As a regular at the sports zone I have found the staff to be very knowledgeable. Pricing has never seemed to be off from other locations or stores. They have items that represent the best in the market and other models and styles that fit each individuals needs or budget. The Sports Zone has off priced seasons if your looking for better value. Personally it don't matter what time of year it is I drop into see what they got for my our my kids sports. Would recommend this place for many reasons, but most importantly they are local purveyor sporting goods and there is always something inside of me that says that's the right thing to do. I once again can not believe the great service i received here. I took my son here to get new goalie skates a few weeks back and now back again for new goalie pads. Vince's staff was patient and professional both times and made it effortless to find what we needed. His staff is knowledgeable and friendly and are always greeted when we walk in. This will be the only place I will go to get my kids hockey equipment. I recommend going and seeing the guys there...you wont be disappointed.

Friendly staff, great deals to be had. A few months ago, I did not know that this store existed and now it's become my favourite sports store. The staff is great, if you're just looking around, they leave you alone and if you have any questions they are VERY knowledgeable. Since a lot of people shop merely on price, they are very competitive here as well. I purchased a couple things now that were LOWER priced than the big chain stores. In short, I highly recommend shopping here.

Went for skate sharpening, there were two pairs in front of mine to be done. An hour and ten minutes later they were sharpened, I will never be back. My favourite local sports store. Especially for hockey equipment. The staff is great and knowledgeable. Selection and prices are amazing as well. If something is wrong with your purchase (recall, it breaks etc) they go out of their way to amend it. Can't say enough good things about them. Supports local too! The service here is amazing, the staff are super friendly and will go the extra mile to make sure that you find what you're looking for! The skate sharpening is always quick and high-quality. I was looking for a reasonably priced helmet, I mentioned this to Vince and he helped search the entire store to find me the right product. He took the time to adjust the helmet and add a cage just to be helpful. The best customer service I've experienced in a long time! They also have a huge variety of products, one of the best-stocked stores I've been to! I would 100% recommend this to anyone and will be going back for all my other equipment and skate sharpening needs!

August 11th Update on review below-- the owner (Vince) reached out to me personally to apologize for how the sequence of events was handled. He was courteous and professional and has worked hard to earn my business back. I will return to Sportzone and I encourage others to shop local. I am leaving my review as 1 star because I can't lie - it was a bad shopping experience. However, if you're reading this review you will see that the store made a valiant effort to fix a bad situation - which should help you feel confident shopping here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I can't lie. I've shopped at Sportzone for easily a decade (3 kids in various competitive sports) but today was a exercise in ridiculous frustration. A failed almost 3 hour attempt to buy skates ... I would like to say it was because they were busy (but no) I would like to say it was because we're picky shoppers (but no - we just asked to buy the larger size of the same skates he already owned...). We were juggled as customers over a long period of time, then the sales person "baked" two different size skates, then the blades didn't fit on the skates... In the end... We left with no skates. We were offered many apologies for our time... But no discount, no incentive... Really no reason to ever go back. Sadly I would like to shop local... But I don't have that much time (or patience) to do that anymore.

My brother was in the store one week ago and was purchasing a new hockey stick a employee helped him choose a stick and told him it was on sale so my brother goes up to the counter the employee rings in the sale price and the owner of sports zone says in a very rude tone and voice “there’s no way that stick is that cheap” and he wanted my brother to pay the full price. My brother was very upset and ended up just saying forget it and walked out without getting the stick. I think this is very poor customer service and for the owner to be so rude was no ok we will no longer be shopping at this store.

I was at Sportzone last night to find a new pair of skates for my daughter. I brought in a pair of skates to trade that were almost brand new. The same model pair of skates on the shelf retail for $370. I was only offered $90 for these skates and from looking at the used skate prices on the shelf felt pretty ripped off. I will sell them on Kijiji for more than that easily. After getting my daughters new pair of skates sharpened they were covered in grease marks which I had to mention to the guy to clean. His response was "you mean now?" as he was putting them in the box! Overall terrible experience at Sportzone. I will not be back!

My son has special needs for his skates as his feet are very wide and curved. Vince (owner) was able to look at his feet and special order skates for him and additionally heat molded them to his feet. This changed my son's skating skating experience which is now pain free! This is the only store in KW (that I know of) that has a figure skating section. It's a bit messy in that section, but not to the point where you're tripping over things. I've been to all the other sports stores and sections in Waterloo and each of them have maybe 2-4 models of figure skates, and then an entire wall of hockey skates. The only exception is RIM Park, but not only are they closed on weekends, they charge a premium for the same items. Sports Zone is also one of the only places around here where you can buy used skates and trade in old ones. The staff were very helpful and knowledgable, and I especially liked how they have a retired professional figure skater on their team. The advice they gave me was invaluable, and I left feeling like I knew everything I needed to know about choosing the right equipment and how to use them properly. They go above and beyond when dealing with customers, and they care a lot about helping their customers find the right sports equipment based on their needs. If you're new to skating, I definitely recommend coming here. If you're more experienced and want to increase your skating difficulty, the store offers competitive level skates, custom fitting, and blade mounting. There are sections for other sports, but a good portion of the store is dominated by ice sports.

I visited Sports Zone for the 1st time yesterday to get my son some replacement hockey equipment. I have to say that their customer service is by far excellent. We did not make a purchase as I found that some of their prices on used equipment was by far more expensive than some of the other places I have previously purchased from. I know that they need to price items so that they take into account for items that are sitting on the shelf for a long period of time. It would make more sense for them to be reasonably priced so that more people who have growing kids and need to purchase replacement equipment on an on going basis find it slightly more affordable. Granted that hockey in itself is an expensive sport however more parents would be interested if places like Sports Zone would price the equipment at a more reasonable price. For example we saw a pair of Graf skates used just over $90 when the same pair at Play it Again was selling for 50% less. Just my 2 cents worth. thanks
