Great experience at the hive. When I inquired about a one on one session I got a quick response and was set up with a time and trainer within 24hrs. The whole session was great from arrival and explanation of the gym and its operation to especially the lesson with Carly, very thorough and educating, challenging, everything. I highly recommend checking out the hive as soon as you can. Thanks Carly!

Communication is lacking. When I called to ask questions about visiting this location with my child I was given all information except that my child who is 4 would have to wear a mask. They didn't inform me of this until I got to the location and I didn't have a child mask with me. Also when I was there an employee walked in with no mask on

The Hive is an awesome spot whether you're a beginner or a seasoned climber. The space is beautiful and the routes are changed up regularly so it's always a different experience (great value). Best of all, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. You can tell that care is taken to make this gym an inclusive space. If you haven't climbed before, this is a great place to start.

Amazing gym! You don’t have to be an experienced climber at all to have a great time and feel comfortable! Everyone is very supportive and friendly and willing to help give you tips and pointers to improve. You can climb at your own pace and at your own skill level and work your way up. Definitely check this place out if you’re looking for a great workout and you’re even slightly interested in climbing.

Best Climbing in Winnipeg. Winnipeg's first and only bouldering only facility! Clean. Great natural lighting. Climbs for all ages.

The Hive is an amazing bouldering gym in the city. I have been visiting regularly for the past few months and love the variety of routes ranging from beginner to intermediate to difficult. There is really something for all levels which is great. They change the routes often as well, so there’s always something new when you return. The Hive is always spotlessly clean and COVID-friendly. Masks are also mandatory, as per the current Manitoba health orders. They have changing rooms, washrooms, a training area with equipment, lockers and cubbies to store your stuff, massive windows with nice views, tables and chairs for seating, and a small shop with a variety of climbing gear like shoes, hand lotions, clothing, books, chalk, etc. They offer shoe rentals if you don’t have your own. You must use liquid chalk here so make sure to bring some or buy here. The Hive offers courses as well to level up your bouldering which is awesome. When you visit for the first time, the staff give you an introduction to bouldering, how to read the rating system, how to fall properly, etc. The staff are always knowledgeable, friendly and willing to help. I recommend downloading their app called Venga to see all the current routes and plan your projects in advance. You can see photos of the routes and comments and beta from other climbers, as well as, check off the routes you’ve accomplished to keep track of your progress. You will find a variety of climbers with all skill levels here and it’s always great to watch others to learn different techniques. The only downside is the prices are a bit steep. The Hive has other locations in BC so if you have a membership, you can visit those locations as well (included). The punch pass doesn’t really offer much savings from the non-member drop in fee which is a little unfortunate. Still a great gym and I love coming here, and am willing to pay a bit more for the calibre of routes that they have. Highly recommend the Hive to anyone wanting to get into bouldering and to grow as a climber. There are endless opportunities to learn here.

Many routes for beginners and younger people! The staff were very kind and helpful. The holds were very clean and grippy which was nice. I really enjoyed my first climbing experience and look forward to coming back sometime soon!

Our family have been members since opening day and we cannot say enough good words about this facility. It is safe, clean and well staffed. We even had my sons very small birthday party there and all regulations where followed. Great place to take kids and also fun for us "older" adults.

It's not your typical climbing gym, but it's certainly the best in Winnipeg and rivals the best climbing gyms I've been to in Portland and LA. It's queer-friendly, clean, has beautiful natural lighting, and the route-setting is generally solid. If you're used to more typical climbing gyms, it's a quite an adjustment to only be permitted to use liquid chalk—but I asked about this rule and I get why they do it (it's to keep the place cleaner). Also unusual are the "no bare feet" rule and the "hex" ratings for problems, which is really just a loose and condensed version of the V rating system. The highest grade I've climbed is V7 and I generally find the ratings to be suitable. It can be very busy, and it's the most kid-friendly climbing gym I've been to. The route-setters are fond of dynamic moves, and sometimes they set sketchy moves high on the wall that disagree with me—beware, and always be ready to decide that a problem isn't worth it or you might go home bleeding. But that's true at any climbing gym. New note Jan 7, 2022: An important thing to keep in mind about this gym is that the climbing walls are very abrasive. It was one of the first things I noticed when I joined, and at first I thought I liked it. It's typical for the walls at a climbing gym to have a little grit, but these are on another level—just walk up and run your hand along one. I find it very easy to scrape myself on. Sure, it makes smearing easier, but I don't really want smearing to be easier. I won't remove any stars because I still love this gym, but beware, particularly on chips.

My favourite place to boulder in the city! A truly great place to grow as a climber. Very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly staff. The whole team at The Hive has made it SO EASY to stay up to date with their covid protocols by offering clear signage at the facility and detailed posts on social media in a super timely manner, not to mention solutions in place to help all climbers keep each other safe incase you forget your mask at home. Way go team! Y'all are the BEST!

Jack Tinker

Absolutely love this place. It's where I go to unwind and hangout as well as get a solid climb and workout in. The staff are top notch, the community is awesome. I would recommend the Hive Winnipeg to absolutely anyone.

As a complete beginner this place was fantastic! Friendly staff, simple orientation, and basic instruction got us going. All levels of experience and difficulty can be found here. After we tried the beginners, we challenged ourselves on the more difficult climbs. So much fun!

Great place the gym only problem is my friends are losers and won't go with me which is by no means the fault of the establishment I would recommend it 10/10 EDIT: Im still trying but I'm sure I'll get them to go sometime this summer

Our kids had a great time and improved a lot during their climbing lessons here. Also, really like that shoe rentals and membership are included in the lessons. It was nice being able to take them those extra times for practice and so they could show me what they had been learning. Thanks Hive Fitness for a really good experience.

great climbing gym. bouldering grades range from beginner to advanced. my sisters and I had a great time eventhough it was our first time at the gym. their own hex-system of grading boulder problems seem consistent too. we were able to try almost all the level one hex probems. they have differnt wall types from slab to aggressive overhangs. as first timers, we weren't intimidated to jump on some pretty overhung walls as they still set some level one or two hex problem on there. climbing felt relatively safe too as there were lots of down-climb holds available.

Great location, with a great staff????????

A lot of fun.

Fun and challenging. You need to be reasonably fit and coordinated to make the climbs; my wrists still hurt (the good kind) as I'm typing this. Some of the parts rated low on difficulty are quite tricky too, but falling down is half the fun. Clean facility and helpful staff.

Jordan Fisher

Very clean facility undertaking serious precautions to allow you to enjoy the act of climbing safely, and cleanly. Very respectful staff and a completely inviting community of beginners and veterans alike. Great workout and more importantly even more fun. Looking forward to coming back again and again.

Great experience. Took my 11 yr old and friends for the first time about a month ago and have been back every week since then. Very clean, safe and beautiful space. Kid friendly even though there are people of all ages, no need for harness. Lots of climbing areas for all levels.

Nice to see Winnipeg get a new place to climb! Pretty good facility and up to par with the other gyms across Canada. Only down side it is quite pricey (more then gyms I’ve come across in Ottawa and Toronto)

The Hive Winnipeg is a stunning facility. The wall and texture is top shelf, beautiful mats that inspire confidence on hard moves and a huge variety of problems with smart setting. If the Hive is your first climbing experience, it surely won’t be your last. Great job!
