I have taken my child to other Karate classes before and it was basically let the kids run around for 30 minutes. Excel is totally different and my child loves going. We signed up our two kids approx 2 years ago. Over the two years they have participated at Excel they have grown to be more disciplined, respectful and independent. Involving children in organized sports/ martial arts at a young age will certainly assist in helping them mature and stay focused during their teenage years. Adam and his team have done an outstanding job of navigating through the ever changing restrictions and regulations that Covid has brought forth and always makes sure everyone is comfortable and engaged. I was fortunate enough to have studied martial arts growing up, and used it as an aid to other sports like hockey...it helped me with agility, concentration and mental awareness, but nothing like what you see today with SUN HANG DO. SUN HANG DO promotes MUCH more than just martial arts, it's a LIFESTYE that incorporates a Family/Group/Team type of atmosphere (like a big buddy or MENTOR system involving toddlers to older adults) and it's progression makes it comfortable and affordable...Many martial arts programs or private schools, promote a basic, too generalized, type of strategy and format and I've seen a few friends enroll thier kids in other types of martial arts and they've actually quit not long after, mainly due to boredom or stresses of training...BUT with SHG Dojangs, you'll see that they NOT only incorporate many styles and types of training, they FOCUS on LIFE and Traditions that CAN work for everyone and it's also FUN!!!!...and not to mention the never ending testing, summer camps, yearly tournaments, parades and fund raisers, IT'S ALL DONE PROFESSIONALLY AND PERFECT!!!...We enrolled our son Dec 2010 and watched him change from a quiet, shy, C grade type of student into a confident Honors student not even 3 months later...and today and ever since, he has NOW a tremendous amount of self-confidence, gained and learned RESPECT for himself and to others, and amongst all this, he's become a CONFIDENT, PEER leader at both his recent elementary school and at SUN HANG DO. He is now a Black Belt (going for his second dan this November 2013) and is still improving on his physical and mental skills and he understands that becoming a black belt is, NOW, only the beginning of his REAL martial arts training...He's also starting Middle School, this year, with honors. SHD is NUMBER ONE amongst all the other things he is doing or has done, like Baseball, Basketball, Golf, etc...top of the charts...And i give most of the thanks to ALL the instructers and owners of the SUN HANG DO Dojang CHILLIWACK, THANK YOU! and don't ever stop "keep the fire burning"...Terry Burton

The instructors at Excel Chilliwack are excellent. They are great with children, teens and adults. I've seen how much the kids just love their instructors. They are great role models - strict, but caring and loving. The training area is massive and allows plenty of space for training. Highly recommend.

Love this place ! Absolutely one of the best decisions we ever made for our kids was registering them in Excel Martial Arts. Our kids ( 6yrs & 4yrs old ) joined about a year ago and even through the Covid shut down they were able to keep classes going on Zoom.. Both our kids had a rough start as they were both very nervous and shy but the staff was amazing at helping them with this and now they both really enjoy going. Our kids have become much more confident and as a parent it's amazing seeing this transformation. Our daughter had her 1st belt test yesterday and she still can't stop talking about it. We even drove to show her teachers and class mates her new belt that she earned this morning. Excel Martial Arts also offers Before & After School Daycare programs. We couldn't be happier with this amazing program. Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Gibson and the entire staff! Within 3 months of my 15 year old son starting at Sun Hang, he himself noticed how much more confidence he felt and handled the bullies at school with that confidence and his words even though he had the new skills, he remained sure the issue could be solved peacefully. He's 17 now and almost a black belt!! Mr. Gibson is interested and caring about the all around progress of his students and that appealed to me greatly when choosing the martial arts school I would choose. If you cant drive your oversized van without children riding in it. - Im scared for the safety of your clients kids.... Lady driving wasnt paying attention and her passenger was rude and obnoxious when we shook our head at her driving and almost backing into us .

We are having the most amazing experience here at Chilliwack Excel Martial Arts. My daughter done a lot of different types of activities but this is by far her favourite. Every day she she is having so much fun while learning so many new things and making life long friendships! Teachers are amazing and such good role models for the kids. 100% recommend giving them a try, and the first class is free if you are unsure if this is for you or your kid!

I spent the majority of my childhood in Judo, 2 days a week, for more years than I can count. I was your typical 4 year old boy, with poor attention, lacking discipline and short temper. Excel MMA is excellent at all locations. We have been to both the Abbotsford, and the Chilliwack locations. The programs cover self-defense, grappling, striking, etc., but also respect and discipline. Instruction quality is excellent, and the general level of instructor professionalism and skill is very high. You can trust their programs to lead your children into a broad ranging knowledge of all areas of MMA. 5 stars!

Our son has been attending Sun Hang Do in both the after school program and regular classes for 3 years now. We can not say enough good things about Mr. and Mrs. Gibson and their amazing team. The energy and attention to detail that goes into the instruction in both martial arts and life skills in general is impressive. Excel martial arts really understands child development and how to mix fun and learning. I love the incorporation of music, the way they challenge children and adults alike. A person of ages 4 to 104 can attend and find the right classes for fun, fitness and defense. Attend with your child or not. They answer my questions day and night! I think it’s been the best investment in my child for his brain development, confidence, coordination, self defense and a fun sport! Great value for money. Can not say enough! ????

Great place I learned a lot and I’m currently a blue belt black and there’s really friendly teachers there and my favourite instructor there is Mr.Tass they do five different things and all of them on different days they even do weapons classes with different weapons for level 1 ( white belt to blue belt black) ,level 2 (blue belt black to black belt) and black belt (there are 5 degrees of black belt) it is a great place for martial arts

So grateful to have joined Excel Martial Arts Chilliwack! They run an excellent martial arts program that is well rounded. Not only focusing on the physical but improving mental capabilities as well. My child is always excited to attend class and has learned so much in his time there. I love that he has learned better coordination, concentration, confidence and dedication. I feel the self defense that he learns will benefit him his entire life. It’s also an added bonus that they offer a weapons program as well. He has also gained social skills and has many new awesome friends. The instructors there are very patient, positive and skilled. The facility is large and very clean. Chilliwack Excel Martial Arts (EMA) is a training gym like no other, led by the most personable, skilled, motivating instructors with obvious exceptionable core values in practice. It's a very welcoming place to train in Mixed Martial Arts. Their programming offers a significant source of all areas of balanced wellness for so many. Being a student of EMA the last couple of years has been an incredible and necessary source of fitness, physical, emotional, mental, psychological, and social well-being. How significant a business that provides all of those neccesary 'determinants of health?' As a social worker by profession in the area of mental health counselling, it is all of those things that I need to fill my self-care cup to be able to do the work that I do to support others. I can't do that from a place of being depleted and not having balanced wellness myself which EMA provides for me and by extension to those that I serve.

Chloe is going for belt number 10 today. I am not able to see it, working a long shift. That and physical distancing. Just want to take a minute and say how proud I am of her. Covid hit, but it didn't slow her down. She practiced almost every day at home, online. If you saw her a couple years ago, to where she is now. Her confidence and self esteem has blossomed. We had our 4 year olds birthday party here with 14 of his friends and I have got to say that was the most relaxing party we’ve ever thrown! Not only that but the sense of pride all of us parents felt as we watched our kids listening and participating so well in the lesson was priceless! The kids were all new to martial arts and ALL of them loved it! The staff were able to hold the kids attention the entire time! From an awesome martial arts lesson, to sitting nicely and quietly eating to opening presents! Thank you to Excel and staff for making this birthday so memorable for everyone! He's doing so well the school is telling me by this Dec he will no longer need an IEP!!! We are so proud of our son for all his hard work!!!! WOW you are all truely amazing thank you all for your hard work with these kids your communication with them it's unreal you connect with them on their level it's so great to see!!!
