At this moment this business has a score of 3.9 stars over 5 and this score was based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that the average of ratings that it reaches is quite positive, and it is founded on a very large number of scores, so we can conclude that the assessment is quite reliable. If people have bothered to value when they've done well, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually bother to give reviews when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Gym belongs to the category of Gym.
Whose brilliant idea was it to put such a small gym in one of the most busy areas in Calgary??? You cannot go here at anytime without it being packed. Even 4am is busy. No one wants to workout with a bunch of people on top of you. This gym should have been at least 2 floors. So glad I moved out of this area and now go to a much better location.
Great gym with Friendly staff very easy and simple to find layout which is nice as I find lotta gym sometimes tend to be scattered and all over the place a good selection of free weights and barbells and dumbbells the change rooms are great they don’t smell funny how there’s a sauna and showers staff seem great and always willing to help and there’s free parking you just have to buy is out to get it ask the staff if your confused but it is really convenient location being so close to downtown
Great location and great staff. Yoga classes are great here
Tedi is rude and unprofessional and not qualified to be working here.
Clean, organized lots of room, sun and hard work
I went to Zumba class on Sunday and was so boring. I didn't expect that. I can see the difference between Tuesday and Sunday class. Tuesday are the best day to go for Zumba. I hope Stephen Av have a Zumba Class at least once a week. Could be awesome. I give 3 ???? because of Zumba class (Sunday) and towels are really old.
Very modern facility. Lots of millennials here ! Hear us roar
I believe people who give buisnesses a bad review for not following protocols should check themselves. If you are scared stay home!! (KashiaA ) the world needs less Karen's
I've been going to good life fitness gyms for 2 years consistently. Not only are the facilities top notch, but the staff there is always friendly. Also little known fact: you can use your membership to get into 24 hr fitness in the US.
Decent gym but a little on the smaller side. Good location except for parking.
I called and acquired about bringing in a guest with me and was told it was okay, upon arrival they asked him to pay $25 or sign up for a month. When I told them I just talked to someone and they said that wasn't the case. Tedi got all on edge and said that he wasn't the one on the phone. I was also offered to bring guests when I signed up 3 years ago but he said our policy just changed. He wasn't by any means rude but I feel like if you change your policy and half your employees don't know this then this isn't a policy. Also they charged me on and off during covid at least $300 worth of charges. No wonder the 3 stars.
Front desk staff is unfriendly they don't even acknowledge you when you walk in the door they're too busy talking to each other. It's always packed during pre/post work hours. Would not recommend coming during those times unless you're going to a class or only using the cardio machines because it is so packed you cannot even move let alone get a decent sweat going. There definitely are so many useless machines taking up space that could be better used.
I have been training at Goodlife Mount Royal Village for the past two and a half years, it has been a very positive experience. I got into shape with the coaching of a personal trainer. At the moment, I have Nate Shaw as my personal trainer, he is a very good trainer. Mount Royal Village is a good gym with good personal trainers.
Goodlife is a great gym to go to for people looking at getting or staying in shape. The facilities are clean and there’s usually enough equipment for everyone without much of a wait. The staff is friendly and willing to help if you ask them. They also have other amenities like massage chairs and showers. I would definitely recommend Goodlife if you’re looking for a gym.
New equipment. Not enough incline bb benchs though.
Nice staff, clean and easy to manoeuver around the gym. Wish it was a tiny bit bigger but love it!
Nice and clean gym, good setup, and welcoming staff. Only negative to this location is that they have the max temp on the men’s sauna set to 90 Fahrenheit, when it should be in the 160’s.
This is a really good place to go ♡ I enjoy my regular visits. The staff are nice. They have massage chairs too lol
2.5!! This gym needs to expand or move to a larger location! It does not matter what you need to use, cardio machines, weight equipment, or even floor space there is no room! My spouse and I love going together and that is not even an option. #nospace This is my closet location and I am actually debating on going to another location due to how busy it is. Lots of people are uncomfortable with large groups, so this atmosphere is not great.
I really like this location although I find it to be extremely busy at all times but I can see why as it's a really well designed location and the staff are very helpful, friendly and professional. ????????
Pretty solid location, nice and clean. Definitely a little smaller than some of the others and no free parking.
I worked out here quite a bit , very friendly staff. Matthew is very friendly , goes above and beyond, very professional etiquette. Most definitely one of my favourite locations to visit.
When are you going to being back 24 Hr operations? That was the whole purpose I choose this location
The staff here are very friendly and helpful. Greg set me up for my membership and was patient with me when I had questions even though they were very busy at the time. He created a very positive first impression of this location for me and for that I will be recommending this location to friends.
A very warm and friendly welcome by Jazella, followed with helpful information on the gym !
Better vibe at this location than downtown.
Azalea B. always is a cheerful face to see in the mornings and this location is so convenient and fulfills my morning workout needs. Great job!
This is probably my favorite location! Its so clean and organized! All the staff are great and I always have the nicest chats with Azalea!
Is there a day dedicated to women?????????????
Used to workout here for a year or so. Apart from the unventilated changing rooms it's an okay place. Every gym has the problem with machines being busy during peak hours so that's not really an issue. Can't say anything about personal trainers since I never used their services but staff always seemed friendly.
GoodLife offers amazing group fitness classes. All the instructors are best in class and friendly that makes you feel inspired and welcomed.
I am cancelling my membership after nearly 3 years. Trainers come and go after merely months and the business is very poorly managed. Perhaps if you spoke to members paying your employer their money (duh) with respect you would have better reviews. The trainer with tattoos on his face is nasty, rude and disrespectful. Ask around and you will see that I am not the only one he has offended ! I have managed a team of 35 people and would never EVER treat a customer like some of your team does. Taking my money elsewhere. Good riddance.
This gym is decent. It’s open all the time which is super nice. It’s ridiculously busy during the evenings though and yet you still see people signing up during that time! It’s clean though which is good
Though it's well-maintained, the fact that it's so small makes it really difficult to have a decent workout during busy times. There should be more space for benches and less cardio machines. Coupled with the hassle of finding street parking, this is not my favourite GoodLife location..
Brand new gym! It is clean, bright, spacious and I love the massage chairs. Good variety of fitness classes and fairly nice staff at the front desk
Beautiful and clean club. They have great service and are open different hours than other clubs around the city.
Awesome fitness classes, parking is a bit of a pain if you go during the day time when they do not validate parking. Friendly and clean environment.
Clean and well supplied with equipment
Good idea putting a location here, however, it is such a small GoodLife. No matter if you are there at 4:30am or 4:30pm, this place is always PACKED. People are literally on top of you at all times waiting for equipment. You will have better luck at a bigger GoodLife out of the downtown core if you want space and more machine options.
The contract I signed said I could cancel anytime. Was told in April 2020 I couldn't cancel. I told the call centre employee to put a note on my file that I would not be continuing my membership after the freeze. (30 days written notice.) Without getting my consent, Goodlife charged $329.55 to my account and have been extremely unhelpful in reimbursing me for the fraudulent charges.
Great club, friendly and helpful staff - especially Azalea. Always a pleasure getting to see her.
I had a great experience coming in the other day :) Jazzella was very nice and informative which made me feel welcomed !
New and clean gym but kid care is very basic, like childcare has one person max on staff, and no wipes? Often end up with a sick kid shortly after our visit and at $7 drop in per child it's often not worth a workout during normal hours.
Nice and knowledgeable staff but too expensive for me! Also, the facilities here aren't as nice as most other locations.... It needs some renovations (a facelift, so to speak)... I'd also like to see more variety in their group classes.
Good club. Good hours. A bit small
Dont get membership here, you can NEVER CANCEL IT!! We moved from Calgary and phoned them 3 times to cancel our membership, and each time they said you should come here or go to a goodlife fitness to fill out a form to cancel your membership!! I told them there is no goodlife close to us and why should I spend lots of time on this while everywhere else you can cancel it by a phone call?!!! After going through this each time, they put us on hold for a while and then said the manager is in a meeting and she will call you back when she is free! And she never gets free, and this is their trick to STEAL YOUR MONEY FOR MONTHS!!! The worst customer service ever. They dont care about you and your time. They just want your money without even using their gym!!!
Small location. Can only go 2 hours if you want validated parking. Will not be back
Putting the "it's ALWAYS packed, even 4am" myth to rest. Full disclosure- I work here- but in saying that, I am a workaholic and am at the MRV Goodlife everyday. Sometimes twice a day as I have kept my routine since I was a member. 5pm-8:30pm is packed Mon-Thurs with people who finish work at regular business hours. Most Friday nights are slow, mid-morning is slow, a lot of times midday there aren't many people here either. As for 4am??? No. 5am-6am there is an early morning rush but nighttime is pretty empty to get a solitary workout, I've seen mirror pictures of my friends in the free weight section and in the background you can see nobody nearby. I just want to put something honest and realistic here, there are busy times (as I've given specifics) but by no means is it impossible to get an enjoyable/comfortable or lone workout.
This is a beautiful Good life. I wish it was bigger and had more free weight room as it is a very busy location. But the facilities are all great.
I've build good relationships with staff, and made friends here. This is my second home and without it my life would not be the same. 3 years in (:
I just moved here & Azalea answered all my questions promptly. This location has a great set up and is close to my new home. Love it.
I workout here 3-4 days per week, usually at lunch. They have a good selection of equipment and the location is convenient for me. During peak hours, it is extremely busy. I’ve also noticed that they take a long time to fix equipment if it needs maintenance. The treadmills that I like to use are almost all out of order and have been that way for around a month.
Nice open space, tons of cardio machines. Would get 4 stars if they had more bench / squat racks and 5 stars if they had a steam room rather than a sauna.
I’d give 5 stars except for the towels are course like sandpaper. I know they get laundered constantly but some heavy duty fabric softener would help. Guys washroom portion of the locker room could use some permanent air fresheners
Charlie Augusto is the best in Zumba I love his classes, today we burned 721 calories!!!! And we had so much fun dancing latín tunes!!!!
Shout out to Matt for the positivity and help!
Ok first of all, this place is ALWAYS busy... You'll be really hard up to find any cardio machines during peak hours. Very little space to do any workouts on the mats. People everywhere, everyone on their phones. Equipment was fine.
I usually workout in Edmonton but I hit this GoodLife when I'm in Calgary. Great location with friendly staff!
I love the location so much however it is often really busy. My main complaint is about the parking; I am fully aware that the parkade isn't Goodlife's problem but people visiting should know that on around 50% of occasions the stupid unreliable parking technology doesn't work. Ticket validation doesn't work, the pay machine doesn't work, paying by credit card is not working, and on and on. Goodlife: you need to continue to take this up with the parkade owner because it puts me off from going to your gym. Other than that, I love this gym
Too crowded, too fast. I've been a member here for a over a year, and in that time it's gone from 'kind of busy' to 'why even bother'. While GoodLife, as a business, has no reason to limit memberships for the sake of their members, I will likely be cancelling my membership when it comes up. The fact that I can't get in a proper workout at 8PM-930PM on a Thursday is a bit too far. 5-7 on a weekday? Sure. Nice staff for the most post, just a waste of my money now and I need to switch.
Let me share the terrible customer service that I've experienced from this branch. I signed up my membership about a month ago from one of their staffs, Jay (Jason). He gave me the wrong information regarding one of their policies that charge an extra fee to change the membership after signing up. He admitted it was his fault and leave the memo to the branch manager to solve the issue. I’ve contacted him again after 2 weeks to get any follow-up or updates on the issue. However, all I heard from him was “NO UPDATES” the branch manager is too busy to check the memo for 2 weeks, you can contact the branch manager by yourself to solve the issue if you want. I still think Goodlife fitness provides people with good facilities and services, BUT THIS BRANCH IS WORST. I DON’T USE THIS BRANCH ANYMORE.
One of the best good life gyms in Calgary.
I lift things up and put them down here so I can shovel poutine in my mouth :)
A little tight but nice staff
Great facility! Modern and wide rang of equipment with nice changing rooms. Does get fairly busy so best to avoid the after work rush. Sometimes the sinks in the men's bathroom need some attention but otherwise they keep the place very clean. Friendly staff too.
Love the area but could use more space and more leg machines.
Pressured daughter into a contract. She can't use it anymore, work load at school is too much. Won't let her transfer the contract to me, so at least we're getting something for the $$. They don't mind charging you $100 to cancel the contract, and they don't mind charging you $30 a month when you cant use the facility but they sure do mind you transferring the contract to someone else who could use it.
I felt like being scammed. When I sign up for the membership i asked the staff if its possible to put my membership on hold in the future because I travel from time to time, and they replied yes. However, today when I called them asking for that, they told me that it cannot be done because my membership was paid in full in advance. And it only works for memberships that are paying weekly. The staff could have let me know that before I sign up for the membership, yet they didn't. Now half year of my membership is going waste. I guess that's how they make their money.
Clean, well equipped and friendly Staff. Azelea always made my days brighter!
Not quite as nice as the Stephen Avenue location, but this location is still excellent. Nice large locker room and a decent sized spin studio. There also seem to be more fitness classes here than at other locations.
Pathetic customer service from but the club and the "member experience" department from the head office. Taking unauthorized payments from clients, constantly being told they are fixing your account that has taken over 6 months to do and it still ongoing. Being contacted and being told one thing then calling back and they have no record that someone from the club called you etc. absolute trash!
Have really enjoyed the classes and self-directed work outs there. The "Jump" kids babysitting program is great (they take really little babies onwards). Clean, friendly, and the instructor classes are really fun. The only downside I found was that there is a high-pressure sales job for one-on-one fitness training, but I suspect that's the case for most gyms. Very glad I joined.
I came from out of town right after a terrible break up and was looking to get a good workout in to release some negative energy haha. Decided to head to GoodLife as I knew it was an easy, reliable option AND was helped by the most amazing staff member Jazzella, she made me feel like I had a friend in a city where I don’t know anybody. Didn’t get into anything personal but helped me realize my breakup was for the best and motivated me to kill my workout. She definitely made the experience so enjoyable!!!
Good place to workout. Can be really crowded during peak hours. Front desk people are mostly friendly. The equipments can be super dirty - built up dust/dirt in the crevices. I’m not sure if they have cleaning staff wiping machines down - but I have never seen one. Change rooms are relatively clean. Adding hair ties and makeup pads was a nice touch.
Nice staff, very clean, very spacey and friendly people to workout around. The change rooms are clean too, although often when I walk into the mens' I can faintly smell weed...
Azalea is the absolute best person working there! Always so bubbly and incredibly hard working. She always motivates me to get my workout in.
Don’t leave anything laying around as it will be stolen within minutes! I’ve lost multiple items in their change room...
i feel like the layout is congested and it makes it hard to work out with lots of people there. but the staff are amazing, and that's my favorite aspect of it over there.
Busy gym but great location and friendly staff. Even at peak rush hour you can still get a good workout in due to variety of equipment and weights. Members are pretty friendly with lots of regulars. Management and staff are responsive and helpful.
Not my favorite Goodlife location. Firstly, it is CONSTANTLY crowded with people, which isn't their fault by any means, but my workouts are constantly disrupted because things and spaces are taken up. Secondly, there are just way too many cardio machines and makes the area for lifting weights very small and congested all the time. Thirdly, I always have someone trying to hustle me and trying to sign me up with a trainer. None of the other locations I've ever visited has annoyed me with sales to this degree! They otherwise do a decent job at cleaning up the place. If you want a friendlier environment that caters more to serious weightlifting, go to the Eau Claire location. It's my go-to when I don't go to work.
Nice enough gym, but very cardio focused. Limited weights (e.g. only 2 bench press units, 4 squat racks, about 6 adjustable free-weight benches, and 2 full sets of free-weights) so you will end up waiting or modifying your workout during peak times. In my opinion there is a large amount of space currently wasted in the studio/change room area that should be converted to a second weight/rack area. Great staff keep the place clean and in repair.
Crowded at all times. Never fails
Impersonal and unprofessional trainers. I have been deliberating about writing this review for almost a year (not sure why), but decided I must just to feel better. The location and space are fantastic. The members are generally friendly and considerate. The staff, however, are the worst thing about this place. I have NEVER had a single staff member say hi or acknowledge my existence other than the front desk staff. I have walked by the manager and trainers hundreds of times and they are usually on their cell phones or look straight ahead as if I'm going to ask them for money. I know dozens of members who work out regularly at the same time and we all think the same thing -- unfriendly! Now, here's where I bring in perspective. I used to be a trainer at Goodlife (not this one, btw shout out to Liberty Village Goodlife) and I imagine I greeted on average 50-75 members per day, PER DAY! Prior to this I worked as a PT for twelve years and part of my mandate was to talk to members. When I was in the gym not training, I always tried to help members with their workouts but not here. When they are working out they have their ear buds in and make it clear they are not to be disturbed. It was part of my responsibility as club ambassadors to treat each and every member as if they were important, but not at this location. The staff are only friendly to one another. They are so cliquish it's sickening. They look miserable and even when they're working out they never talk to members except if they want the equipment. If I could, I would leave this club in a heartbeat but my contract prevents it. I could relate the story of bringing my 18 year old son in to join for the summer but we were fifteen minutes late. The club manager would not even leave her office to talk to us as we stood five feet outside. She told one of the front desk staff to rebook our meeting. I never did preferring my son to work out in our condo. I simply cannot stress enough how terrible the training staff are and it is no wonder they are not very busy given they don't seem interested in finding new clients. All I know as when I worked at Goodlife, we had to mingle with members to find clients and create a positive atmosphere. If every Goodlife modelled itself after the Mount Royal location, I have no doubt gyms would be closing across the country!
I moved to Goodlife after being dissatisfied with my previous gym for a number of reasons; other than ensuring you paid, they didn’t seem to care much about the client experience. Good Life’s customer service is over the top. They really seem to care about helping you become your healthiest you. Whether or not you engage with a personal trainer (I don’t) or participate in their fitness classes (I do) I’m sure that you’ll have a great experience here. Also can I just say that a lot of beautiful people (inside and out) seem to choose this gym. A recent interaction with general manager Nick, and host Matt, inspired me to write this review. Good job team, keep up the great work!
Great experience will definitely come back, staff was so friendly, Jazzella answered all my questions and was super kind!
I've been going to this gym for the last two years. Great place to work out. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The gym is well organized and plenty of room for everyone. Best of all there is 24 hour access so you can pretty much whenever you want
Great staff and facilities. Usually busy at lunch and after work which is typical.
I met Azalea through a mutual friend and she shared about her gym when I mentioned I was looking for a new one. MRV is so convenient and close it me! I love it and getting to see Azalea is just a bonus!
Being going to this goodlife regularly since it opened and I bounce between the different locations in the city/ Prices are average. The gym is on the smaller side (better than 8th Ave and Eau Location in my opinion) and yes its downtown so its busy. Things I like: Usually clean, its 24 hours, some of the staff are really nice and friendly. Things I dont like: The paper towel and spray is not refilled enough, sometimes no one is at the front desk and your left standing there, some of the staff are kinda useless (one time I asked this personal trainer to validate my parking ticket and he says "im a personal trainer" my response "yeah cause sticking the ticket in the validation machine is soo hard". Impark allows you to use the parkade free for 2 hours which is sweet EXCEPT if anything goes wrong with your ticket who0a0oa good luck getting out of the parkade.
Great gym. Awesome staff. Amazing location. I go here almost everyday because it’s such a great GoodLife gym. Is it crowded? Well yes, if you go during peak times it will be busy. But that’s expected with ANY gym. Especially one with such a great location this GoodLife has on 17th Avenue. In any event, there is an abundance of equipment to use. Therefore your routine, nor your gains, are never jeopardised as you are able to just select another workout within your list and keep moving. I highly recommend this gym for seasoned veterans as well as folks new to working out. Bra.
I love used to GYM, this places has cooperative staff and all COVID safety measures in places.
I’ve been really happy with how they’re managing during covid, managing numbers and really keeping the equipment clean. Thank you for the added flexibility during non-peak times!
The most dangerous, condescending, judgmental yoga class we've ever been to. 11am, just don't. We are experienced yogis, and what we witnessed was dangerous; from manually adjusting a shoulder to near dislocation, to encouraging incorrect position in the middle of a pose instead of a full reset. Remarks such as "It's ok if you can't do it" or "Sir what are you doing over there?", just to name a few. We sent an email. No reply. Instructor is still teaching. Guess you get what you pay for.
Great gym. Lots of machines. Great instructors. The class area is a little on the small side and you have to navigate around the pillars. Great equipment. Lots of massage chairs!
The staff here are amazing and the gym is new and clean. The fitness manager Cait is very helpful and kind. If you’re looking for a Personal Trainer I highly recommend Renae! I worked with her for close to 10 months and she was instrumental in helping me reach my fitness goals and she set me up for a life time of success in the gym.
One of my fav gyms
Has just the right amount of equipment to get in a good workout. Not all that spacious which can make it feel cramped for space but for the layout it has it's still pretty good
Upon entering the gym, I was quite intimidated as I have not exercised in over 10 years. I was afraid people were going to judge me for looking like such a beginner! Thankfully, the sales associate Tedi was extremely understanding and helpful. He made me feel totally comfortable and now I am so excited to get started working out again. I highly highly recommend this gym!!
Good gym with maintained equipment. Extremely busy after work (4-8), so it's tough to find free weights or machines.
Nice location.Feels snug when busy but good selection as with most GLF loc.
Great gym close to my house and decent parking. Only thing could make it better is wi fi and level the cardio equip a bit better.
Was off today, so took advantage of quieter time to work out here, at Mt.Royal location. Kayleigh was fab and very helpful, from pumping the fit ball to chatting before I left. The only reason I did not give 5 *s was that a woman in the change room was spraying a very strong hair spray, as if she was the only one in the room. I won't go further, only that it got me out without brushing my hair and a vilent cough...and I am only sensitive, not allergic. Perhaps members could be mindful of the signs and of others.
I wanted to get my membership so I talked to on of the sales person. His name is Tedi. First question was "where are you from!?" His attitude was very aggressive after that!!! And when I asked him about my options, he said pay $25 and work out or go home!! The worst sales attitude I'v seen.
This gym is located off 17th Ave and as for all downtown gyms, it’s usually pretty busy and during rush hour it’s like a packed sardine club. That being said, this location is here for convenience and great for those who work or live around the area. All the equipment is also very new, and change rooms and common areas are typically clean. Broken machines are also fixed pretty quickly, with the exception of the massage chairs (but they just got all new massage chairs so it should last for a bit!) The staff is very friendly here and always with a smile. After 4pm, the validated parking underground is a great bonus for those who drive! I prefer this gym over Deerfoot city as I find the patrons here a lot more considerate and will generally put back their weights.
I found myself in Calgary for a few days so I've been working out at this GoodLife location because it was within walking distance from my accommodations. It's my first experience with GoodLife and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. I will be recommending my patients check out GoodLife in Kelowna, I was expecting a hassle but Laura, (new to the club and working the holiday hours at the front desk) was super helpful, got me right in and my workouts were not interrupted by red tape or pushy sales. Well done GoodLife, thanks for making my stay in Calgary energy efficient:)
My husband’s gym bag was stolen from the locker recently. No one of the personnel, staff wanted to do anything about it. When asked one of the staff members to help look around for it, was told: ”Buddy, it’s gone.” Very bad service attitude. I don’t recommend this place. Also, the personal trainer keeps rescheduling the training sessions at the last minute and sometimes not showing up. ????????
A new facility with new equipment. I LOVE IT!!! If you need a membership ask for Nicole Razote. She is friendly and actually takes the time to listen to your goals. Gives great tips to help overcome challenges. I've had my membership a few months now and she still helps me out. Great service thank you!!!
Have been there a few times late at night. Night staff should smile and be more engaging. They seem to be very tired. There is good equipment and over all not a bad place.
Goodlife is great! Newer equipment great staff.
Friendly staff, clean environment, and really great facilities. One of the prettiest GoodLife gyms I've been to
One of Goodlife's best branches! Clean wardrobes, new appliances. Sometimes there is a problem that there are not enough towels.
I never usually come to this gym but when i’m in the area, Jazzella is the receptionist and she always has a smile on her face when greeting others and myself. Her energy creates a positive environment that i’m sure everyone enjoys! Super professional, well done!
I’ve been coming to this gym off and on for a year and a half. The last 3 times I was here in late 2017, I mentioned how disgusting the change rooms were. They are gross. Today is my first day back of 2018 and I will definitely being fighting for a refund if the change rooms don’t get cleaned. The change room should be the cleanest spot in the gym! Not the dirtiest. It actually makes me want to puke! If you need pictures, just go see for yourself. Even the people working at the front desk totally agree.
Very busy and sometimes difficult to get the equipment you want to use. The staff are also pretty rude, yelling at us for bags on the floor that didn't belong to us, as well as scoping out a box of chalk that was in a corner which no one was using, and yelling at us that chalk is not allowed. Will not return unless absolutely necessary.
I've trained with Rene and Kelsey and both are excellent! They are friendly and knowledgeable. The work out plans got me out of my plateau and into new exercises. Most definitely worth the money. Also, big ups on Kate the fitness manager. I haven't meet her in person but talked on the phone. She is friendly, professional and restored my faith in large corporate brands.
I've been going to Mount Royal Village Goodlife since they opened. Because I've always struggled with finding a good gym that I've enjoy. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy every single workout I've ever done there, I have participated and really enjoy the group classes that they offer. The Good life instructors bring a fun and positive approach to workouts makes everything go by so quickly. Since I began going there, not only have I started to feel and look physically stronger, but my self-image has improved because of all the positivity, encouragement, and support that I have got. The small group of hard working counter staff are always joyful and welcoming on arrival. Jazzella is always knowledgeable on Good life policies and updates for covid. Corey M
Marwa is wonderful- I can't say enough good things about her. I am so pleased with my personal training with her and with the results that I am achieving … Thank you so much
Excellent customer service! Anupa provides exemplary customer service on a daily basis with her cheerful disposition, welcoming smile and friend conversation. I would definitely would recommend this goodlife to anyone in the city.
TERRIBLE gym. HORRENDOUS service. This place is an absolute joke and a huge waste of your money. Not to mention the space is literally the size of a shoe box feeling like your stepping on one another. Been trying to cancel my personal training membership for 4 months and it's been nothing but a headache because of issues made on their end. Would never recommend this gym to anyone even if it was free.
This facility is so conveniently located & Azalea is always on the ball to answer any questions myself or Fiancé have!
Love the facility! Always clean, good variety of equipment and cardio. The front desk staff is super friendly and welcoming! Azalea is always energetic and pleasant, she even remembers me by name!
This isn't where I parked my car
Recently started fitness again and Goodlife is a great location! Very well maintained and clean, offering massage chairs and solo meditation studio for pre or post workout relaxation! Customer service is above and beyond friendly faces! 24 hours pretty much all the time with respect to holidays and such Good organization in terms of equipment, free weighted sections, machines section, cardio section and then a spin studio and an open studio for group class etc.. Went for the free bag stayed for the sweat!
Signed up for a membership and a personal trainer when I realized I was the heaviest I've ever been in my life (mid-Covid) and really wanted to do something about it. Being physically fit has always been a life goal of mine but I've never really been able to stick with it for very long. I met with Jamelle Manabat and she really focused in on what my personal goals were like and what habits might have been contributing to my weight gain. She was personal and professional throughout the interaction and actually took the time to listen to what I was saying. After our meeting she introduced me to Nathan Shaw, my personal trainer, and over the next two weeks he laid out a personal fitness plan for me for the next year. We talked diet, lifestyle, and accountability to showing up for yourself (which is something I struggled with). Nathan is a very personable guy with a great balance of helping you stay focused on your training while still keeping the session relaxed and relatable. I was 180lbs when I started my training and six weeks later of making healthier diet choices and attending my personal training sessions I've dropped down to 170lbs as of this morning. Incoming cheesy line: I won't lie and say every day is easy but every day that I push myself to be there and put in the effort it's worth it. I know this is just the start of my personal fitness journey but I'm thankful for Jamelle, Nathan and the staff at GoodLife Mount Royal Village for creating a supportive environment where I'm going to continue to try to achieve my personal fitness goals.
Great facility! Jazella is amazing to deal with as she is very friendly and personable. Her kind demeanour does not go unnoticed!
Given the location of the gym and the fact that it caters for a lot of people working out before or after work plus those who live nearby it needs to be bigger espeically the free weights area. Trying to get a machine or bench during peak hours is like trying to enter the ring during a royal rumble. Sometimes it's just not possible to workout off-peak. Other than that nothing wrong with this gym.
I met one of the girls at the front desk when I was running the memorial stairs this year and we got to chatting. I told her I workout at one of the Goodlife's and she recommended to switch things up and come visit her at the Mount Royal location. I swear I make the drive to come visit Azalea now as her bubbly personality brightens my day (sounds cheesy as heck, but I'm all about the good, positive vibes). Thanks Azalea for the recommendation and always greeting me with a smile!
very overcrowded, you cant workout properly, very poor ventilation system . women bathroom is gross . Lacks a lot of equipment. this gym seriously needs to think of an alternative for having way too many people coming there. ON TOP OF ALL THIS , they told my gf you cannot wear sport bra , ohhhh what excuse me if some one has issue with others wearing sport bra they should not be there , no where in you policy says anything about how athletes can dress, how the staff or even management allow themselves to come to my friends and tell her she cannot wear sport bra??? its called sport braaaaaaaaa that means you can wear it in sport clubs NOT party. i am thinking of switching to Talisman , more equipment and space aside from their dirty Jacuzzi for only extra 8 $ . you guys have to really limit the access to 16 ave gym to only people living close by to prevent this disastrous over population. sometimes i have to wait 15 min even more to get a machine or a bench not acceptable. especially when you guys run this group fitness
I agree that the gym is crowded, but the staff make due with the best that they got. They are very friendly! Their membership coordinator Michelle was pleasant to deal with. Worked around my schedule to ensure that I had my membership ready to go. I also like that their memberships work nationwide as I tend to bounce from each location to ensure I am not complacent. My only suggestion if you dont like crowded gyms is go during slower times.
This gym is always too busy to be able to deadlift, bench, squat or do anything except cardio. I got so fit after leaving Goodlife because I actually can do the workout I planned to do that day at other gyms since it's not over crowded with groups of people fighting over equipment. If you only plan to spin the gym is fine... that's literally the only thing you never have to fight for.
This is one of the nicer GoodLife properties. Equipment is usually repaired quickly however this location is very busy and there is usually at least a few things broken. It isn't always possible to get your workout done quickly during their peak hours. Patrons of this gym are better than those of Deerfoot in terms of putting equipment and weights back. Facilities are usually clean and it is well priced under most corporate membership plans.
This place only has 2 chest press and all the bros are hogging it. Super busy from 4 to 8 pm. The guys that goes here do not wipe after they use, pretty disgusting. Towels everywhere in the change room. Honestly they should stop signing people on when theres not enough equipment to accommodate people, basically feels like a farmers market when you come during peak hours.
Great club except you would think they would have shaw open wifi. It would be no cost to them and there clients who listen to there own streaming music to work out . Practically the only establishment on 17th Ave who don't have it.
This gym is my go-to. Very clean and machines are all well-maintained. Lots of variety in both actual machines and free weights. Plenty of cardio equipment as well. Great sized locker room and the staff are nothing short of excellent.
I couldn't even figure out how much they were charging for a one-month membership, after stopping by twice and calling. You'd think there would be prices listed somewhere on the website or on the door or something. I asked them how much it costs for a one-month membership and they said it depends on how long I was going to be there, lol. I would like to know how much it costs for one month, please. $50? $75? $80? Who knows. I still don't. lol. I'm probably being a little harsh. It looked nice, great location.
Overcrowded and under-equipped. Quit today and will never go back. Been going there 18 months and quite sure not one new piece of equipment the whole time. Never any free spots in the racks or free weight sections, too many memberships sold for it's size.
Bad experience all around for my whole time there. Trainers only care about selling expensive packages and no one cares about cleaning the gym from all the riff-raff that Mount Royal entices. Machines old and not enough for the volume.
Gyms aren’t normally my thing but something about Jazella’s bubbly personality makes me excited to get a sweat in!!
Great inner city gym! I’ve never had an issue with my contract as I pay yearly. Just remember to bring headphones and slap on your best RBF to scare away the “gym campers” (people who do nothing while sitting on equipment or inconveniently take a phone call), or the overly friendly and talkative people asking if you come here often.
terrible, not sure where the membership money even goes! half the machines always broken and takes forever to get repaired, once one is fixed two others are out of service, total joke. Just recently they decided to 100% neglect cleaning the bathrooms (used to be daily), the guys bathrooms smell like an outhouse, not sure why their cleaners decided to no longer clean, employees here are all aware and could care less.
Goodlife just called me, pulling up my previous account information, and made a reference to my birthday to try to get me to come back into the building for a promo. Felt like my data wasn't being used ethically with this event, especially since I am an ex-member for a few reasons. Goodlife shouldn't be keeping old account information, and then calling us to come back, kind of creepy.
I loved lifting and putting down stuff here.
Way too many cardio machines and not enough space for free weights. My suggestion is remove 1/3 of the cardio machines and open up more space so people are not waiting to lift weights.
Best gym best location friendly staff I love it ????????
Worst gym ever! During covid I was Swindled into a gym training membership by some guy named Mike, told me at the time my training would only be for a mere few sessions, however that was not the case. It was a years worth of Level 4 or whatever at 500.00 bi-weekly. During Covid, Goodlife would send out emails notifying customers that their membership would be frozen till such & such date. However, that was no the case what so ever as they would unfreeze it during certain times take the 500.00 delegated for gym training however gyms were closed and supposedly my trainer would set up online sessions, not ONCE did he contact me. Not once. After months of realizing now that I had probably about 20 sessions of training, I called the gym to notify them I was moving back to BC, where at their locations it was MANDATORY to be vaccinated. Goodlife customer service didn’t really have a option for me, and choose to continue charging my credit card without any options. I decided to close my account and pay the full 2500.00 Cancellation fee, even though I STILL had about 20 sessions left but I decided to forfeit this as this gym has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IVE EVER DEALT WITH IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. So I made the call and cancelled everything to do with this gym… or so I thought. Two weeks ago I received a email, a email ( not even a phone call to notify me that I have another payment due, I shrugged it off thinking it was a mistake, however just this past Friday I received another email stating I owe double The money. I’ve gone back into my history of emails during covid & received countless emails restating that my account was frozen, however after just reviewing my bank account noticed that GOODLIFE had no issues double dipping into my bank account while sending emails notifying me my account was “ frozen.” This is by far the WORST GYM, I would never recommend anyone to come here. There are plethora of awesome independent personal trainers in Calgary, those who won’t rip you off especially during a pandemic. - disappointed with this Gym. Horrible customer service, and would not recommend MIKE to anyone. If ANYONE is looking for a personal trainer, I would recommend IG : UGBfitness on IG, I believe he used to work for GL, before quitting & going independent. I’ve worked out with him a handful of times & what I can tell you is he’s very professional & you don’t feel ripped off when leaving a workout.
Gym is kind of going down hill. The guys change room always have random towels all over the place, doesnt get clean everyday at all the cleaning staff should be doing it twice aday. And definitely need air fresher in the bathroom area. The area where people do stretches people never wipe them down you always see sweat stains all over it. They definitely need signs up. if the trainers or staff see someone doesnt clean off equipment or mates charge them extra 3$. Definitely need some blinds for the windows for bright sunny days. Sun will blind you during workout on bench, and smith machines
This is my go to GoodLife in Calgary. Been going there for over a year now. The facility is still rather new, with a good selection of equipment, free weights and power racks. I go in the mornings so not a fair comparison but there is always at least one power rack free, never a wait
Matt at the front desk was amazing! He was warm and welcoming, with a big smile while I checked in. He was knowledgeable and very patient with all of my questions. Very hospitable and accommodating. He made me feel very comfortable in a new gym!! Thank you Matt!
Hello! Every visit that Anupa is working at the front desk, she is always very friendly and welcoming. Thank you for making early mornings that much better! :)
GoodLife needs to get with the times. We need more room for body weight exercises. Get rid of the archaic machines no one uses. Especially since there are always classes going on in the big room (during peak time), there is no space for dynamic exercise. There’s a tiny area right by the women’s change room that is always packed. Where do we do our circuits with weights and dynamic exercises when the classes are going on? Get rid of some machines and use the space intelligently. So frustrating.
Tedi is too aggressive and his attitude stinks. Should not be working in sales.
The location is great, front desk staff are pretty friendly in general. You have to go at odd hours to not have to fight for equipments. In regards to the trainer's, probably only 2 trainers there that actually are nice, the rest just seems like they hate customer service. Agree with the rest of the commentators, the guy with tattoo to his neck is rude and condescending. He definitely needs to go!
THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPER BAD!!!!!! IT IS BRUTAL!!!! MAN. -All the employees are trying to get rid of all the responsibility. -People should understand the Covid situation in any aspects. -I want to cancel the membership, staffs told to either go to the store or email, so I can directly cancel my membership. -Which I did go the the store after work, they said I have to email the GM. I did ask the staff already, tomorrow is the due day for the membership, what if I don’t cancel it and got charged? They said you could ask the money refund. -So, I did email the GM, GM canceled my membership, and still charged full month fee by saying won’t be refunding the money. -Then, I called the store willing to talk with the manager, WOW !!! NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE WHEN THE TIME IS 10:20AM. -Jesus !! -I am so confused about your company process and you guys did not explain well and that has to put under customers’s faults. -I totally understand you guys are doing the business and for the sake of running business, hopefully you guys could think about what is CUSTOMER CARE !!!!! -I AM SUPER DISAPPOINTED ABOUT THE WAY YOU GUYS ARE DEALING WITH CUSTOMERS!!! -SO SO SO BAD !!!!!!
I came here with my boyfriend on sunday and I have NEVER felt more welcome and comfortable walking into a gym before! Jazzella was at the front desk and she was so lovely!!! Very professional and gave us all the info we needed for covid rules and how to navigate the gym, yet had such a bubbly and charismatic personality. She was so easy to talk to, which is something i find extremely difficult to find at gyms these days, and why i started working out at home now. But she makes me want to start coming here all the time!
Great gym with meditation rooms and lots of equipment. Great customer service! Love this place.
Nice clean gym. Staff is friendly and lots of equipment. Not a lot of free space to do functionality training or lunges and such.
Great place to work out with no judgement
Been coming here for a few months. Lots of space, lots of equipment. Always room on the treadmills/ellipticals/bikes even during peak hours.
My favourite GoodLife location in Calgary! Friendly staff, large change rooms, and lots of equipment. Check it out.
I was concerned about the new covid rules that were put in place and Azalea answered all of my questions and was able to help guide me through the new process. Thank you for all of the help!
I would like to share that living 2 blocks away ris welcoming to have this fitness center in Mount Royal. The staff are welcoming and professional. I would like to give a shout out to Zella who is always professional and very welcoming. It is always nice to see her working .
Great place. Gets busy around noon and packed around 6pm
One star for the staff, as they are always incredibly friendly and welcoming. Otherwise if this gym wasn’t close I wouldn’t go; machines are old and outdated (I’m talking most still have connectors for the old iPhone port that was phased out more than a decade ago) and in turn are constantly falling in and out of commission. This means that for the months I’ve gone here, I could count on a single hand the amount of times that all the machines I would like to use are actually in working condition. Not to mention exuberantly long wait times for repairs on the machines, as some have been out of commission since the day I first stepped foot inside the gym. Management clearly needs to work a little bit harder on running their gym and less on getting their employees to try and sell personal training.
Nice staff! Parking is free for 1 hr after 4pm, you will have to get your ticket validated at the front. A big gym for the location, but it is often busy during peak hours. Lots of street parking on the side streets too.
Don’t get trapped in a sticky gym contract
Has everything. Small cuz it's dt. Counter staff are friendly, but a bit ditzy, and air headish (guys and girls) goes with the territory. I'm sure not all are. But guess to be expected at any gym, a bit more so here.
New equipment, good layout, very small though. Never go between 4-8pm so busy
Here's the thing, My testament to a good Gym is how long I stay there and I have been at GoodLife Mount Royal for around 5 years. Also, I don't generally review businesses because I feel a business is only as good as the people that work there. That being said, I feel the front desk staff is the essence of the nature and atmosphere of the gym. One young lady in particular "Zella", who is personable, knowledgeable, has a great sense of humor and just wants everyone to have a great day. She is the type of person I would employ in a minute because of her positive spin on life and her professionalism.
Nicole was awesome, just did a transfer, very knowledgeable and helpful!! Process was quick.
I love the positivity in this gym. The trainers and staff are all so wonderful, and the gym itself is bright and well laid out. I have been working with a trainer - Cody - there for several months and have seen a lot of progress, progress that I would not have been able to achieve without his guidance and compassion. He knows his stuff and has helped me immensely with my fitness with a non-judgmental, kind and inspirational approach which has been tremendously helpful. Keep up the good work Mount Royal team!
Called to asked about covid regulations and the front desk said they will call me right back but they never did.
the receptionist jazella was very helpful and directed me in the right way very nice and professional.
Very unprofessional and RUDE, I expected more from their management. I advice all others to stay away. Specifically related to miss Sheridan.
I hate going to the gym, but Jazzella makes it fun! She's always cheerful and approachable! Even thru her mask you can feel her smile!! Keep it up!!
Can't say enough about the fantastic customer service at this facility. Especially within the current circumstances, they were extremely helpful and accommodating. Special thanks specifically to Jamelle Manabat for giving an exceptional customer service experience!!
Ryan is my trainer and I am very happy with the attention and quality of fitness I am getting. I find the staff very pleasant and they even know my name. The equipment is good for my needs. I would also like to extend a thanks to Nicole, who I see signing people up for the gym and establishing professional relationships with them. I see her showing them around to the various equipment and telling them about the in and outs of the gym.
I used to live in the south and go to the location off of 130th Ave se. Going from that location to this one is night and day. The location on 17th is substantially smaller than other GoodLifes but it makes up for it for being not as busy. It may be because there are 3 GoodLifes downtown, but I have never really found myself crowded or waiting for machines at this one. Very clean. Bathrooms are great. One thing with a smaller gym means less squat racks, less selection of machines and less room to add new things.
Following from the previous Liam’s review. - I AM GETTING MORE MAD SINCE YOU MENTIONED ABOUT THE 30 DAYS NOTICE. -Firstly, your staffs told me I can cancel the membership directly and I can cancel it anytime and then I signed the contract. And I try to cancel it, the response said I have to get it before 30 days. Do you guys think it is a joke ? -Second, one of the staff told me I can get it cancelled and get the refund via email which I did, and you guys are not doing anything but charge the money. Lol. -THIS IS TYPE OF CUSTOMERS SERVICE IS GOD DAME TERRIBLE DUDE.
This is a great gym. It's spacious, clean and well laid out. The staff are always genuinely friendly. I wish they had BodyAttack at this location because it's a great work out. With that said, the fitness instructors are also fun and energetic.
Changed their Wifi to an audio setting that doesn’t even work. Idiots
Get a shoulder press. Who pays $60 per month for an improperly stocked gym? Its a staple in any gym. When I mentioned it to staff "I dont need it" was the response given. Well at that note I don't need a gym at all to get fit. Its a cop out comment and its as weak as it is stupid. Also says volumes about how this place is run. Disorganized and under stocked....Why are we ripping people off Goodlife?
Nice big club that has all you need for a full body workout. Change room and shower area is always clean. One of the busiest Goodlife’s in Calgary though so avoid peak hours (4pm-7pm).
Decent gym. That being said the hygiene standards are somewhat less than optimal. So many people do not wipe down the equipment. No accountability. Unacceptable in this time of a pandemic. There are no extra reminders regarding protocol for cleanliness. Crowded at peak hours. Frankly a Petri dish for contagion.
Goodlife made a man out of me
All of the staff here are amazing, I pay drop in fees and the guy and girl that work mondays have always been so friendly and dont harass me to sign up. I don't know why this location has multiple complaints about how busy it is, when they could just avoid a downtown location during busy hours.
Great facility and environment to train in. The entire staff is friendly and inviting. Would highly recommend for anyone in the area!
New to the City and wanted to check out the gyms in the area. Saw the reviews about masking( people not complying and staff not saying anything), was a little concerning… and I was skeptical to go in, but my buddy assured me that wasn’t the …
Great Goodlife location. Very clean and one of the few places where people are respectful enough to put their weights away in the right spots. Well lit with big windows. You have all the equipment you need. It does get busy at peak hours, but I live nearby and I found times where it was less busy (weekends, late in the night, or early in the day on weekdays). Staff are friendly too. The best thing about goodlife is that you can use the pass at any other goodlife including other provinces, so perfect when you travel around a lot. In Quebec you can also use it at Energie Cardio but you only get 12 passes per 3month period for some reason and no towel service even if you have it with Goodlife.
Whats up with the ventilation system at this club? Soo bad
We moved to this location from Stephen Avenue (which we really liked) and were happy to see same high standards of friendly staff and keeping gym and locker rooms clean. Since opening after COVID lockdown it’s good to see them implementing and enforcing rules of wearing masks and observing physical distance. Especially, big thanks to Anupa who I’ve seen personally asking two gym patrons to put their masks while chatting. Thank you for keeping us safe and open!
They require a "30 day" cancelation notice. So if you're on the biweekly plan, they'll make you make 1 or 2 more payments even though you won't be using the gym. Another scummy practice of many they use.
Terrible location: majority of equipment is always broken (eg. 3/5 stair machines, 3/5 bikes, etc. all broken) and they don't fix them. Even worse majority of all the paper towel machines are always empty while staff just sits around. The basics in the gym are all ignored.
Terrible customer service for personal training due to contracts if you need to get out them for any reason. Avoid signing up for personal training zero flexibility.
Don't book any training at this facility. The training manager left recently and its gone down hill as 10 out of 12 trainers quit within 2 months. And since goodlife doesn't like to give refunds on their training contracts (its been 5 weeks and they still haven't refunded me despite multiple phone calls and emails) your going to lose any money you have left on your contract.
I have a pretty busy schedule and when I can motivate myself and find time to go to the gym I do. I only had a few hours in which I could go on my last visit and the lady at the front desk refused let me go in because I did not have ID. I didnt have a ID with me and she said because I have no photo on file I cannot work out unless I agree to take a photo right then and there. My hair was a mess and I was not comfortable taking a photo. I had pleaded to her to let me work out. I explained that I had to pay for a car to go just to get there and refusing me entry is not fair. I pay bi-weekly for the membership and I was not told of these rules untill now. Apparently there is a new policy. And even after I showed her my bank statement showing that I do in fact pay for a goodlife membership she said “I know its you but I can not let you in”. She crushed my motivation for the work out and made me feel like a criminal just because I wanted to work out. The stupid thing is that even if I was willing to take the photo the lady at the front couldn’t verify its me without a government issued ID. The new policy is very flawed.
Three weeks ago a club member left an alarming Google review that mask protocol was not being followed and enforced at the Mount Royal Calgary location (880 16 Ave SW). Unfortunately, the situation remains the same. Four or five (mostly) men walk around the gym with no mask on any given day (I’m in this gym three times a week) with no apparent intervention from the staff. They even walk by staff members and are not approached (i.e., Friday Oct 1/21). But seriously, I could spot them from the stationary equipment. I try to avoid common areas, i.e. free weights and strength equipment, as much as I can and mostly stick with cardio. I don’t feel safe to walk there, as the no-maskers have taken over these areas and there is no consideration. I do most of my weight program at the Stephen Avenue location once a week, where the mask protocol is followed, but I can’t go there every time. I wish I could though. For the record, I left a 5-star Google review for this location a few months ago when the Covid-19 protocol was strictly reinforced. Disappointed with current situation. And, I tried to contact the customer service through GoodLife website on three different browsers and it did not let me submit comments so here it is. Hey folks, even with vaccinations we can still contract and transmit the virus!
I bounce back and forth between this location and Stephen Ave location. Equipment is decent and the staff are friendly. The facility is clean with staff continuously around cleaning/disinfecting. My only complaint is the fact that this location is closed on Statutory holidays, whereas it was open before COVID-19. However, overall pleased with staff in these different times.
Staff at Mount Royal GoodLife are great but I am seriously disappointed in the covid protocols for this club. I have seen numerous club members walking around with no mask on ( most of them take them off as soon as they walk threw the door) and so many people who do not wipe equipment down after workouts!! I usually go to Richmond GoodLife and I will stay their from now on! I don’t know why the Mount Royal location is so much worse maybe they need more staff to walk around and patrol but or people at this location don’t understand what a code yellow means and they need to be more educated?
Worst location I've ever been to. Front desk staff are called "motivators" but that's the least they do. The gym is always crowded and lacking equipment. One trainer in particular, I wont mention his name but if you are reading this I'm sure you know who he is - condescending, judgemental, and full of himself. I submitted a request to be followed up with and Goodlife promised to follow up within 3 days. It's been a week and they havent even bothered.
