Nice gym. Under construction right now so there is a lot of things that need to be organized, hence only 4 stars but hopefully when all finished, equipment put back and ladies only area equipped with better equipment it will be real nice gym.

I don’t know where to start with my review. My time in this gym has been and up and down ride. I signed an expensive 1 year personal training contract. My first and 3rd personal trainer was amazing, we had a set schedule and would train 3-4 times a week. My next trainer would call in sick all the time and we would only train once or twice a week, sometimes we won’t train at all. On top of this, the administration and the managers of the gym are very unreliable. I would get passed around a lot. It’s like as if they are trying to avoid you and take your money. I would call in for a simple request and it would take them WEEKS to answer my inquiry. I’ve had so much headaches and stress just dealing with this place. I was expecting a bit of decency since I’ve been their client for more than a year, but they treat me like garbage. My last payment was due 2 days ago, I called my bank to stop payment because this gym is unresponsive with any communication. My bank immediately blocked this gym and processed me a refund. Although there are a few individuals that make this place great but those who run it are just not "fit" to run this gym. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Take your business elsewhere.

Best prices in Calgary. Really good size gym ad woman's only area so women don't have to feel uncomfortable working out with men around. Juice bar so u can grab a post or pre workout shake if u forgot or were in a rush. Also cheapest daycare in the city for a gym. My son loves it! He actually cries the days he doesn't get to go with me.

I like the feel of this gym. People are here for the right reasons! I signed up a month ago to get back into it after a couple years off and have been happy with hours, staff and other members. They all seem pretty friendly. This is a great gym, but my only gripes are - 1. The Wifi connection issues. it works fine then cuts out. Need this for my music!! 2. The free weight and back area are by far the most popular & busy, yet setup in the smallest room. Better layout of the equipment and this would be 100%. Especially the area by the windows with the free weights and benches. So crowded and tripping on people and things. Other than those easy fixes, I highly recommend this gym.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM!!!!! I followed their "rules" to the letter and cancelled my membership within their "time period" due to a car accident - I was hit by a car while walking on the road - only to find out that they IGNORED the cancellation papers - claiming to have never recieved them - and continued to take payments off my credit card! This Gym is HORRIBLE! They do not care if you are physically able to work out, they don't care one bit for anything but getting your money!!

I think the one thing that sets this gym apart from others is the people. They are friendly and kind. The owner is a gem herself. I have recommended people in my social circle to this gym because I believe it is critical for people to have a place where they can unload their covid life frustrations on weights. Quick note- I think it is absolutely disgusting to see people wishing ill will on this owner. You have no verifiable proof that covid cases came from this particular gym. I WILL ALWAYS SUPPORT THIS GYM!!!

So far I absolutely love this Gym! They have decent hours and great staff who are always friendly and helpful. Especially Sunny. He is a trainer there and is incredible! His passion and enthusiasm is contagious. He is incredibly motivating and you can really tell he honestly cares about his clients. If your looking for a great trainer come here and ask for Sunny, you will not regret it.

The drop-in was only $5 dollars. The gym used to be a powerlifting gym, so you'll be surrounded by more serious goers than your usual commercial gyms. They have all your basic needs for working out. The only reason I dropped the rating is because they aren't taking the safety procotols for covid seriously. I was the only one wearing a facemask. Not even the employees were wearing one. Very few gym members are wiping down the equipments after use.

People are very nice. It can sometimes be busy but my hubby and I always find a machine to use. They've recently made a change in the layout so to me that shows they look to make improvements and freshen things up. My favourite things of this gym are the vibe (members are focused on their workouts and not on you), the women's only area on the second floor, and the sauna (usually empty, so it feels really private). There's always parking and that's something I struggle with in Calgary. Didn't give it 5 stars because it would have to be perfect and immaculate for that score. I miss Amanda! She was always cleaning, always tidying up, always busy doing something. Don't get me wrong... it is NOT dirty. However, there's dust on machines, like the front, bottom part of the treadmills (weekend mornings) and on the grills of the fans on the 2nd floor. Today for the third time I go on a weekend morning and had to watch Operation Smile on one TV and an infomercial on a tool on another. Not an entertaining, nor motivating way to start the workout. The morning guy said he didn't have the remotes to change it to something less depressing (my words, not his). Hope that now that I made him aware of this that he had the initiative to ask for them. Not super important, but I feel that what's on TV and the music playing have an effect on the members. Overall, I definitely recommend.

I have been a member of The Gym since 1996 and have not found another location that offers more value. The service and team at The Gym are what drives a personal and meaningful relationship with myself and other members. There is not another gym I would recommend to anyone regardless of goals or current physical condition, as The Gym is a non-judgmental facility by management or membership.

This gym is good if you are looking for a low rate but its completely filthy.. I don't thing some of the machines have been wiped since it was probably established. I understand cleaning is a tough job but there should be some code of standard when you are running a business with constant machine person contact. I know the monthly rate is around $25. I did a 3 month trail for $140 for 40 dollars a month I expect some clekanliness.

Staff are really nice. Met the owner or one of the owner's and she is superb. I used to go in the morning more than a year ago and never had a problem with the gym being crowded. I love the women's area; I'm not sure if they changed some of their equipments but some of the cardio machines could use an upgrade and the televisions. I'm rating them 2 stars because the $27.26 per month, 3-year contract they have needs improvement. I regret signing it. I had to move and have been living outside the province for over a year and have not visited this gym for a long time. I called them to cancel it with 6months left in the contract and the person I spoke with said it's not a problem and told me to send them a cancellation letter. She didn't mention anything about cancellation fees so my assumption was that it would be cancelled for free because I've already paid them over $800 and didn't want to pay $163.56 to pay off the rest. 3 weeks after I sent the letter, there was no call from them and my monthly payment was still deducted so I called them to follow up on my request and was told I have to pay off the rest of the monthly fee if I want to cancel the contract. It's my fault for signing up with them for an expensive 3 years but hopefully someone can learn from my mistake. Don't sign up with them for over a year unless they have a set cancellation fee that's worth it for you. Some gym have a set $99 cancellation fee no matter when you cancel your contract. My cancellation fee at this gym was $327.12 if I cancelled it a year ago. I learned my lesson the expensive way. I'm sure they meant well but with this contract I felt like they took advantage of me and only wanted the money instead of thinking what's good for their customer. Hopefully they can make proper adjustment to their contracts that is mutually beneficial to them and their customers. Thanks for taking the time to read my review.

Good gym, good people, good price but a serious organization issue. They called my wife 3 times after we canceled our contract to pay late charges which we made sure to pay all. After we got called the 3rd time and went there and payed our last thing they didn't even had paper to give us a copy of recipe. Very bad organization

I love this gym, I am a member here and good life on 130th ave. and like the atmosphere of this gym much more. I pay for the full year up front so I am not required to leave my banking info ( something no other gym offers). The equipment is older but does the job if you put in the time. If the equipment is out of order it eventually gets fixed, this is to be expected when you have people pushing their limits and things get dropped or used incorrectly. I see a lot of people complaining about the staff at this place? I will admit the turn over is a little high but this is Calgary and good people are hard to keep, and I have never been treated rudely as some other reviews have complained about. Ive met a lot of people here and gotten a lot of great tips from the trainers, owner and just random people who workout here. This gym is definitely worth taking a look at if your planning on getting in shape.

I LOVE this gym. The owner is such a sweetheart and you can tell that she is passionate about her business, cares about the customers, and loves fitness! When I first walked into this place I was welcomed, I wasn’t pressured to sign up for a membership once, it’s so nice that they’re genuine and aren’t trying to sell you something constantly. The prices are great and the 5$ drop in is so convenient for when you want to bring a friend to work out !! Even the staff that work here seem happy... at other gyms I’ve gone to everyone seems cranky and stressed out. The clients that work out here are all really nice, it’s a great environment and I love coming here. To the gym owner: thank you so much for creating such a wonderful space for us to come and workout in!

I'm diggin this gym. My boyfriend came across it a little while back after we took some time off and were prior 2 year members at Golds. I got a chance to meet the owner briefly and she's super dope. It was nice seeing her greet other members by name as they were coming in... You can tell she cares. Prices are amazing and I just signed up yesterday. Even though the gym is in the final stage of it's renovations you can still go and do what you need to do. It's not cluttered or messy. As for the atmosphere- way better than what I'm used to. They're not lying when they say it's not an intimidating place. People are nice, they don't sit on their phone for 30 minutes hogging a piece of equipment and even if they did, there's so much equipment there anyway. I'm not one to use the Womens only area, but I will here. It's a good space with adequate equipment for beginner to intermediate members and I'll likely be convincing my Mother to join as well because it will be a good space for her! I feel like we found this hidden gem and I'm excited to be getting back to the gym and glad we're going here!

Cons Filthiest gym I've ever been to Water fountain tastes like clrap and has calcium and buildup around the mouth peice There's almost nothing to sanatize the equipment with after use Washrooms are rugularry soaked and pooled with water. Sinks also have calcium and buildup around them. It stinks in the washroom If the gym is in this state I don't know how they can serve juice from the juice bar. Pros Staff is super kind and helpful Prices are amazing(u get what you pay for no expectations exceeded) Lots more machines and free weights than any other gym I've been to Heavy bags and jiujutsu and women's centre. - Suggestions HIRE A JANITOR or two or THREE Add a bit more effort into the upkeep of the gym. It has soo much potential. So much potential. MORE CLOTHS AND SANITIZER BUCKETS multiply what you have by 10 and you should be close to having as many as are needed.

I would have given five stars if it were not for the these really overbearing couple who deliberately came into our space while training and later complained that we were not social distancing lmao but fortunately that has nothing to do with the establishment.

The management and employees of this gym have no customer service skills what-so-ever, either that or they just don't care about their clientele. I broke two vertebrates in my back last year and was told that - although my contract specifically said they would put my membership on hold in case of serious injury - I had to physically come in and see them in order to qualify.. They wanted me to COME IN to the gym to speak with someone... with TWO BROKEN VERTEBRATES in my back... just so I could put my account on hold. When I was finally able to get out of bed and walk, I did visit the gym and had to fight with management to be compensated for the months I paid for my membership when I obviously couldn't use it. To my surprise after months of fighting I was compensated - but when my payments resumed they had split my payments in two!!!!! They were taking payments out on the 1st AND 15th of the month!!!! Why you ask? I could not tell you, because after 3 weeks of repeated phone calls and messages left with the front counter staff, I still have not received a call back regarding my contract and payment schedule. I have become so frustrated with the lack of customer service and acknowledgment from this gym that I finally called and asked how to cancel my current membership. The girl who answered the phone didn't even inquire as to why I wanted to leave... did not care at all... and then proceeded to tell me I again must come in or snail mail them notice of intent to cancel. Is it not 2014?! What kind of establishment is stuck so far in the stone age that they will not accept interaction with their clientele electronically?? In my opinion - the kind of establishment that will do anything and everything to take your money and make your life very difficult if you ever ask anything of them. If you are looking for a honorable, professional, convenient gym that cares about it's clientele and their needs... THIS GYM IS NOT FOR YOU!

You can actually get in a workout. Equipments is always available. Used to go to Good Life and had to wait around for equipment but not at this place. Get in and get out quickly. Management and staff are courteous and friendly. The trainers are good and accommodating. No real complaints. Prices are excellent and the hours are convenient. Glad I changed from Good Life to The Gym!

The personal trainers are top quality and are driven to help anyone achieve the goals they have. I would give this place 10 starts just based on atmosphere alone. I have trained in gyms from Ontario to British Columbia, THE GYM is second to none. So if you want a great place to train where you feel like a big family, GET DOWN TO THE GYM AND CHECK IT OUT IT WORTH YOUR TIME. Especially if your not into paying more $$$ for a big box gym to decal the walls and make pretend and overreaching safety precautions ( that they don't and cant follow) at all to "attempt" to make them look better then the competition.(which they are failing at). Let's get the money back into the community and to the people like The Gym which has been a part of the Lifting Community in calgary for over 25 years Come down to The join the family you will be happy you stopped by!!!!

Don`t go to this place. Manager(maybe owner) is charging my next year membership fee even I told them I want to cancel my membership. Now I call them and she told me that she don`t wanna argue with me. I notify them I am going to cancel my membership before 30 days which was on Jan 2(January ended on 31) and she charged me next year membership fee. Even she told me she will call to police if I go there for argument. I don`t care what they charge me more, but so disappointed for their attitude. They are really good to member only when they can get the monthly fees. Remember, DO NOT GO AND SIGN THE MEMBERSHIP. As you can see from other one star review, I totally agree with them and I saw lots of disposable syringe in the changing area which were in the disposal safety box. - That makes me feel not safe at all. if someone did drug and got rid of syringe in the gym, that means there is possibility that someone is high in the gym. Why do you wanna take a risk? I didn`t check other gym in Calgary, but it is totally first time to see this - Not happened in the other area.

This place is THE prime example of how to properly remain open while adhering to all public safety restrictions and requirements. It’s very refreshing to see how well they have adapted to the ever changing COVID restrictions. Every staff member on shift is constantly sanitizing any and all surfaces, assuring all 1 on 1 training sessions are done in a safe and professional manner, and maintaining a strict 1 hour time limit for all members. I have been, and will continue to recommend everyone to support this amazing and resilient business. Whether it be safe and professional 1 on 1 training, or even just to purchase a shake or some supplements, I recommend The Gym to absolutely everybody. Anybody out there who has anything bad to say about how The Gym is running clearly has no idea what it truly means to maintain good health. Bravo guys, keep up the good work.

I go to the gym to de-stress and to feel a sense of normalcy, but this place stresses me out even more. This gym seemingly does not understand we are in a pandemic. I was the only one wearing a mask, I understand it's not mandatory in gyms, but the staff don't even wear masks and don't social distance, they go right up to members and start talking, especially the girls that work there. Recently they've posted anti-lockdown posters all over the gym, which is laughable because they don't help their own cause. Members and staff do not social distance, do not wear masks, and cleanliness is not good. I don't want a lockdown either, but if you aren't helping your own cause by not taking proper measures then I can only roll my eyes at those posters. I have started going in the morning because there are less people in the gym. If you go in the afternoon/evening it is packed and I felt very uncomfortable, as someone who believes covid-19 is real. I want to root for this gym, if only they could get their act together, it could be so great, they have a lot of equipment and the price is great, but I guess you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, I can't just throw this membership away right now and start somewhere else, but when my membership is over I definitely won't be renewing it.

I'm from out of town and have done a few drop in's the last few months i've been in town and I really like the place! The manager showed me around and was so welcoming and made me feel so comfortable coming into a new gym. So far every time I have been in to train both her and her young employee (I wish I knew her name to give her a shout out but she's the sweet little blonde one) are always so nice to everyone coming in and both are always running around cleaning and helping members, very different from going to other gyms where they just sit at the front desk starring at the computer. I'm pretty impressed with a gym thats been around this long in an older building to be so tidy. Best customer service I have had in a long time, this definitely not like those big box gyms that don't care about their members. I will be recommending this gym for sure to all my friends who visit Calgary.

After calling some chain brands and getting the runaround over online forms, temporary memberships, and paying for key fobs, we found The Gym. A quick call confirmed no membership was needed, just a reasonable drop in fee. The Gym is spacious, good quality equipment, and wasn’t jam packed. Staff were friendly and made us feel at home. We would highly recommend this business for anyone visiting Calgary.

I’ve been coming here with a friend since summer of 2020 and honestly this has been the best gym I’ve been to by far. The owner Rebecca is always cleaning!! So the place is spotless and truly I’m comfortable walking barefoot if needed. I love a clean gym! She truly care about her guests and had done everything possible to make this place the best space for us. Her prices are very reasonable, lots of good equipment and it’s never super packed which is a bonus. Not to mention this place has such a welcoming atmosphere. I’m a bit newer to this industry and I’m always nervous about going to new gyms and I can honestly say this place was so great. Not only the owner and employees but the other guests all feel so non judgmental and are super friendly. I would way rather be out here supporting a small local business who has pure intentions for her guests over a large company who’s only interested in your money. This place is really worth checking out so you can understand for yourself why it’s working becoming a member.

Very nice gym, has all the essentials, great staff. The owner Rebecca is a very lovely lady. The other night i had locked my keys in my car and was in a hoop without having a spare set. She called AMA for me and since i didnt have any membership she sweet talked them to get her membership used for my car to be opened free of charge (would have been $70). She stayed an hour after she was scheduled to leave to wait for AMA. I recommend this gym for anyone who wants a good deal and a more local, friendly feel than most chain gyms.

Best gym in Calgary, why? Price, people, management, employees, available equipment, and space. Only bummer now more recently is that it's so busy, so its more difficult to use equipment. Really happy for this family though, as my family has been going here for over a decade and has seen the growth over time. Really nice place to be overall.

I wanted to go to a gym that didn't have that commercialized feel and the arrogant lifters and this gym was perfect. When I asked about a trial she gave me a tour, let me lift the first day and never once mentioned prices or was pushy about it like other gyms. People here are so nice, staff and gym-goers, everyone is friendly and they'll give you tips and advice if you ask. The one thing I would suggest is having full length mirrors across the gym, makes it easier to check your form.

The staff are incredibly nice, the manager chelsea is a sweetheart. She greats us every single day with a smile on her face. This gym is old so it would be great to see the owner put some money back into it but most of the equipment is still in decent shape. I see the staff working on things and making sure nothing is out of order and if it is, that its not out of order for longer than a couple hours. Overall its great and I like coming everyday.

i have been going to this gym for about a year now and have been trained on and off with sunny since i started, he has always gone out of his way to make sure i have proper routines and proper understanding as to how to do my work outs. he has helped me come along way since i started at WOW and i am more then pleased with how he is as a personal trainer. if anyone is looking for a good personal trainer i highly suggest signing up with him keep up the good work you make this gym a great place to come work out, as for the gym in general very happy place to be never had an issue with machines not working or the place being dirty. sauna is a perfect place to end your work out and the tanning beds are a great touch makes it a nice one stop for all your gym needs. i would also suggest after your work out to hit up the juice bar amazing shakes great prices and some of the best banana bread I've ever encountered. rebecca the owner is also a great woman to talk with always friendly and there to help plus this gym has an amazing selection of proteins, bcaa's etc for all your supplement needs.

Relaxed atmosphere, incredibly cheap prices, good personal training cost. I've been going to this gym for almost 5 years now and mostly because of the women's private section. The machines need repair and the plave needs a makeover but otherwise an excellent gym for my needs. Never experienced rude staff either.

This gym is pretty good, other then the equipment should be cleaned, today there was no sanitizer in any of the 4 machines i tried, this is very important especially during flu season. There was electric equipment laying on the floors, very dangerous tripping hazzard, and chemicals in the bathroom right in the open ? No one was at the desk when i waited 10min, not even a sign saying " on break" or " be back in 5/10/30 minutes"

I've been a member with the Gym club for about 4 months. For the past month, I've been experiencing accounting issues. I called 2 days in a row to discuss these issues, and was told the owner would get ahold of me to fix the situation. After a couple days of waiting for a response, I decided to come in the gym and talk to somebody in person. The person at the front desk was very helpful. He also guaranteed me that the owner would get a hold of me. After waiting some more, I've decided to stop pursuing this. The owner is a pure bully and instead of going around circles trying to solve my issue, I've decided to write this commentary and let the owner know that you are a bully!

I have been a member for 3 years at "The Gym", and it has been a great experience. The Gym is an extremely affordably priced gym, especially for everything it offers. The contract I signed was fair and I was well aware of any issues that would arise if I would need to cancel out of my membership, as it was clearly explained to me and easy to see in the actual contract. Things I love: -Plenty of free weights- FOUR SQUAT RACKS! (maybe more in the womens only area?) -Friendly staff -Good gym attitude of come in and work but not at all intimidating -Group classes/ Juice bar/ Tanning beds/ Womens only area/ Child Day care/ Saunas -- Lots of perks for an affordable membership -Equipment is repaired in a timely fashion -Affordable A few complaints: -Carpet in the changing rooms (Would much prefer a floor that can be suitably cleaned) -Mens washroom often smells -Cable weight pins go missing / Not enough barbell clamps for all the barbells -Not enough barbells for every squat rack, and bench. -The towels for wiping down the equipment dont get changed often enough, and because The Gym asks that you spray the towel instead of the equipment, the towels get soaked and gross very quickly The Gym is a great place to come if you want to get a real workout in at a great price, and dont mind the equipment and areas to be slightly dated and used.

I have been at this gym for years and in the last couple of months there has been a huge change for the better. the front desk had a lot of useless people working and it was always an unorganized disaster. the new management which is what this gym needed as it used to just be the owner trying to get it all done herself, the bad staff are getting weeded out, the cleanliness is great. it is impressive to see how much the new manager does with cleaning/ keeping her staff on track with it at same time as running the whole show herself things are finally turning around so ill recommend for sure

Great gym, great environment. The cleanness of the gym has improved a lot as well in the last month or so. Great hours, it works great with my schedule. There is also a personal trainer there that it has to be one of the best trainers in the city. I never actually trained with him but I was watching him while doing my cardio and he is always super busy with lots of clients and he is super knowledgeable . He is also willing to help even if you are not his client. I have asked him a few questions and he was very helpful. Unfortunately I forgot his name but he is amazing at what he does. And you don’t see that at othe Big name gyms. Anyways... the gym is great, and I do reccomend. Thank you Sam.

worst gym in Alberta, unfriendly, not willing to work with ya, if you move or change lifestyle. paid $800 for trainer and membership and used it only once for 45 min. trainer was on his phone texting for the entire time of his training me, place was not clean, staff makes you uncomfortable and very pushy. staff would not stop texting and calling asking for money, I then asked to talk to manager and they would not let me or refer me. I ended up paying the hole contract out and going to other gym called fit4less that was only 3 mins away from these guys, with no contracts better and newer machines and tanning bed use for free! also 24 hrs access for only $18 a month....stay away from these crooks. Grrrrrr

Just on a 7 day trial right now, has a pretty cool vibe and good equipment. Would probably say 3 stars if I didn't have headphones though as a bunch of the lads were slamming their little weights, also I might recommend you bring lifting straps if you don't have a strong grip since a bunch of the machines are missing their grips

The gym fitness club is hands down one of the best gyms in Calgary. The gym is fully renovated top to bottom with many things to offer. Juice bar, tanning, showers, saunas, jujitsu, supplement store, girls only, warm up area and even a tattoo shop. When you join the gym it isn’t just a place to workout it’s a family with many lovely people to talk to including staff! They are always so helpful if you need literally anything food, drinks, memberships, tanning, help working out or just a good conversation after a stressful day, their always there for their members. No matter how busy the gym is it is always clean. Staff are always running around cleaning equipment, mirrors, floors and bathrooms. Good vibe, good people and great gym. Definitely go check it out they have amazing prices and deals every week!
