I used to go here years ago but moved away. I dropped in last year to get a membership and opted to get a punch-pass which is good for 10 visits. (I'm out of town a lot so monthly didn't make sense) This was my experience.
First, I went to high school with Tony who used to own the gym. He's a good guy and I played soccer with him for a bit. When I asked if he still owned the gym when I was there, they were rude and discarded that I knew if as though it was a disadvantage. I thought it was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful.
Second.. the gym is old. It's more than likely the same equipment I used 20 years ago when I used to live here. It is in need of a major face lift... but if you're into the rustic, Rocky II look, this gym has some of that nostalgic charm. They could re-upholster some of the benches though, at the very least.
Last week I went to use one of my punch passes. Now that I'm not working on the mainland anymore, I was looking to upgrade to a proper monthly pass. When I arrived, the door was locked. A couple other gents showed up at the same time and they knocked. After a couple minutes of standing outside in the rain, a young woman approached, unlocked the door and let us in.
The two gents walked through after saying hello (they knew the girl) and I went to swipe my punch pass. I was with a friend so we were going to pay for a drop in as well. The girl at the front simply stated "I'm sorry, we're not accepting new members and we're not taking drop-in's" ... I looked at her with confusion... I actually never asked a question. I said, "I am a member here... well I have a punch pass, didn't it work?" ... She said "No... sorry, it has expired and we're not taking new members or allowing drop in's" ...
Needless to say, I was very frustrated. This valley is in desperate need of a new gym facility. This place is a "rat-hole" in my opinion so I'll use the facilities at the rec centre until a better option comes to town.
I don't normally write bad reviews. I think it's better to speak to the owner first since it's usually a "one-off" when things go wrong. But this place needs work both on the facilities and their customer service.
