This is a customer service job communication is a important part. I have a positive experience going to Shapes Fitness McPhilips. The staff are nice and professional especially Shubh; she gave us a tour of the facility and answered our questions without rushing even though we arrived near the end of her shift. The facility is clean and the equipments are well maintained. They have good selection of group classes as well. The only reason im giving it a four is because they only have 1 year commitment option. I personally would love to be able to commit for 3mos or 6mos.

Disappointed with mask policy of the gym …i am fully vaccinated moreover manitoba govt making the mask personal choice and they say you can only enter if you are wearing mask where as when you see no body is wearing mask once they enter the exercise area ..so what is the whole point of carrying the mask and wear it just in the entrance area ..is it stopping the covid in any given way

I signed up for the Cyber Monday BOGO sale which was a no brainer for couples. I recently switched from Fit4Less which as of lately has had a lot of broken machines. Shapes has more equipment to utilize which is a huge plus, as well as friendly staff and tons of parking. I am also keen on the sauna and wouldn’t mind taking some classes in the future.

The gym should not be qualified for the services and from my personal experience with them they were not able to explain me the things they have and the staff was gossiping with each other. Even I was standing there they were ignoring me. They are helpless at all

Funny how i was told to wear mask if i want to enter and after entering i can remove it ..i mean what is point of that as well ..disappointed with this policy ….Manitoba govt has lifted the restrictions of mask indoors ..so it should be upto customers whether they want to wear it or not

SHAPES MCPHILLIPS HAS TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND POOR MANAGEMENT I am placing a formal complaint about not receiving my key fob that I had purchased back in January 30, 2020. At the time of purchase, the associate I spoke with said my key fob would be ready within 7 business days and that I would have to pick up my key fob during regular business hours. When I came to pick up my key fob late February of 2020, the associate I spoke with said that they hadn’t placed an order yet for my key fob. Come March 2020 before the global pandemic shut down all businesses, I still haven’t received my key fob. I am confused how there can be any miscommunication after I had purchased a new key fob. I had explained that I lost my key fob and needed to purchase a new one. I do not understand how the key fob wasn’t immediately ordered once I had paid for it. And I do not understand why management blamed me for their mistake. I have never heard of business that blatantly required their customer to place an order for a product/service that they already requested and paid for. My time is very valuable, and for that reason I chose Shapes for the 24/7 convenience. That being said it was very hard for me to make arrangements in my schedule to visit Shapes during regular working hours AND I am frustrated to have not receive the product and services your establishment offers. In addition to that I had made 3 visits and numerous phone calls, and despite that management has made no actions to resolve, compensate, or even provide services that I had paid for. It is now 2021 and the problem still has not been resolved. I should be compensated for my wasted time, efforts, money, membership inactivity and travel accommodation for the inconvenience I endured and dealing poor customer service and incompetent management at your McPhillips facility.

My Membership is almost about to end. I can say my overall experience was super "BAD". Nobody in management and staff knows about the word "professionalism". Bunch of Illiterates working there together, god knows how they are running that place. If I have to share my Experience with Goodlife Garden city and Shapes, Ill give "8" rating to goodlife and "2" to shapes. People, do not waste your money there. Go to "Goodlife Fitness". Way better service , management, and plans. I am going there and telling my 6 buddies to join there after their membership ends here.

Poor management with no sense of customer service. They ask people to write good reviews by offering them free gym bags but in actual their management has no sense of customer service. I guess it wouldn't be appropriate to name a person but their receptionist was so helpful and being nice when you walk in asking for membership but when it comes to cancellation, email 100 times but she would not care about cancellation requests instead pushing you to pay for two years when you didn't even used gym for more than 15 days. She tells me pay for year then you would be out of contract instead they charged me till date though we did not use gym for more than 15 days since I signed up. Worst service and over smart staff that is just trying to rip customer's pocket.

Great facility, incredibly terrible staff and customer service. Since the key fobs for late night access came out, they've been harassing my girlfriend and I to buy one. Even going as far as suspending my girlfriend's gym access UNTIL she buys one, because they are supplying an empty claim that she used the facilities after hours. She definitely did not, and when she asked them to supply security camera footage, they were at a loss for any proof. Don't fall for their scare tactics. They are just trying to push the sales of their key fobs.

My husband and I moved out to the country. We sent Shapes a registered letter to cancel both our memberships. A girl by the name of Tina said we owed no money via email. A few months later she emailed my husband said we owed money and my membership went ro collections. A real joke and a scam this company is terrible and the better business bureau should look into how they take advantage of customers.

Good gym, terrible policies. Good luck cancelling a membership. I was charged a payment after the code red lockdown began???? Hurry up and reinstate 24 hrs, so I can workout in early morning. Edit... Open 24/7 once again! Way better as there are far fewer people in the gym at this time (3 a.m.). Staff reached out to me about some issues I have with this place, so I appreciate that they still take the time to address issues and try to resolve them, will give 5 stars for putting in the effort, thanks!

Very old equipment at Shapes McPhilip. It is extremely frustrating when you are pumped up and all you do is to try to adjust the seats of a machine because it is stuck. There is only one straight bar in the whole gym. I used to be at Pembina branch before and it had way better equipment than McPhilip. I wish they change the equipment and bring some modern equipment. Else, I'll consider changing my gym to Goodlife Fitness

Everyone that works there is great however, Amanda ruined my experience there. Supposedly members were supposed to reactivate there key fobs with the new mandates in place. No email or phone call explaining this. She, tells me this like its common sense and openly communicates that she is “grumpy” because she is still here even after being done her shift at xxhours and that I should be greatful that she was still there. I work in customer service and would never verbalize how unhappy I am to a guest at my workplace. She also spoke to me like I was a child which I did not appreciate.

Very clean environment to workout. Washroom is clean and locker room is well kept. I always see a maintenance worker cleaning the locker room/washroom, changing the small towel you wipe the equipments with and overall clean the gym. Equipments are also well kept and they have lots. I didn't feel that i had to wait for a machine/equipment while working out. There are also a number of classes which is part of your membership. There's a small premium for other 3 special class but i think it's still cheap compared to other gym. Receptionists are amazing and very friendly. We went there on a Sunday and Shubh was more than welcoming and answered our questions even though her shift was already done :) The other receptionist gives you a big smile when you come in as well. Overall, I am having a great experience working out at Shapes-Mcphillips.

I had the worst experience with shapes, save your money and use a quality facility. I had a membership for a year and they made cancelling such an issue. I haven't been able to use the gym for months because I moved out of the province 4 months before my membership year was over (there are no shapes in Ontario). I had been speaking to the person who sold me my membership and head office in Winnipeg months before I even moved to make sure I could cancel it properly and now that the year is over they are still charging me saying the cancellation didn't go through. I had no one tell me how to cancel or put the cancellation in for me. They are so dumb. Refusing a refund and still trying to charge. On top of that when I first made the membership, they wouldn't give me a key fob (that I paid for) for weeks so I couldn't use the gym since I could only work out in the evening at the time. Oh yeah and also the chest press at McPhillips women's section was squeaking for months.. so loud you couldn't use it, and I mentioned it to the girls at the front a few times. Seriously, if you're thinking about signing up, just go with GoodLife or something else instead.

I've been coming to this gym since it opened. Has a good selection of cardio equipment, free weights and machines. Sauna is usually nice and warm. I have never used the shower so I can't comment on that. The locker room floor could be a little bit cleaner...... Quite a bit of hair. It's nice having 24/7 access with the fob.

If you are looking for a gym with some professionalism and good customer servicing, i would definitely not recommend shapes!! Especially at the Mcphilips location, i was treated so very bad by this consultant named "Kianna" just because i signed up at other location!!! I mean what difference does it make for shapes if I sign up from a different branch!! At the end of the day they get my money!! I purposely signed up for a membership which gives me access to all locations and all the classes, and you guys make sure to charge me more for additional locations but don't want to respect me!?!?!?!? How fair is that!?!?!?!? This consultant Kianna has been treating me very bad since my very first visit to shapes!! When i decided to join after my free trail, i purposefully wen to other location to join as i did not want to deal with her at all, now every single time i go to work out at the Mcphilips location, she threatens me and keeps taunting me for joining from other location!?!?!?!? when i asked her about my keyfob she replied "well, you should have got it done from the location you signed up at" and did not even care to check if my keyfob was working for me!!! for which they made me pay $20. Secondly she purposely didn't let me go to the yoga class, considering the fact that i was 10 seconds late to the person who checked in right before me!! That member was given a yoga pass, but not me!!!! which again you guys make me pay extra for!! I'am fed up with her bad treatment and never wanting to go to shapes anymore, can you guys please cancel my membership so i can go to other gyms who would treat me with some respect and let me use the facility that i'am paying for.

Dirtiest change rooms and showers ever. It's not hard to walk though the change rooms once an hour and sweep it clean. People walk in with outdoor shoes on, inadequate front area to remove your shoes, they can't even get a second chair in there to have a seat.

Normally my review would be much higher but twice now (as I'm typing this) there was no one here to open the gym for the morning workout. Yesterday they were twenty minutes late (with a odd 30 people waiting in line) and we re doing it all over again now. What's going on guys? Your better than this. Other wise, great place. Doing the best they can so we can workout. When it's open.

If i could give less than 1 star i would. If you are looking for a gym membership in Winnipeg STAY CLEAR from shapes. You will save yourself so much hassle going to GOODLIFE or really ANY other gym then this poorly managed place. This is coming from a guy who's been a shapes member for over 8 years. The staff working at the facility are decent but its the upper management of this place that is a huge joke. Shapes management will try to stick you with paying for THEIR own mistakes. if you try to reach out to them so they could fix their mistakes it takes WEEKS for them to get back to you. Save yourself the TIME & MONEY and go somewhere else.

This place is rip-off. Costumer service make no sense. I guess money is everything than being decent and professional receptionist is not an option. I will not even explain my experience because is not worth it. Since covid, I have to freeze our membership a few times for they keep charging you without letting you know by at least sending you an email just like other gyms when they reopen. We have to come to freeze it(but you got charged already and the freeze only takes effect on the next billing cycle) And when they closed down and then reopen again they charge you full again. So if the closing down happens a hunderd times you have to come back a 100x too to freeze your membership. I think you have to understand too that some people are still not comfortable going back to the gym even if you reopen. I also asked to cancel our membership since it supposed to end last January, but I was told that it has been extended because you have to close down. But definitely it's not our fault that covid happens why we have to suffer for it, we all struggle because of this. I really wish you could be more lenient with your policies.

One of the cleanest gyms I've joined. Every time I've been here, I've also seen cleaners working. The women's side is usually not too busy. Haven't checked out the men's side yet. Has "child care", but wish the hours were more flexible. Nice clean change rooms, lots of equipment, and a large space. I would recommend this gym Staff are friendly and helpful. I do wish they had a bigger selection of weight machines on the women's side

Signed up allmost 5 years ago for a membership wasn’t told that in order to cancel i would have to write there head office and tell them why I wanna cancel. I was falsely told I could cancel anytime which was false. And top it off they kept trying to pull money out of my account to we’re I would get a NSF and get charged by the bank. I wouldn’t recommend this gym to my worst enemy there full of sh..t and they falsely tell you you can cancel any time which is also a lie so yea this gym would get a zero from me not worth the hassle don’t believe anything there staff say.

July 26, 2021 Update: I have no problem following rules, but it never means tolerate being treated rudely. I have mentioned that during my 2nd visit to the gym Amanda kicked my son and me out at 12pm right after she saw me, and I have booked until 12:30pm. She said I was not booked. But I have booked one day before with Holly (due to the APP had problems on Shape's end I was told to call to book when I tried to book on the APP), and my booking was confirmed. She didn't ask Holly or listened to my explanation; she said, "stay here in the front, don't go anywhere" then she went straight to the child care room and took my son out. After Holly came back and confirmed I was booked, Amanda pretended nothing had happened. After wasted 25 of my time, all I got was, "you have only 5 minutes left anyway." I give 3 stars instead of 1 only because of the other helpful staff, and the place is clean. I will update depend on future visits. July 21, 2021: Some members are allowed to come in with outdoor shoes and some are not allowed. There's discrimination going on at this location. Front desk Amanda had been making up reasons and trying to kick me out almost every time she saw me. When I explain and confront with her, she pretends nothing happened. Today Amanda was FOLLOWING ME in the TOILET and told me, "YOU HAVE ONE MINUTE TO GO PEE." When I started washing my hand, she FOLLOWED again AND WAS WATCHING ME and said, "TIME'S UP GET OUT NOW." This is absolutely DISRESPECTFUL, RUDE AND OFFENSIVE. You got told how long you can pee and be watched in the toilet? How comfortable is that? I deserve a service better than this. If this issue remains unsolved, I need to CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. I will only pay for a gym that treats me with respect. July 23, 2021 Update: The manager told me she had talked to Amanda. I'll see if there's any change in my future visit. The reason I didn't give zero star is for the other helpful staff who work there. However, it only takes one employee to damage the customer's experience & the business's reputation.

Leaving shapes is next to impossible. I've been a member for 3 years and off of contract for 2. I asked to put in my 30 days 3 months ago and I am still being charged. After talking to many people, they had told me that I never signed a 30 day release form. Although, I was never asked to sign one when I told them I'm moving out of the city and need to put in my 30 days. Now shapes is claiming I owe them $100 plus $60 for my "30 days". I do not understand why I need to pay when this was a staffs error.

They increased their prices, I paid for personal training and they took the money out biweekly with my membership. When I asked to pay off lump sums they never gave me an updated balance, the staff there are so uninformed and clueless that when I asked to pay off the remaining balance they quoted me the original amount of the personal training multiple times and after i made them aware of the lump sum payments and biweekly payments, they said they'd have someone call me to give me an update. Weeks later I received no phonecall so I phoned and they finally told me I overpaid. Escalated it to head office and have now been waiting six months for "management to get back to me as they are quite busy". Cancelled my membership ASAP as I would recommend everyone else should do so. Shapes is quick to take money but drags their feet to give it back. Update: Found out the representatives downtown I believe it was Madison and Holly were claiming to be management and Holly was leveraging my money to change my review. She said if I didn't revise my review they wouldn't send me my money which is completely unprofessional. It's only when I mentioned going to the better business services or CBC is when the General Manager contacted me. She was very polite and helpful and was able to courier a cheque within a couple of hours. I've been working in customer service for many years now and problems like this should have been solved at first point of contact but it seems the representatives lack integrity and initiative. The representatives are destroying this business. They asked me to revise my review, here it is.

I have a membership in almost every gym in the city, and quite frankly; this is probably the fartest one from where I live, but I must say I'm always made feel missed and welcomed when I show up. Its worth the drive everytime! The equipments is very well maintained; they're always bringing new machines, new classes and the women's side is never too crowded, so you can always count on a great workout! Definitely recommend!

Very poor communication and very rude , specially Amanda, I was a family membership, from 2016 and when COVID-19 started, we enable to Starr’s again and it’s common you guys have record , who is coming to gym and they took 3 months payments and we emailed, but they still took, when I called to Amanda to cancel our membership, she said we have to give one month notice and we did and after they took two payments, it is rediculus, they don’t realize how we make money, and they took $400 , sorry to I never recommend shapes to anybody

The Shapes McPhillips location is convenient as it is relatively close to my residence so I would rate the accessibility as high. I have also invested in an entrance door fob that grants me access 24/7 which is a plus during the holidays or when I work late shifts. There are a large variety of fitness equipment that are regularly maintained. I find the facility to be very clean as the cleaning staff are properly utilized. I am very impressed with the "Queenax" addition. I participate in the "functional Circuit training" class and find the charged atmosphere to be very energetic and motivational. I consider the Personal Trainers to be very knowledgeable and attentive to my needs. Overall, Shapes is a well reputable fitness facility which provide fantastic services that cater to a wide array of health and fitness needs. I have and will continue to recommend Shapes.

Terrible terrible customer service. Team is always rude specially the guys. They think they are the owners of the place and people come in for free to take their attitude always! Bunch of bad experiences and I have been letting it go. 3 stars are only for hours and equipment.. If it was about the team.. It will be ZERO stars! The guy today 11pm August 12th.. Worst experience ever. I have been paying for membership for more than a year and requested like 10 times to cancel it since I never used it more than a month but they would always come up with something . Highly disappointed with their management. They ask customers to write good review as in return they would be treated with shapes bag. I have membership from Jan 2017 and requested numerous times to cancel it but they would always bring up something with their rules and been ripping customers pocket as I have paying from then till now for something that I haven’t used for more than a month ever since I signed up. Poor management with no sense of customer service.

I was a member here for nearly 4 years, it was a great 5 star experience in the beginning but began to decline. It became more and more apparent that the many (not all) of the staff, ESPECIALLY the manager do not care about their patrons. I have been spoken to extremely rudely, illegally asked for a doctors note pertaining to a medical condition, and then kicked out of the gym. I was made to feel humiliated on the gym floor infront of other members by the manager (who wasn't even on duty at the time). I cannot stress this enough, if you want a good quality gym that cares about its members, this is not the place for you.

I’ve decided to take my time and make a review from the kind of service I’ve experienced through a phone call earlier today. I’ve been with Shapes probably about 2 years now and I didn’t have any concerns about their customer service but today I called them because I have decided to not renew my membership anymore due to personal reasons. I asked the lady who was working at the time if she’s able to help me out and asked what are the steps that’s needed in order for me to end my membership. She then told me that I need to come in to sign a document for her to finalize it. I told her that I wasn’t able to come in because I just had a wrist surgery on my right hand and asked her if she’s able to scan a copy and send it through email in that way I’m able to sign it electronically. She told me that she’s not able to do that for me and told me that I can try using my “left hand” I was surprised by the abrupt comment of hers and asked her that if I’m able to get someone on behalf of me to sign it. She then said that I can try it but she doubt that’s it’s going to be approved, I tried to give her a lot ideas but clearly she’s shutting me down so the last resort that I could think of was to get the phone number of the management but then again she refused to and said that the main office is closed and they’re working from home and have limited access. Not unless I go there and sign they won’t let me end my membership until next year. I might not understand fully where the lady is coming from but she could’ve provided extra help for me.

So I finished paying my memebership in September (which was $330) and apparently they've still been charging me. When I went in to pay it I made sure to tell the lady (who was extremely rude might I add) that I wanted to pay everything off, even the next 3 payments I was supposed to just so I wouldn't have to come back. I emailed them two days ago asking for my payment recipts for the year which they sent me and it didn't have anything down about me paying the $330 at all. It also showed on my payment reciept that they tried to charge me 3 more bi weekly payments of $15 and I have an NSF fee of $25 on top of that because I didn't pay those 3 payments that I wasn't supposed to pay in the first place. Got an email yesterday saying I owed them $100 still, even though I have the receipt showing I've paid everything back. Tried to email them about it with proof of my payment but I haven't gotten anything back after a day. Extremely unprofessional. Go somewhere that actually deserves it, like GoodLife.

I've been a member for over 10 years and have had a great rate honored. I like that I can go to any Shapes gym in the city under the standard memebership. Most recently the gym has I'm a new system for 24 hour use. Machines are kept in working order, the staff are always friendly. I've never had a problem working out on the co-ed side, though all locations have a women's side- and a couple location are women only!

Very Bad experience in these days. I am a member of this gym from almost last 3 years. Now they hired new staff and they don't have any training how to greet members, and even though they don't want to listen problems of members. And top of that there is a change in behavior of manager as well, I don't know she was very nice in the past, but now she has more experience and power and there is major change in her behavior as well and also discrimination is going on. There is excuse for some members they can come inside with shoes, but for some of them they don't allow them. If its happened continuously then I think we have to be noticed to public and we will use electronic media and paper media as well and also try to approach human rights as if its required. So I want to notice to higher authorities to take care of that. Bad behavior is not tolerated at any cost.

Has anyone noticed that Christina’s only job is to comment on the ratings of all shapes locations? I have emailed her as suggested multilple times, she has been extremely unhelpful. Google shapes is a scam. You will be amazed. Don’t sign up before checking out that site. Unbelievable and very sad. Not to mention straight up dirty.
