Before I share my review, I want to be clear that I've always been very easy going about my hair. I'm not someone who goes to salons with pictures of celebrities expecting that I walk out looking the same way. The reality is that hair texture and hair density is different for everyone. I have realistic expectations and I'm also pretty care-free about my hair because I know it'll grow back. I've had super long hair as well as pixie cuts, so I'm not someone who is attached to her hair. As a result, I've never complained about a haircut before.
This is the first time that I have ever walked away from a haircut wanting to cry. I specifically asked that the layers around my face NOT go above my chin, but she cut them up to my cheek bone. Even worse, the layers were all choppy and didn't blend into the rest of my hair. The layers around my face literally look like a child took a pair of scissors and made a horizontal cut into my hair. Aside from the layers around my face, the overall shape of my hair was so unflattering and outdated. The back of my head looks like I have two hair lengths, which means that she did a really poor job of blending in layers.
When the hairdresser asked if the length of my hair was okay, I told her that it was too short - way shorter than I had expected, but she proceeded to cut my hair even shorter. I think she totally misunderstood what I said, but never once asked for clarification. I've had my hair cut in many salons where English is not the first language of the hairdressers; in these experiences, the hairdressers were extra cautious knowing that there was a language barrier. At Apple, the hairdresser was over-confident and just cut away without checking in with me at any stage. This over-confidence led to a horrendous haircut that didn't align with my expectations at all.
The hairdresser asked if I wanted my hair shampooed after the cut, but I suspected that meant I would have to pay more. This is a very unusual practice for me. I've always received shampoo, cut, and style from other salons.
After the cut, she asked if I wanted the ends of my hair curled or rounded. I asked her to give me rounded ends. She was so sloppy that the under layers of my hair were pin straight while the top layers had a kink at the bottom (not rounded at all!) My hair looked like a mess.
I'm sure the hairdresser knew exactly how I felt by the horrified look on my face. I literally wanted to cry when I left. I have never left a salon feeling so unhappy.
