Mama Afro. The name itself brings some feel of African to you. They have all the lots, from hair supply to skin supply and what not. The customer service is great. However, I feel that the rented spot is too small for the amount of products in the store. In some areas, the products look clumped together. I believe that they should not be afraid to move to a bigger place, the costs should not be so bothersome, customers will come. Also, did I mention that there are lots of bleaching creams in this store. I know that this does not necessarily say anything about the beliefs or values of the owners of the store, but, it reminds me of the dark skin people problems. Enough said.

I love mama's so much! Every time I see her she make a point to acknowledge me. I have been shopping at her stores for about 8 years if not more. I've never once had a problem with any of the staff there at all! They have always helped me and answered any of my questions. Thanks mama for supplying me my hair and beauty needs over the years! Edit: it has been awhile since I've been to this location and boy things sure have changed. I needed some new wigs, and ended up buying two while there. The lady that was there, was not very friendly. Almost seemed bothered that she had to help me, and they didn't have enough staff to help with the volume of people. They need to hire people friendly oriented people. I'll still come here because I've been coming here since mama used to be here often and they always have what I want, but the customer service needs to improve a lot. So for this reason I've changed my 5 stars to 3, strictly because of customer service.

Horrible customer service. As me and my wife walked in the balding man didn’t acknowledge us. He came around and watched us for 2 seconds in the isle. We both said hi to him and he walked away. Once we had our products (over $100) he didn’t even say how much it cost. I had to ask 3 times before he spoke up enough to hear him. While we were paying, a wyt woman walked in and he went out of his way to say hi to her. I think it’s because we are Black Canadian born and not African born, I’m not sure. They clearly give good service to wyt women. We need to get rid of this colourism/slavery mentality if our community wants to succeed. I don’t need to shop with y’all, I can easily order all this stuff online. We were just trying to support our community. Start treating your customers of ALL colour better or you won’t be around much longer. I also have no problem saying this to the mans face when/If i see him again. Fix up.

A guy who I assume is the store owner locked my wife in the store for half an hour coz she walked in there right at 7:30 when the doors were still open and they let her. Only opened for her when she threatened to call the police....what kind of business model is this? They can't deny this coz they know exactly how it went down,never ever giving them a penny!!

But they guy at the cashier is telling us that we have only 4 minutes to buy and go because people are waiting outside. I never been in a place like. What's unfortunate is that there reviews remain to be trash and they dont care to improve. I will be the 1st to say the customer is not always right. However, in this case we could of met in the middle. I was just at the Mama Afro beauty supply downtown. I was looking for hair. The 2 I wanted were not packaged but on display. The lady who states she is not a owner very kindly told me she could sell me the one off the shelf for 5 dollars less. The cost was 74.99. Now, to me? That is not proper customer service or salesmanship. I kindly said... well, no. But how about I buy it now for 70.00 dollars no tax. She was adamant that we could not do this lol. I asked why, she said she will not budge on the 5 dollars as that was a deal. I said that is not a deal to sell something out of the package which h had been shelved for how long collecting dust. I said I feel I am be more fair and we both win, moreso her. She said 74.99 -5 + tax. I said it comes out to be the same price making it so you have lost nothing and I have gained nothing but dusty shelf hair. Nonetheless,we did not agree over my reasonable offer and I left the store empty handed and her without a sale and another customer. Mama Afro, it's either you sell hair out of the bag...making it new or you give a fair discount to hair that has been shelved which is no longer "new" it doesn't matter that no one tried it on. Once out if the bag and shelves NOT NEW. Sincerely ~ Disappointed Customer

Don't go here if u have a stroller as they will tell you to leave it at the front. Well I respect your wishes but respect that I won't leave my kids at the front with you. You have lost a customer. It's much easier to handle kids in a stroller than letting them run to touch everything. I have been here before with a stroller and no issues. My daughter and I went to the store to buy extensions. We have never been there before. She never acknowledged us, or asked if we need assistance. When we were ready to pay. She came to cash us out, she still never said anything or even looked at us. She just said thank you without even looking at us. Funny thing is, I was trying a new store because I didn't like the poor service of another beauty supply store on 107 ave, near 109 street. When you're spending at least $50-$60 dollars a visit, expecting the owner and staff to have decent customer service skills shouldn't be expecting too much. I expect that I will have to keep looking for a business that has better customer service skills, because I refuse to give my money to rude unfriendly businesses, and will make sure to let family and friends know about my experiences.

The customer service is terrible. I’ve only been to this store twice. Last summer, the lady working didn’t acknowledge me at all. The only time she talked to me was when I asked her to find a wig for me to try on. The second time I came, which was over a month ago, the lady there didn’t really acknowledge me. When I asked her where the hand sanitizer was, she rudely said “it’s over there” and pointed to the spot behind me. The staff act as if they’re angry at you for entering their store and giving them business. What is that? The man who went to get a wig for me didn’t seem happy to be helping me! They’re not friendly at all. They’ve really got to step up their customer service. It seems to be a trend among African hair stores, which is quite sad. The one good thing is that they have good selection of products.

The Logic

Not a very bright bunch. I've been coming to this store for about 10 years. Although I travel out of Alberta often I've recently had a son, and now go to school and work making far more money than I had before so I dont have the time to dress up as nicely as I used to, I guess this is the reason why they started profiling me out of no where. They gained more customers but their customer service has gone down the drain, although the husband (man in charge) has always been slightly rude. However, they have few products I cant get anywhere else so I continue to go, but now specifically only for those products... other products I used to pick up there I give that money to other businesses now.

The customer service is terrible, i went to exchange hair which i did not open and they refuse to take it. I bought 2 packs of hair and when i got home one pack was totally different than the other and so i took the one back and they refused to take it. I am annoyed and majorly inconvenienced and they weren't willing to do anything about it. Customer service is terrible. Walmart does exchanges, so does Sally's and images and beauty, and many many more so you have no excuse. I will never send anyone there again ans i definitely will not shop there ever again.
