Genesis is the must have gym membership in my opinion and I'm sure I'm backed by majority of members when I say this. Genesis is by far the best gym on the north shore. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Members are awesome never any trouble the owners are outstanding super nice people who talk to you as person not potential profit. They have helped me a great deal and I can say I'm a member for life. If you haven't been give them a visit and see for your self.

Imagine being a boot licking commie that supports mandatory vax cards and imagine thinking this will help 'end' anything. I've cancelled my membership at genesis and plan to buy more equipment for home. It's great I can listen to whatever I want and bench completely naked. Don't think I'll apply for another membership even if they grow a spine and stop complying with the ridiculous Vax card. If it means anything I am double vaxxed but this mandatory passport is too much and I refuse to give any business my money that supports it.

Awesome staff. Lots of equipment with everything you would want. Wish there was more room for laying down mats and doing abs, but they have greatly reduced that, making it awkward to put a mat down anywhere and do abs

For a few years now, I have attend a seniors fitness class at this gym twice a week. Today the owner came into the class and gave us all a Gift Card from Bed Bath and Beyond. Also, I have been told that he donated retiring fitness equipment to various senior centers and Aboriginal schools up North. This is the sort of business owner that I want to support.

Genesis Health club is absolutely discussing. The ladies washroom is burly ever cleaned. When I started going to this gym I was promised a clean change room. I went there for a month and the steam sauna was not cleaned once, even though I asked them every single day to clean it up. there are hair, skin flakes and mold all over the walls. The Janitor works there all day I haven't seen him wipe any of the equipment he sweeps and cleans the mirrors to make sure things look clean but I am sure if the amount of germs and bacteria is measured on the equipment it would be off the charts. I have quit this gym as I was worried to catch a disease like hepatitis from accumulated sweat on the equipment. I have looked for a towel and spray to clean after myself but there aren't any available. Last time I talked to one of the owners about their progress for cleaning the sauna and he said, this is the way it is and it will not get any cleaner and if I don't like it I can leave. You want a old fashion Gym?here you go, welcome to the dark ages. Too bad I have to give one star in order to post this.

I like the Gym facility, but one of their front desks name Ethan showed no respect for the customer! He made us buy a second punch card while me and my physiotherapist were previously using the same punch card. No trust at all, and no quick communication with his manager. I advise the manager to train front desks for customer service. This was May16, 2021.

I've been a member for 8 years. When I first started working out at this gym, it was more than adequate. However, now with the new owners, they have upgraded the gym numerous times. During the pandemic, they renovated the gym and added new equipment. They are working hard to keep the facility clean and safe. I feel like this is one of the best gyms in the lower mainland and I highly recommend this gym

Just wanted to shout out the front desk staff for enforcing the Vaccine Passport policy both days I have been at Genesis since it launched across BC. I wasn’t sure the employees would as there was no announcement of their plans or procedures across their social media platforms or in an email to members. Thank you for enforcing it. I know it’s a divisive subject for some, but it’s nice to know that when I’m coming in to workout I’m working out at a business that cares about ending the pandemic, not just short term financial gain.

I decided to stop by with my business partner to check out your facility today. I was told right away that I couldn't try the facility for the day. My business partner singned up last week for a membership . I decided to tag a long as I would like to get back into fitness again. When I asked to come in for the day I was denied.I honestly forgot my wallet Service at the front desk was not perffesional . Most gyms offer a free week & walk you around the manger would not even come down Good customer service goes a long way. It's not likely I would return or recommend your facility.

I'm not impressed with Genesis. It looks like a older woman trying to look young, not aging gracefully. I'm a new member to the gym and use the woman's only side. On the hottest day of the year the so called air conditioning was at 74 degrees. Half of the cardio machines don't work and I have complained to the front desk a few times and they still don't work. The water fountain also is out of commission and the one in the main gym tastes of metal and hardly works. One of the reasons I joined this gym was for the spinning. I have shown up a multitude of times to find that the class has been canceled when I have been dressed in bike gear and I turned around and have gone home. With Club16 opening you think this gym would be upping their game.....not so. I think I have picked the wrong gym for my needs. It seems they have a very loyal following of hard core weight lifters (after all they are golds gym) and that seems where the bread and butter comes from, and the womans side is just an after thought. I'm voting with my feet and heading to Trevor Linen.

It's a BIG warehouse type gym with lots of free weights and almost every machine you can think of. There aren't too many of these big open floor plan gyms left, so it's refreshing to see. Very friendly staff and the members, for the most part are good too. A few douchebags, but what gym doesn't have their resident "know-it-alls" anyway. Lol! Check it out!!

Great Staff and Contract Trainers :) The gym is well equipped with women-only section available. They offer many protein and other health foods. They're renovating to improve the space too :)

Had a membership here for over a year. In terms of equipment it was actually pretty good. They continued to upgrade the equipment during the entire time I had a membership. Some of the staff I found friendly and some of the staff was incredibly rude. Jordan at the front desk was one of the best. Always said hi and was always very friendly. They then hired a new girl who literally sits on her phone texting the entire time and doesn't even look up when anyone would walk in. She almost would get annoyed if you would ask a question. This gym is more meant for power lifters so if that's for you, you would most likely enjoy it. The owners are always in the gym working out and seem to be friendly. As per a few comments below the bathrooms are pretty bad, they definitely need a facelift. What really rubbed me the wrong way was for one the price point. $40 a month was a bit rediculous along with a few hidden fees they try to charge you for. The little plastic scanning card that attaches to your keys, ya don't lose it or they will charge you a whopping $10. I lost it twice because over a year it simply just falls off and they charged me for it twice and were extremely rude about the situation. A few of the staff and a few of the members in the gym as well were a bit let's say out there, screaming in the gym and pounding their chest after power lifting is a bit distracting. In the end I ended up signing up with the rec center as it's $33 per month and you also get access to the pool, hot tub, steam room, racquet ball courts, open gym area for basketball, ping pong and multiple free classes that you can sign up for at anytime. The gym itself has all the equipment I need as well and if you lose the little plastic thing on your keys it's free to replace it... Go figure... Giving this place 3 stars as it's mediocre at best.

I recently quit this gym when new ownership came in and gave one months notice to double their fee, via email. I replied to the email clearly unhappy as I’ve been going to this gym for years. I get that renovations etc cost money, but why is there a fireplace in the entrance of my gym now? Is that really necessary? What poor business moves. Based on principle, I quit and will gladly pay more than their DOUBLE in a facility that offers much more, and is much cleaner. Word of mouth travels quickly so it’s a shame the owners didn’t reach out when the option was given.

Their machines are 2nd to none with literally thousands of machines including many you can’t find anywhere else. The members are also friendly and chill so it’s a good vibe there. This is my iron church for sure! High recommend, you won’t regret it. Thank me later ????

This COULD be a great gym IF they had any bikes that actually worked in the ladies section. There are 4 and not one of them work, despite mysel and many others letting the front desk know multiple times. I come here to train wort a trainer and would consider a membership and a bett r review if their equipment worked. Also, cleanliness is an issue here. At other gyms, they have spray bottles and towels to clean. Here they do not. I hope that the new management reads this review and addresses this finally. I was compelled to write this review because addressing my concerns directly on multiple occasions has resulted in no action. This gym could easily be a 5* and I’ll certainly change this review if the broken equipment is replaced.

Worst gym ever. I quit when I moved, showed my driver's license showing a new address and was told it wasn't a problem. They continued to charge me and it went to collections after I canceled it on my card. I made a complaint to the Better Business Bureau but I couldn't prove it and just wanted it over so I paid. Absolutely horrible experience. They are awful people to deal with.

Most unhygienic gym facility I have even been in. The bathroom is absolutely disgusting. Would not even touch a thing. The new management obviously hasn’t hired a cleaner and hasn’t been taking care of it. Would not recommend anyone to go here if you value your gym being clean. Very unprofessional and upsetting as this has been a hub for fitness on the north shore for a very long time. Loved this facility before it’s a shame the new management doesn’t know how to keep the place even remotely clean. Will be taking my clients to another facility on the north shore after taking at look inside here.

My experience with this club is it’s for filthy people and should be shut down for lack of cleanliness. The men’s bathroom is disgusting, the urinals haven’t been cleaned in ages and the stench is horrible. As far as for the public health, this business should be closed.

Where do I start?? Rude unprofessional and unqualified staff. Broken down, and un-serviced machines. The place looks like its never been cleaned, the mens washroom is absolutely filthy and unsanitary. I've been coming here for years and I didn't think new owners could actually make an old gym worse but somehow they have accomplished exactly this... They spent all the money on power lifting equipment that only 3 people use, paint and wallpaper/tiles and not any on actually fixing the gym.

I’m a current member and wouldn’t recommend this gym! The equipment is old and tired and much of it needs replacing. The gym is grungy and the men’s changing room is filthy, especially the shower which hasn’t been cleaned in eons. The whole place needs an extreme makeover and a really good clean! :o(

There are gyms within a couple of blocks for half the price or less on Marine Drive (Fit4Less & Planet Fitness) that are less busy, have more parking nearby and have newer equipment. This gym is mainly used by local gangsters and drug dealers. If you don't have two sleeves worth of tattoos, you will feel very of out place here.

This gym had so much potential, but their owners are the inevitable demise of their business. Wade and Roy Baumgartner are what is wrong with Genesis Athletics Club. They are the cheapest gym in the north shore, but that reflects in their equipment and frustrating customer service. The gym barely updates their equipment, but collect an annual $60 maintenance fee. Individuals are not allowed to deadlift or use chalk (not that I do, but some of my friends and brother do). Their employees are awesome and the people using the gym are awesome, but Wade and Roy are horrible gym managers. They yell excessively at multiple customers and use inappropriate language (they drop all types of bombs). They had kicked my brother out for writing a review on yelp, and now they have kicked me out for I have no idea (I'm assuming being affiliated to my brother is against the gym contract). I'm pretty easy going and I tend not to get in anyone's way, but Wade and Roy are irrational and erratic: the worst combination. I understand there are no cheap gyms in the area, but Genesis Athletics Club is the perfect example of a promising business brought down by incapable and short sighted owners. Delbrook gym is the best alternative for those looking for a cheap gym without the hassle of two irritating owners.

Just moved to north van recently and have been looking for a new gym, my girlfriend has trained at genesis gym multiple times for free and told me it's a great place to workout. Same guy at front desk who let her in for free wouldnt even let me go look inside the gym without paying, said theres no type of trial and im not allowed to train without paying $21 drop in fee. So I paid and did really like the gym so I went to sign up and they wouldnt put the drop in fee towards my membership startup. Again facility is great but how am I supposed to know I like the gym without even trying it or having a walkthrough... and wouldnt put my drop in fee towards my membership even though I signed up the very same day...?

I normally don't write reviews, but I will make an exception. I would recommend this gym if your looking for an old school gym. I have been a member here for 10 to 15 years now, when I first started I was promised that my rate of 30 dollars would never go up. After about a year, year and a half my rate jumped up to 45 a month. I went and spoke to Roy who told me that was an introductory offer and that no matter what you were promised the agreement takes president. Then for the last 10 or so years everything has been fine, I have signed a new agreement every 2 years without any problems. Then in 2013 I signed a new agreement and was told everything is the same as usual. The problem was that they changed clause 9 which use to be the clause about how your rate would never go up to a clause that gives them the right to help themselves to an extra payment each year. This extra payment is called the club enhancement fee,( Wade and Roy retirement enhancement fee ) the problem is that the club never gets enhanced. They are very good at posting notices about things that get broken, but they don't get fixed. They even erected a cenotaph to the fallen free weights, which was the joke of the gym for about 6 months.So I didn't read the agreement before I signed it. Bad me, I trusted him. Now here we are again 2 years later and as I stated before I like this gym. I cancelled my membership using all the right forms and by the deadlines. I informed them that I would be paying for a year in advance so that they didn't have access to my bank account. They gave me the very special deal of 680.00 for the year, now if you multiply 45.00 times 12 months you get 540.00. Like I said the SPECIAL DEAL but they told me that included 3 months free. Now I'm not a math major but something just doesn't add up here. I told them that I was willing to pay 540.00 for the year and that's all. So now we finally have an agreement. They told me that the agreement would start July 1st, I said that I have already paid for July, to which I was told that they didn't take a payment in June for July. So the reason for writing this review is because I got my statement for June and of course they did take a payment. I have now closed that account and moved to a different bank, which as you know is a real pain in the ass. I guess this type of shady dealing is just in their DNA, they just can't help themselves. To sum things up if your looking for an old school gym this is the place. Just be very careful to get everything in writing and don't trust the owners at all, they can't be trusted
