Worst haircut of my life and over 6 months later I'm still trying to hide the mistake while it grows out. I went to Moods on the recommendation of a friend (who has lovely hair). I asked for bangs and showed Jordon a picture of myself with bangs from about 2 years ago. I have pretty easy hair to cut, it's straight and there's a fair bit of it. He made the mistake of cutting the hair at the left side of my face (at my temple and below) short to be part of the bangs (the rest of my hair was between chin and shoulder length. Hhe didn't do the same on the right side, and I certainly didn't ask for an "asymmetrical style" so there is no way to justify it as deliberate and part of the style), after seeing what he'd done I actually had to tell him to stop cutting as he tried to blend it in taking more and more hair off the side of my face above my ear. I got charged full price, and as I left there I hoped I was just being emotional about my new hairstyle, and tried to convince myself it wasn't that bad. But after struggling to make my hair look decent 2 months later, (and talking to another couple of hairdressers about how to "fix" it - options were to "hide it" while it grows out, or cut all my hair short - I went with the former option) I contacted the salon about my dissatisfaction. To their credit they were very helpful in trying to rectify the issue, inviting me back in to try to fix it free of charge (of course they were unable to - if only they could glue hair back on), but at the end of the day I still paid good money to have my hair butchered and am still dealing with the mistake! I'm sure some of them are decent hairdressers (my friend's hair still looks great), but I am in awe of how a supposedly reputable salon could make such an amateur and serious mistake!

I have been visiting Moods for almost a year now. I simply LOVE Freddie. He is an amazing stylist and colorist. He always knows exactly the look I am going for and understands my very thick hair and how to cut it. Cutting thick wavy hair is something, I have learned the hard way, that takes a great deal of skill. Freddie is fantastic. He is also very interesting and fun to chat with, all the while knowing when I just am wanting to sit quietly some days. The salon staff are very professional and everyone seems invested and passionate about what they are doing. The stylists/apprentices and the front desk team make you feel welcome and cared for. It's an exceptional salon. I travel from Surrey to see Freddie and the Moods team and I am happy to do so. Every single time I leave that salon I feel better than when I walked in....who doesn't want that kind of an experience?

I hate going to get my hair cut, for me it's the same as how some people feel about going to the dentist, I dread it and put it off, just because I look a bit alternative and generally find the experience awkward. Moods Hair Salon reminds me of the Grand Budapest Hotel. It is an institution. From beginning to end I felt listened to, felt I was heard, was cared for and as a result had a delightful experience. I would almost go back just for the conversation, wash, and style alone. My hair colour turned out great, my stylist Freddy made me feel confident about what I envisioned and how he was going to bring me there. Firstly no one from the SALON replayed for my email about this situation. So I was in salon on Friday and I am disappointed. I dyed my hair and it is not what I expected. I asked for lighter ends and light highlights I showed pictures what I expect but I got grey ends... The color is very cold and does not match with my skin tone at all. I did not realize that then I was in salon because of the different lighting and I thought that I will like it even if it is so dark. But I don't. I was waiting my hair to grow back about about a year and I was looking for a good hair salon for a month. This situation makes me feel very very sad.

I went in to get a blonde colour and ended up with a dark fudgy brown that was nothing like the pictures I had shown. I called back the day after to explain my disappointment, staff was super nice and book me to come back. Second visit I again showed pictures of the blonde I was going for. I ended up with the same dark fudgy brown with highlights and 150$ less.. At no point, I was told I would not get the colour of the pictures I was showing and for that I am very disappointed. Staff was great, but I dont recommend to go in for a blonde colouring.

Extremely Knowledgeable, Creative, and Perceptive / Great Salon I am a new client and Johanna came highly recommended by a favourite fitness instructor whose long hair always looks healthy and stylish. Over the past decade, I have invested far too much time and money in vain trying to get my hair cut, coloured, and styled just right. Yet, within 30 minutes after meeting Johanna, she worked her magic: I simply showed her a photo of when I liked my hair best, and she not only listened carefully but also recreated the image and suggested tips on how to keep it healthy. A few days later, Johanna worked on my root colour and highlights. Again, she exceeded my expectations -- the old base colour and the layers of outdated colour have vanished ... & now my hair is rich, vibrant, and modern-looking. If anyone is looking to update their appearance and/or recreate an old look, Johanna is 'the' stylist! P.S. The assistants are great, too!

I am so incredibly happy with my results from Patrick! First off, he was incredibly kind and professional. I didn’t have an exact idea of what I wanted but I showed him some pictures and he did warn me that we might not be able to get as light/cool as I wanted since I had dark/previously dyed hair. The result was even better than anticipated though! Not only that, but the apprentices in the salon were also amazing, they were professional and knew what they were doing. I believe the prices reflect the quality of work being done, it’s no more expensive than anywhere else in Vancouver. I will most certainly be back as I’ve found my go to. ....was it worth $75?....no...definitely not...was hoping to go there for a new start and heard great things about this place...The people were definitely nice but the result of my hair was not what I expected from a $75 haircut. Used a electric shaver for most of the time and probably took only 15min to finish my hair cut. Barely used any scissors at all. Came home, there are some areas that sticking out which was supposed to be thinned out using scissors n layering it. Luckily my hair grows pretty quickly. Overall, the people there are nice and makes u feel welcome but..I just don't see how this is any better than my previous hairstylist in Van which costs less than 1/4 of that price. I would expect there will be a "WOW" factor for $75 (include tax would b $78 plus tips would b $85) but sadly it was disappointing

If you’re a first-timer in the hair world (specifically dyeing) I highly recommending doing your research for what you want before going in, just so that your hair dresser knows exactly what you want and so you know what you’re paying for. I only take one star off because it’s pricier than I’m used to but this is THE place for a “treat yourself” hair appointment!

I have been getting my hair cut by Chad for the past 6 years. I remember walking in the first time and said do what you think would look best and I've always walked out with a cut that holds up well until the next appointment. I also appreciate his honesty as a hair stylist. He provides honest feedback on hair styles and colour. To that point, I asked about transforming my ash brunette locks to blond and he said it was not realistic for my lifestyle. Being a new Mom he knew that the up keep of going blond was more than my schedule allowed and suggested a gradual transition via ombre. It was the perfect compromise! My experience was a little different because I was a model and not paying the full price. But I would happily pay the full price and then some! I felt really listened to by Chad and Emily (my hair is naturally curly but I wear it straight, and when I told them that they actually listened instead of proceeding to cut and style my hair curly because they think it’s nice, regardless of how I feel about it - this happens a LOT when I get my hair cut). My hair can be challenging because it requires blow drying and straightening just to sort of get it to the point where it can be finished in a cut, and both Chad and Emily really laboured for a good couple of hours. The end result was absolutely beautiful, and I was really grateful. This is my second cut at Moods in the last 2 years and the experience was perfect both times. Moods deserves all of the hype it gets.

Moved here from Alberta and needed to find a new hairstylist. I found the man! Had heard good things about the salon from a few people at work and decided to give Curtis a shot. I went in with a bad colour job from a stylist I was seeing in Calgary. I told Curtis what I was thinking and showed him a few pictures. He went through the reasons why it would be unattainable to get to the pictures I had showed and told me what we could do to get to where I wanted to be. It isn't often a stylist will tell you they cant get you where you want and then explain to you why. Most will go ahead and try and in the end you get something not even close to what you had expected. That was the case at other salons I have been to. He was honest and gave me a beautiful colour and cut. He LISTENED to what I wanted and that is so amazing and exactly what you need when you are trusting your hair to someone. He had recommended some shampoo and conditioner for me so I went ahead and purchased the set. After the first wash with the product it reacted very strangely with my hair and made it look greasy! over the following week I gave it two more chances but got the same result. I went back in to the salon and explained what happened and they gave me a different product to try and it worked much better with my hair. Great experience. Some may say it is pricy but you get what you pay for and if you want something amazing you have to expect to pay good money for it!

Don't go anywhere else for balayage! It's been a couple of years since I went to Curtis for balayage on my virgin hair and I've been chasing that first "high" ever since. After bad dye jobs at Ask Hair Studio, Zeal Hair Salon, and others, I wish I had stuck to Moods and not wasted money and jeopardized hair health elsewhere. Don't believe all the hype. I made an online appointment here and specifically asked for a quick consultation and a hair appointment right after. This was just so I cud chat with the stylist about my hair quickly before we started. The receptionist confirmed. When I arrived the next day however they had only booked me in for the consultation. I don't live in the area and I'm new to the city so it was hard for me to navigate my way around buying a bus pass to make it to the appointment only to have them say that they had booked me in wrong and had no time for me. But, people make mistakes, I understand. It sucks but it's life. What really upset me was that they promised to call me back and make it right yet never did. I chose this place bc of all the good reviews but obviously they don't care about their customers. I thought I wud at least get an email apologizing for making me come all the way out to an appointment that was overlooked or try to book me in another time but they just forgot about me. Probably the second I left the shop. NOT very professional. And way overpriced for the level of service. I expected more.

It is advertised as the best in Vancouver but I am dissapointed. I do not mind paying money for a good color and cut but I have had better for less money, . For such a professionally represented salon I was completely shocked by the owners lack of energy and enthusiasm when clients walk in or leave their salon. The only ones that were really friendly were the assistants. My hairstylist was pleasant enough but I was told that it was my fault my scalp was burned and oozing with puss/scabbed after having it bleached blonde. It was obvious to me that the bleaching was also left on too long. I was told it was because I washed my hair that morning. Which may be the case, but no discount on the next color/cut was offered at my second visit. I find it a bit cold and uncomfortable there. But you may like it, everyone is different. I will not be going back though.

To give this review some context - I went in as a model for a free blowdry by one of the apprentices so I'm not going to comment on the process or result of the styling. The apprentice was friendly (a star for this). What I want to share is that not soon after I left the salon, my scalp started to feel irritated (e.g. itchy). I'm not sure whether it was due to the cleanliness of tools/facility, the technique, or that I was sensitive to the hair products. Anyway, I felt pretty uncomfortable, especially because it is still COVID times. I had to wash my hair after I got home and the irritation stopped after. Also as soon as I walked in the salon, a staff gave me one of those "elevator eyes" (e.g. a quick scan at you from head to toe), which I think was unprofessional. To me these two issues should be the most basic things to avoid when operating a hair salon (or another service businesses). Maybe the experience would be different if I was a paying customer? Not sure and won't be going back to find out.

Johanna is smart, talented and incredibly perceptive (both as a stylist and in summing up your lifestyle needs). She's spot on with stylish and flattering cuts and has an amazing way with colour. She suits me because she's super-friendly but not hyper-talkative. She fully concentrates on the cut and it shows in the results. I actually enjoy my visits to the salon. All the people at Moods are friendly and helpful. They obviously want you to have a good result and feel comfortable getting there. I like the rigour of the follow-up and helpful suggestions. I went to Moods out of curiosity and had a cut with Chad, who had a number of accolades, including top hairstylist of the year a few times. I wasn't sure he could live up to they hype, but definitely did. I have a kind of asymmetrical hairline in the back and a cowlick on one side in the front and usually takes a stylist a few tries to get my hair the way I like it, but he got it first time, which is the reason for the top review. Bottom line, I go to a salon to get a fantastic cut as that's what people are going to be seeing for the next 3-4 weeks! The appointment was easy to book and they were flexible with times and when I walked in I didn't have to wait long to get a (delicious) coffee and nice head massage before sitting down with Chad, who was really personable as well as competent. I'd recommend this place to anyone who is serious about looking good. I've paid more to get less and not had nearly the amount of positive unsolicited comments from friends about my hair.

My hair is heavy, and too difficult for about 99.9% of stylists - it needs a master stylist to make it look as beautiful as it can be. Chad's technique is surgically precise, and left my hair perfectly balanced and weighted. With an absolute minimum of fuss, he turned a botched mess of a cut into something I can live with happily as it grows out. They are the WORST at cutting men's hair!! The owner, Tanya, is so rude and has a huge chip on her shoulder. She brags about having the contract for styling models during Fashion Week. She has absolutely no understanding of customer service. I provided clear instructions on what I wanted and the stylist completely messed up. They refused to spend the time to correct it and charged me more than their rate online! I will never come back to this place. There are many other great salons that treat customers with respect!

The hairdressers are skilled at this salon. On 2 different occasions, I have found the girls at the front desk soooo not helpful. I went back to buy some B&B shampoo, I asked the girl for an unscented shampoo and conditioner. She went to ask the shampoo girl. She came back and said "no" and then dismissed me. No effort was made to be more helpful than that. I know that B & B does have a good shampoo and conditioner that I can use, because I use this product. I am very sensitive to many products and sometimes have difficulty finding something that is good for me so I was not impressed. Another time, I called for an appointment to have my bangs cut. I thought I had one and checked in at the allotted time. I was ignored by everyone, both hairdressers and the receptionist. The receptionist never bothered to let anyone know I was there. I was becoming a little annoyed at this incompetence so I left rather than make a fuss. This crowded little hair salon needs to find themselves a more useful receptionist. Their receptionist has cost them this client. I will not be back. There are lots of skilled hairdressers in other hair salons.

I wish I could figure out how to include photos because I would so you could see how awful my hair looks. I went in today because my wedding is tomorrow. I had some blonde highlights in the front of my hair and I wasn’t really wanting them and just wanted them to be coloured to match the rest of my hair. They told me that it would still be tone-on-tone and that would have been fine but they did NOT tell me it would be a completely opposite tone to what I have in every conceivable way. What they did not tell me is that they were going to put a colour on those highlights that was a cool, pinky colour. My hair is now a warm, natural ginger colour everywhere except the very front of my head where I have cool reddish PINK highlights I understand that to them I was just another client, I was just a girl who paid them 150 bucks and they went on with their day. I get that I was just one of dozens of costumers that day to them, but to me this was EVERYTHING. I understand that I called last minute, but if they simply did not have the time to do what was needed for my hair for my WEDDING day they should have said so. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t have just told me if they didn’t have time. They also told my mom on the phone it was a senior stylist doing my hair and it ended up being what I think was an apprentice who needed help from another stylist and didn’t say a word to me the whole time I was there other than things like “ok 15 minutes”. I walked out of that salon and turned the corner and I sobbed. I have been crying in my hotel all day. I can’t get out of bed. I can’t even bear to think of my wedding photos or trying to feel beautiful while looking at myself with my natural ginger hair and bright pink chunks in the front. I don’t understand why more time wasn’t taken, or if there wasn’t time they didn’t just tell me that. I don’t understand why a more experienced stylist didn’t do it when they knew it was my wedding day. I don’t understand why the guy who did my hair literally didn’t even speak to me the whole time. Oh, and weirdly at the end he told me to “flat iron it and some of it will, you know, come out”. He knew it didn’t match, he clearly knew the tone was wrong because literally why else would he have said that????? Also what??? Flat iron my hair so the colour will “come out” ????? Once again, just another client for them, but for me, a gut wrenching blow the day before the biggest day of my life. So no, I wouldn’t trust them with your special occasion or big day. Also, if I can find out how to upload photos at some point to update this review I will. Maybe it’s because I’m on mobile idn

NEVER BOOK WITH CURTIS, WORST EXPERIENCE. Let me explain you why. I had an appointment at the moods salon (for the first time) and Curtis was my assigned stylist. I ask him for a blow dry and hair iron. He blow dried my hair wit a square brush (not rond one) and let my hair all frizzy, then he ironed it but just in front and not between the hair. My hair was a mess and i wanted to cry because i hated it. Then i had to go pay and he said it was 78 instead of 55. I refused to pay as i hated it and the owner come see me and this LOVELY women said 65$ and she asked another hairdresser named FREDY to do my hair iron. FREDY did a WONDERFUL JOB. Really perfect, he's a sweetheart and i gave him 20$ tips as i really liked his work. THE ONLU REASON I GIVE 5 STARS it because of the lovely owner and Fredy. If it was only for CURTIS ill give him -5 stars. So if ever you plan on going here please book w Fredy. Have a nice day.
