I actually used to live in Edmonton where I attended Este Elle Academy of Hair Design, the biggest rival for us was Marvel! I went and had my hair done there often because I kinda regretted my choice of schooling. I'm posting this because I unfortunately couldn't keep attending the school because my family had to move. So I'm actually excited to say that I am planning on calling up the school and here I am 20 yes later wanting to start again. I read some reviews here that are convincing me even more! Where do I sign up?

Done by student/s. Inexpensive, but it'll take a bit of your time. Say 1.5 hours to 2 hours.

Lisa Boulding

Really friendly, professional and clean. I will be going back.

Kira Torrance

I went to get just a trim, it all went well until the hairdresser started to burn my scalp when blowdring my hair I said it was too hot but she couldn't hear me.

After going in to get a hair cut and colour done I can safely say the students themselves are quite talented. However the teachers seem to be failing them. After talking with a couple students and alumni, hearing their stories and complaints it seems the school is more focused on dress code than teaching real salon/barbering skills. For potential future students: For example students must wear all black clothing and have a face of make up. From a business stand point this is understandable, they have to look professional, but limiting the wardrobe of someone who can barely afford their tuition seems harsh. Professionalism is not limited by colour. As for skills I understand every school is known for something it focuses on. “A Jack of all trades is a master of none”. All I ever heard of was how many times they’ve had to practice perms. Perhaps they should broaden they’re horizons and take the time to focus on other subjects such as colouring or men’s cuts. Communication from the school to both students and teachers seems to be a major issue. Students and alumni emailing about simple questions as dates or tips are left unanswered and helpless. Ironic seeing as they’ve payed so much to learn. For customers: Yes, I would recommend getting your hair done here. There are many talented future stylists. However. Keep in mind these are STUDENTS. If you DO NOT have the patience to sit in the chair and wait potentially hours for a simple cut or risk walking out with a shorter cut than intended, perhaps pay the extra to go elsewhere. And don’t forget to tip, what you pay at the front desk goes directly to the school. In short: If you’re thinking of applying here ask around and do some research first. If you’re wanting a cheap haircut, be patient and tip.

I enrolled here and from the moment I got there the school itself is super unorganized. End dates and leave of absences are constantly changing. They push students out who aren’t ready and I can say myself that I should not have been graduated. I haven’t been able to get in touch with the school for help at all even though they told me if I needed anything I was more than welcome to ask. I feel as though I wasted my money and time going to MC. I’ve heard of some of the things the staff go through and that’s probably why nobody ever stays and why it’s understaffed. It’s sad to see my friends who are still in school struggling with the same problems I did. It’s unacceptable how we are treated and how we are trained. We spent a lot of money and time to be there. I know a lot of people went into debt to be there I was one of them and I can’t get an apprenticeship cause of how poorly trained I am. Would not recommend. Spend the extra money and go to Delmar.

Great place to get your hair cut. The prices are great compared to the vast majority of other places. I always go there to get my hair cut.

I went in with my mom this morning at 9 and we just left. Each of us got highlights and a root touch up. Took 4 and a half hours for each of us. That's ridiculous. Secondly, you can barely tell either one of us had a thing done. Highlights are not in the right spots and none are on the top of the head so you cannot see them at all. They were both blonde and it's the worst shade ever. Looks like urine. And lastly, the prices were doubled since we were there the last time (when we had the exact same thing done and it was wonderful). Cost 85 for each of us. Could have had that done at the salon for the same price and half the time. Never again will I go back.

I have mixed feelings about MC college. The salon email doesn’t seem to get answered very promptly (and sometimes not at all.) The students I’ve interacted with there have all been very sweet. The same day I received a gel polish manicure there, the polish started peeling off on multiple nails. (As well, the girl doing my nails had told me the colour I had selected was opaque, but it wasn’t, and I still had to pay for it.) The lady at the desk (on a previous visit) was very short-tempered with the man in front of me. My experience getting my haircut there was fantastic. My hairdresser Trinity Stevens did an incredible job.

This is a great place .....before you go there you should take the time.to understand that the hairstylist are all Students in training ...great things take time....beauty takes time and patience... Besides their are teachers with many years experience... Yes some things to go wrong but always they correct it ...over been there many times I love it

The girl that did my nails was nice and she tried really hard to majestic my nails look good. She noticed the nail polish had clumps and hair/fuzzier in it. Yet she didn't tell me or try to start over. She told her instructor after finishing when her instructor asked about why two of them looked off. She didn't try to fix them after either. I didn't have time to complain or get them redone because I got a phone call saying my daughter was sick at school and needing to be picked up. The gel polish only lasted a couple days and one by one they peeled off in one piece. Quite disappointing actually because I never get my nails done and they couldn't even last one week. This was also the first time I got gel polish on my nails.

Took 2 hours for a simple cut, and HORRIBLE service.

I have always had good quality results from the students but the last time I went there the teacher (long blonde hair) cut my hair instead of having the student do it and she totally botched it! I will never go back because of her. I can't believe a teacher did such a horrible job. The next day I went to have it fixed at a different place and the hairdresser was appauled that an instructor had done such a terrible cut.

I went in around 3 in the afternoon, and was under the impression that I would be getting a proper hair dye job instead of from a box since I wanted blue hair. They told me they didn't have any blue dye, even though I told them on the phone what I was doing, and the full experience lasted about 5 hours. It's been a few weeks and my hair is now basically blonde and green, not even being very blue to begin with and starting off the wrong shade from day one. I had been told the color they were using would be close to what I wanted. Hair cut is very good, and if you want a good hair cut but have a small budget they are the perfect place to go.

I always go for the conditioning treatments. I think $10 to $20, depending on treatment, is very reasonable to get your hair done.

Brook-lynn Bateman

Took my two young daughters today for hair trim & flat-ironing as both of them have curly hair. The girls were very friendly & kept up with my chatty girls. The service was good so was the price. If you are looking for casual hair service nothing too fancy this the place

Been here many times over many years. Last time was the worst. Started out with a call to change my appointment to 15-30 min later. They said many called in sick. I've heard this before. The student who was assigned to my hair cut, was brand new. Did not even know how to hold the scissors and comb. Thank goodness that the instructor stepped in 4 times to show and then eventually do 98% of the job. Students should not be allowed to work on a live person until they master the mannequin head. And then start with a straight cut, not long layers like mine. It was scarry. I'm glad the student only did a couple tiny little snips. If they are short staffed, then the customer should be a start to finish demo, not given to a brand new student who was clearly not remotely ready for real hair. The sinks are old and terribly painful on the neck. With the tuition these places charge their students, it should be a top quality shop. This one has gone downhill over the years. I usually enjoy the wash, but this was a feeble attempt at best. Unsupervised. The student didn't even know how to apply product and dry with a diffuser after the cut was finished. BUT, what I DO LIKE is, that an instructor checks and fixes (in my case does) the cut. I've paid for expensive cuts, look good when I leave the salon. Then when I wash my hair, I find the cut uneven and poor. No one checks it over. Some hair stylists just can't manage long layers. Maybe it's not taught and for enough at the schools.

I went to get my hair dyed and it now looks splotchy there are chunks taken out that are missing dye and I asked to have it half way and she totally destroyed my hair it looks ugly and the blending of the hair is squared and not blended right at all

Deanna Labranche

Super impressed with how well the stylist, Emily, listened to what I wanted. She did an excellent job! Cheryl and Lindsay were very supportive and helpful instructors! The vibe is friendly and there is a definite sense of teamwork. Highly recommend!

Jessica Whittaker

I booked for a set of eyelash extensions so I could have them for my vacation but when i arrived for my appointment they told me that the girls didn't know how to do them yet and that they wouldn't be able to for another month. Disappointed :/

Patty MacNaughton

Have always had great service and results at the spa-wonderful facials and pedicures. Instructor Lori is a true professional.

Jackie Lozinski

I went in yesterday for highlights and a cut and Dominique did an awesome job! She was professional, friendly and attentive. She ensured that an instructor reviewed each step, and asked for guidance when she needed it. Great service at a great price!

Deborah Sorensen

My first time to the college and it was an awesome experience Levi did an awesome job coloring my hair and Tess did an awesome job cutting it. I was so impressed with how the students worked together and supported each other and how they would jump in to assist one another. I would so recommend others to go to this college to get your hair done.
