I love Sider Strength! It's a newer place tucked away on Front St. in New West. The gym has some really high-end equipment from the UK, which is awesome. The head personal trainer, TJ is great. He advises on nutrition and supplementation, as well as fitness, and specializes in working both with professional athletes as well as people who just want to lose weight and get healthy. Great place.

This is gym is the best mix of personal and independent training. Your programs are written carefully with your goals in mind and you are walked through every new program with a very thorough tutorial week. Once your tutorial is done, you aren't completely left on your own as the coaches are available for questions/demonstrations and will be quick to correct any (potentially) back breaking habits they see. All the of staff here are very encouraging and easy to talk to, which makes all the difference when trying to achieve your workout goals. The workout floor is nicely laid out and open, and the shower/change rooms are well kept and clean. In addition, they also have a Certified Pre- and Postnatal Coach on staff so moms-to-be can feel confident that their workout will make them feel great and be safe for their wee one.

Really enjoy training here. Programs are very carefully thought through based on your objectives and any injuries plus the instruction makes sure you stick to good form throughout. Definitely would recommend to anyone for their focus on results and great community making it a fun event to drop in for a workout not a chore.

Strong Side was my first time being in a directed gym environment, and it'll be hard to top going forward. I went in with a particular goal I wanted to achieve (support strength training for an upcoming half Iron man), and the team put together a program for me that identified and improved on weaknesses in my performance. Every session felt like the kind of challenge that makes for a rewarding workout experience - you'll always walk out feeling better than when you walked in, physically, emotionally, or in most cases, both. The staff are exceptionally personable and know how to work with a variety of clients, whether you're a gym rat looking to to break through your current plateau, or a fitness newbie wanting to make safe, sustainable changes to your physique. All ages and body types are part of the regular clientele, so no matter yours, you'll fit right now. The facility has great hours, is always clean, and is sensibly laid out, with enough equipment to ensure that waiting for a particular station is a rare thing. On-site shower is a plus for those not wanting to share their workout musk with the Skytain, which is right next door. Only downside would be if you're dog allergic/averse, as this is a dog-friendly environment. Top to bottom, this is what anyone looking for hands-on instruction -with flexibility to direct yourself whenever you like- should consider as their first choice in the New West area.

I was introduced to SSC 7 months ago. I had been in pain for 1 year because I developed arthritis in my neck that resulted in all of my muscles spasming down my back, arm and leg on my right side. I couldn't even raise my arm above my head. Within two months of working with them I was pain free. Now, I'm stronger than I have been in years, and I'm down 6 sizes from when I started. They constantly challenge me to do my best. I never could have gotten these results without the ongoing support at SSC. They have been an incredible resource, and I'm looking forward to the next year of continuing to learn and grow.

What happy luck to have found this place. TJ and his team are wonderful and really care about your progress. I was having lots of chronic pain and the training I've done has done much to ameliorate that. My posture has also improved also. TJ is a gifted healer who really helps you understand the mechanics of your own pain and how to improve on it and make it go away. While I am not completely pain free, I am feeling so much better. Don't kid yourself though, because you're going to have to work hard. You'll get stronger and feel a whole lot better. And isn't that the point?

I had a bad shoulder injury that was preventing me from CrossFit and just sport in general. Strong Side really helped me out on this issue and once I gain mobility on my shoulder, they were able to customize my workout into an Olympic Lifting one and I significantly improved on a few of my lifts. All the coaches there are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. If you're a looking for injury prevention, strengthening and gain a bit more education in how your body moves, I would definitely recommend Strong Side.

Strong Side is the first gym I keep going regularly (three times a week!) for the past 6 months! Scheduled new exercises every 4-5 weeks is fun. All trainers are great! I am a slow learner but they always help me when I need. I gave up going to regular gyms many times before because 1) I don't know what to do there, 2) I get bored, and 3) I am lazy. If that reminds you, I highly recommend to try this gym.

Quick background on me: I was never an athletic kid. My greatest childhood achievements came in the form of awards for the Scholastic 'Book It!' reading challenge, which coincidentally came with coupons for free personal pan pizzas. I like to read, and I like to eat. I've never felt comfortable in a gym in my life. I'm chubby, my face flushes beet red at the merest exertion; I've always just felt like I was in everyone's way. Like anyone, I'd vow to change, sign up for memberships or classes, and proceed to drop out at the earliest opportunity, because I had such a crummy time, and without positive reinforcement, motivation tanks. I've always wanted to be strong, though. The ability to pick up heavy things, to hold my own, etc, that has always been important to me, particularly as a not-small woman. I ought to at least use my size to my advantage, right? That's where SSC came into my life--they're in my neighbourhood, and I would walk by, see the powerlifting gear inside and get intimidated. But I combed through their website, and saw philosophies that really reflected all the things that are most important to me--playing to your strengths, focusing on self- improvement over competition, and leading with the idea that all bodies are good bodies, and all bodies can function better with strength training and conditioning--however that may look for you. My free assessment was eye-opening (they were able to point to a number of chronic weak/pain points and explain the lack of functionality contributing) and I ended up signing up on the spot for a three month contract. I'm now almost through that and I'm sure that I'll sign up again. In the time since I've started, I've nearly doubled my lifting capabilities and reduced my chronic piriformis pain to very manageable levels. My mental health has been helped a great deal (especially in these stressful times!) by having a routine that involves fitness and a really wonderful, accepting community of peers and trainers. I really enjoy the programs that they write for me, and my kinesiologist (?) Ishana always takes my suggestions and requests to heart, even if it's for silly things like "I want to impress cute babes when I flex, can you give me arm stuff next month?" Yes, the service is pretty expensive, but it is very much a matter of getting what you pay for. It's more than worth it to me.

6 months ago: I had pretty much given up on exercising because of knee pain from an old injury. When I signed up with strong side, it was more in hope than expectation tbh. Now: seriously considering contacting the Oxford English Dictionary about my glute definition.. ..aaand more importantly, my knee pain issues are significantly reduced. Strong side is a great gym for learning about how your body works, and what parts aren't working. It's a great place for anyone who wants to get somewhere, but doesn't feel like they can do it alone. I love the place, the staff & the community. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I have been attending Strong Side Conditioning for about 10 months now, and happy to say it's a great gym. The coaches are supportive, caring, and knowledgeable! They write programs custom to your fitness goals whether you are just beginning, need a challenge, or something in-between. It is a welcoming environment for everyone, I can't recommend Strong Side enough! As a retired athlete, my trainer, Cindy Lou, has been the best coach for me as I 're-entered' the Strength & Conditioning environment. She brings her passion for fitness, health, and life advice into all of my programs!

If you're looking for the best of one on one and individual training this is the place. No gimmicks here, just solid practical advice and equipment that will get you the results you want (whatever that may be), provided you are prepared to do your part and put in the time. Great trainers. Very positive judgement free work out space. Highly recommend at the risk of one day having the place fill to overflowing.

I came to Strong Side as a complete newbie. I had never worked out in a gym before, and I was pretty intimidated to start. During my first appointment, my trainer, Jess, was approachable, gentle, and encouraging. I really liked the feel of the place so I committed to coming back. I've never regretted it! All the trainers are professional, knowledgeable and kind, striking the right balance between respecting your limits and pushing you to conquer them. This place rocks!

Awesome gym, you can tell right off the bat that great equipment and staff are a priority. They are very knowledgeable and do an excellent job designing a program for your personal goals. It's been the best training experience I've ever had.

After being bed ridden with injuries for 6 months TJ fixed me when no one else could. Doctors told me I had arthritis, and I should give up heavy physical activities... this is not just another average gym where you drop in and do whatever routines you find from the internet. They focus on personal goals and end results, they understand training programs must adapt to the person, not the other way around. All of their trainers have a good knowledge base about the human body, they look for muscle neurological connection problems with manual muscle testing (NKT) and fundamental movement dysfunctions with movement screening similar but not exact same as FMS, before they design a program for you. They can deliver exactly what you need combined with what you want. You get personal training/instructional sessions to learn your program and you will never be left just on your own afterwards. Not that many gyms in Greater Vancouver area operate like this.

I would give 0 stars if i could. I attended active rehab here for my icbc claim. Trainers were nice and skilled but only seemed to really pay much attention for the first month. After switching to another place I had to contact strongside regarding my receipts. During this call I am told that because they switched to a new system during my attendance they no longer have my records on hand or in the system. After expressing that I need to track down all the receipts they emailed me back saying that if I wanted my receipts they would have to bill me for the retrieval of these records of payment. I highly suggest going somewhere more professional and organized as none of the other places I attended had any issue with providing all the receipts and without any "administrative" fee.

Excellent gym. I came in with a really bad knee injury. TJ has designed a program that is helping me strengthen my knew while changing my body composition. Excellent trainers, they will push you, teach you proper form and always have a smile or a high five waiting for you. Worth the investment!

A great place for people who want to train at a gym guided by professionals who know how to get results, in a helpful, non-intimidating manner. SSC has clientele of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels - working towards their own individualized goals. Very clean place and LOVE the towels provided in the showers... no more lugging around musty towels post-workouts!

Two years ago I blew my knee and couldn’t do anything more complicated than walking. After spending crazy amounts of money on physiotherapy where I was given max 15 minutes of supervision in a $40/hr session and I didn’t progress at all, I decided to take a leap and try Strongside. I knew I’d made the right choice as soon as my assessment was done, Strongside has given me my mobility back! I’m not going to lie, if seems expensive at first, but it actually works out to about half what I was paying my physiotherapy clinic and I get triple the direction. Someone is always there to help you, give you direction, or just to chat. All of the staff are super approachable and the other patrons are friendly and game to share equipment as needed. Best of all, the gym is dog friendly, so occasionally you get to pet puppies! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Strongside to anyone from beginner to expert. The programs are made for each individual person and tailored to fit your needs, so you can’t really fail as long as you show up and put in the effort!

When I had to cancel because of unfortunate financial circumstances earlier this year they were so kind and considerate and didn't make me feel like I could never come back when things got better. Now that things are better and I am coming back to strong side everyone is super welcoming and I'm excited to really give it my all and get some results! I love the fact that they do assessments in the beginning and throughout the training process to see where you are and what you specifically can improve on. They don't ignore injuries which is what I appreciate the most because it insures you are doing what's best in the long run - you actually get a chance to improve before hurting yourself again! So happy to be back - I recommend this place to anyone and everyone who wants real coaches with smart programming. (And a fun atmosphere!)

The team at SSC is beyond amazing! They are supportive and always ensuring I am challenging myself to reach the goals I have set for myself. If it wasnt for the staff at SSC I wouldnt have been able to complete the phenomenal work out I did today. I started off struggling with simple dowel movements to work on form and today I was able to do a bar bell back squat of 60kgs which is more then my weight!!!!! Attending SSC is worth the investment in yourself. Strongly recommend this place!!!!
