I live in the area and was excited to actually see a gym in the area nearby. when this place first opened. However the whole experience was disappointing. I was one of the first people who signed up. Gary has an attitude problem, it was evident from the first day I walked in.
The equipment is old and some not working properly, he has bought them from some refurbished places and fixes them on his own. Some of the equipment show heavy usage. This can cause injuries for people directly or indirectly. I see some complaining in the reviews about how he complains about equipment usage and he is responding about safe usage. I am not surprised. Also even during winter times, the heat is not properly on or sparsely on, the equipment are also very cold to touch.
What is even worse is his attitude, he gives a lot of attitude to a lot of people and for someone who is trying to build a customer base and establishing his business, that is surprising (I started and manage / own two client facing companies myself for the past 10 years). He only seems to try and pay a lot of attention and is polite to young good looking women (surprising since his wife runs the place).
I left after a few months, I couldn't put up with his attitude or lack of proper working equipment. I was going to be away for a few weeks (3.5 weeks) and I asked to suspend my membership (like most gyms that I was part of), they refused and took my money as well (refused a refund when I wanted to cancel).
I go to a gym nearby that is run by the city (York Recreation Centre, where all the programs and gym membership is free for someone from this area) and they have new equipment + the staff are amazing.
All the time I was there, I honestly felt that I wasn't welcome, never did I even get a good morning or even a courtesy when Gary shows up.
Being a person who lives nearby, I refuse to promote this place. Plus the signage is like a cheap eyesore done by some grade school kids.
I am sure I will get some sort of canned or justified response to this.
