted for my hair style and I started to explain and she cut me off with " I can't do that. I don't have time" This would have been fine but after I was done I had to wait for the rest of the people in our group to finish so we sat there for 45 minutes watching her talk and do nothing but she apparently didn't have that time to do my hair. We are from out of town but I wouldn't go back again that is for sure.

I went here years ago and just stumbled on the website again after googling hair salons in my area (which is funny because this salon is nowhere near where I live now). Anyway, it reminded me that I had a somewhat negative experience here. My hairdresser was Karianne. She did a fine job cutting/styling my hair, and was fairly personable for the most part, but she said something that stuck with me. When she asked how short I wanted my hair, I said about mid-neck, and she said it was good I didn't want it chin-length because we don't want to draw attention to my chin, which she called a "weak spot". I really hope she has since learned to be more careful with her words because it's been three years and I still think about that comment sometimes.

I had a horrible haircut at a random place and scheduled an emergency appointment at Poppy with Julie to fix my hair. It was my first time going to Poppy hairsalon. Julie sat down with me, talked to me, and calmed me down. We talked about the ways in which she could fix the bad haircut I got at the other place. She began slowly and confirmed with me every step of the way. After an hour, the result was astonishing. She did an amazing job fixing my really thin, bad cut hair!!!! She showed me how to style it at home too. I am so happy now. Going to this hairsalon was a great experience and I am definitely going back. Julie was amazing and super professional. I have never had an awesome hair like this before. Great job!!!! Thanks for making my day!

I had a great experience at Poppy! The front staff were kind and helpful, and they had great covid procedures set up that made the whole experience feel very safe. Caroline cut my hair, and it’s the best haircut I’ve had in 2, maybe even 3 years. It’s really hard to find people who can cut the bulk out of my wavy hair while still making it manageable for me to style on my own, but Caroline nailed it. She even successfully gave me longer bangs, which have never worked for my hair before. I can’t recommend Caroline and Poppy Hair Salon enough!

I was so happy with my hair cut from Kariane, she was so professional and understand my concerns on what style I wanted my hair. I showed her few pictures that I like and make a suggestions on what's best for me. I had few bad experienced in salon, that the hairstylist doesn't listen what I wanted from having a long hair to get style specially in cutting it short. Wendy was my hairstylist, she is one of the Jr. stylists and WOW! I went in with an impossible idea for a haircut, I wanted my puffy hair to be thinned in a way that wouldn’t look layered. She pulled it off way better than I imagined it could be done! Not only that but she washed my hair, gave an aromatic head massage, added special products and styled my hair afterwards, for only $40!!! I really recommend this place and especially Wendy.

Been using this salon for about 2 years now. Have to say that I've got a good haircut twice, the rest(about 5) was a total disaster, basically shredded my hair, uneven by up tp 2".The last time was in November. Had to go back to have it fixed, but to no avail, the person did cut some hair, but did not see that it was uneven. They now have a second branch up the road, and I assume that's where the amateurs cut your hair. I will go there to get my money back, and surely won't recommend this outlet to males. By the way, the outlet reeks of chemicals, am not sure if their HVAC system is working properly. I had to click on a star to post this, but actually my rating is negative 3

The stylist (Carly) was very friendly, but when I asked for long layers, she gave me mid length layers and completely thinned my hair out. I have lost my natural texture and wave in my hair and the layers are uneven and have been flopping in front of my face. As well, when we were deciding on the pieces that framed my face, we decided on a length, but she actually trimmed it shorter than decided as we went on, so now I can’t tuck my hair behind my ear without a few random pieces sticking out. I’m sure others might not have found it to look bad but it was not what I asked for. I should have said something in the salon but it wasn’t until when I got home and had a closer look at the layering. This is going to take my a while to recover the length.

Great experience and staff! After my old salon closed I tried a bunch of different high-end salons with no success until I found Poppy. This place is great, the staff take the time to work with you to create the look you are envisioning for yourself. It never feels as though they are rushing through to get to the next client. They really make you feel like a priority. I went for both a cut and highlights, both of which turned out to be the best I have ever had. Highly recommend this place, prices are fair, service exceptional and staff knowledgeable.

I have been going to Poppy since moving to Vancouver and every single time I have had an excellent experience with the same stylist! I was in dire need of a haircut 4 days ago and he was busy so I went to someone else. I left happy-ish with my hair (not what I wanted, she cut the back shorter than the front) but just noticed she cut a chunk out of the back of my hair and didn’t bother to tell me. My hair goes to about my shoulders and the chunk at the back is only 2 inches long, pretty noticeable and impossible to hide. Would consider going back to my old stylist but NOT to the one who chopped a chunk out of my hair. She was also a more senior stylist.

I met one of the hairdressers Angeles when she was a student at AVEDA in Gastown and I finally grew out my hair and it was in desperate need of shaping and highlights, I tracked her down, cause she was so good the other times I had her and got her new info and went to the new digs in Kits where today I got highlights, low lights, and a trim and am super, duper happy, she is great at what she does and kind, thoughtful and a wonderful stylist, I recommend her to everyone. I found that the stylists here only charge for their cuts based on experience level, so it doesn't cost more to see a senior stylist for color. Poppy was the first salon we visited in Vancouver after moving here. We saw that it came highly recommended so I took my daughter (who has long hair) to get some lowlights and a toner (and possibly a small trim). We were happy with the skill and service there, no complaints. The downside... we paid more at this salon than any salon we’ve ever visited, even abroad. Our bill was over $400. I have never paid more then $250 on her hair (a typical visit being, highlights or lowlights, toner and blow dry) We did buy product to be fair, but wow.

She listens to what I want and if I don't know what I want I tell her whatever looks good because I trust her and I know she's knows what she's doing. A lot of the times she has free reins on my hair because there are a lot of times I don't know what I want but she makes sure I'm okay with it. I enjoy my experience and I highly recommend Heidi if you need a hair stylist.

Lovely stylists and atmosphere. I'm always satisfied when I get my hair done here! Edit: recently i went and got the same stylist two times. The first time i thought maybe she was having an off day, i wasnt satisfied with the cut at all but i just left it at that. Its really hard to bring this up at the appointment because you dont want to be super mean and ruin everyones day but.... I got her again recently and she gave me a really bad cut again, i asked for a trim and she took like 2.5inches off!! My hair barely went into a ponytail. She said she was done with it all poofy and dry looking and that she didnt have time to do anything else, so i had to ask another stylist to style it (fix it...) for me. There was an extra charge of course, but in the end i left upset and the whole day i felt super concious of how bad it looked. Ive been coming here for a while.... definitely try to book your appointments in advance, if you do a walk in you might not get a great stylist.

I have been coming to Poppy for five or so years and have had awesome experiences here. Heidi consistently does an excellent job of my warm blonde highlights. And if something needs adjusting, she makes time to correct it so I'm totally happy. After years of terrible stylists I'm so pleased I found her. Not letting her go!! ;) The rest of the staff seems similarly great. After booking a stylist I was unfamiliar with for my sister (who hadn't had her hair done professionally in years) the end result was the biggest smiles and unrelenting joy over the results. I went here a couple years ago, they did an absolutely banging job on the colour, I dont remember her name as it was so long ago. But, she at the time had blonde hair, and was kind a pixie cut. A lil older then 30. I loved chatting with her. and her colour job was perf. The second woman was also nice, but I didnt like my hair cut from her. It was very blunt and much shorter then we had both agreed on. I never went back due to the cut. which is sad i know. But, it happens. My hair grew out eventually. BUTTTTT that was just a 1 time experience here for me. Other then that the staff were very lovely and they got me in quickly. I would recommend this place as Ive seen some friends come and go with great cuts.

Great experience at Poppy's Hair Salon! OK, I have been drugstore dying my hair for the past few years (let's face it, it IS cheaper!) and yup - I cooked my hair (ugh). I accidently went too dark and looked like a perma goth wanna-be. So, after some prodding from mother I sought a professional. I was really lucky get in with Mikhyla, she's got a ton of great experience behind her and an artistic eye, she was able to help me out. I have a mixture of dark and low lights that go up to caramel and if I do say so myself, it looks great - thanks Mikhyla!! The experience at the salon was really nice - no cliché hair salon attitude at all. (I mean, who wants to pay money to get all vibed-out anyway?) The place felt tasteful, down-to-earth, and friendly above all else. Oh, and the Aveda products are niiiiiice! Thanks Poppy staff, no doubt you'll see me when the silvers come back, lol! ~ Kelly

I love what she does with my short hair (which is now in Tilda Swinton meet Black Stallion horse look), which is as near as anything to a Vidal Sassoon hair cut. She gives an awesome head massage and always has something interesting to share and laugh heartily about. She's my favourite hair stylist in the 12 years I've lived in Vancouver, and I've been to many to find my 'ultimate' stylist. PS: I like the casual vibe of the salon, too.

First time coming to this salon, didn't really enjoy it. The front staff is nice, but my stylist had me wait 1 hour past my original appointment time, then in the chair I didn't really feel attended to, maybe it was the end of the day and they weren't trying to stay late. But, being a new customer just wanting to get something I would enjoy: I felt my needs weren't met or asked about much, and I didn't feel re-assured. Overall felt like this experience wasn't very personable. Front of the cut was fine, but she didnt even show me the back. When I saw at home after realising, was not what I wanted at all. I didn't feel like I could comfortably any input into what I wanted, and the job felt rushed. I will most likely get it fixed somewhere else. Sorry, just wasn't for me.

I absolutely love the experience that I received from the senior stylist named Ashley. I got highlights and a haircut. She took time to listen to what I was thinking and was also able with her professionalism and sense of style to make suggestions upon my personal style and what’s in “trend”. My consultation never felt rushed and we were totally on the same page when she started my colour. She took in consideration the fact that I have fine hair and used the proper dye to keep the integrity of my hair. When you sit in her chair she really takes care of you. She Always replenished my drinks and make sure that i was confortable. I highly recommend her and will for sure be back for my touch up and trim. Just spent 200$ correcting the styling I had done by Heidi at this salon. Coming out of the shop my hair looked shiny and healthy. But, once I got home and could really take a look at my hair I noticed the colour was dull, patchy and a weird crayon blonde / brown as opposed to caramel ombre balayage as I had requested. Also, the cut was uneven and unfinished. Disappointing and very expensive.

Horrible! My hair is actually falling out. The hair cut was okay but clearly my hair wasn't set up right for the coloring. I didn't get the girls name but she was middle aged with red/orange? hair. I'm newer to Vancouver so I read the reviews of a few different places. I live in Olympic village but decided to commute over because of the google reviews. THEY ARE LIES. I'm not sure if they have people posting for them but I now have to spend even more money to get my hair fixed. I look like a chucky doll. I tried to call and the person who picked up just told me it can happen and they can try to fix it. why would I pay for someone else to ruin my hair? The cut was okay, she was a nice girl. The color girl wasn't very friendly who did my hair and although she was considered a better one didn't make me comfortable with being there especially after spending $$$$$$. I don't want anyone else to fall for the "5" stars. There is so many salons in this city AVOID this one.

I felt comfortable talking about how I was unhappy about my highlights and what I wanted. She listened and gave very good advice! She did a toner and fixed my highlights with foils so that they would be more blended and I was happy in general although it became very dark and I did not feel it was ashy. She told you should see it in natural light and took me to the sidewalk. She took a tiny section of my hair which was light and told me that all your toners will be that light ashy if I wash my hair a few times. I was going to a vacation 3 days after so at least my hair was not yellow anymore. I kept my hair unwashed for 3 days to help the toner become fixed. On day 4 I went to my vacation. On day 5 we arrived and when I washed and dried my hair I was horrified!!!! The toner was gone completely and my hair had became yellow again!! All my pictures are with yellow highlights!!!! I paid $90 for toner and foils (for blending my hair) and all my vacation I was frustrated about the color of my highlights!!! About the cut, I cant say it was bad or extraordinary! It was Just OK. When I came back from vacation I saw Tina again, and she toned my hair again. She did a light ashy toner and it is nice now. I am happy with the results. She did not charge me and was very nice and respectful. She said my hair was very dry and maybe that is why the toner was not absorbed into hair!! I hope the toner stays this time at least for a month!

I have been to this salon twice after being recommended by a good friend of mine who usually goes to the same stylist regularly. Both times I had completely opposite experiences. I don’t get my hair done very often and when I do, I usually let the stylist do what they want - within agreed guidelines. The first time I went, Carly was my stylist. She was super confident and totally got what I wanted with my hair. She explained every detail about what she wanted to do and continued to do so throughout the process. This helped me trust her and I felt from the get go that I was in good hands. As it was my first time at the salon we also discussed pricing and she gave me a total cost before we even began. I loved the result and was super happy with the overall experience that I couldn’t wait to go back in a few months for the same thing. The second time I went I had a different stylist as Carly was unavailable. Again, she was a lovely girl however, immediately I didn’t feel the same sense of confidence or communication etc that I did the first time. My file was on record from the first time I was there and I asked if I could just do the same thing again. She looked at my hair and commented on how Carly had done a great job and that “she didn’t know how she did that”. In the end my hair looked no different... The stylist even commented on ‘how subtle’ the transformation was. Considering I get my hair done twice a year, the result I’m going for is usually not so subtle. She quickly blow dried my hair but didn’t style it with products or tools in anyway. As I have naturally curly hair it was frizzy and unkept looking as I left the salon. This time it was even more expensive than the first time. I’m not sure why?? I was never consulted it would cost more either and when I asked for the same as what I had done the first time I assumed it would cost the same. Overall I think this salon is not consistent. I loved my results the first time I went and spoke highly about the service I received but unfortunately, I was let down by the result the second time.

Went in for a pastel pink balayage, so glad I took Heidi's advice and went for a dark purple instead. This was my first time ever dying my hair, and she was very patient and friendly while answering all my questions. I never felt like she was hasty or careless, and in the end the colour came out so much nicer than I ever imagined. The entire salon had a friendly atmosphere, and the shop looked very nice and professional. The only possible thing I could complain about was the price (It was a total of $270 for the balayage and hair cut), but since I don't have any experience in hair, this may be a completely reasonable price. Worth every penny, and thank you to Heidi!

Had my hair cut and dyed there. I was scared of doing it cause it was the first salon I've been to since i arrived in Vancouver, especially because i have curly hair. But it turned out amazing and I'm really happy with the result. Both woman were very knowledgeable and knew that they were doing, while explaining the process to me.

I have never left a review on anything before but absolutely had to after my sisters experience here. I paid for her to have her hair done here thinking it would be a nice treat for her and it was a complete disaster! Her stylist was called Ashley and my sister said that she was friendly but I think she must have done her hair with her eyes closed! The colour is so patchy and not at all blended. The cut is completely uneven too. One side is about an inch longer than the other. It looks like it could have been cut with a fork and knife! I feel so guilty that I sent her there! Ashley also got bleach all over the back of my sisters shirt completely ruining it and didn't even tell her. We find it hard to believe Ashley didn't notice that happening at the time. I have heard from others that Carly is an excellent stylist and the best one at Poppy so I'm sure it is possible to have a great experience at Poppy but I would definitely not recommend Ashley.

I'm so glad I found Poppy! I called them yesterday morning in a bit of despair as I had been struggling with highlights done at a different salon which had turned out chunky and uneven on one side. I was able to schedule a same-day consultation with Tracy, who patiently listened to my concerns and suggested a couple of ways in which my hair could be fixed within my budget. We went ahead with the treatment right then and I was so pleased with the result! I can finally appreciate my highlights and am thankful to Tracy for the work she did. I'll also be going back to Poppy for my next haircut -- I liked the atmosphere and the pricing seems fair, with a 15% student discount on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

I originally booked in with Josh for a simple cut - a long bob. During the appointment, he did not speak to me. I attempted conversation with him multiple times and he simply ignored me. When it came to the actual cut, I told him I wanted to go shorter with some layers - he didn't ask for any inspo pics and immediately got to work. During the actual cut, he was incredibly aggressive and even scraped my chest with the scissors. When this happened, I jumped, but he didn't apologize or acknowledge it in any way. when it came to shampooing, he was again very aggressive. There was no head massage and he left me there with conditioner sitting in my hair for many minutes. After the shampoo, he didn't ask how i wanted my hair styled. He put some mousse in it and left me again. After, he told me I was done and didn't ask me how I felt or if I'd like him to do anything else. He got me out of the chair and that was that. He only became chatty and smiling when I told him I wanted to buy some shampoo. I went home feeling like a dog that had just finished at the groomers. I called the salon the next day to say what happened and the receptionist was apologetic and got me in to see a new stylist who was amazing. I forget her name (sorry)! During my fix appointment, Josh was there the whole time and did not acknowledge me, though I knew he saw me. I do not know if he was told about my extreme displeasure with his work and his treatment of me. Either way, his customer service skills continued to be dismal. I wish I could rate the salon higher because of the wonderful stylist I saw the second time. I feel that the receptionist should have spoken with me when I showed up for my fix appointment and ask me more about my experience the day before. On the phone she seemed to want to book me for my fix and not hear any more about it. I would have liked to be assured that my complaint would be put on file or something. Though my hair got fixed, and for that I am certainly grateful, I do not feel like the uncomfortable experience I had the day before was truly rectified - if it had been I would not be writing this review. I'm sure most of the stylists at Poppy are as awesome as the one I saw the second time and I think management should support their careers and their artistry by making sure everyone on staff is committed to professionalism and good customer service.

Jolena did a wonderful with my hair. She understood completely the look and length that i wanted. She makes you comfortable from the first time she meets you. I was so glad that they follow covid protocol. The price was affordable, i thought that the price advertised would just be for the haircut but the price included a shampoo, a haircut, a blow dry and hair straightening! So yes the price was totally worth it and i came out of the salon happy as ever with my lovely haircut. Will definitely visit in the future for another haircut.

Tracy is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! She gave my hair a deep conditioning treatment and cut after it was over-processed and damaged at another salon. I couldn't stop running my hands through it! She gave fantastic advice and product recommendations for my hair type, and how to keep it healthy until the damage grows out. Great 1st experience! I am a male with relatively curly hair which makes the cut quite tricky. One out of ten stylists can get it right and I found one at this place! Picked this Salon because its close to where I live and because of the reviews here. Josh did the cut. He figured very easy what I wanted without even asking, simply by looking at how I styled it. Great service! So happy with my hair. I have long wavy thick hair and it can be hard to manage. Jolene cut my hair in layers without reducing my hair length. Definitely one of the best haircuts i have gotten in a very long time. She did not cut my hair too much which is something a lot of hair stylists do, she listened to what I said and gave me the haircut that I wanted. She also taught me how to style my hair.
