I’ve been training with Andrew since November 2018, and in the approximately nine months that we have been together (not like that, but he wishes), I have lost over 40 pounds of body fat, and I have gained muscle mass.
It has been terrible. Just awful.
I mean sure, now I can:
• Tie my shoes without losing my breath;
• Walk up the stairs without calling in a cargo helicopter after the second floor;
• Lift heavier weights than ever before;
• Not hate myself when I see my reflection in a shop window as I walk by on Spring Garden;
• Not afford to eat junk food because I give all of my money to Andrew for personal training – but I made my health a priority and it is paying off;
• I’m a happier person because I like my body more;
• Go to the beach without marine biologists across the globe getting all excited that a new species of amphibious whale has been discovered on the shores of Nova Scotia;
• I feel empowered because I am seeing changes in my body and feel great; and,
• Other positive things.
But, was it really worth having to speak to Andrew everyday: A well-rounded, intelligent, and annoyingly interesting person who makes me workout twice a week? A man who told, and has since proven to me that just doing an insane amount of unsustainable cardio and starving myself wasn’t the best route to long-term weight loss and a healthier lifestyle.
I used to say and think, “I have a terrible metabolism, I just can’t lose any weight – no matter how much I cut my calories!”
Andrew said, “Let’s increase your metabolism. To increase your metabolism, we just need to increase your muscle mass. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn passively – so 24/7 you will be burning more calories. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeasy. Oh and also, we’re going to increase your calories because you are undereating and that is not helping you lose weight – it is actually hindering weight loss.”
So, I did all of the things Andrew told me to do, and I trained with him twice a week.
Annoyingly, it appears that he was right.
I now eat a fairly healthy diet, but I still eat what I want without any guilt, and I am still losing weight. I have an 80 lb weight loss goal, and I am now more than halfway there. (And I spent the first three months eating garbage every day and not putting the work in.)
Andrew is a smart guy, fun to talk to, and a very knowledgeable personal trainer. He is also annoying as F*&%, because he knows what he is talking about. He is passionate about fitness, and leads an active lifestyle. If he is available, hire him as a trainer. If not, there are a ton of awesome personal trainers at the Lower Sackville Goodlife. Talk to Andrew about your needs, and he can help you find the right personal trainer to fit them.
I really am a client of Andrew’s, he did not pay me to write this. Maybe if he had offered to pay, I would have been a bit nicer to him.
