I've had a great experience their every time I go. My hair dresser Hassan has been cutting my hair for over a year now and does an excellent job every time. He takes the time to make everything perfect and never rushes even if I just walk in and he has an appointment coming up. The owner of Avalon is extremely caring and nice as every time my girl friend and I go in he asks if we would like a paper, water or coffee and always takes care of us. They take the time necessary to make sure every one of our visits is a great one. I would recommend Avalon to any one looking for a great hair cut.

Life stress was wrecking havoc for my hair (breaking, shedding) and it was in desperate need of intervention. Although I loved my hair extensions I did not wear them as much as I thought, but I continued to go back for regular conditioning treatments, cuts and colours. I also took in the other services available, all excellent. Since Michael knows exactly how I like to style my hair, we spend our time catching up on life, and other non-hair related matters. I have to say, that after seven years of Avalon, my hair has never been more shiny, full and healthy. The best part is that I have finally been able to grow my hair long, which was my original intention for the hair extensions. As a family run business, I would have to say when it comes to stylists - this place is the 'Top of the (Mom and) Pops'!

I went to see Randa for a first-time face wax and she was wonderful. She did not end up waxing me, but expressed concern because I had never had my face waxed and encouraged me to have it lasered somewhere else as the skin on the face is so sensitive. She was sympathetic and kind, and was willing to give up some business for my well-being. She even booked me in with a place she knew was reputable. I've never had a service done here but five stars for caring about their customers in such a way. I've also heard Randa's prices are good so if I ever need anything else waxed in the future, I won't look anywhere else.

Nuha is hands-down the best hair care specialist I've ever had! I travel from Edmonton every couple month just to see her! I get a haircut and the Keratin Treatment - I was skeptical of the treatment but its so amazing and Nuha handles/ applies it very well. The treatment is everything they claim and more - helps relax the hair a bit, lasts 4-6 months, makes it crazy soft, shiny as heck, and I have like zero split ends no matter how much heat I use. Totally worth it!!! All of the Staff at Avalon are super friendly, I'll never get my hair done anywhere else. Thanks team!!

I visited Avalon hair salon a month ago to colour my hair. The older hairstylist was very nice but didn't listen to me. She said she had been in the hair industry for years so I trusted her. I asked for a subtle brown balayage and she made my hair very blonde. Different sections of my hair were different shades of blonde. When styling my hair she didn't use heat protector on my newly bleached and toned hair and continued to burn parts of my scalp when trying to curl my hair. she then proceeded to charge me $330 when $200 is the set price on their website for balayage. she said the extra charge was a "tip". I had to tone my hair at home after she completed ruined it by bleaching it too light and frying it with heat. I do not recommend going here and definitely will not go again.

Nice staff and very welcoming I called the day before and even tho they were all booked they gave me the appointment with hassan. I asked for short haircut and I already had a short hair grown up from previous cut . I showed him the picture of the cut i wanted maybe 10 times. and at the end the length was shorter than what I asked for and there was not much texture & edge. I was even giving him direction on which toll to use to make a smooth side cut. I checked all the reviews before I go there and I even showed him my previous haircut. long story shout he might be good at giving men short cut but he has not done many for women. If you are looking for pixie or fancy short haircut This is NOT the place you would go to.

Randa has been doing my extensions for years and she is absolutely amazing. The hair she uses is top notch, anyone who knows extensions knows that you can get some pretty low quality hair out there - this is NOT low quality. It's the best on the market. I'm super busy and hate spending hours in a salon - Randa is FAST. Randa is also an incredibly sweet and genuine person and I look forward to seeing her every couple months. Thank you Avalon for doing my hair. The salon followed all hygiene protocols. They were very friendly and gave good suggestions. I went to have my split ends removed and touch up the layers. Instead the curls are accentuated naturally without using much of heat. I think I will go back to this salon again.

This post is very long, but only because I hope they read it and grow from these fixable mistakes. TLDR: - late stylist, no apology or prioritization after the fact - poor communication between assistant and stylist - poor communication from stylist to client - poor tact in product sales - all around, a good hair cut but poor customer service Several things contributed to this score. While Mike did a nice job cutting my hair, and the assistant did a nice job washing my hair, many opportunities for customer service were left to be desired. First, Mike was late for our appointment. While these things happen, the follow-up was poor (as will be described) and it was still a part of my experience. Second, an assistant (who never introduced herself) told me she was going to wash my hair while I waited. I mentioned that I would like him to see my natural curls so he knew what he was getting into. She got awkward and left me standing there as she seemed to need to ask someone more senior than her of that would be okay (rather than saying okay and then letting someone know). This made me feel awkward, so I just let her wash my hair. I shouldn't have, but here we are. The wash was nice. Third, Mike came in and made eye contact and smiled, but had a few errands to do before coming over (I was a first-time client so he probably should have prioritized me and apologized for being late). Forth, once Mike arrived at the chair he grabbed the scissors before asking me what I came in for. I told him and he seemed confident cutting curly hair, but went on to tell me that I probably didn't like my curls and that I should love them (I now knew the assistant did not communicate my curly finish desire, but thought I'd let him finish the cut before the post-cut styling talk). I feel like asking the client what they came in for should be the very first thing you do. Let them know you've got their back (er, hair) in good hands. Also, he kept calling me "Dr.", even though I'm a recent graduate of another medical profession. I did clarify that I am not a doctor, but he insisted. Technically wrong, but just more awkward than anything. Fifth, without communication, he dropped the scissors, passed me off to his young assistant and told her to blow dry my hair mostly straight, but with a curl at the end (I did not ask for this). I told the assistant that I wanted to leave with my natural curls. She told me he was just checking the cut, but when my eyes showed no confidence in that being a fact, she "confirmed" with him by asking if he was going to check the hair afterwards. I don't believe she communicated my desire well and I don't think he understood what I actually wanted. Sixth, following the blow-out I didn't want, Mike came back and started throwing product in my hair (that I didn't ask for or want). At this point I knew the assistant did not communicate my second request and I sat quietly and out of patience. I just wanted to leave. Mike then took off the cape and I was confident he had no idea I wanted to leave with my own curls. After I walked to the desk I could then see the assistant telling him what she should have communicated from the start. He came and tried to backtrack by now telling me that my curls would bounce right back after a shower (not news to any curly girl). Seventh, Mike leaves and the assistant speaks with him quickly... to find out which product he used in my hair to ask if I wanted to buy it. My final contact included a tactless sales push and no apology from her (though much of this could have been avoided if she had the confidence to communicate with him). I see the major issue during this visit being poor communication between an underconfident assistant and an overconfident stylist. There certainly was hands-on skill where it mattered, but customer service was severely lacking.

I got an ashy green/blue balayage done on my very dark and very thick long hair. I've always had difficult hair to handle, and I certainly did not pick and easy colour to copy. Avalon did the most incredible job despite all that. I was there for 4 hours and they treated me with coffee, tea, and cookies. Even when I wasn't totally happy with the first colouring, they brought me back a few days later to tone it again for free. I was there for no more than an hour the next time, but they still brought me tea and cookies again. They treat you so well and do everything they can to make you happy with your hair. Narissa and Nuha both worked on my hair and I would recommend either of them for a tough job because they know what they're doing!

When I put in my own clip in extensions that I bought online they just didn’t look right. You could see that they didn’t blend. Also, they were a bit lighter than my natural hair. I wore them when I walked into Avalon and Mike Nasser and his staff managed to blend them into my natural hair by trimming them and adding some waves with a curler. It looks like an ombré now! I’m very pleased. Thank you. Five star service.

After I moved from Calgary, I actually thought about the plausibility of flying back every 6-12 months to get Mike to fix my haircuts. I've moved from Calgary before COVID got really bad, but if COVID gets in the way, I hope this message gets across that Avalalon Salon is *extremely* talented for the prices they charge, and that I can only wish that I can come back for another visit with Mike. I will also say that the entire business is very hospitable, with entertainment, tea/coffee and snacks on the chance you have to wait for your appointment. If I could give Mike and Randa more than five stars I would! Both my fiance and I went here to prepare for our wedding and couldn't have asked for better service. My fiance has longer hair and has always had trouble with hairdressers taking too much when he tries to clean it up. Mike discussed at length with my fiance his vision for his hair and delivered way beyond our expectations. I went in myself for an Ombre, and they took my reference photo and took into consideration my skin tones, natural hair color, and how to treat my hair in the best way possible. They took such care and time with my hair, while providing exceptionally professional and kind service. While I was there I noticed how kindly they treated all of their customers and it seems that they had several long-term regulars. The haircut I had was great, the people are really nice, but my eyebrows are awful. They're super thin because she waxed the top part and ruined my arch. Also they are incredibly uneven. I cried when I got to my car because of how bad they looked. But the hair service I had here was really amazing, they were really invested in giving me the best hair cut. I think maybe she was trying to do like an old school type of eyebrow wax where they are super thin? I don't know but I'm really just hoping that they grow back.

I got a hair cut from Nuha once. She is so pleasant to talk to, professional, and knowledgeable. She recommended for me to get a keratin treatment for my hair, she told me it would help with the frizziness that my hair had at the time. I was using a lot of different products to help control the frizz, but nothing seemed to work. Today, I took her up on her recommendation and I am very happy with the results of the keratin treatment. Nuha made the entire treatment relaxing and carefree. My hair is smooth, shiny, and finally frizz free all thanks to Nuha.

The worst and most unprofessional experience I've ever had at any establishment. Do not recommend at all. Hassan is one of the rudest people I have encountered. TL;DR had my hair colour ruined here, was refused a refund and asked to come back so they could fix it, and then had them make a scene as I tried explaining what I had wanted done. I was fooled by the good reviews and their website saying they are experts in balayage for "a blended, natural look with no harsh or obvious regrowth lines." I asked for the subtle, dark brown balayage as seen in the second photo and was left with the overbleached, patchy, streaky, and uneven hair in the first photo after ONE WASH. I should have known it was a bad sign when Mike asked me to give Randa a good review. I had also clearly asked them not to bleach the hair that light as it was not necessary to achieve what I had asked for. When calling back I received no apology and had them blame it either on my hair or the shampoo I use, when I have never had such bad results before. It is also evident that the colourist does not know the proper balayage technique from the bleaching in the photo. They refused a refund and since I did not want to pay another $300+ to get this fixed elsewhere, I had to go back the next day. After waiting for 15-20 minutes past the appointment time, my mom asked when it would be starting to have Hassan snap at her saying "we are very busy and had to fit you in". He was clearly already irritated when seating me and acted like he was doing the biggest favour by fixing the terrible job they had done. As I was calmly trying to clearly explain what I had originally asked for and how I have achieved it several times before at other salons, he began to get more irritated saying "I'm the professional". If they were the professionals, I wouldn't be back there in the first place? He continued to have the rudest attitude and would not let me finish, and continued to raise his voice and get even angier, and eventually stormed off saying "f*** ridiculous" at me. Mike then came over and told ME not to make a scene, and Randa said he got angry because I was "making faces"?? I was shocked. It's one thing is to do a poor job in the first place, but it's another to treat your customers poorly when they come back to get it fixed. Not sure what their problem is and where his anger issues came from, but maybe don't take it out on your customers next time. Also don't claim to "continuously educate your stylists on new methods and techniques" as per your website when they clearly don't know what they are doing. Don't waste your money or time here.

In all fairness we did get a full refund and a bottle of leave in conditioner but my hair is absolutely ruined. Ronda seemed to not know what she was doing and other staff members were telling her what to do. I lost track of the amount of times she washed and then blow dried my hair. Back and forth to the sink we went. I wanted to touch up and lighten my current ombre and get a haircut. I left after 6 hours with darker hair and no haircut. She offered me a tea and I got charged $5 for it. She curled my hair even after I said no many times. She ran her fingers through my thick hair while the bleach was in it. She burnt me multiple times with the blow dryer and curling iron. Yes we got a refund but my hair is ruined its soooo fried, not blended well and a multitude of shades that don't mix. None of the shades I wanted. Don't roll your dice on her based on the good reviews.

You know you’re in a great hair salon by the way the hair stylist and specialist handle your hair. They did so with much care and never did I felt they were rushing to get in their next client. It was my first time at Avalon today. My hair was so dry, dull looking, and in need of some care. Randa was kindly able to get me in for an appointment last minute. When I arrived I felt instantly at ease and welcome. Mike and Randa are genuine souls who take great pride in their work. I don't usually write reviews on Google, but I guess this is an exception. I went to Avalon for the first time after COVID as my hairdresser was extremely busy and I needed a hair cut. Mike cut my hair and Noha styled it. As soon as I sat on the chair, Mike asked if I spoke another language and where I was from. When he was cutting my hair he didn't initiate any conversations (ok...no big deal) and every now and then he would go to his co-workers talk to them in a very low voice in his language. In addition he would take short breaks and I could see that he was eating and didn't even wash his hands after! Mike was talking and initiating discussions with all his customers (looked like he knew them) and evidently from previous reviews some customers had positive experience with him. I found it interesting to see how he was selective on who he talks to at the salon. As a customer, especially a new customer, I just needed to feel respected and welcome. If someone doesn't to talk that's fine just make them feel welcome or don't even accept new customers. Noha and Hassan (who wasn't even my stylist) were nice and they made me feel welcome. As Noha finished styling, I did try to provide Mike feedback indicating that Noha is very good, nice and she actually talks. He immediately replied "you're the one who doesn't talk!" and he turned his back to me and went on to his other customer! Instead of, at the very least, giving the customer the chance to be heard. So, it was evident to me that Avalon doesn't care about customers feedback. If they did, they would have tried to seek to understand or respect the customer instead of turning their backs to the customer. I am writing this review because just like everyone else, I have the right to express my own experience at Avalon... which was extremely terrible. They have already shown me that they didn't care about feedback.

As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a sign outlining their protocols, that includes all clients and employees wear a face mask, and that clients are encouraged to sanitize their hands upon entering. Pluses: A family-business environment that makes you feel like you are at your family member's house with a bonus haircut. Randa gave me leftover lunch to take with me after my appointment. Minuses: 1) I was asked repeatedly if I wanted a drink - tea, coffee, water? Initially I just asked for water but was asked again. I then opted for a tea, stating "whatever is easiest please, no sugar" - thinking they have some tea bags in the back? Turned out I got an unsweetened iced tea from Goodearth (next door) with $10 added to my haircut fee. 2) Randa is lovely but she did not spray my hair with heat protection while styling it - that's fine, but she proceeded to use the highest setting that burned my skin. Same with water to wash off the products - it was way too hot. These are little things but they are uncomfortable, and I would have expected them to be better for the amount I ended up paying for what ended up being an average colour and cut. 3) I felt pressured to buy their products when I was leaving. Unnecessary! Overall, a fair experience but I would have preferred no tea or lunch and just a better quality haircut experience.

I positively love this place. After searching for someone who would do a perm for me I lucked into Avalon salon about 9 months ago and Mike gave me the best perm I’ve ever had. When I went in today looking forward to another wonderful perm, Mike told me I could brighten up my colour at the same time. What a fabulous result - I got the curls I wanted and my normally drab colour came alive with the custom colour that Mike mixed up for me. He even tinted my eyebrows to match so it was a total transformation! Many thanks to Mike and the wonderful team at Avalon! I’ll definitely be back.
