It's difficult to review places such as salons where most of the experience is with the stylist and not necessarily the business. My experience below was with Shawna, the salon manager. I found her through Instagram as well as from a friend who had mentioned she had been going to her for years. I have had balayage done 5 times in the past so I had an idea of what to expect as well as the cost. I know from experience that it's worth paying a premium for someone who specializes and knows what he/she is doing so cost is not usually a huge factor. I switched stylists from the one I previously had for the last two times as I wanted to find someone closer to home. The booking experience was okay. I sent an email with all the information she requested on her website (details, pics). She sent a short response with her rate (110/hr - slightly higher than she posts on her IG but I was okay with it and quoted about 5-7 hours). I had to follow up to get a booking set up 3 months in the future. As for my actual treatment, it was quite pleasant. The salon is spacious, clean and had COVID protocols in place. All the stylists/employees were friendly. It seemed very well run from the few hours I was there. Her assistant, Leah, was wonderful. She had the same value for hair integrity and thoroughness as Shawna which I very much appreciated. From what I saw on her IG and in person, Shawna seems very willing to mentor and teach other stylists and that was one of the main reasons why I wanted to book with her. So why the 2*? The communication after was left on a sour note. I had not heard of stylists charging by the hour before but I figured since I know my hair and my hair history was also very similar, it would be 4-5 hours (including cut/styling). All stylists that I have had or friends have had charge for the session so that there are no surprises. Shawna charged me for 6 hours ($660+tax) and it was late so I just paid and left. The next day I had thought about it more and it did not sit well with me. I thought about the 6 hours I was there and I would guess about an hour (throughout) wasn't really for my hair but for styling/taking pics for her instagram. I am more than happy to do this and give my time to provide content but not if it's on my own dime and we never made this agreement. I sent an email over telling her that I loved my hair but that was the only thing that didn't sit well. I didn't ask for anything other than a conversation about it. She replied back saying that I should know when coming to an "IG influencer" that pictures/videos are part of the package and that I could have asked to pay before she started taking pics (so when I ask determines how much I pay?) As a baseline, my previous stylist was another "IG influencer" (w/ 450k+ followers). For a very similar process I was charged a package price of $400 incl.tax but I know stylists have different processes so I was prepared to pay slightly more. She became defensive at my question but even agreed that she shouldn't have charged me for that time taking pics/videos. That was the only issue I had as I had praised her for everything else. But she proceeded to say she was insulted and offended and to find another stylist, so she was clearly not in agreement. In the end, she sent me $40 and I left it at that as it didn't seem like we were going to have a professional and constructive discussion. She proceeded with posting multiple Instagram posts of my hair process. Take this info as you need it. I'm only writing this to provide info for others so you know what to expect. Having gone through balayage processes a few times I would suggest finding a stylist who charges for the process and not by hour (she suggested this for me too). I would also suggest getting it cut before or after by someone you trust with your cuts. Shawna and her team do care about your hair and if your time and money isn't a big deal to you, then you probably won't have any major issues. After this, I think I am done with "IG influencers".

The good reveiws got me very excited to cut my hair at this salon. Unfortunately due to my assignments i couldn't go to my appointment. i called the salon 1 hour and 30 minutes before my appointment to reschedule it. They surprised me with keeping $25 deposit because i did not call 4 hours earlier to reschedule my appointment and i have to pay another $25 deposit to reschedule my appointment. I'm very disappointed with this service. You should let the new customer know about your policy before deciding to keep their money. Guys be aware, becouse they won't tell you when u book an appointment !!

Not recommend at all! “Donna” is an unprofessional hair artist that will ruin your hair think twice before going to a independent hair artist and I’m pretty sure this salon is full of them they don’t communicate and they don’t care about damaging your hair not a helpful hair salon at all....

I got the full spa for my feet for $50 I found the girl who did my feet was super kind and did a beautiful job :) However for 50 dollars, the foot massage was very short, along with everything else. The nail polish is also basic. I feel like for 50 dollars it should have more included or longer massages.

I little self care is my mantra especially wen i m low in life n hence i thought of changing my hairstyle. Closest to surrey was this Coquitlam saloon that had many good reviews on google n yelpp.. Drove exact 8 mins from my home n found them so conveniently located. I have been to this area many tImes to watch a movie at cineplex or for playing at zone bowling. Now another reason got me here. Very neat and spacious hair saloon that simply look small from outside. It has huge space behind the front wall of dressers. A full wall of hair products, almost 15 hair stylist chairs, hair steaming lounge chairs, clean washrooms and well done decor. Stylists and everyone else was happy n welcoming. They do offer u ur choice of drink( only non alcoholic). Wifi password can be asked. My hair stylist took her time to walk me through the pictures of hair cuts i was anticipating and finally gave me a good new look. Not only me but she was equally happy with the end results. I would recommend the services here as i found them reasonably priced.

I have been seeing Shawna here at Filomena for 6 years. Before this, I shuffled stylists a few times after always feeling disappointed or mislead after an appointment. Once I found Shawna, my search was over. I will NEVER leave her, she is stuck with me! She is ALWAYS very detailed before my appointment starts and I always know exactly what to expect by the end; I am never left with disappointment or feeling like I did not get "what I asked for". I had Janell as my stylist, and she was able to give me exactly what I was looking for after not having a great experience at a previous salon. She took her time, educated me about what she was doing, and made sure to constantly reference the pictures I had in mind for my hair. She is amazing and I will refer anyone to her! She is has also been available for any questions I have regarding products to help my hair health going forward. It was pretty pricey (I am someone who never does my hair at a salon, so to others it may be normal), but that being said I’m so happy with my hair that I’m happy to pay whatever to make sure it’s done right and that it last long. Their protocols during Covid made me happy, checking body temperature, enforcing masks, as well as cleaning each station immediately so that it is clean and ready to be safely used for the next guest. One thing that I did notice about the facility (nothing to do with my stylist or my experience) was that the floors were dirty around the hair washing station. There was old products running down the sink, the area seemed to be hair collecting underneath the sink, and it looked older than just from that day. Im sure the floors get cleaned daily after closing shift, but that specific area I noticed could use an extra set of eyes at the end of the day. All in all, I LOVED my experience there and came out with perfect hair. I will be going there for all of my future hair needs and telling everyone about Janell and her services there! Thank you!

When I initially reached out to Jess on Instagram, she demonstrated her excellent communication skills. She was quick to respond, asked questions and requested photos so that she could understand exactly what I was going for. At the appointment Jess was very kind, professional and easy to converse with. She is meticulous with her work; frequently checking how things are lifting and checking on the integrity of the hair. You can tell Jess really cares about her work, she mentioned that she had been thinking of what her plan was with my hair over the past three days. Jess has an obvious passion for what she does and is dedicated to doing her best work on every head of hair. She treated my hair with as much care and attention as she would if it were her own. I had Joy as a hair stylist a couple times now and she is great at what she does. 1st time was just for a long cut and colour to maintain the current colour. Was very happy with my service and Joy was a delight. So professional and friendly. I went to see joy again a month later and decided to go light and she did a wonderful job. Was very happy with the end result based on her recommendation of the best way to go darker to lighter. Also changed up my look by going with bangs. It been a month and colour has held up great and still getting complements. Last picture couldn’t get the lighting or style as nice as Joy, but wanted to try to show how well it was holding up. From our consult, to the appointment day, Jess was so friendly, professional, meticulous and diligent every step of the way. She really listened to what I was looking to get out of my time at the salon with her, and since I kept an open mind with how I wanted my hair done, Jess took from her experience and knowledge base to make great recommendations for how she’d colour my hair. I wish I could give them a zero start... 1. They don’t communicate properly they got the worse costumer service ever 2. I do not recommend this hair salon or their hair artists specially Donna she doesn’t even know how to properly use the chemicals she works with all she cares about is the money your going to pay her and not your hair not a honest hair salon at all and their prices don’t match with the service they give you. Choose this hair salon if you want your hair to fall out right front of your eyes... the owner is there for no reason because she doesn’t “speak” for anyone like why do they even have a owner if she can’t even man up to what they’ve done anyways don’t trust the photos you see on their social media’s they only post half of them...STILL can’t get over how they treat their clients such a garbage place

Emma is an excellent stylist with her skills at the very top of the industry, but she's an even better person. I saw Emma just over a week ago for the first time at this new salon, and was not disappointed (not that this was ever in doubt). I had yet again what I told her was probably her best cut and style. It is such a pleasure to see her, she makes her clients feel very well taken care of as she tries very hard to give you the excellent cut your looking for with a top notch experience. I get my hair done by the extremely talented Jasmine. My hair takes a very long time to colour and I am quite particular with the colour I want and she never fails to amaze me with what she can do. She is always so patient, as like I mentioned my hair is not the easiest to deal with at the best of times, but she is always willing to put in the work with a smile on her face. Carla is absolutely amazing. I have been coming to her for balayage this past year and I can confidently say I will not be switching hairstylists ever again! I’ve gone to many pricy salons in Vancouver and no one does a better job then she does. She is gentle, sweet and i always leave with EXACTLY what I wanted. My balayage is always super natural and easy to maintain. Even months after it grows out my hair looks great. The prices are good, and the salon is very clean. I've been in a desperate need for a haircut ever since a bad experience with a previous salon. My hair was severely damaged and Sam did an amazing job! I've never had anyone give me a blow out before and have it come out actually smooth. I was mind blown. Because my hair is naturally wavy and frizzy, a hair dryer would've made it puff up immediately but Sam apparently has magic hands because she made me look soooo good! I had a balayage with NATASHA and I can't say how much I love my new hair color. Just WOW! I had a virgin long very black hair and wanted to get a bronze/beige balayage. After long time searching I found NATASHA on instagram. She was really honest with me and did'nt promise something that might not be possible in one session! When I met her she was so warm, friendly and welcoming. She listens and clearly understands your expectations. She is so fast and efficient while accurate on the placements. Meticulously checked my hair decoloring process. She finished coloring, cut and styling my long hair less than 5 hours and made such a beautiful transformation without being red or yellowish. I have been living in Coquitlam for 4 years now and have been on a serious journey to find the right place and the right stylist. Needless to say after my experience with this salon, I have found my place!! When I entered the salon I was greeted with smiles so I instantly felt welcomed. I was pleased with the COVID protocols (masks, sanitizing area, temperature taken upon entering). I could tell cleaning protocols were followed, and it felt safe. I had my hair done by the lovely Jasmine! She made my hair dreams come to life with giving me exactly what I asked for. While waiting for the colour to develop, she constantly checked in on me and always made sure I was comfortable. Keeping clients in the loop of whats going on with their hair is key for me, and Jasmine let me know the process step by step! Getting your hair coloured for many hours can defeat the relaxing aspect of being pampered, but I can assure you it was an experience I look forward to having again. If you are wanting to have your look freshened up and are tired of going to stylists that just don't get what you want, come here!! You will not be disappointed!

What can I say about Filomena's Salon....hmmmm..... Great location, friendly staff, great products, quality service, knowledgeable, excellent customer service, very reasonable prices, I could go on and on! I've been there for my hair, extensions, gel nails, pedicures, waxing, massage and a facial. I've seen just about everyone that works there for my services and each time was a "wow" moment!!! I just wanted to thank the staff for always taking a great deal of care with me and my family (mum and sister) when they visit from the island and I treat us all to a "spa day" . I love taking advantage of the lounge while we wait for our pedicures....lots of yummy cookies and wide selection of teas! I'll be back!!!!!!

I went to see Joy to get my hair dyed such a beautiful purple. I was really specific in what I wanted - even though it's a fun colour, I still wanted it to look professional and polished. She blew it out of the park!! It looks absolutely amazing. (I say this as someone who is really picky about my hair!!) I think one of my favourite compliments that I got about it was "it looks like purple is just your natural hair colour", which was exactly what I was going for. She really listened to what I wanted, and did an excellent job. Not only that, but she is very kind and attentive. She puts a lot of thought and care into her work. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable in hair salons because it feels like stylists can try to make you feel not pretty enough (presumably to buy more products??) but that was DEFINITELY not the case here. I just felt welcomed. I really enjoyed the experience and am looking forward to going back!

She has been my hair stylist for the last 16 years (Shawna has literally watched me grow up, I'm now 33). Over the years she has given me numerous different amazing looks and styles from all shades of brown, long red mermaid hair with tape-in extensions to blonde, balayage etc. I trust her wholeheartedly, as I know her main concern is always hair integrity and her client's happiness. Her service, technique and passion for hair never falters. She is continuously upgrading her skills with courses - Shawna puts in endless hours! She also teaches and shares her trade secrets - it's no wonder she has a social media cult following. You might be surprised to know that Shawna doesn't enjoy public speaking but her passion for hair pushes her through any discomfort (I think the wine helps too lol). Over the years her prices have changed but that's life. However, Shawna is always transparent and up-front with her fees. You're paying for 30+ years of experience and it's worth every penny. Booking with Shawna is easy, but it's on you to plan ahead. It's no secret her schedule is packed and she books months out. Shawna has a presence like no other and I can't say enough good things about her. If you've ever sat in her chair then you already know she's an amazing person inside and out. Lots of love for this woman!

I got my hair done by jasmine yesterday and she did an incredible job , I got a hair cut and balayage color and she turned my dried out box dyed hair into gorgeous heathy hair . My hair is curly and I’m a brunette naturally and she did a great job layering my hair even though I went super short and was a afraid of my hair being too short but she did such a good job with the cut and layers and colouring that it’s my new fav style. I did a natural looking ash/honey blonde balayage style that basically looks like sun is reflecting on my hair at all times it’s so well blended and natural looking. I researched the salon well in advance and loved the work of all the stylists on Instagram, the salon itself was exceptionally nice and clean and especially now with covid they were extremely clean and constantly kept cleaning the station and would wipe down and sanitize the hair wash seat every time someone got up so I felt very safe as well . Thank you jasmine for my new hair I can’t wait to be back .

She will make sure that you are not leaving your appointment unless your hair meets her (very high) standards, and in the end, make sure that YOU are absolutely content with the work, that of which I have never NOT been. Literally EVERY time I've attended, I've gotten inundated with compliments and "who did my hair?!" I'm a nit picky brunette with thick hair, which she is able to bring to a beautiful tone of blonde that no one else has, while keeping my hair shiny and healthy at the same time. I found Filomena Salon when I was looking for the best places for balayages in the Greater Vancouver Area and saw Nicole's work on their salon's instagram. Because Nicole and her work is so amazing, she was booked out way in advance but it was 1000% worth the wait! Nicole is so passionate and bubbly about hair and at each step went out of her way to explain exactly what she was doing so I felt excited and reassured my hair was in good hands! As for the end result - I've been balayaging/blonding my hair for the last 6 years at all the trendy salons in New Zealand and this is seriously the best my hair's ever looked!! What can I say about Joy. She is AMAZING. I keep getting compliments on my hair where-ever I go! This was my first time getting my hair done by Joy, and from the get go, I had a great experience. I immediately had a great first interaction with her through private messaging to book my appointment, and figuring out estimates. When I met her, she was super friendly, very accommodating, and it just felt like I've already known her for a while. She was super attentive to my hair when pulling all of the darker pieces of my hair to lighten. I wanted to do a rose gold like balayage, and Joy found a great mix and we decided to add a bit of a punch to the colour to make it last longer. I could definitely tell that she wanted me to get the most out of my hair colour, and recommended some great conditioners to maintain the colour, as well as adding a shadow root to make the colour and my roots blend well and grow out nicely. She was also able to do my mom's hair for her birthday, and my mom absolutely LOVED how her brown balayage and hair cut turned out. Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back to Joy, and will be recommending her to all of my friends and co workers.

I love how the girls support one another too; they refer to one another based on their specific areas of specialty. I have seen Ashtyn to enhance my natural blonde, I have seen Nicole to install hair extensions and I have seen Jessica to bring me back to super blonde (she created the look in the photo posted!) and every one of them has been very sweet throughout the process and has left me with beautiful, shiny and healthy hair. All of them have an eye for detail and go the extra mile to make sure you’re happy with the finished product. I get a ton of compliments on my hair and people always ask me where I go to get it done. Joy is a wonderful stylist who gave me a cut and colour. She is very warm and personable and would make any new client feel comfortable. She also gave a great cut to my mom and mother in law, so I can see her skills translate well to a range of different tastes and hair types. Go see Joy!

I've been here twice, saw Emily. Each time she's been on time and welcoming. I get what I ask for. There are other hair dressers there who appear to have great talent as well. I've see some beautiful colors here. I like that it's not far for me, I come from Langley. Nice and bright in there. They serve tea, coffee and lil cookies if you'd like. Oh and they have online booking!
