Esquimalt recreation is a great facility, pool, gym and community centre. Staff there are excellent! The only downside of this space, to me, is the weird security gates they installed a few years ago. Every second time I go there I see someone accidentally setting off the alarm bells (have done this myself and it's so embarrassing), or getting stuck in the gates. Also the array of signs that they've added to explain how the "automated" gate system works is hilarious - it's a case study in a UX failure. Luckily they have permanently disabled part of the security gate so it's a little more user friendly now. But everything else is cool and has a more authentic community centre feel.

Very nice rec center. Esquimalt rec center is a gem. The facilities are clean and relatively new. The pool area has big windows that let in plenty of natural light. The hot tub is spacious, and the lazy river is a relaxing and fun. This is a model rec center in the area.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE AND PEOPLE. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. Total disrespect to their commitment and to their client’s money. I enrolled to a class, they called me the day before to let me know they won’t open the class. Nothing was said about their "right" to cancel class when I paid them, and nothing about it was written in their publication for that class. My attempts to get a refund spanned over more than 2 months. They first claimed they refunded me, I had to proof it to them that they’re wrong, they then refunded me the payment without the tax, and only after I insisted about it, they sent me the reminder. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE AND PEOPLE. STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

A pool lovers dream! Great fitness centre and great classes offered. Love the aquafit! They have a lap pool, a leisure pool (that adults can use too) with a current river, a hottub, steam room, cedar sauna and also a little toddler pool. There are some slides, and some other fun water features. Front desk staff is very friendly.

Love this place. If you are queer or trans then this place is amazing. Unlike Crystal Pool, the staff here are courteous and amazing! There are also several queer groups that have meetups here as well. Always had a good time here.

I have enjoyed many years of working out and swimming in the pool. The staff are great. The equipment is in good shape. The wading pool/river is warm and fun to float around with some noodles. They have classes of all kind to attend for reasonable fee's, and activities seem to change seasonally. It's a good spend of time for not too much money. I did edit my review to focus on the Rec Center rather than the parking lot. I highly recommend the Esquimalt Recreation Center.

I come here for the pool mostly. And I can say it's one of my favourites with my young daughter. The kids pool is shallow and warm, nice for really young children / babies. The larger kids pool has a small slide, river rapids feature and round rapid section as well. The pool is not normally swamped with people which is nice. And has a large hot tub as well overlooking the large kids pool. The lane pool also has a small slide, diving board and lanes. One other huge plus is the drop in times. You can come here daily for an everyone welcome swim. It is really a huge bonus accommodates schedules very well.

Staff are friendly and have done well to coordinate the safe reopening if the weight centre during the COVID19 pandemic. I've never felt the weight centre was crowded and they still allow most pieces if equipment to be used.

We visit this pool often when in Victoria. Changerooms are a bit crowded and it is a disappointment that there is no diving from the diving board. Not sure why that is - only pool I have ever seen that at. I believe they use salt for the pool which is not my preference, but not necessarily a bad thing. The kids love the lazy river thing.

My son, girlfriend and I frequent the pool here often. The water has the lowest levels of chlorine in Victoria, and is perfectly suited for parents with younger children (I find the accessibility and enjoyment age between 2-13). As for the facilities, I've yet to use many others, but the options are limitless, staff friendly and programs frequent, excellent location!

More suited for older kids as the kiddy pool is more for infants and there is no good toddler space. I personally recommend any of the drop in fitness classes especially the drop in Yoga!

Pretty decent gym, at times feels a little small when it is really busy. Overall, good basic array of equipment, 4 squat racks, and bumper plates. Nice crowd of people who both attend, and work at the gym. Sometimes there are "classes" held in the gym space which can be a bit difficult to work around, but overall it's a nice space and good place to work out.

Tips To Level up In Life

The staff are great. However there are signs in the Sauna and Steam room restricting 3/2 users. The users are disobeying and I brought it up 3-4 times to staff to no avail. Even left my email address. No response after 24 hours. Wow. A sign up sheet outside the steam room and Sauna would fix this issue. This is called being proactive. Will follow up with health authority.

I love the Esquimalt pool. Great 11:30 a.m life guards. My only beef is. The same people have gotten into the only water walking lane every 11:30 spot. None of the patrons can figure out how this is happening. They need to rotate those spots during Covid.

The rec center has a good size gym and a great pool. They also offer many types of classes and even group events. On most nights,except for Saturday's, at 9 pm they have two dollar adult swim. The cheap swim goes from 9 to 1030 which gives you plenty of time for swimming and you don't feel rushed to leave the pool. The hot tub is large and always at a good temperature. They also have a steam room and and a sauna.

Esquimalt Rec is our centre of choice for everything! The facility is clean, the staff here is always so friendly and helpful, and we have had nothing but wonderful experiences with swimming lessons, swimming, summer camps, and a wide selection of kids classes such as cooking and sewing and glee club. The play and water park is also wonderful and we often enjoy time there. A side bonus is the Esquimalt Farmers Market which operates indoors during the yucky months and nearby at Memorial Park during the summer months!

I really love this gym. It's clean, spacious, and well maintained. Major props to whoever decided to set up the Rogue Rack - having the space for four squat racks that can become any number of other bar setups is awesome. Very rarely have to wait for equipment. Was pleased to see they recently acquired a hex bar! I don't use machines often but I do find there are a few absent I would like - a prone/lying leg curl machine is one. I can dream!

It's a very clean and modern facility. Has almost everything: a gym, swimming pool, basketball court, a large field. Only thing missing is a skating rink. Also love that it hosts the annual Japanese Cultural Fair.

I went to Esquimalt rrc center to play pickleball. They have a small gym with only two courts. They have a call--in reservation system which limits number of players and ensures that everyone gets in several games. Afterwards, i went for a hot tub and dip in the pool. It's a very good facility with friendly and helpful staff.

Great facility, it is clean and bright. The pool is great place to spend the afternoon. They have a sauna, steam room and hot tub and a decent sized kids area for the family to splash around. The morning aqua fit classes are always packed and have a bubbly instructor bouncing around teaching them. Worth checking out if your looking for a good local rec centre!!!

My daughter's and I went swimming here. It was a great price, the whole building was clean including the change rooms and showers. I do wish it was more infant friendly.. like maybe a change table in the change room and a couple toys in the kiddie pool. But over all was a fun afternoon

My and the Mrs will drive 2 hours from Victoria to hit this place up. That should give you an idea on how impressed we are with the facilities. The slides are enjoyable, and the cold pool is a great contrast to the others in the area. Full wave pool, high board, large sauna and steam room. Can't be beat.

What a great facility! Plenty of equipment in the gym, and it’s very clean. I’ve heard the pool is fantastic, although I haven’t gotten the chance to use that portion of the facility yet. All the staff are super friendly and it’s always a pleasure to go! Parking is also great, haven’t run into an issue (when I have taken my car) finding a parking spot. Great atmosphere. Definitely recommend!

Love this facility and staff but have had an on going issue with the sauna which is never even close to being hot. Nobody uses it and it seems rather pointless having a sauna that barely produces a sweat. The steam room fortunately works well but for only a minute or two out 15. There have been ongoing issues with both of these pool facilities going back before Covid days. Are they trying to save money on heating bills? You would think after a year and a half being shut down they could have figured this out by now.

Swam there a few times and it was great, well maintained and nice and clean. Nice amenities and lovely and helpful staff. One year at Christmas they let dogs swim in the pool. We brought a golden retriever called Lily, she didn’t like it but I loved the spectacle of it. It was magnificent.

My sons are currently taking swimming lessons throught the Esqimalt Recreation Centre and the young teachers that they use are truly great! My wife and I can see how much they love teaching children. The pool is one of the better ones for the region. I only gave it four out of five stars, as it is starting to become a little dirty.(The pool area) The recreational centre has a great gym area and lots to do for the whole family. In the summer outside is the Esquimalt family water park. A must see if you have not been to it yet, plus it is free! A big parking lot but always full.

Dirtiest change rooms in town. And it's not just mud, it's used diapers, feces, personal hygiene products. Watch your head and elbows in the shower, they have sharp metal soap dishes protruding from the wall right at the shower heads. I injured myself badly and reported it years ago, but they remain in place. I also suggested the simple solution of blunting/rounding the metal edges, which doesn't appear to have been attempted. Front desk staff and aquatics staff are awesome though. It's the facility maintenance that brings the place down.
