I saw Lorraine for a (first time) perm, on recommendation from a friend. And, WOW. From the second we met, I knew I was in good hands, and my hesitations melted away instantly. She knows what she is doing 100%. She is confident, quick, and doesn't miss a thing. I swear she could do this with her eyes closed! I have never been to a salon and been this impressed by the talent, skill, price, reasonable product recommendation, and atmosphere. I walked out of there lighter than air, and the compliments have been pouring in. (Lorraine, you're the best!) I'm telling everyone about how great my experience was here. Dont ever change! Xx

Chelsea is amazing. I originally found her on yelp 5 years ago when she owned her salon in White Rock. She sold it and started at a salon in South Surrey, and now she is in Yaletown.. I follow her everywhere she goes! She’s amazing at platinum blonde, tape-in extensions, and blunt bobs (all of my favourite things) and she has also cut/layered many sets of my clip-in hair extensions over the years for my fitness competitions. She has never damaged my hair despite my insistence on being platinum blonde. She has also taught me so much about hair care and styling. I’ve probably been to her 50 times and I highly recommend her.

Ted is amazing. My hair looks like it should be in a magazine when he's finished his work. He is also very efficient and doesn't waste any of your time. Some stylists believe they need to spend extra time on highlights because they are expensive. I've spent up to 4 hours in some salons. Not Ted. He can do highlights with his eyes closed and selects the perfect colors to match your skin tone. AMAZING!!

As a bright blonde in Vancouver, it's important to me that I have a trusted professional taking care of my hair. I'm very picky with my blonde! A few years ago I was on the look-out for a new stylist, and I was so lucky to fall upon Tara-Lynn at Avantgarde. She was so warm and welcoming from the first consultation, and worked with me to get my hair exactly where I wanted it to be. She is a bonafide expert and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my blonde! I am new to Vancouver, and I desperately needed my hair done. I asked my colleague who did her hair because she had the most beautiful highlights, and she recommended AvantGarde in Yaletown. I phoned to book and appointment and the receptionist was extremely helpful. She asked me all sorts of questions about my hair and about what I wanted to have done so that she could decide who to place me with. She said that Emma would be great for me. When I came to the salon a week later for my appointment, I was greeted extremely warmly by the receptionist who notified Emma that I had arrived. Then the owner of the salon, Jon Paul Holt came to the front to greet me and gave me a kiss on both cheeks. Very lovely indeed! Emma came out and greeted me with a huge smile and took me to her station. Essentially, I was overwhelmed by the service of this place. Emma's colour and cut was stunning and it was exactly what I wanted - but I was most pleased by the atmosphere there. There was music, happy stylists, loads of people getting their hair done. Everyone was happy and energetic and I just loved it there. Can't wait for my next appointment!

I was recommended to see Ed by a friend. I had just previously lost most all of my hair from over processing by a stylist I won't mention here. I had one side of my head with some pieces longer still and the back and other side with most of it only a couple inches long. The greys were coming in big time and no one wanted to touch my hair. I needed help big time! I was so impressed with the care and service I was given. I have been 3 times now and every time I have had other stylist jump in to help. These stylist have all clients needs as a number one priority. There is no ego's here. I love this place, this team. Ed, Melissa and Linda, you are all like my angels. I had the same stylist for 15 years and I LOVED my hair. Then she had a baby and I went to someone else two years ago who, after 3 hair cuts TRASHED MY HAIR. Thinned my ALREADY fine hair!! It took a year for my hair to even remotely resemble my old haircut (when my stylist was back). Well, then again she stopped cutting hair so this time (now I'm really scared) I decided maybe if I went to Yaletown I would find someone good. I read all the reviews and this salon had the best ones. I made an apt with Jon Paul (the owner) for a cut (and then had my colour done by his fabulous assistant). I can hardly believe I'm saying this and I didn't think this could ever happen but I love my hair MORE than before. Here I am in a recent pic with my Nephew. Thanks Jon. I am so happy and you're the best! I know, I'm super picky :)

Ted cut my hair for many years before we moved to the Island and since then it has been hit and miss. It seemed every time I was in Vancouver on business it was a Monday and the Salon was closed. Just before Christmas I lucked out. I brought in the picture of the cut I wanted (and had tried to get in Victoria - they came close but it was never quite right). He looked at it for 10sx and and hour later I had the 'exact' cut in the picture, along with a couple of highlights! The real test came the next day when I washed it and it fell into place perfectly. I can not tell you how thrilled I was. He was able to do in a fraction of the time what no one else has been able to do - not only on the Island but at other studios in Vancouver that I have tried. I would have no hesitation in recommending Ted! I now plan my trips to the mainland accordingly.

After hearing horror stories from friends this weekend about their experiences in various salons around the city, I felt compelled to write a review about the AMAZING salon I go to. I have been getting my hair done at Avantgarde for over 5 years and I am ALWAYS happy with my hair and the experience. I go to 2 different stylists, one for my cut and one for my color. Whenever I go in, both stylists and the owner always make a point of coming over to say hi and chat. The girls at the front are awesome too...trying their best to fit me in when I call at the last minute :) The salon is ALWAYS busy and super exciting and upbeat. Seriously...don't waste your time or money anywhere else!

I visit a stylist who is absolutely amazing but I was pretty disappointed in the attitudes of some of the other staff here. I heard them loudly complaining in a very demeaning way about a homeless man who was loitering outside and their pretentious attitudes just did not reflect who I am or who I want to be associated with. I want to continue seeing my stylist but do not like contributing to this sort of attitude/behaviour to others.

I was recommended this salon from a friend after my previous salon closed down during COVID. I wanted my waist length hair cut to above my shoulders so I could donate my hair. Tara-Lynn gave me by far the best hair cut and experience I have ever had at a salon. She asked me so many questions before my cut, not only about the cut, but about how I was going to style and manage it after, which was amazing because she cut it exactly how I wanted it and I couldn't be happier! I cannot recommend Tara-Lynn more highly and I look forward to seeing her again soon! Also the salon itself is beautiful and the front desk staff were all very lovely!
